[Review] SlipGrip Mounts - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

EDIT: Posted my review - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582898&page=2
Does anybody here have any experience with these?
I originally planned to buy one for my Incredible but never got around to it. The thing that interests me about these is that they supposedly fit the phone while a case is still on. No pogo charging of course, but not having to take the case off compensates for that in my mind.
Here's their selection for the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.slipgripcarmounts.com/Galaxy-Nexus_c_21957.html

Guess I'll just have to buy one and see then.

if you are using a tpu or any case with a smooth flat back you can check out the clingo mount. thats what im using with the incipio silicrylic works great you dont even see the mount with the phone on and you can use it for your next phone.

It seems like they work well based on the few videos I found. Here's a video of the EVO version, ignore the cheesy music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb3a...DvjVQa1PpcFOK-sVRP7Ikki2KBkd2dR1aFq9dFhq7kZs=

I'm interested in the goose neck holder but I'm a bit skeptical on how their "hard rubber or silicone case" version works. If my rubber or silicone case is smaller and thinner than average, is it going to be loose? If my case is large and in-charge is it going to be difficult to remove and put in?
If anyone can provide a review, I'd love to take a good look at it. They look much better and more secure than the Arkon holder I have. The last thing I want though is something loose or hard to put in.

I'll probably be buying one of the "for Hard Rubber or Silicone Case" ones and will be using it with a Cruzerlite A2 case. I'll post a review when I do.

Awesome. I'll be waiting for that.

Broke down and ordered (gooseneck). I'll give an ETA if they send me a tracking number. Based on reviews of the same mount for other phones, it should be decent.

I bought the proclip air vent mount for my nexus! Its awesome! Well worth the price I paid!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA

They look good to me. If I wasn't in the process of doing the touchstone mod & hanging one of those in my car I would probably do this.

It'll probably be here early next week. Expect some pics and my thoughts.

The mount was delivered today.
My first impression is positive. It feels nice and solid.
The suction cup is large and very strong. I tried pulling it off and it didn't budge. I'll have to see how it holds up with extended use.
The goose neck is very sturdy and takes a bit of force to adjust which is good. It means it won't go moving on it's own.
The phone holder fits my Nexus nicely with either my Cruzerlite A2 or Diztronic TPU cases on the phone. The clip holds the phone snugly enough to securely hold it but not so tight that it's hard to remove. There are cut outs for the camera and the speaker on the back (pic below). Where it connects to the goose neck, there is a ball/socket type adjustment which allows it to tilt in all directions.
There's a small flaw in the design near the headphone jack. It's not cut out quite deep enough (can be seen in last pic). I'm sure this could be easily fixed by using a round file to deepen the cutout to where it should to be. This isn't a problem in my case, as I connect to my radio via Bluetooth, but it's something to consider if you need access to it.

The camera is unobstructed by the holder. The suction cup easily gets in the way, but the goose neck can be adjusted to avoid it. This is useful for recording video and time-lapses.
The mount is handy for using the Torque OBD scanner app safely in addition to GPS navigation.
The too shallow head phone jack cut out.
Overall, this is a good mount for the money. Especially if you want the ability to leave your case on. The shipping was very fast from SlipGrip and they offer a variety of other mounting options.
Pros: Fits phone with a case ON, camera cut out, nice suction cup, sturdy goose neck, universal fit.
Cons: Improper cutout for head phone jack.

Ordered some NFC stickers. Gonna put one in the dock and see how it works.

Tune Belt Armband

I've been searching for an armband for my Vibrant for awhile and decided to get the Tune Belt Armband.
This is the one I got:
https://www.tunebelt.com/domino/tunebelt/shop.nsf/parts/3FBB580A8B45C3DA852577AD00660D14
So far it's a very good armband except in one area. The length of the band itself is kind of short. If you have decent sized biceps, I highly recommend getting the extension. It only costs a few dollars more so it's well worth the investment in case your arm is too big. This should fit just fine on most women.
The armband fits with my Vibrant still inside it's case which is exactly what I was looking for.
Here are some pics.

What type of case do you have? I have a hard, clear snap on case so I'm not sure if it will fit. I used a TuneBelt with my MyTouch 3g and it also had a clear snap on case. It was snug, but without the case it fit fine. I want to make sure I don't run into the same problem here, as I'm looking to get a new tunebelt for my new Vibrant. Thanks for the info!
Hey OP, what kind of case do you have on your phone and does it affect the fit with the Tuneband? I'd hate to have to remove my hard case everytime I want to use the phone in the tunebelt.
Thanks!
Went ahead and ordered the AB83. We'll see how it fits.
Please post results. Seems the OP disappeared.

Ok, so I got the AB83. I use a hard, clear case on the phone. With the case on, it's a bit snug at first, but with repeated use the tuneband loosens up just enough that it fits perfectly. I'm able to use the touchscreen with no problems. If I take it out of the clear case and insert into the tuneband, it fits perfectly. Either way it's a win. I recommend it!

Sorry guys. I'm still here. Forgot to check this thread more often.
The case I use is the Argyle TPU type case like the one you can get from Amzer. It's a pretty thin case, so it fits in the armband pretty well. It's a little tight getting to slide into the opening, but once you have it in there 1/4 of the way or so, it's not that hard to push it down.
If I take off the case, it slides in pretty easily.
The top part of the arm band is just a flap, so plugging in headphones is not an issue.
I'll take another picture later tonight with my headphones plugged in and how you can manage your cable.

I concur with everything you just said. Opening is a bit snug, but once you get the tip in, it's smooth sailing from there! (Hmmm......)
Clever.....
It does look like it completely cover the device, but there is space to get your headphones in there. The only issue I ever feel like I have with this acc. is the fact that the plastic sticks to the face of the device. otherwise, perfect for the job!
I use otterbox case with tune belt and its keeps plastic from sticking works perfect.

Clingo car mounts

Has anyone been using one of these Clingo car mounts on a captivate? What are your impressions after some time of use? Does the performance/grip decrease with time?
They seem very cool but since the back of the captivate is slightly irregular + the galaxy S name is embossed, I'm worried there could be some problems.

I bought the air conditioning vent model and the small folding desk stand. It does work as advertised. It will lose its grip as it gets dirty; however, running tap water over it while rubbing the material will bring it back to new.
I was surprised to find the build quality/craftsmanship to be very high. IIRC it comes from Ireland.
I hardly use it though. My car has gps, bluetooth, and voice command built in. Its just easier to set the phone on the seat or in the cup holder with the charger connected.
Something to also consider:
I found it to be too sticky. Takes a bit of effort to get it off. you have to peel/pry slowly to get the phone to come off without taking the ac vent with it.
As for the irregular shape of the captivate, it won't be an issue as long as you align it somewhat vertically. You will be surprised at how strong the suction is.

Do you know if it works with a case? Specifically, the Otterbox Commuter? What kind of surface sticks to to the pad?
It seems as though any type of case will stick. So far I have tried no case (bare back), full bodyguardz film (front and back), and the bodyglove tpu case with out any issue.
I have an otterbox case for my old.iphone somewhere and some silicone cases laying around, I'll try and find them and see if they stick. But so far it grabs everything.

i can tell you it will not stick to a otterbox defender ..
either way, i would never buy a car mount that the phone "sits" on. ever hear of a pot hole? i dont care how sticky it is when u get it. little dust, little vibration, little bump. FLOOR...
The mount works great!
If you don't have a slippery/smooth rubber case or back
Holds an iPhone great, won't slide off. My HTC EVO with stock battery cover only stays on for a short period of time, and the Seidio Innocase active that I have barely stays on at all. My plan is to sand down the plastic part and use a glossy paint to make it work with the mount.

You would think but I got mine 2 months ago and I love it. Never had it fall off except for when I did a really bad job of putting it on. Cleans up super easy and dries in a few seconds to new stickyness again.
I have the soft rubber l, I forget the name, case and it works great with it.
All in all I really am happy with my windshield mount version.

Awesome Shell Case-Review

Ok, So I got this case a day ago and I decided to write a review because of how impressed I was. (especially for the price). I found this shell case here, and it is pretty cool. (My print is the carbon fiber, and it comes in a few other colors as well.)

The Case itself:
This is a simple plastic case that clips onto the back of the Xoom. It is simple hard plastic, with the pattern printed on it. I was very impressed by both the fit and the quality of the print on the case. The Print is very detailed, maintaining great shadowing (for dimension) and enough detail to see individual (printed) strands of carbon fiber. The fit is good, it's snug and does not wobble or wiggle. It only protrudes top and bottom, the sides do not wrap all the way around, but instead only cover the first bit of the sides.( Makes it easier to remove for whatever reason and facilitates access to the tricky volume keys.) I was also very surprised at how slim it is on the Xoom, it doesn't add much bulk at all.
Another sign of the quality of this case is the edges of the cut outs, they are all tapered and rounded, with matching print quality, something I wasn't expecting on a sub $20 case.
The Seller and Shipping:
I ordered this on a Sunday and received it on a Wednesday, so the turn around time was great. The package was shipped USPS, so ship times may vary. Also, shipping was either dirt cheap or free (I can't remember).
The Seller also took a couple dollars off my order, (on top of the code "CRAPISGOOD" for XDA members [%10 off]) Which was appreciated.
My Verdict:
If you are looking for a cheap case that is of great quality, this is for you. It comes in many different print options, and is a great shell. Even if you are not, it is probably worth the $20 investment.
can you charge the xoom while its in this case with the motorola stands?
Is it grippy or smooth?
I knead grippage!!
I was going to buy one as well...
Can you tell me if you can still use the docking stations with this installed? I know you can with the silicon case so if this is thin enough I would think it would work as well.
I am also interested in how slippery it is. I have a hard time holding on to my naked Xoom and appreciate the grip the silicon case provides, it is just really ugly IMHO. The carbon fiber hellshell looks really cool.
It is very glossy and slick. As for the charging situation, I don't have a dock so I can't say for sure, but if it works with the silicon case it should work with this its smaller then the silicon one.
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
Thanks man! Just ordered mine (front/ back clear). Been looking for a good case, and it looks like you may have found it for me!

Not to be rude, but you NEED to check this instead of assuming. Reason I asked was because I bought a similar case off ebay and it would not fit on the dock, hence it was useless.

Had mine on for a few hours now, TOTALLY loving it.
I purchased the clear one, front/back snap on cover and it adds a few mm to it, but to me it feels better holding it now also wish I had it on when it fell off the bed and scratched along our textured walls.... I have super light blue scratches on the top right and bottom left corners now... grrrrr!!!.
I would recommend this case to anyone who wants a little more protection for the device, and can't wait for super cool otterbox cases and the like to come out.
Word of caution though, I put it on with a Zagg front and back screen protector (the damn side strips were a PITA to put on)..... don't do that. It was super difficult to take off lol
As anyone tried this with a docking station? I really want to order the carbon fiber shell, but want to know if it will fit in the docking station with the shell installed first. I know it is not very much money, but it is still enough that I do not want to make the wrong purchase.
Am I blind, or is there no mention of who makes this or who sells it?
It is in the OP, just not very prominant.

I like the look of that shell. I currently have the Skinomi carbon skin. I wonder if this shell would fit with that installed.

Thats my project for today
Just got mine
Ordered one of the cases...fits great. Nice feel to the shell. Best of all using the 2nd attachment that came with the speaker dock, I can charge it as well.
The case gives the Xoom a much more polished feel/look to it...very happy with it.
Just got my case. This thing is great. I got the skulls version and I like it alot, only one complainent. The case is pretty smooth, so now its smoother than the stock tablet.
Now if they would only start shipping the pivot-pad, I would be all set!
i have the same case as well.
and for those asking if this would fit the motorola charge/docking port stand yes it will. motorola offers a plastic adapter that you can add to make the xoom fit if it has a case on.
I forgot to add that as well, my standard dock came with a adapter plate. That plate works with this case just perfect.

Samsung Car mount question

Does anyone know if the below car mount fits a Samsung note encased in a TPU or nilkin/rock hard case?
I did a measurement of my note in its protective case and found the width is about 85-86mm...so it might be a tight fit, given the maximum width of the arm is 85mm.
Anyone who has bought this mount and has a TPU / Rock / Nilkin case can share his experience would be helpful. Thanks.

I have the car mount (its FANTASTIC BTW). the fit is very tight and I do not think you can leave any case on the device. Aside from a snug fit, you need to snap the power clip in, and it only fits if the device is already snuggly fitted into the mount.

I am interested in this mount but there appears to be a lot of unsatisfied user who have problems with it sticking to the dash or the phone sticking to the mount.
I picked up an ILuv car mount at the weekend and it's working great, no wobbles and holds the Note in the flipcase too.

Ok, I got to test this out today.
Firstly, the unit itself is very nice and compact, it does not take up much space at all.
It sticks to the dash extremely well, not only does the bottom part use suction but it is also very sticky. I tried with a fair bit of force to pull it off and it wasn't moving once stuck to the dash.
My Note is in a Nillkin case so is slightly heavier then standard but I placed it on the two little grooves that stick out, and then firmly pushed it back so it stuck in place. I then drove to work (and later back home). The ride is quite bumpy in parts and I deliberately drove quite aggressively in an attempt to make the Note fall out but it didn't budge. I can see the 'stickiness' being lost over time but apparently cleaning it with a wet cloth fixes that so only time will tell I suppose.
So far I am pleased with it.
Cheers for the update.
I've just ordered one from mobilefun.de as they have them at 11,99 yoyos.
Any of you coming from the Streak who purchased the SlipGrip commuter car mount will be interested in knowing the Note will fit into it with a slim case (I'm using the BoxWave).
I mentioned this in an earlier post.

I assume you dont mount your phone in winter
I want something that will hold it in landscape in the centre dash.
So that's basically the middle of the car (centre) and the highest tip (of dboard) but not on the glass. That way viewing is much much better and the holder doesn't leave a circle smudge.
Here's my car:

(i want it above the warning lamp button where the multifunction display resides)
Btw, in my city if they see the circle smudge or the holder, they break into your car and look for the gps, which costs me a window to repair and any stolen goods.

Imagnet magnetic car mount

This is a magnetic phone holder. Ive ordered two of these and will post pics/video when they arrive. Looks like a great product.
I also talked to John from the company and suggested they build in qi charging capabilities!
This is on sale for $19.99 and free shipping.

The mount showed up yesterday and is awesome!
I will post a video as soon as i have time. Its still very busy at work from Hurricane Sandy!
I am using this with my UAG case and it works great. NFC works too. Qi test to follow when i get my receiver from China.
There is a small metal disc that sits between your case and phone. Its round and smaller than a half dollar. Thickness is very thin. Its just a hair more than 4 sheets of copier paper. Its much thinner than i thought it would be.
There are also two additional metal discs that have 3m tape on them you can use for other devices. These are the same thickness but are retecangular. Im guessing they are about 2" x 2.5".
The mount has a super sticky suction cup on the bottom. On top where you place your phone, it is soft and flat. This top piece has a ball mount on it so you can swivel it.
See pic below showing the trimmed down rectangular one to fit in the groove of my uag case.
This is a steal at $19.99! Order now before the sale is over!
Update with short video on cinder block wall! Show me another mount that works like this!!!!

This is very nice, I wonder if I can slip that metal between my hyperion batt and seidio cover, not sure if there is enough room.
Its pretty thin. I was able to slip it in between my blackberry cover and battery. I cut it with a good pair of electrician scissors. It's like a thin piece of sheetmetal and is flexible. Try 5 sheets of cut paper, not folded. If that works, you wont have a problem cause its a little thinner than 5 sheets.
Thanks I will def try it and get it if it fits, thx again
just a caution depending on how you place etc.. this may break NFC

I am using one with hyperion battery, the round metal sheet fits between the door and the battery, but yes it breaks my nfc, no big deal i don't use it anyway.
How well does this hold up with bumpy roads, I live in Michigan pot hole season is coming also does the charge cord drag the phone down. It looks really cool.
If you put the disc right over the battery, it will hinder nfc. If you move it down a little, nfc works as normal.
Bumps have no effect. I used it in my work van all day today and it never fell off. Also, the cord does not drag it down or spin it in horizontal mode.
Awesome thanks for the reply
dumb question i know, but how does this affect the phone? I mean with such a strong magnet. I know the old "dumb" phones don't always play nice with magnets but what about the newer phones
The magnet is in the mount. The piece in the phone is metal. I havent noticed any problems so far.
How does this affect the compass while driving?

well, it depends on what you mean by "compass". while using navigation, it doesn't at all (because that is dictated by your movement.) IF you are using the magnetic compass in the phone.. you are always going south. even Ulysses speedometer reads fine (my favorite "car mode" app.)
I just bought the iOttie. Haven't received it yet, but it got TONS of great reviews. Amazon. Check it out on YouTube.
(⊙_⊙)
I had an iottie universal mount (not the one touch) that lasted a week. The suction cup part broke and the suction cup came detached. It was flimsy junk.
Having used both, there is no comparison. The iotte (even the one touch) has a basic clear 25 cent suction cup on it. The imagnet one is super sticky black material. I just dont see an advantage to a clamping style mount versus a magnetic. There is no way i could EVER use a clamp style mount again!
The imagnet suction cup has a patent!
Updated 2nd post with short video.
I have found that the iMagnet stand works quite well with the magnets from the Touchstone mod. I also bought a Khomo rubberized back plate to increase the friction so it doesn't slide. It doesn't work particularly well with a case but is pretty stable otherwise. I've driven around for a couple of days now and my phone hasn't budged. My grand plan is to affix an NFC chip to the iMagnet so that I can just set my phone on it and all of my settings will revert to car mode.

Let us know when you do. I would like to know if there is NFC interference with the magnet and/or metal plate.
That is what is holding me off from buying one of these mounts.

Nfc is not an issue with the metal plate. I will try the magnets later tonight but im guessing it wont be a problem as noted in the touchstone threads.
Case wise, it works great with the round metal plate in both the uag case and incipio silicrylic case.

I don't believe that the NFC should be a problem. I have tried NFC with my Nexus 7 and the Touchstone mod doesn't affect it. Since the NFC chip will sit above the iMagnet base it shouldn't interfere. I think the key is keeping the metal plate/magnets in the bottom half of the phone since the NFC is located at the top of the battery. Once I get everything rigged I will try to upload pictures to better explain.
Also just to be clear I am not using the metal plate from the iMagnet kit and am only relying on the magnets from the Touchstone mod to hold it to the iMagnet base.
