Netflix App

Was able to get my Dinc to run the Netflix app with no issues. Pushed it over to my A101 and no dice. Anyone mess with this yet?

I installed and ran it fine but get "unsupported device" when trying to play a video. I found this link but I couldnt get it to work.

I have Netflix working.
I have UrukDroid-1.1beta2 installed on my Archos 70 but should work with other ROMs if you are rooted.
You just need to open & edit /system/build.prop
I used Root Explore but any other root file editor should work.
Change ro.product.brand=archos
to
ro.product.brand=HTC Vision
and
ro.product.manufacturer=archos
to
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
reboot
Worked for me.

I can confirm this working on A70S running Uruk 1.0 from internal memory. To help others, I used a terminal to gain root ($su), made a backup copy of the build.prop (#cp /system/build.prop /system/build.prop.bak), then copied the build.prop to / and changed the name to build.txt (#cp /system/build.prop /build.txt). Then I changed the permissions to make it writable (#chmod 666 /build.txt). Personally, I hate vi. So, I used astro file manager to open the build.txt file and edit it with the above changes. Then back in terminal copied the edited build.txt back to where it belongs (#cp /build.txt /system/build.prop) and restored the proper settings (#chmod 644 /system/build.prop) and then rebooted via holding down power and selecting reboot.
I only played with the streaming for a few minutes before work this morning. Seems decent. I am really looking forward to getting into it tonight. Thanks for the file changes!
UPDATE: I got a chance to compare the netflix app on my A70S compared to endgadget's walkthrough video on the Nexus S. The app runs, in my opinion, a little slow both loading the first time and in changing tabs or viewing information on a movie/show. But when I loaded my app while watching the Nexus S on the video load, they took about the same time. Same thing with everything else - very comparable times to switch between tabs or get information on a movie/show. As far as quality goes, I have not watched any video completely start to finish yet. But I have noticed some variance in quality. An episode from Season 2 of the Office looked a little pixelated but Austin Powers Goldmember looked nice. Both we very watchable though. The initial buffer took a few seconds longer than I would like but when skipping forward in the video, the video played rather quickly. Overall I am happy the app is out, and will use the crap out of it, but there is definitely some room for improvement.

Do we absolutely need root to edit the build.prop?
I know I can get the file to my PC to edit. I don't know if I need root to get it back...and I did the firmware update.

I don't have my gen8 this weekend my daughter stole it from me so I can't test this.
I have read in the following post that the device check disabled apk will work and wouldn't require root.

Worked on my unrooted a101it 8gb. Thanks a lot. I did get a black screen once but retried and it worked.

Damn, I spent half the day yesterday backing stuff up and installing Uruk so I could use Netflix, and now I don't even need it, haha.

Yeah I was going to do all of that until I found this thread. I really didn't want to attempt root until warranty expired. I was practically doing cartwheels when the netflix-devicecheck-disabled.apk file worked.

The device check disabled version worked great for me. Combine that with 4G LTE tethering from my thunderbolt and I got some good shizz. Thanks for the tip guys!

confirmed working on my A101IT Archos Version of Froyo rooted

I uninstalled the "hacked" ver. and installed the official version, it works fine thanks to the hacked version creator for getting us through a rough patch

I have installed the Netflix app found here on the xda site. It works perfectly on both HTC evolution 4g's I have, both running stock roms. Neither one is rooted. Unfortunately none of the downloads will work on my ideos E-mail slim running 2.2.2 rooted. I can do everything except stream. When I try to stream it just crashes.

Originally put netflix on my archos 101 . Software ran fine. Then netflix a software update message started to appear. I then downloaded the new version 1.4 and i keep getting the same message about an updated version of netflix is needed . I am running android 2.2 and the latest flash player. Im frustrated because it use to work. Can any one help me?

[Q] owners lending library missing; prime videos work on stock root fire?

Hi all,
First, thanks for all of the great help you've all given to the community.
I have a strange issue with my wife's Kindle Fire. Running 6.3.1, after an OTA update, it lost root, and she reported that the Owners Lending Library link disappeared.
I re-rooted with v.96, used OTA RootKeeper to temporarily unroot. Prime Videos work fine but the link is still missing. Any ideas at all?
Searched and couldn't find anyone with a similar issue.

And, I fixed it myself (of course, after posting).
Noticed that the Books - Store looked different than screenshots online, and it turns out that the Google Play "Kindle" app had somehow gotten installed. Uninstalling it fixed the issue. After realizing the store was different, I did find a few threads on it. Anyways, have a good night.

I seem to have the same or similar problem. Rooted KF, temp un-root, Prime member, Books - Store looks different than it should and no lending library link. What exactly did you delete to get the lending library back? I have an "Amazon Kindle" app, but it doesn't seem to be delete-able.

[REQ] WWE Network Fire TV apk

Hey guys, I am looking for the wwe network apk directly from the fire tv, I have a tronsmart s89-h android box, and cannot get the standard wwe network app to work, I am hoping that this will solve all my issues but i cannot find a way to get the apk anywhere. I would appreciate your help! thanks!

That would be amazing! and Yes i Believe the issue has come down to the device not having any kind of gps, Im assuming the fire tv does not have that check, plus it is much more suited for a tv, (landscape mode!)

It's basically the same UI as the PS3 app, but I'll admit, it's a little buggy at times.

So i was able to purchase/own the wwe network app from the online amazon store despite me not technically having a device it would run on, this box can also install the amazon app store no problem, though it obviously only sees the android wwe network app and not this one.. GOOD NEWS is that the app is working on my account! its def a bit wonky but i am hoping it is some stuff i can fix with some DPI xposed changes or something of the like, thanks so much very appreciated, and def works!!

Well, After some playing around, it isnt exactly usable. First off on the menu there is a about an inch or 2 white space on the bottom and right side of screen, i believe this can be fixed with some kind of dpi mod, but not totally sure. secondly, only the home screen loads images, ie, whats playing now, whats coming up, if u go to pay per views, it is just empty boxes with borders, none of the images load until you get to the actual video description, but you really have no idea what you are clicking. Lastly when playing a video (which does indeed work) with my tronsmart tsm-01 air mote i could not do anything but go back, i could not pause i could not get the menu up. i could not fast forward etc. only could go back. So while it is useable to watch summerslam, with no dvr feature thats really about it. maybe the dpi issue will fix everything who knows, I only played around with it for about 15 minutes as i headed to work, but its hardly worth it right now.
As far as getting the amazon app store. probably used more effort typing in this forum than to just simply google 'android app store' : http://bit.ly/uC6tic

i removed the amazon store check, tested the wwe app on my s5. all crunched up but i as able to navigate and play live streams

[Q] Installing FIFA15 App Crash

I currently downloaded FIFA 15 with Google Play Store App (using Market Helper) the application launches and then closes. I am wondering if I did something wrong?

I've found 2 reason why Apps start up and then close. Could be more reasons, I've just found these 2 reasons.
1: The app starts up in portrait mode. Then closes because the AFTV is Landscape mode.
2: Not enough memory. If you reboot your AFTV and then run the app, it might run okay, unless it's a #1 problem.
Could be other reasons, but so far I've found these to be the reason for that behavior.

Thank you so much for verifing that! I wonder if downloading the APK+DATA will let it launch just fine? I am still new to the whole rooting thing so I'll have to research if thats doable and if I can download the data somewhere.

If you just download the apk, it errors out when you run the app, saying it can't download because you haven't paid for your copy. So I had to do the Market Helper trick so I could download it, it downloaded all the data with it, like 1.19GB or something total.

Oh insteresting, out of curiousity can your market helper mimic Amazon Kindle Fire Tablet? My 2.0 version cannot, but the the game is also on Kindle Fire.
I wonder if downloading it and emulating Kindle Fire Tablet it will work since they both technically run FireOS

No it can't do the Fire Tablet either.

Did you find a way to get Fifa 15 running yet?
Actually that was the big hope for me when I decided for the FireTV..... hope we can run it soon

Unfortunately, Google play services has stopped

I'm trying to determine whether google play services stops because of the ROM or because of xposed mods I'm using. Its happening frequently but doesn't really affect much. There's no apps crashing. Its just mildly annoying needing to dismiss the message.
Are others experiencing this? Thought it might be the app amplify so I disabled it but the message still appears. Right now my mods areEnable call recording in CM, xposed torch, greenify, and YouTube adaway.

No, you're not the only one having that issue. In the CM11 for Fire Phone thread you can see people were reporting it. At least for now, since the ROM is beta, we can't expect it to work flawlessly.
P.S.: For the next threads you open in this forum, for Fire Phone or for any other device, it'd be better if you specify if you're rooted and if you used a custom ROM. Otherwise it could cause confusion. Someone reading this question could think stock FireOS has these issues.

Need root for xposed. I was gonna say xposed wouldn't work on fire os but I actually do use it on fire TV so I know that's probably not true. But you're right. Next time I'll give more details.
Beta is typically prone to bugs but I didn't get the "stopped working" message until last note, after activating xposed. Even that's not a clear cut trouble shoot because I've had ROMs run problem free for days then issues arise.
But overall, I am extremely pleased with CM 11! everything I use is working great.
On a side, off topic note, anyone found a way to install milk music on this?

That's weird. I'm using CM11 too, rooted and with Xposed and I don't get the "stopped working" notification. Maybe it's another thing. I remember that when I installed the Android Wear app Google Play Services crashed every 2 seconds (no joke, and no fun).
And about Milk Music, isn't that like asking for Live on YouTube - By Xperia™ to be available on non-Sony phones?

There's an xposed mod called chocolate milk that enables milk to run on many devices but far as I can see its a little dated and not sure which version works (the newest apk from playstore does not install),or if its even supported anymore. Not something I need but trying some new things.
Edit--actually I'm not 100% on the play store apk because I couldn't get apk downloader to fetch it on my Mac. I did pull a couple from other sources and those didn't work.

Oops- this was supposed to be for Milk Music install. Sorry guys!0 uhhh...Nevermind. I'm good.

The apk's did install, I was able to open the milk app, but no sound would play and it prompted that this version was no longer supported and to download the newest version from the play store. This might work for anyone om CM 11, but I couldn't get to the play store to update, it always links you to amazon store. When I opened the play store it wouldn't show to download. There are tricks to change build props with root explorer if you google it. I am not rooted yet so I can''t give it a try. If you click a blank spot the pop up would go away, but the sound wouldn't play.
