Official 2000mAH Battery w/ Back Cover Review - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I decided to purchase an extended battery for the Galaxy Nexus since the original (1750 mAH) battery didn't really live up to my expectations. The original battery gave decent battery life and kept the thickness of the phone to a minimum.
After receiving the battery from ebay member: mulkin, I had inspected the battery and confirmed that it was indeed the "official" extended battery for the GSM model.
I wasn't expecting the battery to come in a couple days since it was coming from South Korea, but it did take less than a week to get here to South California. Packaging was very nice and kept the battery and back cover well protected.

The extended battery cover that was included with the extended battery still has the same texture as the original. The phone also feels better with the new battery cover. The slight thickness it adds still maintains the phones low profile. The only thing it loses is the slight curve of the original battery cover right above the rear speaker. NFC works perfectly and isn't affected at all, it also works well if your using the stock battery with the extended back cover.
Overall, I am happy with the product. Battery life has definitely improved over the couple days I was using it. I am going to attach screenshots of the battery life I am getting, as well as pictures of the extended battery on the phone soon. If you have any questions, just leave a comment.
Thanks.

Thank you for the review with pictures. I have the battery as well, there is a existing thread in regards to this topic to anyone who wants additional information about this battery before making a purchase.
I personally purchased mines from shimshop.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Sam...Accessories&hash=item1c222d0cea#ht_4976wt_905
Also genuine, ~$36 ships from South Korea.. takes about 1.5 weeks. Negri also sells this battery as well but it's ~$50.

Thanks for posting this. I was also surprised how quickly this was shipped in from South Korea (to Montreal, CA).
Also, FWIW, my Otterbox Commuter and SGP Ultra Capsules fit perfectly with the new battery door and larger battery.
And to throw this out there, you can easily get through 24 hours of casual to moderate usage on this thing... And for heavy days, I reach 4 hours of screen on time with ~25-30% remaining (@12 hours unplugged).

Now to find a white extended battery door.

Forgot to mention that this extended battery and door fit snugly into the Incipio Silicrylic cases, too.

I couldn't agree more with your thread.
I also like the fact that - when you set your phone down (without a case), it lies perfect FLAT.
Depends on your own preference, but the aesthetics of it pleases me greatly.

Mine arrived today and I love it. it does add some weight but just feels more sold.looking forward to seeing what screen time I can achieve with this

I just ordered one myself today, looking forward to it

What sort of gains can we expect out of an additional 250mah?
Are we talking about extra hours? Very interested...

I ordered one as well from the shimshop seller. Should arrive in a week or two, will post pics as well when it arrives, and tell you my experience

First off, thanks for the quick review. I'm thinking about ordering one of those too.
Could you tell me if the new battery cover has any gap to the actual phone, by that I mean... does it fit the phone perfectly or does it make any noise when pushing on it?

The new battery cover has no gap at all. It does fit perfectly and there is no noise at all when pushing on the battery cover. I want to attach pictures of the battery on the phone but I don't have a camera on me at the moment.

Is there any shop to order this from in the states or is it still only available through eBay or a Korean shop?

take a look at here, http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-extended-battery-and-cover-for-gsm-galaxy-nexus-226962/

Only 4 hours on screen time? I average over 5 on mobile data with mine, pre 404. I need to do a rundown test to see how much now, probably closer to 6 hours. I do have auto brightness on though. The mah difference isn't huge, but I'll take all I can get and if it even gives a half hour more screen time then its worth it. Feels better in the hand too.

Could you take a picture of the "inside" of the battery cover please? Would be much appreciated... I'm still thinking about buying one for my phone.

I've done some research and it looks like the extra 250 mah will give you about a 14% boost in battery life. So, imagine as if you start out with ~114% battery life, as oppose to ~100%.
Hm... still undecided if that's worth the extra $36 and slight thickness added to the phone...

Wow 5 hours
, that's not bad. I probably would have gotten that too but that day where I took that screen shot, I was listening to a lot of music so that's why the screen time was sort of low.

Seidio 3500mah Extended Battery (w/ Pics)

I received my 3500mah on Friday with case. I haven't done any formal testing, but its been off the charger since last night on a fresh, untreated ROM and after a full day of work (including 35 minutes of Pandora on my commuter) its at 73%.
Now, some blown out pics:

Pros:
There is no debating this; the camera lens is now OFF of flat surfaces!
With the changed dimensions of the phone, I find it easier to hold.
If you like a more pronounced presence in your pants, this phone will help provide it
You know when you have left your phone behind. This is great if you are a /b/tard that can't remember anything.
Holy crap the battery life!
Battery does not get hot. I haven't felt a temp change at all at 1190Mhz.
The balance of the phone has been maintained.
Slip-free material on the rear cover feels better and is more tactile.
The rear cover snaps in tighter than the OEM.
Cons:
Its heavier. Not as much as you would think, but it definitely adds weight. Not necessarily always a bad thing.
Its fatter. The overall size reminds me more of a PDA than a phone now.
The material used on the rear cover is impervious to all sticky material. I ordered two covers, the other one has been ground down trying to fit an M2 disc on the back and nothing is working. I've tried 3M tape, 3M windshield tape, Super Glue, and JBWeld. Its futile.
There is always the off chance that a battery goes off in my hand like a grenade, killing me, my puppy, two cats, two chinchillas, and possibly my wife in one hellacious blaze of glory. Hopefully Bon Jovi will be playing at the time.
Conclusion:
[4.5/5] I ordered an extended battery that was twice the size of my regular battery with a rear cover replacement and got exactly what I expected. Its not for everyone; But if you want your phone to feel more substantial and have a battery that has a half-life apparently on par with the radioactive isotopes at Chernobyl, this might be the battery for you.
More to come as I play with it! Post your thoughts and experiences.
More (resized this time) pics, showing the pronounced camera protection.
I agree, I've had mine now for approx 2 weeks and could never go back. I've been running Hero's Baked Snacks Roms and can easily get 2 days with moderate use if needed (I charge every night however). I'm usually around 55% - 60% (approx) after a full day.
It's definitely fatter but the phone is large anyway. The only drawback for me is that i cant fit any case on it which kinda sucks..

Agreed. I wanted to show the recessed lens because the back cover kind of acts like a case. But I would like to skin it a little more.
I need to find a way to stick the Soundgate disc on the back. This is driving me insane.

I got mine in the mail today. When my girlfriend called to ask me what I was doing this morning, I responded, "waiting on my new battery, of course. " I was able to charge it before I left for work this evening. I had to restart 3x before I reached a full charge. I will be happy when its properly calibrated. Four hours later I am at 89%. I love it.

I wish they'd make this with a Rugged Case that fits it...the Rugged is bulky enough, I think they'd get a good amount of sales for that.

but before I do, has anyone bought one ? thoughts ?
why spend 69.95 for the 3500 that already comes with extended battery cover, then spend another 29.95 for another cover?
It is a great battery. Been using mine now for a few weeks and have gotten so used to it I don't even notice the bulge anymore. I does make it easier to hold.
Most days now I end up with about 70% battery left. Having the battery power there to do what you want to is nice.
mine will arrive Thursday, looking forward to it

Probably in the thread about the 1750mah Slim Extended Life Battery?
First night with my new battery, and Seidio did not disappoint. Just like with my G1 and extended battery, I was able to go 12 hours of very heavy use. Internet/Games/Phone/Text/ and I watched Avatar in HD using my V-Moda Remix headphones, and streamed about 3 hours of Pandora. After all that I was still at 35% before I gave up and went to bed.
There is no doubt that with moderate to heavy usage this phone will last two days and with light usage a week.
Ok I'm gonna put my flame suit on for this one but I purchased the ebay battery rated at 3000 mah and I think the rear cover looks much better than the seidio one. I get approximately 2 days of use on it while running the baked snacks rom and I only payed $ 10 shipped. The battery never gets hot and the battery life is amazing. I will post up pictures if you guys want but to me the seidio is very expensive and looks really ugly. It's just a bulge out of no where while the ebay one has a smoother transition.

No flaming here
I've been burned in the past by no-name gray market batteries and I sleep a little easier at night knowing I can hunt down the maker of this battery should it do the whole Holy Hand Grenade thing on me.
Seidio is much more likely to hold their quality control to a higher standard since they back the product with their name, whereas a no-name can sell you a 3000mAh battery that is really only a 1650 and they don't have to watch their name dragged through the mud.
Its really a personal preference, and its a very good thing that we both have the choice to put our money where we want.

[MINI Review] OEM Moto Extended Battery 1930mAh

Well I decided to go pick up a Original 1930 mAh DROID X Motorola Extended battery. I USE my phones to the hilt, I sync everything, use everything, and take full advantage of all the features like you should when you have a device like these. All in all I am not a battery scrimper, I have a charger at home, one in the car, and a USB hanging out of my laptop everywhere. LOL. I have always hated the Tumor that sticks off the phone when you are using a EB's, but since you can barely Moto's EB is even in the phone I thought I would give it a shot.
Now to make this to the point..... When I put the battery in new it was at 30% I ran it down to the 5% warning and red blinking light. After a full charge from the Wall charger (Which only took 2 Hours BTW) I pulled it off and ran it "business as usual"... Calls (About 2 hour 20 mins worth), Browsing, Chat, Pics, Texts, Apps, Wifi on, Downloads, Played Rock band for awhile, Full sync to all 5 Gmail accounts, FaceBook every hour and Twitter the same. Plus a 1300mHz OC (Low Voltage) with out Screen off or battery low profiles (I thought that would be unfair). Here are the findings....
Total Time Unplugged: 14 Hours 34 Minutes
My setup is in my Sig but... basicly it is Rooted, I stripped ALL Bloat from the Stock ROM, and like I said before Droid OC to 1300 (Low Voltage), Also... GoTo Lockscreen
So now.... I can leave my chargers at home and plug in once overnight. I have to say, this is the best $50 to spend on the phone.
NOTE: This was only after the FIRST charge, after 3 complete charges I can only assume it will be better.
EDIT>>> For a comparison... Running the stock battery I would be at 20-30% by 12:00 (Noon) Easily
Screenies below.

One thing that is concerning to me is why does the first screen show your battery at 33oC? Were you charging at that time, though the icon doesn't seem to show that. I hardly get 28oC at 1.3ghz stress test while charging.

I have this battery too, and I use the standard battery door with it. It is a little snug, but it does fit. This avoids any excess bulk. I have used it this way for a few months now. I am running apex and overclocked to 1.3 and my battery life is great.
I've had this battery for quite a while now and I've found my battery dying A LOT faster than it used to haha. When I first got the battery, it was amazing, now.... not so much haha. Been doing charge cycles and clearing battery stats but it still remains bad haha. Still much better than the stock battery though haha.

Verizon and Motorola should give you a commission!
Due to your review, I went back to the Verizon store and bought the battery. Heck, the salesperson never told me that they even had this available, or I would have bought it with the phone!
I'm running it in an Otterbox Defender case, with the battery cover that came with the battery. So far no issues, but I'm getting much better battery life.
Thanks!
I'm going to the VZW store today to get this battery, thanks for your great review!

Hey, I have an Otterbox Defender and I have been holding off on picking up one of these batteries. I really want the extended battery but I don't know how it would work with the case.
So the battery does come with an extra back plate for it? Have you tried the battery on it's own without a back plate and just using the Otterbox case and if so, how does it fair?
me too! just got it today!
The battery comes with its own battery cover. It didn't feel thinner, but a bit heavier. I'm guessing it's a heatsink.
I put the battery in, put the cover on, and put the Otterbox case on. It was a tighter fit, I had to be a little careful in ensuring that the two halves of the otterbox case locked together. But it's together and I didn't have to modify anything. I've been using it ever since, and haven't had any problems. And I *love* the extra battery life! I routinely have 40% left at the end of the day, and I'm a pretty avid user. I have an Exchange account on push, gmail on push, and use google voice constantly.

Galaxy S compatible 1800mah battery for $20

Hello there, Captivate people! Visitor from the Vibrant forums here. We found and tested an 1800mah battery that, while intended for the Epic Touch 4G, fits and works perfectly in the Galaxy S and all it's variants. I've personally tested it in a Samsung Fascinate and a Samsung Vibrant. The Fascinate was a tighter fit than the Vibrant, but the battery door closed just fine.
I've personally tested the battery over the past week and it lasts significantly longer than the default 1500mah battery (I'm a relatively new Vibrant user, so my battery is only a couple months old). The math seems to match up with the 1800mah claim. To be clear, this isn't as surprising as it would be if this were a random Chinese ebay battery. This battery is made by Samsung for the Epic Touch 4G. It's noticeably thicker than the stock Galaxy S battery, but not so thick that the battery door on the Vibrant and Fascinate won't close completely.
The battery can be found here:
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28506
I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the best 3rd party battery for my phone, and lo and behold, the best one comes from Samsung itself.
If you'd like to read more than just my humble opinion, here is a link to the thread started in the Vibrant forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262035
Hope this information is helpful. Enjoy your Galaxy S!
has anyone tested to see if this fits in a captivate phone?
Great question. Anyone have any contacts at AT&T/Sprint/Verizon to see if we can do a test fit?
I love CM7 but it drains the battery fast. 1850 capacity would be great and a nice boost.

I think everyone bought these on Sunday. It will be Friday or Monday before you see a report.
Just received the battery from mobilecity. I was leaving my home as I saw the package, so no photos or long term report. Initial impressions though:
Most importantly, the phone works. I'm typing this on it. The battery came with a 45% charge, so normal.
The battery is a little thicker than the original, and a little heavier. The back cover is slightly tight fitting.
Will try charging in a little.

Here is the battery in the phone, plus attempts to show how little the battery size affects the back cover:
Basically, it's barely noticeable and is ever so slight. It just makes the latch a little bit harder to close, that's all.

Extended Batteries... Mugen vs Original Samsung

I am looking to keep my white GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus naked as the bulk is just too much, and I need as much comfort in my hand as possible...
That being said: does anyone want to chime in on how the Mugen extended battery is performing compared to stock and/or the original Samsung /w battery door?
I have the original samsung extended battery, but no white door to put on...
Thanks guys.
One thing to note if you are buying a replacement battery... the NFC antenna is built into the battery. If this is a feature you use, make sure your new battery has it.
I am waiting for my 4000mah mugen battery including nfc. But would also love the pogo car dock.. Too bad in does not fit anymore with the New battery..

Both will give you about 80% of the capacity they put on the label. Everyone else will give you much less than that, 70% tops, and often half or less.
I think these cheapo $10 3800 extended batteries on ebay are pretty good if you come in with the right expectations.
Yes, we know they aren't 3800, and are closer to 3000, but that still gets you about 1000mah more than the stock battery.
Yes, they lose their capacity over time more quickly than a genuine battery, but you should treat these types of batteries as disposable.
Buy one for $10, use it for 6 months and then buy another one.

The only thing that keeps me away from buying them is that batteries, in a general way, are pretty dangerous for the environment, specially cheap ones. And I wouldn't like to make that kind of waste buying several batteries.

You will be happy with it. I have it for the CDMA nexus and it gets me through the day with heavy use easily.
My Mugen Power 4000mah battery is on its 2nd cycle and it works like a charm already! With heavy use and constantly nfc + wifi + hsdpa on it lasts 2,5 days

it adds a little thickness but not that much, actually you won't notice any difference while holding it and using it with one hand
the only downside is the back cover, I don't know what its called in English , but the tips thats go in the phone body can easily be broken
( look at the image i circled the thing as an example - the photo not mine )
what do you think about this?

Could I trouble someone to measure the thickness of the Seidio 3500 for GSM? Looking to get one, but want to see if I can do a little modding to fit it in a case without using that unsightly back door. From the comparison pic above, it seems to be a hair over double the thickness of stock battery. Correct?

Review: Seidio 3500mAh Super Extended Life Battery and Surface Extended Combo

Thanks for checking out my review. I have a lot more bigger pictures of this set up on my blog.
http://chrismchoi.blogspot.com/
Please check it out. Just getting it started. Please hit thanks if you find this informative or helpful and I will keep trying to review products for you guys.
We've all fallen in love with our Galaxy S III. What would have made our phones better? Extended battery life. Thanks to Seidio, they've provided us with the solution. I was relieved to find that the rubberized back was an added bonus. There has been much interest in this finish due to the sleek design of the factory back.
If I ran the numbers right it, the battery has a 40% larger capacity while still maintaining the sleek design.
The total weight of the extended battery and case came out to 6.53 oz. Factory weight was 4.76 oz.

The SURFACE Extended case is the standard SURFACE case in the Seidio line up. Straight and to the point. It's the minimalist case. It covers up the corners. It's nice and thin.
Battery installed.
The hump in the back made the phone much easier to grip. The hump fell right into the palm of my hand. It didn't slide around like it did without it.
Fitment was dead on. I've been trying different back covers and the Seidio cover fits the best out of all the aftermarket covers I have tested. It's even all around without leaving any open gaps.
The SURFACE Extended case stays snug. You don't have to worry about the phone slipping out.
I was glad to see that Seidio took the time and made the case fit. You can see how accurate the openings are for the camera, speaker and flash.
The standard Seidio clip. Same as always. The top mechanism is still the same design we know and love. You never have to worry about it wearing down and cracking. It has the same spring design.
Conclusion
I'm in the wireless industry, so the the extra life is put to good use. The numbers do not lie. This is moderate use throughout the day. Maps was triggered by Google Now. I'm sure it would have last much longer without it. This would equate to almost 72 hours without a charge. I apologize I stopped at 49%. I will redo the test once I am settled back in. It's highly impressive from how it performed and I am content in this product.
MSRP: $69.95 for the Seidio Super Extended Battery available at the Seidio Online Store.
$49.95 for the SURFACE Extended Combo also available at the Seidio Online Store.
I definitely recommend this extended battery. Seidio has always been there for me when it comes in terms of quality and reliability. NFC compatible battery is available for around $5 more. I've had their extended batteries on my Blackberry's and my Evo. So I'm sure this won't be the last! Tomorrow I am participating in a 12+ hour event, I am confident I won't have to worry about a charge during that time. I'm looking forward to showing off my new battery.
Not something I would get but I'm sure it's great to have that much juice Thank you for the review.

the back is kind of [email protected]@...
this thing looks a little thicker then the 4200 ones that people are getting. does it have NFC? etc etc.
Holy crap, you barely used the phone. Can you try some kind of stress test?
Nicely written though

It was moderate usage throughout the day. At the amount of time it was on... the %'s show. It's not like I'm gonna sit on Facebook 20 out of 50 hours. Sure I can do a stress test, but those numbers mean nothing when you don't know how it equates to real usage.
I'll see what I can do.
Interesting
I bought a 3300 mAh battery myself.
With stock battery, i got 6-7 hours of screen time with wifi on and pretty low brightness.
With my new battery i got over 16 hours of screen time with wifi on and brightness at maximum.
This is the GT I9300 with stock everything.
Nice review. Any specific reason you went with the Seidio over the Mugen?
I had a Mugen on my HTC G2 and it was fantastic. I never found myself frantically looking for a power outlet.
It's just too thick for my liking, I can't use some accessories with it
way too thick and ugly for me
had the seidio extended on my evo 4g.... straight love is all i can say.... considering the nfc ext for my s3 now....never tried mugen....actually jus heard of it... cheers

I say Mugen belongs on Hondas. I've always been a fan of Seidio cases and tried out their battery and it worked well for me. So I stuck with Seidio and didn't change.

Lady hands. That is all.
Why does it look the same size of not bigger than the Hyperion 4200 which is 700 mah bigger. That's a big difference it should be a millimeter or 2 smaller.

Gonna be ordering the backdoor to use with my hyperion battery and fhe extended case. I cracked my hyperion backdoor since the plug is tight with the honeycomb case.

Why does Hyperion claim to be 4200 when not 4200? Think.

It will not fit a honeycomb case correctly at all. the "bump" is lesser in width and length.. it will look like butt. (FYI)
---------- Post added at 06:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:17 PM ----------
can we get a length and width dimension of the "bump"?
and is the "nonbump" the same size as stock?
I ask, because THIS may work with a DRACO!
(and if you decide to sell it, contact me, You are a great seller.)
Extended Surface Case.
Seidio also has other new cases out. I think they have an Active as well.
