Pixel 2 XL flashing stock images, target didn't report max-download-size

Hey everybody.
So I had my phone rooted for a week now, but I had plenty of problems with root (Magisk 16.4, TWRP 3.2.1.0). Running Android P beta p2.
I wanted to simply restore the phone to it's stock state. Main idea was to get OS reinstalled and stock recovery flashed over TWRP.
When ever I tried to flash the boot.img from the stock image in fastboot I got the error saying "FAILED (remote: Requested download size is more than max allowed".
So mid process I read somewhere I might have to unlock unlock_critical. I tried running that but no response from the phone. I didn't want to interrupt so I left it running for a few minutes, came back and nothing has changed. Except for the phone not being able to boot to Android. And so here I am stuck in a boot loop.
So I read here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/hard-bricked-t3770769
And realized maybe I should try this skipsoft toolkit. Well no luck.
This is what I get when I try to use option 9. (Download/Extract/Flash Google Factory Stock Image [Flash Part or Whole Rom]). I choose to flash the whole ROM.
Here is what I got.
Starting Flash Process..
Flashing Bootloader Image..
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'bootloader' (36344 KB)...
FAILED (remote: Requested download size is more than max allowed
)
finished. total time: 0.003s
An error occured when flashing the image
Try rebooting the device manually back to fastboot mode:
1. Unplug the usb cable
2. Hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until it reboots to Fastboot Mode.
From the main menu in the Toolkit choose the Download/Extract/Flash menu, then
select Flash previously downloaded image.
Sometimes there is a glitch in the flash process and doing it again will fix it.
Press any key to return to the Main Menu..
I gave Deuces Bootloop tool script a try and this is what I got:
Deuces-flash-all-script-V4.5-Windows

I don't have this device but, your best bet is probably to post this question within the following thread that's specific to your device.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3702418
Good Luck!

I have a Lenovo A6020l36, and I'm trying to flash stock ROM, but no success. Tried to flash with QFIL, but I'm getting this error:
ERROR: function: sahara_rx_data:237 Unable to read packet header. Only read 0 bytes.
ERROR: function: sahara_main:924 Sahara protocol error
ERROR: function: main:303 Uploading Image using Sahara protocol failed
Download Fail:Sahara Fail:QSaharaServer Failrocess fail
Finish Download
can someone help me??
Redownload stock rom and reinstall Qfil. Do you have OEM Unlock toggled? if not, the bootloader could be refusing to install the stock rom and you'll need to install a custom rom before. And don't try to install a lower android version. It could give errors or bugs after installing the rom.

[Solved] Stuck at bootloader, can't flash factory image.

Hi, yesterday I tried to flash a factory image to start fresh and the power went out mid flashing. Now the phone is stuck at bootloader.
I already tried multiple computers and cables, also have lastest platform tools and the phone is unlocked using fastboot flashing unlock and fastboot flashing unlock_critical.
Trying to flash factory image outputs this:
Code:
Sending 'bootloader' (36356 KB) FAILED (Write to device failed (Invalid argument))
fastboot: error: Command failed

Trying to flash bootloader using
Code:

outputs
Code:
fastboot: error: Device does not support slots
.
Also recovery doesn't work, not even booting the .img using fastboot boot twrp.img

Just report your thread to the moderator team designated to your area, which I am not, and have them change the thread title to what you want. Glad you figured out your problem :good::laugh:

I'm having the same trouble that you did got the same stuff to pull up and everything all you did was switch out your data cable

TWRP failed install on 3a XL Android 9

I have been trying and failing to get TWRP installed on my Pixel 3a XL running Android 9 stock image
Trying the recommended install instructions from the TWRP website, I keep getting the following error;
Code:
C:\platform-tools>fastboot boot twrp.img
Sending 'boot.img' (65536 KB) FAILED (Write to device failed (no link))
fastboot: error: Command failed
C:\platform-tools>fastboot recovery twrp.img
fastboot: usage: unknown command recovery
C:\platform-tools>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
Sending 'recovery' (65536 KB) FAILED (Write to device failed (no link))
fastboot: error: Command failed
I have ensured the bootloader is unlocked, I have updated drivers from the OEM package, I can see devices properly with fastboot and adb, and I've even flashed stock images with fastboot. I've tried looking up this error, but all results point to solutions that don't work, or deleted posts. If anyone has some insight, I'd very much appreciate it.
Update to the latest version of Android or try an older version of TWRP. The latest version of TWRP doesn't like Android 9 (possibly other versions as well).
I believe this was the last update for twrp on android 9
