Compressed Photos - HTC One X

Has anyone else noticed the file size for photos taken on the one x? My Photo's taken at full resolution are only coming in at circa 1.8mb - seems rather small often images at the same resolution we're double the size on my DHD.

I use Camera ZOOM FX, much better app than the stock, it also not as aggressive with compression in post processing.
P.S. Just did a quick test, photo taken in Camera Zoom FX (2.7mb) is twice the size of photo in stock camera app (1.4mb).

I think we lose the cool features of the stock app such as the burst mode and the recording video and taking pictures

You can also have more than one camera app. Stock for burst mode, one for taking lower compression photo and another for social media.
Edit: just tried burst mode in the camera zoom app, and it is faster the stock! You can take up to 32 photos in one burst around 8 sec!
It looks like the app uses video recording for the duration of the burst and process the photos afterword. It is an interesting way of doing burst mode.

Good point Or I can hope the DEVs can fix the high compression rate. Some Useful Data must be getting lost

Camera app

On the Galaxy Nexus, I'm not too happy with the stock camera app. Many a times the camera does a bad job of post processing and the pictures look completely un-natural from the surroundings they were snapped in. Mostly it has to do with indoor photos. However I've found that adjusting the exposure setting in the camera app does help a bit to make the indoor photos a bit better.
Now I want to know if there are any apps out there who automatically do this kind of stuff? More than just setting the exposure, but to get a good image by loading various values from the camera sensors and post-processing? I'm not looking for any FX apps for retro, vignette effects and such. Just an app which snaps better photos than the stock camera?
And if you guys have tried those, could you please post side-by-side photos of the stock and the app for comparison?
I don't care if its FREE or PAID, as long as it snaps photos which will make me smile.
Thanks.

Camera app with potential - Camera VF-5

Guys,
I’ve just stumbled across a new camera app called Camera FV-5 on the play store. It might not be something for everyone, but if good support for the One X could be implemented – I think it has a lot of potential for people with a photographic background.
Would really like to know what people think before I contact the developer.
Here's the website:
http://www.camera.flavionet.com/
Bugsy
Here are a list of features (Copy/Pasted) from the Play Store description. I will mention that the RAW feature isn't RAW as such - it saves the final image in lossless PNG format instead of Jpeg.
• All photographic parameters are adjustable and always at hand: exposure compensation, ISO, light metering mode, focus mode, white balance and program mode.
• DSLR-like viewfinder display: see exposure time, aperture and stops display with EV and bracketing settings.
• Full fledged exposure bracketing: from 3 to 7 frames, unlimited stops spacing, plus custom EV shifting.
• Built-in intervalometer: make stunning timelapses (even bracketed/HDR timelapses) and time-controlled picture series.
• Program and Speed-priority modes.
• Long exposure support: take beautiful night photos and light trails with long exposure times up to 60 seconds*.
• JPEG as well as RAW (PNG**) image formats for lossless photo capturing, perfect for post-processing.
• EXIF and XMP sidecar metadata support.
• Self timer for delayed shooting.
• Autofocus, macro, touch-to-focus*** and infinity focus modes, plus a focus lock switch (AF-L).
• In background photo developing and processing allows a smooth, uninterrupted camera operation.
looks interesting will give it a go

Sorry, I didn't see that.
Edit: Now I see why. I started my thread a couple of weeks or so before that thread was made
Since the thread is made, another that I use and is worth checking out is 'Shot Control' no PNG format but produces better reproduction of the scene in my opinion, particularly the colours and exposure.
But it is a camera app not a recording app correct?
I think the camera on One X is fine for images just the recording that needs to be improved.

Thanks, I'll take a look.
For a quick comparison between the stock camera, FV-5, camera 360 and camera ICS, check out my quick review for more info.

I'm definitely going to check this out. The camera was the reason for me getting the HOX so i'll dive in.
Will report back shortly.
you should try lgCamera (lite in playstore and pro from the internet)
you'll get a photocamera and videorecorder
you get better photo's, 4,5mb instead of 1,5mb of HTC (less compression, better quality)
with videorecorder you can get smoother movies with nice sound,
- you can set bitrate till 100mbps, but I think 20mbps is enough (the SIII uses 17mbps for 1080p, htc uses 11mbps) so set it to 20mbps, for smoother movies
- record in stereo at max 320kbps with 48hz
- record in 3gp or mp4, but mp4 is better for the One X

[Q] Camera problems

Hello!
I need some assistance regarding the HOX stock camera app.
You see, the photos i tace with the One X turns out really bad.
My old (old, old, old) iPhone 3GS kicks this one's ass.
The images turns out grainy and low res. It's set to 8mpx and all settings are stock.
Now i thought it was a hardware problem but when trying other camera apps souch as Camera Zoom FX they turn out pretty great.
The stock camera app pictures is about 1.5-1.7 mb while the Camera Zoom fx are at a natural ca 3.5mb.
Photo taken with stock camera app: 8mpx: http://oi45.tinypic.com/n2odar.jpg
Photo taken with Camera Zoom FX, 8mpx: http://oi48.tinypic.com/i5ver8.jpg
HOX stock: http://oi49.tinypic.com/21dizcx.jpg
Camera Zoom FX: http://oi48.tinypic.com/315cvg0.jpg
What could be causing this problem, or should I simply return it?
Do you have the stock camera app 8mp set to 16:9 or 4:3 format? I noticed with my own testing that the 16:9 format uses less of the sensor and you dont get full 8mp images resulting in lower image size. The 4:3 format is getting me 2.8mb+ image size.

You seem to have already answered your first question, and as to whether to return it or not because the stock camera app over compresses images, well, up to you.
Stock cam app compresses so you can have burst mode. Third party apps don't have the same speed as stock camera, but compensates with quality. And no, even with the stock app, the 3GS camera is worse.
harlz: I've tried both. 4:3 gives me a slightly better image.
I'ts strange thoug. Yesterday I rebooted the phone and took a picture, the screen was black for about 3 sek and then it took a photo that was just amazingly good. I took about tree more great pictures that ended up on ca 4mb. But now. I'm down to about 2mb and the images just looks like crap.
What could be causing this? Is anyone experiencing something like this?

RAW Support and long exposures

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a way to save images as RAW in the Moto Z Play?
Also, the manual (pro) mode allows you to change the exposure duration but this seems to be maxed to 1/6 - any way to get to longer exposure times?
Thank you.
No idea about the RAW support but if you want to take long exposure shots there are a few camera apps on the Play Store which should do the trick (Camera FV-5 Lite for example) but I never tried any so you may have to try a few in order to find something you're happy with.

Cheers! I've got Camera FV-5 installed and it does present longer exposure times, but I cant tell the difference between them and the stock camera photos. For example, photos taken in stock camera at 1/6 look the same as FV5 at 5 second exp. I don't have my phone to hand but will post some examples later.

I'm not surprised if there's no differences between the 2 but I thought you could make 30 seconds exposure shots with Camera FV-5 (which would surely make a difference with the stock camera)
About RAW support, from what I've read the Z Play doesn't support it unfortunately. You'd need the TrueZoom mod to get RAW support, which is quite an expensive buy.

Edit: Tried to save RAW with Snap but although it gives me the option I was not able to find a RAW image on my card...
I use the Snap Camera app from Playstore. It's extremely versatile and gives you tons of options and it has RAW support with our Z Play.
It needs some time to try out all options and find out the best for the phone and it also costs a few bucks (although there is a free version too). But I think it's worth it. For example it's also the only app I've found which let's you tourn of the denoise filter which is sometimes very helpfull when making pictures of landscapes which lots of details.
The interface is a little annoying at first but you can turn off everything and build your own interface with the free customizable shortcut buttons (settings - advanced - on screen settings).
It has also a good support on XDA.
Thanks for this. It's odd, camera fv 5 says the phone does not support RAW. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What really bugs me though is the exposure times. I'll give it a try to see what sort of image I get with a 30 sec exposure now.

IMG image - Stock camera with everything auto and exposure at 1/6s. Looks like garbage.
DSC image - Camera FV 5, everything auto and exposure at 20s. Looks like dark garbage.
If im not mistaken, Camera2API supports raw format. Whenever Lenovo finally enables it (Nougat?) we should be able to export to raw format.

I found that long exposure shots have a very limited use :-\
True it's not something you'd use everyday, but it would've been good to have this work as it should. The only other thing I can think of is that they've nerfed it on purpose so the camera mod sells.

DEPTH CAM as NORMAL CAM. Can we use this for 3D picture/video?

Someone found a way to use depth cam as normal cam that took 13mp image https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...miui-stock-camera-portrait-mode-dual-t3816069
now, can we use this knowledge to create or mod a camera app to take 3d picture/video?
theoretically, the easiest way should be simply allowing both camera to take photo / record video simultaneously. This will allow very easy post on a computer to merge them into one 3d picture or 3d video.
or as a workaround, maybe.. simply open https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...miui-stock-camera-portrait-mode-dual-t3816069 AND google camera on split-view, and initiate recording/take a pic?
i cant test it as im still waiting 100 hours left for unlock.
thankyou
It's no use because of interpolation. Our depth cam is 5MPx, so if there is a real way to shat 3D pictures they will be half-blured because the 5mpx picture will be expanded to match 13mpx.

the reverse should work then, 13mpx scaled to 5mpx
