Flygrip? - General Accessories

I was watching a YouTube video the other day and it was a review on the Flygrip and it looked pretty cool. I was wondering if anyone has used a Flygrip before and if it was worth the $30

I'm waiting for mine to arrive at the doorstep. Will update upon receipt.

Plenty of reviews and free shipping code here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423613

This could be useful for me. I'm starting to get a little RSI in my right thumb. This looks like it would support it.

I have had the flygrip for ~6 months. I really like it.
lt broke the other day. I emailed the Flygrip folks and they said it was due to a design flaw. They sent me a new one with the new revised design. Free of charge.
It is really useful. Helps to have a secure hold on your device. And also doubles as a landscape kickstand. Because the galaxy note is so big, the device will not stand in portrait with the kickstand. It just topples over.
It folds flat. Fairily flat. Only 7-8mm.

Mine just came in today I suggest if you get one use some duct tape (or another type of tape) to stick it in back. That way you can get a better feel for where you want it and don't waste one sticky.
Cause that's what I just did.
But other than that it's comfortable, quick to open, and once you stick your fingers in it a few times (heehee) it becomes very nice!
I don't use a case (even though they offer a free one for my phone) So it's nice to have a better hold on my phone.
I'm going to buy another one in a few months for my friends.

Hello, I noticed that you may want a kickstand that will help stand your Galaxy Note better. I have developed one that might be just the ticket for you - although not designed as a grip, with the blade open, it can be used to give yourself a better grip - see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208873

Take a short strip of packing tape and fold over one end so that you have something to grip if you want to take it off - it will have less adhesive goo on your device to clean off - that's what I did when I was first testing correct placement on my kickstand4u tm

Think i want to get this for my kindle touch because it sucks when it falls on my face while i'm reading it in bed...

It's hard to hold in bed, I use my kickstand4u tm like a flygrip, but I find my arm gets tired holding my GS3 like that, which is pretty lightweight let alone trying to hold my Samsung Tab 7.0 Plus over my head for that long, I know I would still drop it on my face and with the weight of my arm attached, I'd probably knock myself out LOL!
You just got to either have a strong arm to hold in that position for a long time or set it on a bedside nightstand and do the reading that way.
So using a kickstand that was designed for all mobile devices as a true kickstand rather than a flygrip that can be used as a kickstand for small devices like a phone, this might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087034

Green Ranger - Thank you!

I prefer the flygrip because i use it for the one handed solution mostly, and for the issues with portrait orientation, flygrip made a Gravity model designed for devices that are big. its on my note2 WITH the Otterbox Defender case. so far its wonderful, but i do like the idea of the kickstand4u.

A realy perfect Leather Case

from ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270831391457&ssPageNam e=ADME:L:OC:AU:1123
review:
After my first disapointing buy from ebay i bought this "sexy"
synthetic leather case.
Its weight is 290 grams.
Is a very-very slim case and when it closed, the case is tightly fixed on the tablet.
It has 3 deep grooves for standing and the tablet is very stable in these positions.
The philosophy of this case is "to not hiding nothing from the tablet when you use it."
On the back side there is a gentle opening for the camera.
It smells like leather.
The close clip aplly a good force to keep the case closed.
Every button or socket of the tablet is accesible with closed case
And finally i am happy, and this is the most important
Looks good, does it have a typing angle? What is the name?
also are you able to charge the tab without having the case open? i have one such and i need to have my case open each time i charge which is a pain
This is maybe the case I'm looking for. Can you please share the name and the link for the case. Since you can't post links, replace for examples the dots of the url with spaces or some other characters.
Maybe this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320786081962#ht_2592wt_1165
You have to open the case when charging (if I remember right).
I bought this. Premium quality indeed.
EDIT:
cheaper one

The Style is the same like "PyroSkins and Vipertech" but what about the leather quality?

I must say the case looks really nice!
I was wondering about the 3 viewing angles though - do they firmly support the Tab? Would hate to buy it and then find out it slips and falls out when I set it up on one of the angles (I saw that happen before...). Also, is it possible to use this case to prop your Tab up when you put it in your lap (in bed or something similar)? Or is it too flimsy?
And do you feel the extra weight when you carry the tab around? I really love how light it is right now, you don't even notice you have it in your bag (with the standard samsung pouch on) and it's really easy to hold it in one hand and typing with the other if you're walking around the house.

The gaps for the 3 viewing angles are deep enough, and yes you can use it in your lap, my wife do it often.

is still light it is just 290 grams more.
but if you want to use it with one hand, i think that the best way is
to hold it in portrait like a book because the total weight is about 850 grams
Well you got me sir, just ordered one myself. Hope it works as well as you described
Will report back once I have it and test it out a bit ^^
Can anyone confirm if this will fit tmobile galaxy tab 10.1?

Isn't it the same size? If it is, it should fit... can't help you out there though as I have a 7500 one.
The same case, with a new name, posted once again in a new thread. This was $12 on amazon last week.
Really? I sure couldn't find it when I looked (didn't look really hard though)
Doesn't really matter though, if it's a good case I'm more then willing to spend $23 on it. The most basic samsung pouch costs 25€ (about $35) here :S.

Aye, you're right. Wouldn't help me though, since amazon tells me that "there is a slight problem with my order" (they can't ship it to my place for some reason).
Still, good to know a cheaper option might exist for some people, thanks!

For people trying to find one from the UK...
I purchased a look a like case from here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005ECHQ4C
I was struggling to find it as cheap as in the US for example.
The one from the above link, seem to be very good so far. All viewing angles work great, both on a flat surface and on my lap. The typing position is my most used.
'Leather' quality seems good so far. Of course it is going to add some weight, but not really an issue for me. ALL ports/buttons are fully accessible, inc charging when case is closed.
its a great case

The water proof thread

So to kick it off, I've got two "pouches" that are supposed to be watertight. I haven't checked if they are actually water proof, but I can say something about the fit (or misfit).
1. Had the Hagløfs Watatait for the S1. Plastic made it impossible to insert the phone. I had to use a metallic case on the phone to get it in the pouch.
The S3 have the same problem. Its slightly less "clingy", but edges on phone get stuck before fully inserted. There is no room for a phone with case.
2. Got the Overboard case from mobilefun. S3 slides nicely into the pouch. Locking feels safe enough, to the point of being over-engineered. The clear plastic window is slightly small, making it hard to pull down the notification menu. Also a bit fiddly to find the power and volume buttons.
Its also a very tight fit. I suspect its made for the iphone, with room for protection for that phone. Any case that offer enough protection for the S3 make it too big for this pouch.
So anyone else have a watertight pouch case they want to share with the rest of us?
I'm a biker, after much trial and error I found the Northcore surfing cases and bought one for my old phone (Desire). Got my S3 today and while tight it does fit the bare phone with no problems and leaves it easily operable. I usually have the phone strapped to my left forearm and have some capacitive thread stitched into the index finger of the right glove and a bluetooth headset for sound. Add in Tasker to deal with automation and it makes the phone really easy to use.
This is the beastie:
CLICKY
I'm hoping Liquidpel will be available for this device. http://www.liquipel.com/
Basically they coat the entire phone + internals with hydrophobic material, that way even when water gets into the phone, it remains working.
I used a waterproof pouch when I was on my last cruise. Put my epic touch in it and went snorkeling for hours with it in my pocket. It was under water the whole time, no leaks. I bought it from Amazon.com.

The tight fit is a problem, to be ideal, it should be room for something like Otterbox defender or Ballistic-whatever-its-name-was. A drop in one of the pouches with bare phone is nearly as bad as a drop of the bare phone, and SIII doesn't take a lot of abuse on its own.
So looking for something with a bit more room, that still have decent opening to operate the screen.
I suspect you'll have problems finding anything that big, the S3 isn't a small handset to start with and by the time it's cased up it doubles the bulk.
Good luck :good:
If your looking for waterproof bag i have been using a type of waterproof ziplock for years. its called Aloksak. I have swam across rivers a few time and my gear in it is always dry.
Its certified waterproof to 60 metres and tested by the Navy Diving Unit.
I got mine through amazon and there are alot of sizes some even can fit a rifle. I have some that are really beat up scratches and stretch marks from sharp object and they are not even leaking.
Screen is 100% usable and its dirt cheap.
I am looking for a decent water proof case myself. I have ran across the drycase from drycase.com and have contacted them in an attempt to verify that the s3 will fit in the standard case without having to get the tablet sized one.
It does not offer drop protection however they say its rated to 100 feet (30 meters) so i should be able to take this on a 40 foot reef dive.
I really want to get rid of my camera housing as its for an old sony 5mp camera that barely works anymore.
Drycase
I just received my Drycase from Amazon. So far here are my thoughts on it with the S3. I have never owned a waterproof case like this before so perhaps some of these issues are common to cases like this. Keep in mind I have only had the case for a couple hours so these are just my initial impressions.
1. It is a little difficult to get the phone into and out of the case. It sticks to the plastic sides of the case.
2. Although the Drycase sales rep told me that the S3 would fit in the case and it does for the most part, it is hard to get it far enough into the case so that you can connect the headphone adapter and still have it be out of the way of the top black flap and closing mechanism.
3. Once the phone is in the case and the air is pumped out, the plastic sides of the case fit pretty tight to the body of the phone. This is nice as it makes the screen easy to see, however it also makes the volume and power buttons on the sides of the case difficult to press. I was trying to use the case to take underwater photos and video and because you can not use the touch screen when underwater I mapped the volume down button to the camera shutter, but it was difficult to press this button when the phone was in the case.
4. When the headphone/microphone jack inside the bag is connected to the phone any sound you record with a video will not be recorded since I assume the internal microphone is disconnected. So if you want sound with video you would need to either not plug in the internal cable or connect an external mic. Not a big deal for shooting underwater but if you are going to be moving between above and below water you may want to just leave this cable disconnected.
Anyone seen or tried this pouch?

How do you get the headphone line out of the OB pouch? The one with integrated headphone jack looks interesting. Maybe the Note-sized pouch is big enough for a S3 with a Ballistics case. Worth a try?

What do you guys think?
Here's a link to the shop on ebay: Link.
I'm looking for something a little stylish in design and came across this.
I'm trying to favor Form over the actual function of a case. I'm almost tempted to get this one, but I wanted to see what others had as an opinion on it.
This case looks very similar to the iOttie Macaron case (see here)
If it is similar to that case as in feel and fit for the phone then I will buy this case immediately. I loved my iOttie for my iPhone 5 when I had it.

I got my case in the mail over the weekend. I'll post pictures later.
Overall, it's very nice. The grip feels very good in the hand, and the case itself makes a perfect fit around the phone. The buttons aren't too tight like I've seen on other cases, but they make good enough contact that they work with every press. I'd even go as far as saying that pressing the buttons in the case feel more tactile than pressing the buttons on the phone itself.
My one complaint has to do with the rounded back. Oftentimes when I'm at restaurants or sitting at my desk, I'll set my phone on the table to use it. The rounded back makes the touch screen awkward to use as the case tends to slide the phone around a bit, or spin in place. I'd also gripe that the "iFace" logo is upside down when the phone is in proper landscape mode for camera use. No big deal though.
I got my case in the Android shade Lime-green color, but it comes in many different colors.
Also, Shipping took exactly two weeks for me, but YMMV.

It's not a whole lot to look at, but hopefully it helps. Excuse the orange paint stains on my kitchen counter. It's really bothering me in these pictures.
The back. Ample enough protection for the camera lens.
Spoiler
I really like the rounded contours along the perimeter of the phone. it feels good in the hand. It's got a soft rubbery grip. I actually nearly dropped my phone while taking one of these pictures, luckily for the grip...I managed to catch it in time.
Spoiler
The space for the MicroUSB and 3.5mm jack: Could be a bit tight for some, but works for all of my cords. My largest USB has quite a snug fit.

EDIT:WHELP, spoiler tags don't work like I assumed. Also, If you notice the ruler in the background, I was going to try and get some measurements, but a paper ruler doesnt do me very good when trying to figure out a difference between a couple milimeters. As far as thickness goes, the case doesn't even add a full milimeter. The sides are a bit of a different story, due to the rounded edges.
iFace case is strongly recommended for the Optimus G. It is very good quality with excellent grip.

iFace first class Optimus G case
I've had a number of....accidental drop tests. This is truly a great case. The rubber bump-edge really does an excellent job protecting from falls. These aren't just little baby falls either, for instance, last night, my poor little phone fell from my hand, about 5 feet onto hard brick flooring. I've yet to acquire a single scratch anywhere on my phone!

Car holder whilst using a case

I'm after a car holder for my HTC One whereby I don't have to take the phone out of the case as it's annoying and I'd like something quick and easy to use.
I've bought a few from Amazon for my HTC One X but they were rubbish, flimsy or just didn't stick to the windscreen.
So I'm after some personal experiences too, has anyone bought a car holder for their One that you don't have to take it out of the case to use and does it work well?
Somewhere I can buy it from in the UK
Something like this I bought for my HOX but it just didn't work very well. Might give it a go since it's only £2.
My friends in the UK use this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mountek-nGr...e=UTF8&qid=1372679295&sr=8-1&keywords=Mountek
I just ordered one this morning and am expecting to receive it in a week to ten days since I am in Egypt. My friends have had it for a long time now and they tell me that it's amazing and the quality is extremely durable to this day.
Some of them also use a combination of two items: this and this. The first one has a sticky pad which is very, very strong and just doesn't fade, they tell me it's as strong as the day they bought it and they use the second item sometimes, basically they attach it to the sticky pad and use it as an actual car mount.
The second suggestion isn't the most practical but it works well and is fairly cheap, however the Mountek one is just perfect; not only did I read good reviews about it and was it recommended by friends, but I also watched videos and I find it great.

I can highly recommend this one…
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/supergrip-universal-case-compatible-car-mount-p30552.htm
It will hold just about any phone in either portrait or landscape. Its suction pad even sticks to mottled, textured dashboard surfaces. Naturally it holds to glass like a limpet. Beware of the cheaper Amazon look-a-likes that have an inferior sucker.
It is very quick to attach and remove your phone, and doesn’t smother the phone’s back so the phone still gets air cooling (mine gets very hot charging and using sat nav). I think it looks ok too.
Thanks both, much appreciated. I'll check both of these out.
@wnp_79 - What's the pressure like on your car holder, in respect to it looks like it's spring loaded so I'm worried that it might put too much pressure on the sides of the phone, if that makes sense?

It is spring loaded, but does not hold the phone with any more pressure than you would use holding it yourself. The only issue I've had is with certain cases (like the Otterbox Commuter) which have protruding volume buttons. The grip is enough to accidentally activate these if you are not careful where you place the phone. With flush buttons or ensuring the grip misses them there's no issues.

Thanks, I'll add it to the possible list and I'll do some more research before pay day.
Appreciate the feedback

Yes this one works wonderfully. I thought it a little to simple at first... But simple wins here. It'll even work with future phones. You can install and remove phone one handed and of course cases work. Only bad thing is no dedicated charging... But i got over that quick.
Kenu airframe. For me it's the best.

I've been looking for the same thing. Thanks for the recommendations, I will report back once I pick one up!

Poll: Case or no case?

Hello folks,
Long-time lurker here and I post before you today with small request - help me help you help me design a better dock!
I'm currently developing a modular multi-device charging stand and the issue I need help with is devices being used with protective cases.
I would be very grateful if you guys could take this quick poll and if you feel like it, provide a little bit of detail about your dock and/or case usage.
The stand is just about ready - I'm just finalising the device dock designs, then it's the initial prototype and if all goes well I will have some
preview models out for an early review (if anyone would like to review one please PM me and I'm sure we can work something out) and I shall post a little showcase here as well.
Many thanks in advance guys and gals!
Hmmm, it seems my Forum-Fu is weak - is there a way to edit a poll? Or would a Mod be kind enough to add two more options to the list?
"Yes. I'm thinking about a dock." and "No. I'm thinking about a dock."
Thanks again!

case save my screen a lot of time
I never use a case on my phone. Hated the thought of taking a nice slim phone and making it bulky. I just never drop it, not that difficult.
Definitely a case is a must for me.I have dropped and bumped my phone 2 or 3 times and the case did the job for me.Without a case I imagine my phone would have been just a broken toy and also by the way even having a good case adds to peace of mind since it adds a little protection value.

A case is important to me. I work hard for my money and will not take a chance on breaking it. For those that "never" drop their phone, good for you. As far as "ruining" the look of my sleek phone, I couldn't care less about bulk and changing the look of it. I'm not a kid that likes to show off, I'm an older man that uses a phone as a tool, not a show toy. Besides, some cases do actually look good.
Sometimes
I usually use a case when out and about but prefer to take it off whilst at home
Here in Mexico, most phone owners use a case (i.e tpu, silicone, hard plastic) because when don't have insurance plans like you do in U.s. Thus making it cheaper to buy a case ($4 - 8) than to pay for another phone or fix it.

That's OK if you use an easy-off/on case, but some of use those 2 piece hybrids that are a pain to take off and put back on.

Most people I know here in the US don't have insurance on their phones, so having a good case is just as important here as in mexico. Plus, paying $8 a month for insurance is pretty expensive. That's almost $100 a year. No thanks. I'd rather spend $25-35 once for a good heavy duty case and have it for the life of the phone.
I use urban armor gear case. Would be interested in stand for charging multiple devices at once.

I don't one and I wont get one. Just be careful. And it looks ugly tough.
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I've decided, at the risk of fragmentation, I'm going to give buyers the option of either a cased or caseless version of a devices cradle to attach to the dock - it's already going to be tailored to meet individual device needs, I may as well go all the way and offer this too.
As a follow up question:
The stand is currently aiming to support one tablet and one phone charging and displaying on the stand with the possibility of charging 2 extra devices at the same time - one would be resting on the legs of the stand (with small extrusions on the feet to stop the device slipping - this may not be able to fit every device but currently anything ~13cm in length should be fine), and one lying on your desk underneath.
Would people be interested in the option (depending on the size of the base stand) of an additional phone dock in place of a tablet dock? (Or if you're using a larger stand the option of an additional tablet dock? Subject to feasibility of course.)
Many thanks for the replies everyone, I'll be sending the initial design to be 3D printed Monday or Tuesday!
Sometimes the phone can fall to the floor. A simple case of rubber, even pleasant, when you take the phone in hand.
I agree
wolfen69 I think if I had a case like that I would just leave it on. I want a metal case eventually! That would be awesome!
Metal case will protect your device screen when it falls down, but not sensitive sensors, i guess. I'm currently using Samsung S-View case and i am pleased with it. :good:
A case ruins the beauty of my Lumia
But its better to stay safe
Just for the record: I bought my girlfriend some rubber case for her moto g. She bought her phone since it's launch on November and we weren't able to find a case for that model here in Mexico.
She had dropped her phone a couple times without a case, and the phone back got some marks and scratches. Now she had put the case on and dropped her phone in the middle of a street without noticing. When we ran down the street searching for her phone, we found that a car had ran over it, leaving tire marks on the lime green case. To our surprise, both phone and screen were intact, thus, we think a case is the best investment you can do when buying a new phone

I usually don't use a case. It was designed the way it is and should be in the form as is. Unfortunately I use an extended battery and hacked up my original back to my GN2 so I can't even go back to the original feeling of the phone.
