[Q] Which ROM/Kernel should I install for Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi Guys,
Just a few questions..
1. What ROM can you recommend to install? Currently on Galaxy Nexus GSM 4.0.2
ICL53F.I9250XWLK2
2. Same thing as ROM..
3. What are the other things that I need to customize my Nexus?
TIA

I use 4.0.4 stock rom with popcorn kernel, here are my benchmark with this combination

hi guys, thanks for your suggestions.. Now, I just successfully installed AOKP. However, my big problem is that my camera didn't save images/videos.. I am now on the panic mode.

3.0.8-gaaa2611. that's my kernel version. I haven't install Kernel updates here. What do you mean by stock camera? <pardon for the noob question> My phone is already rooted/unlocked.

What were your instructions for rooting? (Assuming you weren't rooted before you posted this)
Your root method may have wiped everything

No, i'm using gallimaufry. I'm surprised too, I didn't expect such a high score

Check my sig to make sure you're installing the roms correctly.
Post two will detail it.
A "stock" camera is the camera that comes pre-installed. Not one from the play store.
I'm on AOKP, and can confirm no such issue.

I think my camera started malfunctioning <didn't save images/videos> when I wipe data due to I forgot my screen lock pattern <yes, I forgot! WTH>. Then, I flash AOKP b29 to see if it will solved my dilemma but it didn't. Last resort was, flash original stock ROM from Google website. Now, I am back to stock ROM.
@Jubakuba: I follow your procedure before, but when I tried to re-install Titanium Backup <free> to restore apps, it didn't succeed and prompts error which is something like code:32.

Replacement GNex loosing cell service with screen off

On Thursday, I dropped and broke my original phone. Luckily, I had a full CWM backup (CM9) created that morning. I pulled the entire /sdcard partition off the phone and onto a laptop.
When my replacement showed up yesterday from Asurion, I rooted it using the GNex tool, copied all the data back onto the new phone, then flashed the backup.'
Everything works great, almost seems a bit faster even. But now I am dropping calls and loosing service all the time. The cell radio seems to be turning off with the screen after a while, but will also seem to turn off randomly.
I just updated to the latest CM9 build attempting to fix the problem, but it didn't seem to help.

Are CM9 and IMM76I mutually exclusive?
Im on AOKP Milestone 5 based on IMM76I.. No issues at all.. Give it a try

I'm on verizon. My first 2 GNs dropped calls a lot (not like a screen off issue), but losing 4g like every 10 minutes. My 3rd nexus holds all signals steady, so you may try to ask for another replacement again.

Your flashing a radio file not a ROM, which is non dependent of the ROM you are running. You can find the official IMM76I radio file here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/12866-vzwfastboot-radiosbootloadersrecoveries-updated-may-1-2012/ which is flashable using clockwork recovery.

Can't we swtich T989 to T989D (Stock) ROM?

Hello
I use T989 in south korea.
And I heard that Telus T989D get ICS upgrade and get ICS tar.md5 burn to my T989 via Odin 1.85.
But always fail(stuck) when amss.bin download.
T989 GingerBread / T989D GingerBread / T989D ICS all STOCK ROM
(Refer the include picture)

So I change to Telus GingerBread STOCK tar.md5 to my T989 and it was failed too when amss.bin.
Finally i think that T989 device can't swap to T989D stock rom.
Can't we change STOCK ROM Swap t989 and t989d?
Just only system partition compatible?
I can try ODIN in "re-partition" function, but i CAN'T expect successful.

Awesome to hear. Let me know if you are having an issue with any compass apps. For some reason some people (myself included) can't get the compass to register correct readings. Thanks.
Going crazy here...
I've used CWM to flash both:
'Telus_SGH-T989DTLLE4_Stock_Rooted.zip' and 'SGH-...LLE4_radio.zip'
However, when I launch KIES I still get
"Your device does not support software upgrading via KIES" message.
Any ideas?
Flashing the ROM and radio provides you with the upgrade. There is no need to upgrade via Kies if you used this method.
Finally worked... kept freezing, I toggled signature to Enabled and it finally booted
Thanks!

You won't get updates from google if you are running anything that isn't stock (custom rom, kernal, anything that requires root).

just flash the kernels through your custom recovery, and your updated roms too. you dont have to fastboot them, unless you really want to. and with that custom recovery, you can make nandroid backups, backups of the whole system with all your data, just in case you mess something up.

Something I just found out last night. I've been using MIJJZ Blend Goodness rom for a while now, but I still have zip file from other roms I've tried. I flashed the wicked sensation rom extended toggle zip and it works perfect. I have done a couple of different one. So if u like a add-on zip from another rom try to flash it to a different one and tell me what works.
Just wanted to point out that you should stick with like os versions if you are attempting this. Like flash a zip from an FF18 Rom to another FF18 Rom. Mixing versions is not a good idea. It might appear to work but you will likely run into problems down the road. You could get lucky and not have problems it's but best not to risk it. If you decide to do it anyway, make sure you have a good backup first.

I agree with crawj on this. Bad idea. Unless you're using a morph universal zip like ALL my mods on the black rom (except extended toggles). Then you can flash them to nearly any TW rom. Already thought of this problem lol. So did MIJJA74.
LOL Funny you mention this... I recently found I had many zips mixed together from Goodness and Blu Kuban on my sd card. The few I got wrong just did away with my notification bar or caused systemui to FC. I guess I was not so lucky. Like mentioned before, just make sure your backed up first.

True true, Cyber is right... Even if you're just flashing a battery mod it can have bad results between platforms or tw/ aosp etc.. Before flashing anything always do a nandroid back up.. Be safe not sorry.
FYI i have tried this while back on ff18 and i bricked ma phone thus some did work great yet when an update came along for the rom after reboot it also went into reboot lock so just an fyi might work great now but as the others mentioned down the road (in my experience) i got f'd

Yeah I checked but this device is weird as you know and I wanted a bit of assistance not wise ass remarks. I'm new on this part of xda and with a flashed phone I know some roms don't work correctly. That's why I asked not to be lazy. Check my stats I do a lot of support for the one xl. And one thing I wouldn't do was post a link to a totally different device, someone with less common sense could brick with wrong info.

My bad, I read that as G2, I apologize. I was confused as to why this was posted here. If you want a ROM that works correctly go with TouchWiz. AOSP ROMs are pretty buggy on this device, especially KitKat.
What do I need to do to go from stock rooted this is a confusing device and I also still have stock recovery
Gb27 by the way

Get Mobile Odin, flash this kernel (.tar format)-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244781 in Mobile Odin and that will give you a custom recovery

If all you flash it the kernel, its safe to reboot without wiping anything. However, I would follow any and all directions given by the OP of any ROM or kernel you flash to the letter. Otherwise, you're asking for issues. This is a confusing device, and there are so many little nuances that need to be done just right to avoid problems.
If you take nothing else away from this post, remember this website www.rwilco12.com, it will save your device if you run into issues or just need anything for the device. Every ROM, kernel and modem leaked and/or released for this device by Samsung is on there and will return you to stock in a heartbeat.:good:
