[Q] One X GPS with Sports Trackers - HTC One X

I recently started using Endomondo with my One X (Im new to endomondo anyway!). On my first run i noticed some odd placement of some of the GPS markers on the route i followed. I figured it was just bad signal.
I took both my One X and Nexus one out today, One X in left trouser pocket and N1 in my Right. The N1 does still have some anomalous readings but nowhere near as many as my OneX
Does anyone else notice this with their One X using Endomondo/similar applications
P.S Yes, i know i am horrendously unfit.

Having come from the iPhone 4 (using MotionX GPS) I also downloaded Endomondo last week to give it a try. Did an 8 mile walk with the phone having a clear view of the sky. Looks okay when zoomed out, but if you zoom in to view the route then it looks like I've had 20 pints beforehand and am wavering all over the place!

Haven't had chance to try another program yet to see if it's the phone or the software.

Having similar problem with Noom. Seems to think I have travelled three times the distance, in some cases, simply because of the erratic zig zags. It actually produces reasonable results if I reduce the GPS polling frequency (setting within Noom) to 30 seconds, from the default 1 second.

Had same kind of problem with Endomondo on my HTC One X.
This is the workout with the HOX: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/48666294
And this is with my old SE Neo: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/13079346
Aprox 3,5km difference... very weird..

Has anyone tried endomondo on a different device - do they get the same results.
Out of interest, what Firmware version is your One X which gives these results?

As you can see on my post above yours, same app, same route two different devices. And a 3,5km difference in distance..
I´m using 1.26.401.2 on my HOX.

I was still using the official HTC 1.26 firmware when I tracked mine - I'll give it another go now I've upgraded to Mike1986's firmware.

Got the same gps issues using runtastic and Navigon or GMaps.
Found 8-10 satellites, but my position is jumping around.
Hope it is not a Hardwareissue like on transformer prime with tegra3.

got a htc one x last week, exactly same problem with edomo, sports tracker and sporty pal, also google maps is erectic, rang 3 who supllied phone they say its the apps that are faulty, they all work perfectly on my desire, help please as i have 7 days left to send it back. no good to me if gps is crap

Return it
I have the same GPS problem in all my GPS apps that are working fine in my old Desire.
The only solution people report in other treads is to return the phone for another copy - I tried that today in my shop - the official HTC shop in Copenhagen - only to be told that I was one day late as they have a 7 day policy, so now my phone has to go away for "repair" a number of weeks

I blocked the GPS-Services to prevent download AGPS-data, and cleared after that the AGPS-data on my phone using GPS-Status. Now is working.
..as well I disabled the HTC Auto GPS using Titanium.

Nicely done.
I ain´t got the balls to root just yet, is it possible in any way to block the agps while using Endomondo or such apps without root access?

You could try to put the phone in Plane/flying mode and then delete the Agps info with the gps status app.
Maybe that will work, because endomondo (or any other app) will not be able to update the gps info at that moment.
I must say, i have not yet tried it, so i have no idea if this realy works, but i think it should work.

Works fine to use the gps in flightmode. Sadly after a fast try indoor (near a window) the gps keeps moving around.
Will try outside tomorrow...

Well, I must say that my device is not rooted, neither unlocked and I do not have any problems with Endomondo. My workout on One X: workouts/49448880 (sorry could not post full link due to limitations for new users). As you can see everything is fine here.

This makes me laugh

Mine does the same but if I run gps essentials map mode it stays quite still and true speed reading shows no movement. Odd.

latest HTC update CRAP

Damn, sorry but i'm a little pissed right now.
I would like to ask any of you fellows if the latest offcial update had any bad effects on your device ?
I have random crashes. When i try to restart it i get the white stupid HTC screen and nothing happens for a while then it restarts again from that point.
If i let it like that it will do this for about 10-15 mins. then it will eventually start.
(Ok, i just noticed that it isnt charging anymore...and when i try to unlock the screen it will turn it off.)
(After a couple of reboots it is charging again)
ffs !!!
Footnote.
I am running a standard Desire, not rooted, very few apps, no task killer.
What to do now ?
Well, now i go to work tomorrow like an idiot and will be nice with every one of my colleagues laughin at me.
YOu know, when all your colleagues use their company iPhones and you try to prove how awesome your Android is and after a couple of weeks your phones doesnt work anymore ppl will laugh at you.
So in the end i think, millions of ppl around the world should not be wrong after all.
make a gold card and flash the full generic ROM to your phone
if that doesn't work then you need to return it
No problem here works fine if not slightly better. The problem with forums is that people generally only post problems. I've seen many other posts with people reporting no issues on stock device. Could be due to an app you have.

The point is, the phone was working properly till the update.
I updated my phone yesterday as well with the OTA update. Now my phone discharges from 100% to 93% instantly from taking it off charge. I know this is an on going problem that has been happening to people since the phones launch, but mine was fine, it never did that until today.. the first time I charged it since I did the update. Coincidence? Somehow I think not
I guess the first thing to do would be a factory reset.
I have the latest update on my Desire and everything works great, certain things are better.
I'll give it a hard reset tonight when I have the time to put all the settings back to how I want. I don't want to loose all my save data on some of my games though, like totemic.. I wont play it again if I have to some of those levels again lol
My phone has just shut down by itself and the only way I was able to start it was by pulling the battery. I have the phone for some time and it's the first time something like this has happened so it has to be because of the update. Also, right after the update some of my widgets (Messages and Wi-Fi) were gone! Battery life seems worse.
I had a few problems when i updated too. but a factory reset made everithing work like a charm. (unrooted)

Bad idea there... You're going to have issues with returning it after flashing a generic ROM...
Have any of the networks actually rolled out this update?
I agree with the battery life being A LOT worse after the update. And I did flash the whole generic Rom onto it. My battery life was amazing before the update. I think it must be something to do with the radio, as they changed it in the update. Gutted now as I can't downgrade again either.

You can flash an older radio without changing the rom, but I think it you need to root first.
My battery life is awesome on this rom. My phones been off charge for 15 hours and its at about 70% now. Any other rom I've used previously custom or stock have given me far worse results.
Interesting to see how there is such a mixed bag of results.
Hi, after I updated OTA I lost WiFi after a couple of days, not immediately... I read here that removing battery helps so I did it. The problem is gone (for now at least)
But I don't want to remove the battery every few days.

In my One V all software using compass doesn't work. Is it an hardware problem of my device or a "feature" of the model? I test it with Z-device and the compass results not available.

I confirm the same behavior too. I tried google maps and smarttools app with compass. It did nothing. Looks like HTC goofed up...
I had an official answer from HTC: Compass sensor is not inside One V
that's weird, i've tried every location app i have in my phone, including maps and i've had no problem at all? Am i just lucky or what?

The map rotates in Google Maps with the device? If so, then you got real lucky. I just read in a review today that the phone doesn't have a compass.
That I haven't checked yet, lemme try..

guys sorry to revive an old thread; but I noticed something relevant to this thread just now..
seems the one v actually has a magnetic field sensor (AK8975, which is used in other phones as well).. the Phone Tester app detects the sensor chip but can't get any data out of it.. even quadrant lists the sensor (in system info).
did anyone come across anything from HTC on why it doesn't work?
Maybe its not software enabled.
if it's just software, i guess a simple OTA update should fix this!!
wonder what's stopping HTC

I don't know what is true in this, but the 2.22.401.1 did not changed anything, and HTC officially says that the V doesn't have a compass, so I don't think that OTA will solve a thing.
(just as sidenote, I have used a Galaxy Spica at the old days and officially it doesn't had dual-touch (so as the SE-X8) but it was capable of it, and even 16M colors of the display, devs made it work, it even had an FM chip, but even the devs couldn't breath life in it, so anything can be)
compass used to work on my one v..i remember using various compass apps..now they all are showing incompatible.. after installing the latest software update i think the problem started..

[Q] GPS

Hi guys, I'm contemplating making the switch to Virgin Mobile Prepaid getting the One V (from ATT, Atrix 4G). My primary concern is GPS as I do rely on it quite a bit getting from A-Z.
Can anyone verify the One V NOT having any GPS issues? Or should I look for a different phone if GPS is an important feature for me?
if GPS is a primary concern, I say u look for a different phone.there are lot of problems with GPS,WiFi in HTC devices. u may also find threads about GPS not working,WiFi not working, here and in one s and one x forums.other than that this phone is delightful.

Thanks for the feedback! Can you be more specific as to what the issues are?
Well sometimes the GPS suddenly shows errors in location giving wrong locations sometimes(happened with me).sometimes even if u have enabled location access and GPS satellites, there will be an error getting your location update(also happened with me;recently I saw two such cases here on XDA).
These are of course my experiences other people may present different views.

Ok, thanks! I can live with the occasional error as long as it gets me back on track. I had huge issue with the Samsung Galaxy about 1 1/2 yrs ago (cant remember if it was the I or the II). It would loose GPS signal and didn't get back on track until I drove around lost for several hours. I returned it and got the Atrix 4G instead. My current Atrix 4G (MB860) will take several minutes to find a GPS signal, but once it's locked on it is rock rolid.
For me.. GPS on One V looks a little bit funny as there is no compass
Other than that, it is ok.
Use this fix for better GPS experience.

GPS SatNav Failure

I have found the first real issue with the M8.
The GPS fails during navigation and cannot get proper lock. That meant it kept trying to recalculate routes etc...
My friends have also had same issue.
Location settings were set on the best option too. Full mobile signal and internet as well.

Google navigation and TomTom both failed on different M8s.
It works for a bit, but when it goes wrong you will know about it.
I am hoping only software, but I have no idea of issues or how to fix it.
If you are rooted or unlocked, try this GPS config ... its for quick good AGPS lock before actual GPS one.

I'm not adversed to anythng BUT I have just bought a £500 plus phone. I would rather not void a warranty yet.... also some of my apps won't work on a rooted device.
I have no problem on my phone. all is ok.
GPS has been the best I've ever experienced on a smartphone. Locks quickly and accurately and the only device ever to get a decent lock inside my concrete flat.
However, yesterday the GPS failed completely whilst driving with clear view of the sky. A reboot fixed it and it was then rock solid again.
That's the only time it's done it in about a week since owning it with about 20 hours driving with it.
I'm hoping that means it's a software issue somewhere.

Yep gonna agree works perfect with copilot. Also better than sygic imo. I also wouldn't bother with Google navigation. Better to use an offline satnav app.
I have this problem too... Doesn't seem to matter which app one are using, it also happens with my golf app... And the only way to fix it, is to reboot the phone.. This is really annoying...
It seems to be related to bluetooth use... If I use BT to play music/listen to audiobook at the same time as I use the navigation app, then I have this problem.. If I turn off the BT, then the problem does not seem to appear... I am saying seem to, because it seems to be random when this occurs so not 100% sure that turning off BT fixes the problem but so far I have not had this problem when BT is off..
I also thought this was fixed in the latest update but yesterday it happend again....

[SOLVED] M9 seems slow? [UPDATE] Wifi possibly my issue??

[SOLVED]
As I mentioned a few times in this thread, I was going to get a new wifi router and try it...... Well, the new wifi router fixed the issue.
All my apps that require a data connection (FB, CL, Weather, Instagram, ect...) all work blazing fast now.
Not sure why my wife's "Apple" stuff wasn't having any issues with it, maybe because it was an Apple AirPort router?? Either way, I'm now getting 80-104mb/s down and 25mb/s up.
_______________________________
Now for my original post - below.
_______________________________
I just upgraded from the M8 to the M9........ On At&t
When I first got the M9 and booted it up (first boot), it zipped through all 180-ish of the apps in about 2 minutes and I thought "WOW, this is much faster!
Last night I unlocked, S-OFF and rooted it...Of course, it reset the stock ROM when I unlocked the bootloader, but that still only took about 2 minutes to run through all the apps....I then flashed some ROM's to try on it.. Each time they would go through their first boot, it took about 20-30 minutes (for less apps). I've since tried a few other ROMs and get the same results, it takes a good 20-30 minutes. That's about how long my M8 took. But still NO WHERE NEAR as fast as the first boot when it was stock.
After the boot, and I restore all my apps form the Play store, it seems to take an exceptional amount of time for each app to re-install too... Not download, but install. For example, it just sat on "Installing" Google Maps for over 7 minutes before I stopped the Play store....Then went to my next app, downloaded it and took 4 minutes to install a 7mb app.
Did I get a bad phone?? Or maybe have done something wrong in my root process? This is the 8th or 9th phone I've rooted and I've also rooted several tablets, so I'm not a total nOoB. Maybe a bum firmware?
{UPDATE} I'll post below too, to bump this thread.
So, after basically being couped up in the house since I've had the phone, I went out and did my normal Wednesday thing (bowling), in a different city with pretty good LTE... My phone was FLYING fast on just about everything.
When I came home and connected to my home wifi, things all got really SLOW again. I thought it might be my Firmware (latest Developers 2.8.617.4, so I flashed it agian with no change.... I then flashed the most recent International tw (2.7.xxx.x) and I get the same super slow results. It takes almost 2 minutes to connect to SpeedTest.net with the app and I have 100mb down and 20mb up internet and I'm lucky to get 10 up and 1 down.
My wife's iPhone has no issues and gets 60+mb down and 17 up.... So, something is going on with my M9 and either the way it's talking to the router or something is corrupt?
I opened the Play Store and let it sit for a good 45 seconds, and none of the icon's would load (see pic), it only usually does that when I've got really week signal.
Gonna check my works wifi tomorrow to make sure it's nothing with my wifi or router, but everything else is running smooth (Both ROKU's, X-Box, iPhone, iPad and my songs M7).
To restore apps use titanium, not only will you get the data to them but it's faster and doesn't need the internet.
As for the indexing at the start of a ROM flash, I think thats to do with the OS indexing the apps. Also I think odex vs deodex, one takes longer than the other, could be why it's taking longer to install some apps.
As for 7 minutes for an app is not right.

Not the phone. That's the nature of custom roms. It takes a lot longer in optimize apps, but they'll run faster once optimized.
Might try rebooting for the slow play store apps installing slowly.
One thing I have noticed with the m9, especially in the XDA premium app, first try at clicking on a link for the first time will take a long time to load, click back and reload it, its possible that the play store may be the same, cancel the download and restart it. 7 minutes is not right by a long shot.

Using LTE, it's lightning fast (when the signal is good). Heck, even when it's a weak signal (5mbs), it's still better than my home wifi.
I'm trying a different wifi router tonight, just to rule that out. I'll see if that renders any issues.
