(Q) Arc without screen protector - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
My factory fitted screen protector had an insane amount of scratches on it and it made my Arc look ugly so i took it off , kinda feel scared now though so Is anyone using their Arc without the factory provided/ different brand screen protector; do you have scratches on the screen and does it scratch easily, or do you recommend getting a new screen protector? I just hate all the bubbles and things it leaves on the screen because im hopeless at applying screen protectors.
I might get one of those leather cases which cover the screen when not using the phone if you guys know what I Mean, anyone tried that?

screen protector was great, can be change when you got too many wonderful scratch, but maybe it can effect touch responsive for the phone(i think),using leather case also great,it cover all,but it also make phone overheat when charging or playing games..

[Q] Are screen protectors really necessary?

When I first got my DROID2, the nice Verizon lady tried to sell me some screen protectors. It was like $10 for 5 or something like that, and the Verizon people put it on without any bubbles or anything. The only complaint I have is that the screen picture quality has gone down.
My question is, how durable is the screen without one? Is it easily scratchable? I'd sure like to take it off, but can't stand to have a scratched screen.
How often do you drop your phone?
A better question would be how often do you replace the screen protector? If the protector is still in good shape (they scratch hella easy) then take it off, the glass is 100x more durable than the protector. I had a screen protector on my Voyager, and when I removed it I promised I would never use one again... the screen just looks and feels better without it.
I have about 2 scratches on the protector. One is about a cm long and the other is about 2 inches, but they are light scratches. I have never replaced it.
Also, isn't the Voyager screen plastic, while the D2 screen is glass? Does that make a difference?

I've had my D2 for over a year without a screen protector. It has zero scratches. Gorilla Glass is awesome stuff.
^This. You can't scratch this screen with a knife. I have dropped it face down on pavement and had it skid, nothing. My girl uses a protector and to me it seems like it's more difficult to use the touch screen with.
I also had a clear gloss protector on my Voyager. When I was ordering the D2 online I took a knife to the Voyager screen and couldn't scratch it, so at the time it saved me 12 bucks.
so my deep scratch must be something else
I took a "generic" screen protector, and trimmed it to fit my inspire. I probably didn't need to, but I had the screen protectors already, and figured it couldn't hurt anything.. My phone is in my pocket all day, and who knows what I throw in that pocket!
I installed a generic one, it helped with scratches and specially with fingerprints
I am very rough on phones . Another layer of protection to absorb shock and scratching can hurt anything . I use a generic screen protector and change it when it starts looking bad .

[Q] What case would you recommend for phone with screen protector?

Hey guys,
so in the past I've found that when i use a case, especially the snap on ones, they start pinching away at my screen protector and the screen protector eventually gets **** inside and i need to remove it.
This happened on my Sgs2.
I have a screen protector for the s3 and i really want a case but i don't wanna get one that ruins screen protector or pinches against it.
Any case you guys would recommend for phone with screen protector?
Thanks!

[Q] Thinking of removing built in screen protector, NEED YOU OPINION

Hi all,
I was thinking of removing my factory built in shatter proof screen protector that every one has because mine has a fair amount of scratches on it.. I was just asking for your opinion if i should do it?
For people who have removed it:
-Is there many scratches on your phone
-was it worth it
-does it overall feel, feel better
-would i have to buy a screen protector to avoid grease all over it. (i read somewhere that oil and grease builds up fast)
Im thinking of doing it, but i would like peoples opinion on it
Im also using a xperia s
The Touch response will improve after you remove it. But if u want to avoid further scratches after the removal then attach another screen protector.
Go ahead if you want to remove it. But let me share something with you.
The pre-installed protector on one of my phone got scratched and i applied another screen guard over it. I wasn't able to notice any scratches thereafter. ( Obviously until the upper one got scratched )
But my pre-installed protector wasn't intensely scratched
On the other hand, I've removed the pre-installed protector on my Arc S ( it's been several months now ) and not even a single scratch exists on it's screen. The screen is scratch resistant.
What auni said is absolutely wise, install a new screen guard when you remove the old one . That would just add to the safety
you can remove the built in screen protector if you wan't .
I did it on mine also, it had alot of scratches on it .
I bought a new one for a few euro's and it's like new
Thanks guys, ill do it as soon as i get a screen protector

I have removed mine, which was badly scratched. It was ugly even when new: I don't understand why Sony needed to put garbage plastic on top of scratch proof glass, which is probably as good as Gorilla glass. The touch has since significantly improved. So has the look: brighter and clearer. I used scalpel just to lift the edge on top right corner of the screen and then peeled the plastic off. In my opinion, you don't need any screen protector at all: I have been using the phone for 2 months -- not a scratch...
I removed it then used windex to clean the screen because of the grease build up, and wow windex works good for preventing build up of grease

I removed my shatter-shyte protector after a few days. It's really a useless "accesorry". But the screen itself, even after cleaning, gets oily/greasy very quickly and it's a pain to clean it, just gets smodged all over, so I recommend everyone to install a quality screen protector.
I use teh Spigen Ultra Thin Crystal protector and the touch responsivness is superb and makes for a easier cleaning when it gets oily. Just wipe it with your shirt and it's done(something which didn't work with no screen protector). The Spigen is a little expensive but I've been using it for 6 months and not a scratch on it, so IMO it's worth the investment.

[Q] Who has removed the screen protector (and is glad they did)?

I'm just curious if anyone has removed it and it is better with no issues. I didn't get the extra one in the box and the one on there already has a hairline scratch that is annoying me, I've never had a screen protector on any smartphone before....
i have removed it and no the sony logo doesnt peel off like on the z, i have applied IQ screen protector and it is way better int terms of scratches and fingerprint smudges.

Thanks, I'll check into that screen protector. I was curious too if anyone has left it off (without another one) and had any issues - I've read some people saying it has no oleophobic coating so gets a lot of fingerprints. And so I read about a product called Fusso Smartphone http://www.amazon.com/Anti-fingerprint-Oleophobic-SmartPhone-TM-necessary/dp/B008HVBU9O and am thinking maybe this can be used? Or is it good by itself after removing screen protector
I would only suggest that u use a screen protector made specifically for your phone brand and model type.
Should you get a protector ? only you can decide what kind of person you are and how to treat things you purchase.
but in my instance
I took my OEM screen protector off a day earlier than when the new one was to arrive. that was a long day, constantly had to remind my self to be careful of where I put my phone. I am quite pleased with IQ s screen protector

The screen film that comes stock on the Xperia ZL (as well as the Z) is not a screen protector...it is a film (protector) to help keep the glass from shattering. I have heard and seen the video where the kid decides to remove this level of protection. Why? Because he is crazy. I purchased the Skinomi Tech Skin screen protector (wet application) and installed it right over the stock film and it works beautifully. No degradation of the HD screen quality nor sensitivity of touch. Now, I have both a screen protector on top of the film to protect the screen from shattering as originally shipped from Sony.
I am not sure of the tempered nature of the Sony screens. Definitely not Gorilla Glass 1 or 2 but, I have heard it is from an Asian company that makes similar screens to Gorilla Glass (I thing it is called Dragontrail). I guess you could argue if the screen on the ZL was of the Gorilla Glass quality or better, the point would be mute, and no screen or shatter film protection would be necessary.
Good quality screen protector is a small investment to protect such a beautiful phone.

Sorry, but you are incorrect. It is a screen protector. In Japan, it is really common practice to sell phones with factory/service installed screen protector, because it saves person from trouble of trying to apply protector without dust getting under it, also adhesive could be used for more robust installation. So when somebody scratches theirs, they just pop in the service to get protector replaced instead of replacing whole screen - it saves company & user lot of costs.
This film protects glass from shattering to extent, but no more than any screen protector does. Its pointless to install second protector on top of it, this will only reduce backlight brightness & sensitivity (even if slightly).
Whatever it is, it sucks. I've never had a screen protector before, the glass feels way better to me, and probably looks a little better. The thing that comes on here scratches so easy - all I ever do it set it down screen up or put it in my pocket with nothing else in that pocket. Not to mention the lint it attracts..
I ordered the Fusso smartphone stuff for applying an oleophobic coating, seems to have gotten mostly good reviews, when I get it i'm removing this screen protector. I'll post results when i'm done..
So I removed the screen protector, wasn't hard at all just had to use a pin to get it started. To me, the glass feels way better and looks better. I applied the Fusso smartphone for adding an oleophobic coating last night. So far so good, after being on the phone a little bit this morning I saw some fingerprints and just used my shirt to wipe them off and they came right off - I guess the oleophobic coating is working, although it didn't seem bad even before I put it on the glass. Sony should really abandon the practice of putting a screen protector on new phones ( i don't think anyone else does), maybe include it, but this feels way better to me without it.

So... Sony logo really doesn't come off with the screen protector right? Good to know.
A question: Is the screen really scratch resistant? Searched for some videos and didn't find any screen scratch test, etc. I know you're not going to scratch your screen just to test it, but, do you leave it with keys, coins...? Would be glad to know if gets scratched easily or not. And when you take off the screen protector, is there any hard to remove glue on the screen?

What do you mean by "really scratch resistant"? Do you mean scratch-proof? Because its not, and there is no such thing as scratch-proof material. If you find something harder than glass, you can scratch it. Ordinary sand is the best example.
If you carry phone in pocket with keys (or in jeans pocket with studs which could contact screen when you move it from/to pocket), I recommend using screen protector.
To remove tackiness which could be left from original one, just use some alcohol to clean it.

[Q] Screen Protector?

I scratched my screen earlier today and so removed the stock protector which thankfully was the only thing scratched, screen is still good but I was wondering how tough is the naked screen against scratches?
I was thinking of getting another screen protector but firstly I suck at putting the thing on, and secondly not sure whats the better type to go. Ebay sell tons of cheap ones just not sure if they are any good, or would naked screen be ok?
Thanks :good:
I have a what you call a 'naked' screen xD
And since then I don't have any scratches which I had first. I'm happy I've done it

Naked screen. 18+ topic.
Powered by TVR with Android 4.1.2 on the board.
Cheap screen protectors are the ones that are a bit harder to put on. If you are prone to damaging phones get a screen protector, if not you could try it without one. Look at decent ones like spigen sgp series.

Jokes aside with naked screen but I would not recommend leaving screen without protector. Sony devices do not have screen as tough as other brands and it will be prone to cracks and scratches.
What I would do is go to your local mobile retailer/service centre and ask for good screen protector for your device. They usually carry different brands from cheapie foils to heavy duty screen protectors. They will also clean your screen with appropriate agent (like isopropyl alcohol) to get rid of any grease/dust and apply your protector for a small fee.
Unless you like trashy look of your handset I strongly recommend good screen protector and rubber case or flip-out case. Ever put your keys and small change in a pocket together with your phone? I would still use my ancient handsets if not my carelessness. I only change them when I destroy them by being stupid
What do you mean with stock screen protector? I bought my Ion in ebay with some scratches on screen but the screen does not look flat on borders.. Does it have a stock screen protector? What If i peal it off and damage the screen

If there is a thin layer (you need to look closely) that you can peel off then you can peel it and apply another fresh one. Peeling it will not damage anything but leaving 'naked' screen will expose it to scratches and cracks because it not only acts as a protective layer against scratches but also applies some surface tension to the screen that makes cracking or shattering it a bit harder.
There was a review of different kinds of handset screen glass and Sony generic scratch resistant mineral glass is not as tough as other phones with toughened screens (only Xperia J and SP have patented "gorilla glass" same as in HTC, iPhone, LG, Nokia and Samsung) and only latest Xperia models got upgrade to shatter proof and scratch resistant glass from undisclosed manufacturer.
Again, I recommend to buy a good screen protector instead of just cheap thin foil that will easily be torn when rubbing against car/home keys misplaced in your pocket.

The Xperia S has a tough screen but with phones like this it's better safe than sorry, so yeah don't leave your screen naked! :good:
