Sim card junctor pin broke - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Accessories

I used a micro sim card and a adapter, broke one of the three pins while removing it, my note can't read the sim card now, will take it to Samsung service center tomorrow but I'm afraid it will cost a lot, any advice where to buy the sim junctor online just in case ?

oh dear
i read a lot of stories on the forum about this very issue when i first bought my phone, which is why i didnt use a microsim adaptor and got a replacement sim from GiffGaff instead.
from what i understand use of a microsim adaptor voids the warranty so dont admit to that.

It's not easy to replace the SIM reader by yourself. It's soldered on the mainboard.

You mean that the main board needs to be changed?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

No. The reader can be replaced but it requires a hot air rework station and some experience. The new reader can be soldered with a fine solder tip.

Thanks for the info, will go to Samsung tomorrow and see how much it will cost.

Ok, i went to samsung service center, the guy told me that it's easy to fix it, they will change the sim connector, it will take one working day for 40$.

But seriously, the note is my true love
They called me from Samsung to collect it today by the way, it's back to life.

Mine will evidentially break the same way. I can tell that if I pull my micro-sim and adapter out from my Note, that it will pull the pin. I'll now have to replace the sim when replacing the Note in the not too distant future.
It's happened to me previously with an Xperia PLAY.
Pro-tip, stay away from micro-sim adapters.

no actually you could just cut a really thin but rigid piece of plastic thats the exact width or just a very bit smaller than a sim and thats slightly longer. use that to easily slide under your sim tray then gently ease the tray out .. this will protect the pins from snagging, breaking off, or getting stressed.... or use a full size sim but you must need it or im guessing you would have done that already...
should save you from breaking... but if you do break it..i can fix it...

Major issue with SAMSUNG SIM-microSIM pin connector
Now there are dual format SIM. A slot is already there in the plastic allowing to transform your SIM into a microSIM without using any tools. Bad luck, the slot is just large enough to grap the pin of the pin connector and to break it. It happens when you remove your SIM.
The connector is very cheap but Samsung garantie is not working for that: they only replace the motherboard (cost 200€).

I know a sim cutter does not cost very much but this is just another option...
Or...
You could make it all simple, hassle & worry free for just £3.90
This also includes sim adapters that turn it back into full sim card size.
& you always own the device & adapters for future use, or friends, family use too.
Are people really that cheap to not pay a few pounds, especially when it comes with adapters too?
Hmm.

I ordered a sim cutter as well. Although confident i could do this with a pair of scissors, i'm just not that good with fiddly things and probably would end up wrecking my sim. I'm sure others won't mind getting down and dirty and cutting their sims down to size. Thanks for the template anyway.

When I commited the sin of buying an iPhone 4 for my wife (yes, I know), I also cut the sim down with a normal pair of scisors and it worked a treat. It was very easy as long as you are careful.
Most SIM cutters are fine, but there were a number of cases where people ended up breaking the edge of the chip with them. I guess it's up to you in the end, but either method should be fine with a little care.
Bugsy
Can't you just buy a Micro SIM from your carrier and port your number over to it? T-Mobile in the US offers this.

It´s a good thing we can have this for free here in Sweden!
Just call your provider ande they will ship one to you for free
Telia and 3 does this anyway. But if they didn´t I´d pay to have one shipped to me. Wouldn´t risk it by cutting it myself.

Hopefully I can just walk into a three store here in DK as I think I would end up cutting the sim in half somehow! Not very trust worthy is a pair of scissors! hehehe. If not, I will get a sim cutter from ebay for pure ease.
Thanks to the original poster though, good idea for those that are confident that no issues would arise.
I'm just giving people options if your not confident enough then buy a sim cutter or purchase a micro sim. I however will be doing this myself of course

Depends on your provider I guess. T-Mobile charged me £8.50 for a replacement SIM when my phone was stolen, so I don't doubt that they'd charge me again for a microSIM. I'm happy enough paying £2.35 for a SIM cutter and a couple of adapters.

Cut it myself. All good. Followed template PDF from web. Print, score and cut. Steady hand helps

You know there is a reason the SIM tray opening tool is shaped the way it is, right?
It is a template to cut your SIM down to microSIM size, that's what I used anyway - just make sure the chip is in the centre of the template.
I followed this how to and it worked perfectly for me. Only issue now with my One X is that I never get a 3G or H signal anymore, in places that I did with my Galaxy S. Shame but there you go. Thanks for the guide though, worked a treat
Glad it worked for you guys
just be careful if you have an older sim, mine around 15 years old and a sim cutter wouldnt do the job, half the contacts would have been cut off (this may explain why i get sim card removed then the phone rebooted on the occasion on my last phone).
so i done mine manually and it was a doodle, took around 2 mins flat and away it went.

SIM broken need motherboard replaced

So one of the pins on my SIM card slot broke. No i cant get any sinal anywhere no matter what. Looks like in teardown videos that the SIM slot is soldered to the motherboard.
Anybody know where I can get a replacement motherboard? I searched but couldn't find anything. Maybe Galaxy Nexus is still too new?
i don't know the answer to your question, sorry.
i have read only a very small number of reports on various forums regarding pin breakage in the SIM slot. would you mind posting a few details about how yours broke? i.e., do you frequently remove your SIM card to use it in another phone or was this a one-time event? if you are a SIM swapper, how often - daily, weekly, monthly?
thanks
You might be able to pick up a nexus with a shattered screen for 100 bucks and use it as a donor prolly best bet

I actually took it took a repair shop. They have a chain here in Atlanta called CPR (Cell Phone Repair) They soldered me on a new connector for $40. Pretty good deal seeing as how all the galaxy nexus on eBay that were being sold for parts were going for more than that.
I did this to my Galaxy Nexus and and Galaxy Note by trying to place my microsim with an adapter into both of these phones. CPR is located around the corner from me so I guess Im taking both over there for repair.

Will a used O2 sim card fit in the micro sim slot on the One X?

Hey guys.
I have a galaxy s2, and thinking of picking up a htc one x, purely for its awesomeness.
But i have my sim card in the s2, and im with o2, so i was wondering if the sim card will fit in the HTC One X. As i heard it has a micro sim? Has anybody with O2 had any experience with this?
Thanks
Adam
You'll need to covert it to a micro sim or phone 02 to get a replacement micro sim.
If you are a bit worried about cutting the sim, buy a sim cutter from eBay for a couple of quid.

Sim cut will work unless you have incompatible SIM A SIM that has really big contacts which look more like a globe than square. That's what I had from O2 in Ireland and it didn't work in One X.
So I went to O2 store, asked for replacement and got it after 1 minute of waiting, free of charge, already activated. They did not ask for old SIM, they simply deactivated it. Can't be any easier really
Didn't bother with a SIM cutter, just cut it myself using a template, a pair of scissors and a nail file! My O2 sim worked in my Vodafone handset (eventually!)

GSM SIM card mode for Sptint Glaxy Note II?

Is any one brave enough to perform this mode on their new SGN II?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32593285#post32593285
I believe the little metal shield near the microSD slot is Sprint SIM-chip - it in the same spot as SIM slot on other versions of SGN II and it looks similar to the one in the above Motorola phone.
There is a dual SIM adaptor for this phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952770
so theoretically it could be used to split the connection with Sprint SIM-chip and another real full size SIM
I would love to see the same thing. I was thinking about moving to the Galaxy Note 2 until I read about the embedded SIM. I hope Sprint backs away from this trend or at least someone can hack the Note to allow for SIM switching.

You will not see a real SIM card if that is what you expect yo see - It's an ASIC microchip.
the "SIM-chip" is clearly visible one of the posted pictures:
http://imageshack.us/a/img259/1346/20121030103716.jpg
It is right next to the white letters SPH-L900
And as you can see it is almost the same as in Motorola Photon phone in the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32593285#post32593285
First picture on the right (also has 880120000 on top) - just a different version
That original thread has couple videos with removal procedure, it would be exactly the same here.
Darkendvoid88, Thank you for posting pictures!!!!!
Ah, thanks for the clarification. Very daunting but at least I know it's theoretically possible. If only this was more practical!
It appears that you'd have to have the phone taken apart just to use the foreign sim card, which is impractical. Maybe it could be stuffed below or above the battery, of course assuming the little wires could fit through some crevice or crack somewhere in the back. Otherwise, this type of hack basically just makes it possible to find your favorite foreign sim card, stick it in and close the device back up.
When I traveled around Germany and the UK this summer, it was super convenient to just switch to the new sim when I needed but I don't see that this will be possible even with this type of hack. Damn!
The op just has it set up like that because the photon is sealed and has a "non removeable" back. There is little to no room for the sim reader. An extended battery back might make this easier for us. Also if anyone has ever taken apart an S2 there is a clip next to the battery terminals. Ours is the same dissassembly process and that clip could be broken off to allow for easy wire routing.

Not too be noob-ish, but this is possible, right? Because if not I just wasted $300 :/

You can't simply replace the chip with SIM card slot. You will lose Sprint LTE. To make it right you's need to solder a dual SIM adapter instead of the chip, then solder chip back in to micro SIM slot of the adapter and use the regular SIM slot for other SIM you might want to use. The software that comes with an adaptor will help you switch between chip and the SIM

No u are exactly correct that chip controls sprint lte access but the good news is a secondary sim slot can be placed directly over it without much case modification you just have to wire it up and remove the metal block from the pcb cover Case also wireless charging is definitely in play due to the pcb is wired for it a lot of hardware modification promise

I am not a fan of the Iphone, but my wife has the 4s and I was able to call sprint to have them unlock the phone so we can use it overseas with another sim card. With that being said is the Iphone the only phone that has the slot to easily take out the card and replace it with another card if traveling overseas?
I wonder if the pcb boards or internals used in the Verizon version could be swapped out for Sprint? It would be pretty interesting if a Verizon version of this phone just required a transplant of the LTE sim chip.

I own this Photon and it worked well since it's unlocked for foreign sims but it won't see an update beyond 2.3 since Motorola won't upgrade it. GN2 is the phone I want to upgrade to but this embedded sim is my biggest problem with it.

Randy, Are you saying saying there is no need to remove the chip just solder wires from it's legs to SIM slot and switch with software?
Exactly someone would have to unlock it software wise but a simple soder hack and some super glue will allow it to be used directly on top of chip with wires straight to the right connections.. The chip cannot I repeat cannot be removed it manages the sprint frequency of lte and International roaming to remove it would take away ur ability to have lte but the positive is its not that locked down from what I'm hearing its a simple mod hardware wise. also the wireless hack is super super easy I don't understand why sprint left the tech for wireless charging in and routed correctly but removed the access to them. Go figure as soon as I get a device ill do some tinkering

I have to tear it down again tomorrow when I get to the store as I screwed up the rubber grommet that goes around the headphone jack (covering the hole atm). So if you guys need any more pictures of the chip / insides I'd be happy to oblige.

Be careful with those adapters, there well known to get stuck/ or mess up sim reader. I almost messed up my note 2. I was using a nano sim adapter with my note 2, was taking it out to put in a t-mobile sim so I can unlock my phone. When I ejected the sim, I tried pulling it out and it got stuck. I panicked for a moment, I was like I'm about screwed, I'm about to have a $700 brick. Intstead of trying to pry it out, I got one of my girlfriend's hairpins and started slowly slide it out. When I was almost done, the adapter got caught again by the gold prongs of the sim reader. I just had to pull it out with force. I switched back to micro sim, the sim slot in my note 2 is fine, only issue now is when I pop the sim out, it doesn't come out all the way anymore, i have to wedge the sim out. But no issues putting sim in.

Same issue recently, but my outcome wasn't as good. Ripped out one of the sim pins and that killed my phone. Luckily ATT warrantied it. Not using adapters anymore in this phone.... this also helps me curb my phone addiction... micro-sim phone's only
Almost all adapters do that as they are not well deigned and I tried many of them for many phones over the last 2 years and I did break of the connectors also on a Samsung focus when I had one. However I purchased Noosy adapters from amazon and they are the best I have ever seen and have taken my Noosy adapter with sim in it many times from galaxy s3 to iphone 5 to note 2 with zero issues. I highly recommend Noosy and no I do not work for them but I do switch phones around and go back and forth.

i was using the noosy sim adapter and yea it got stuck got it out was working fine for a while then it finally just gave out and said no sim card or sim card error sent it to samsung waiting for it to come back they just shipped it out today ><
Noosy makes the only decent sim adapters I have seen.. they are easy to find on Amazon or eBay
oh man, I didn't even think about that happening. I am using a adapter right now. Should I try not to ever take it out than? If i do need to take it out and tips?
Adapter killed an Atrix 2 I had... it went in just fine but when I took it out it broke 2 of the gold pins... would've cost me about $150 to get it fixed and I couldn't even find the parts on the internet so I could try to fix it myself... trashed it
If you try to take the adapter out take it REALLY slow and absolutely don't force it... those little gold pins are really fragile.
