HOX - Bugs and Glitches in Hong Kong - HTC One X

Dear All,
I woke up this morning and found this news clip of the HOX in Hong Kong (it's in Cantonese). The translation as follows:
It is hailed as King of Smartphones for now but with bugs and glitches. It's gone mainstream and HTC is not looking good. So, the report states the bugs as one can see from the clip. It also states HTC will provide free replacement no matter what but at the end the report states HTC has not contacted the vendors for full replacement to the end user.

chum,
You have to ask HTC HK. Do you have the bugs as stated in the video?

I have a yellow spot and the camera glitch ups (not often, just had it happen once during this one week experience)
Do you just go to the HTC HK website and ask them whether they will honor my exchange?

E-mail HTC

Thanks for your reply. How long had you owned your HOX? You can e-mail HTC HK or give them a call to see what their response to you question will be....

I had it for about a week or two. Yeah sure, I'll give them a call when I get some free time.

i can't see the video without signing up so can u just summarize? or post some pics of it?

Okay, I sent my phone off two days ago.
I am yet to receive anything from them but they did say that they will try to reformat the entire system and relock the bootloader if you had those changed.
Anyways, it's in HTC's hands right now, so I'll update you guys as soon as I get my phone back.

Good luck...

I had both the screen yellow spotting problem AND the camera glitch ups ><

After 2 replacements from Wilson, I have a very much perfect One X, no glitches or defects at all.

I got a response from HTC HK.
They called me and told me they could replace the screen for me for free.
But if they wanted a refurbished replacement, they will charge me $1800-1900HKD because I unlocked my bootloader. But no biggie....
As the camera issue is probably a software issue, and only happened to me once, I think it shouldn't be an issue, when I get my screen replaced, I'll update it to the latest HTC based ROM. This problem replicates itself with a probability of 1/50.

Good stuff...

Chum,
That is great they will replace the screen. Hope there won't be anymore yellow spots and flickering.

Seems like it is the problem of the screen and not the camera...
Even high quality games have this problem too.

Alright guys, I got a call from HTC Service Center just now.
They fixed my unlocked bootloader HTC One X's screen with a yellow spot for free.
They said they can't update the firmware for me because I unlocked the bootloader, but if I didn't, there should be a new firmware update which addresses the screen flicker/camera flicker issue.
All is good, yellow spot screen replaced and screen flicker solved.
If you have these problems, do what I did and you'll get it fixed

TEST: Fix Flickering Screen And All Other Issues

I have an idea, that I'm willing to test. This is my first post in the Dev Section, so go easy on me if I have made any mistakes.
I'm sure many of you are aware of the issues with the One X, Flickering, Glitchy UI etc. So, I came up with a idea -
I have 2 HTC One X in my possession, one works flawlessly but has a Yellow screen (Because it is possibly made by Sharp), the other which is my first one, has flickering and every problem you can imagine.
So, If I was to get the ROM from my working Yellow screen One X, onto my first One X, is it possible that this would stop all the problems AND work on the clearer screen (possibly made by Acer)?
I'm willing to test it. But my time is running out. Both phones are due back within 3 weeks now as I've filed for a refund from Amazon. And before I do this, will it stop me from getting a refund? Regardless, the phones have issues (I guess the yellow screen is not a bug, but it is not the phone I purchased - if you get me).
So, what do I do? How do I dump my ROM, and how do I get it on my first One X?
All I know is to unlock them both on htcdev.com, but rooting and getting Clockwork/xRecovery (whatever it's name is now), I haven't got a clue. I've done it with all my other devices (around 6 or 7), but this is a different kettle of fish.
Thanks!
DM
Are you assuming the screens are made by Sharp or Acer as they are the suppliers HTC chose for the Sensation?

Yeah, it's just an assumption. It's very probable.
I don't know if it's possible to return an unlocked phone, because unlocking the phone voids some parts of the warranty. But i believe that there's a way to return the phone to it's locked state by re-locking and flashing the stock RUU, but i haven't tried it, and i don't know if it's possible to do with the one X.
You really think the phones have different ROMs? Because that's what you are suggesting, and in that case there would be different RRU's also. And also a clean RRU install would fix the flicker in that case, which I'm sure it doesn't.. And also, I think the screens are made by Samsung, but I'm not sure. The few I've tested have had the same panel ID even though one is warmer (yellower) than the other.
And lastly, you won't be able to return it if you've unlocked it though htcdev.com.. Maybe, if your lucky they don't check, you could re-lock it and hope for the best. But I guess Amazon know's what to look for. You better leave the dev'ing to the devs.

Your right. Not unless the FW is stored on a server and somehow is locked to you when you download the FW for reinstall. I'll give this a shot. I'm back on Ubuntu now, so I'm not 100% sure how to update my HTC using it... I'll look.

Check the software version number, if it's the same then there is no benefit to "copying" the rom from one to the other.

I just thought it might be worth a shot. No one seems to have an answer as to why the screen flickers. I'm just trying to narrow what could be wrong down by doing tests.

The answer is most probably faulty hardware, I've tried loads of roms not one fixes the flicker, mine gets replaced Monday.

It's surely not software. Maybe if the nand is broken and your screen drivers just happens to be at the bad blocks every time (and don't get remapped) No, don't waste your time and possibly money on this, it's most likely faulty hardware anyway. You could "adb pull /proc/last_dmsg last_dmsg" then open that file in a text editor and check if the both phones hade the same panel ID. If not, then it could be driver-related. Or maybe it's as simple as a loose connection.
I am pretty sure the flicker is software and not hardware. I get it, it normally starts ( but is not limited to ) when on the home screen. If you are experiencing flicker navigate somewhere with the option to bring up a menu. When I bring up a menu over the flickering screen the menu is solid and does not flicker while the activity underneath is still distorted.
I have tried killing sense to let it restart and that normally gets rid of the flicker.
(I call it flicker but it is really more like the image on the screen warps from the bottom but stays still at the top in a fluctuating way.)

HOX Screen problems, help !!! (video/photos attached)

Hi !!
I have a huge problem with my HOX. I've had this for a while and tried two factory resets and I just dont know what to do anymore. I contacted HTC but they said the problem was probably due to an app that I installed. I dont agree so I used the phone today after a factory reset and no installed apps and after a while I got the same problems. Here is a video that sums it all up...........
http://youtu.be/RoypOXbgWBI
Does anyone have a clue to whats wrong and is there a solution for it ???? I will contact HTC again and I want them to check out the phone because I just cannot use it anymore. Oh, and is anyone else having these problems and were they solved ???
Thanks !!

Thank you for your reply. I have just seen at least 6 videos on youtube with the same problem and what I can tell from the comments........there are a lot of people with this problem. I've already send HTC an email and hopefully they are going to acknowledge the problem and replace my phone (fat chance, right ???).
Oh, and I am from The Netherlands so I dont think sending my phone to the USA is a good idea.........but thanks for the suggestion
If you haven't rooted your phone, send it in for warranty...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Have you rooted your hox ? If you have could be a bad app like htc say, what i would do is make a backup of your current rom dl a rom (viperjb) do a full system wipe flash the zip file then go into fastboot flash the boot.img & dont forget to fastboot erase cache. Then without installing apps see if the problem is still there if it isnt install your apps one by one test again if its there before installing any apps it is proberly a hardware fault so either send it back to your provider or htc. Hope this helps in some way.

Restore your HOX to the stock rom and relock the thing (lots of guides out there) and then contact HTC about your problem if it still exists. I've had good experiences with HTC warranty in the Netherlands (and yes, i was unlocked too). And with good I mean that they weren't whining about it being unlocked, their actual service was very bad..

HTC Replaced Rooted My One X

I recently had the BSoD on my One x (rooted and flashed with custom rom) I could not boot into bootloader, see the screen when turned on etc due to a constant black screen.
I decided, what the hell, lets try for a repair at HTC, the worst that would happen is they would charge me for the repairs.
Well... To cut a long story short (after waiting 3 1/2 weeks for my phone to come back).... HTC sent me a HTC One!
Just wondering if anyone else has had this instance or if it was an error on HTC's behalf?
Thanks for reading!

Nothing really, Just general day to day usage of the phone, maybe an hour of gaming, social networking, Gmails etc.. Stated getting graphical glitches about a week before the phone's screen went completely off, but never thought anything of it.
They probably couldn't fix it and were out of One X's so they just sent what they had.
Or maybe it was just a mistake ( someone forgot to add the "X" on some paper )

Camera purple/blue/red tint problem

Hello all,
This problem occurs when taking pictures when there is less light. From what I have read the only way to fix this is to send the phone to HTC for a hardware repair. However, I had bought this phone second-hand from someone online. How could I use the warranty now? Please advise.

They should since it would be within the one year. I don't think selling a phone breaks the warranty. If you get on a chat with them they'll ask you for your info and worst case scenario is they tell you no.

Yes, I bought mine off of Craigslist. They didn't even ask me if I was the original owner. It is under warranty and they fixed my camera issue without any problems. Took almost exactly 2 weeks to get the phone back from the day I sent it.

I'll leave it at that for now. I raged at their chat for about 30 minutes before I got offered 2 more options.
I had HTC repair my camera and not only did they expedite shipping (standard overnight) the camera looks great now when taking pics, The phone looks perfect just like I sent it in. Looks brand new. The actually changed the motherboard and put a new sticker with all the new info on it.
I called them, ask if they could do something more than standard ground and had a prepaid label in my email about an hour later. I brought the phone to fedex saturday morning, it shipped to htc by monday morning 9:30am and was showing in repair at 11am then an email around 5pm that it was done and setup for fedex pickup. Received it at 230pm today.
I think their service and repair was outstanding.
I've been waiting to send my M7 in for this camera issue but now that I've picked up the M8 I was thinking about just selling it as is. It's rooted unlocked with s off.
So I did some Googling in order to get an answer as to whether I can send my phone in for this fix without getting it back unrooted/S-On.
From what I've read it seems to be hit or miss.
Anyone reading this sent one in that was S-Off, only to have it come back stock/S-On?

If you send it S-OFF, technically you are breaking the warranty. And that would REALLY suck for you, cause you would be without a phone for about 2 weeks and it would come back in the same condition, AND you wouldn't be able to fix it anymore afterwards. So you kinda gave birth to 3 birds with one womb.
I S-ON'ed mine when I sent it in, and luckily since this was within a week or 2 of 4.4.2 coming out, they only flashed 4.2.2 (I think. This was like 8 months ago. Whichever version is currently rootable). I would suspect that now, your phone would come with 4.4.2 + Sense 6.0, which is not rootable.
I'm considering flashing a stock rom, then doing a faux h-boot that indicates s-on and removes the unlock/development red text from the startup image.
I just worry that they might have a flash stock rom/recovery step that they do regardless of what is on the phones that get which would lock me up with an unrooted phone once I got it back.

[Q] Primary Camera flash greenish tint problem

Hey,
I just purchased a HTC Desire 820 dual sim about 3 days back, and on clicking pictures with flash on from the primary 13MP camera, an evident greenish tint is noticed.
Is anyone else having the same problem, or should I opt for replacement? Is it a hardware or software problem?
Attaching samples.
Please help ASAP. Thanks!
same problem here with me
I have exactly the same problem, however i requested the new replacement model from the retail online site. It's a software glitch, because playing with the setting like using florescent option it solves, so it is complete software issue, but in a replacement warranty scenario i am asking for the replacement, lets c what happens next..

Same greenish tint issue
Guys,
This might sound funny to you that i first purchased this device on 25th Jan 2015 and there were no greenish tint issues in that phone but it was automatically rebooting itself when i tried to click pics with the FLASH ON. This didn't happen when I purchased the device, happened at a later stage (after a day). So I went up to HTC and asked for the repair of the device (I knew i'll get the DOA bcoz it was a faulty piece) and I got the DOA after they tested it.
Got the replacement and I'm seeing this issue on my phone. Searched around the forum to find out that I'm not the only one facing this issue.
I first thought that it would be a hardware issue but its not guys, its a software issue. Change the settings to "Flourescent" and the greenish tint disappears, though you'll see a light blue effect on it.
Lets just hope HTC releases an update for this.

Not software, hardware. It was there on my unit even before the software update. It's there only on a specific batch I guess. I returned it. Can't tolerate the faulty piece.

So, is it working fine? What was the color of your phone which had the greenish tint? Mine is grey.

Okay, As I suspected that it would be a SOFTWARE ISSUE and NOT a hardware issue was TRUE.
Today I went to the HTC Repair Center and opted for the issue to get fixed. One of its representatives pointed it to be software issue.
They took my phone and FIXED it and now the camera works perfectly fine with FLASH ON.
Hope this helps other guys out there.
