There are a number of ways to get this to work. Search the threads this is a common question. Without knowing which ICS leak you used it's hard to say. Best bet would be to use sfhub's autoroot package>Extra Options and USB storage can be enabled there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 Or you can check out this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514665&highlight=usb+mtp

If you use Option E in the Auto Root package, you can switch between MTP and USB Mass Storage modes.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
If you look in the reference section of the FD16 OneClick thread, you can also find a more detailed post that includes a link to an app to change between the two modes.

Thanks...^^^ does anyone recall which was the last leaked build that had both mtp and mass storage support?

They all have both. They just removed the UI to enable USB Mass Storage mode in the settings menu on the more recent builds. The default has always been MTP, even on GB. However on GB if you enable USB Debugging, it turns off MTP and enables USB Mass Storage. It doesn't do that on ICS.
Look through the FAQs on the ODIN OneClick threads for the most recent ICS ROMs. From the first release they removed the UI, there is an FAQ entry to turn on USB Mass Storage. Prior to that release, there was no FAQ entry and the UI was still builtin.
I think it was one of the last FC releases or one of the earlier FD releases where the UI went away.

ICS FAQ

I've seen many people asking the same questions over and over again, so thought I would make a FAQ (and continually update it) so people can just post here, instead of cluttering all the leak threads! Please let me know if there are other things to add!
Please note I take ZERO credit for all this, just copying/pasting from what others have said on this. This is due to all the hard work of the other XDA'ers here! I am just trying to consolidate it into one thread. If someone has already done this (and I didn't see it), please delete this thread! I have also tried to give credit to the peolpe from where I found this from. If that is incorrect, please let me know and I'll change it!
This isn't very much right now, but I'm hoping to make a 1 stop shop for everyone. Please let me know what else I need to add in general!
USB STORAGE ICS
What happened to USB Storage in ICS, how do I get the old GB behavior back?
You may have noticed that ICS ROMs by default will configure the USB port for MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode. MTP mode may be more convenient for some people as it can coexist with USB debugging better, but the transfers are much slower and if you don't have the OS driver support (Mac/Linux) the USB drives may not show up.
Most people prefer to have the behavior from GB ROMs where you could drag the notification bar, click on the USB symbol, and manually enable USB Mass Storage mode.
With earlier versions of ICS, you could do this less conveniently using the menu->settings->more->USB Utilities configuration page.
Starting with ICS release FC22, the USB Utilities configuration page is no longer present. This presents the user with a problem as they cannot enable USB Mass Storage using the UI.
The Auto Root package has a solution for you. Under "Extra Options" of the main menu, there are 2 choices that affect ICS mass storage:
1) Enable ICS USB Mass Storage Mode
2) Enable ICS USB MTP Mode
These are mutually exclusive options. If you enable one, you disable the other.
To get GB USB Mass Storage behavior, choose the first option (USB Mass Storage Mode). This option once chosen, will be persistent through reboots and is stored in your Android User Data. It will only get reset if you reset your Android User Data or manually choose a different mode.

Wifi Tether on ICS
Just wanted to let you guys know that if you want to wireless tether with any ICS rom just install wireless tether beta 11. Go into settings and change device profile to "Samsung Galaxy Nexus CDMA" and voila you have infrastructure tether with 4g!
I would attach the apk but I can't seem to do it from my Prime so here is the link!

Sprint TV
How to install -
1. backup your current Sprint TV App
2. Uninstall current Sprint TV and install with attached
(or just replace /data/app/com.mobitv.client.sprinttvng-1.apk with attached apk)
permission 644.
--attached is Sprint TV apk.

Notification Bug
Gone since FD24.
Want to go back to GB?
Use Sfhub's one-click Odin EL29, then install the recovery again. It's going to be the safest way. Then you can restore a nanodroid if you want to from there!
Install a recovery on ICS
Use the autorooter tool again, and you can use the older leaks version-ie-FB17, etc. Just install the recovery, that's all you need!

1.Bring up Settings.
2.Click More… (under Wireless and network).........I dont have this option at all on my device
3.Then select USB utilities ~ Set USB cable connection mode.
4.Select Connect storage to PC then.
5.Connect USB cable from phone to PC.
6.Select Turn on USB storage.
7.That’s all.
i do understand this process but its not a option for me at all i am so stuck
Try sfhubs autoroot package, though personally I like MTP mode, I can still move and copy files to/from the phone.

None of them work for me either. I need it built into the phone without this pain in the butt to enable. I just ordered 990 S2's that I assume will have 4.0.4 installed like the 4 samples I have here; I have told Samsung that I will need to cancel my order if it is not an option on the device as it is required for my use. Granted, this is only about a thousand phones so it may not be enough for Samsung to care, but we shall see.
You have to reinstall the USB drivers to make it work.

That's only because the transfer is being made over MTP; it would not exist if the storage was presented as mass storage. The user should be able to change the way the device shows up; between MTP and mass storage. I am not going to spend the payroll to install drivers on a thousand laptops, and a regular user shouldn't have to either. I understand that sometimes phones have problems with media scanning, but that should be a user settable option and the user can make a decision.

How to disable MTP?

I know there must be multiple posts on this, but after an hour, I'm striking out. I found a .ZIP for a GSII, but that did not work.
Any ideas?

Sorry new to this. But would this have any negative effects if I used the above app to change to usb mass to download music from my computer? Mtp is slow and media monkey scans the whole phone before it syncs. Could I just keep it set to usb or would something not work after that?

HELP! Turn off storage: Galaxy Amp
I don't know if this is the right thread to put this but anyway...
I have a Samsung Galaxy Amp, a much cheaper, much watered-down version of the Galaxy Series, and I have been trying to enable default installation of apps to the external sd card. However, adb devices won't recognize my device because (I think) MTP storage is on.
I Have USB debugging on and the the device works fine over USB. However there is no way to disable storage from the phone's settings. It will automatically enter MTP storage on connection and I can't unmount it from the PC.
To be clear I want to disable ALL storage on the phone, not enable mass storage
Much of the menu options, style, setup, etc are similar to the s3. Any help would be appreciated.
*Also MTP is my best guess of why adb devices won't detect it, if it's something else insight on that will be much appreciated as well, thanks.

Sounds more like a driver issue to me. Click on "Drivers" in my sig and download and install the latest drivers. Then go to device manager, find where it shows your device, right click it and Update Drivers.
If that doesnt work, you can also try the UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi. Though after installing this, you may have reinstall the Samsung drivers again later in order to use MTP/UMS or Odin.
Normal operation for me, I can connect using ADB and still have access to the phones storage at the same time.
Thanks!

[Q] Don't see my HOX as external drive after installing JB Rom

Sorry if this was answered before, I couldn't find an appropriate thread for that.
So I installed latest OrDroid 2.7.5, everything went smoothly and works fine for now.
But I have issues trying to connect the phone to my PC and access internal storage.
Once I connect the USB cable I get the usual "USB Connected - Tap to change settings". Once I press it I get the "Portable hotspot & tethering" instead of the window where I choose charge/USB only.
In My Computer it appears as Digital Camera "HTC One X", but not as Removable drive as it was before.
Any ideas how to access the storage again?
Thanks in advance
This is not specific for ordroid but
Check under

Storage
Usb computer connection ( in three dotmenu or context menu)
It should be mtp or mass storage.

Another option - go to Recovery and connect your phone to PC. This way it appears in My Computer as HTC Storage. Not the most convenient method, but still better than nothing.
any one know of any fix for this yet? i'm on mac and cannot mount sd card other than going into recovery. pain in the ass, every time i plug it in to my dock htc sync link pops up, tried installing it it but it's ****e, still doesnt allow direct access to sd.
If its not installed it pops up as a link, if it is installed it pops up the app. pain if i only want charge.
Really annoys me when they remove common used features.
Someone at HTC must have sat and had a thought, yes they have 32gb non removable sd card but it's highly unlikely they ever want access to it, lets take the option away.
There's no 'fix' as HTC has changed the storage from USB MS for MTP - unless they change it back there's not a lot you can do
EDIT: This might help...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1355913
Thanks, may have to revert to ics then, this is a big flaw for me, do a lot of transferring files to and from sd, cant be ****ed with entering recovery everytime.

Some linux distros support MTP. Ubuntu, for example, although it hasn't been officially backported to some older releases. But it is available for older releases in a developer's third-party ppa. Unfortunately, I can't post the link. Still, I prefer USB mass storage to MTP. But I'm going to try MTP for awhile and see if it grows on me.
I noticed that there are a number of apps that come up in the Android Market / Google Play Apps if you search for "USB mass storage", but I haven't tried any of them. There are also third-party apps that provide file sharing via wifi using samba or ftp. Not exactly what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it. ES File Explorer is an example. I use it, and like it, but I haven't used the particular features I just mentioned because, until my recent upgrade to JB 4.2 I didn't need them -- I used USB mass storage.
In a thread on AndroidCentral, someone said google does not want to use USB mass storage. I don't know if that's true, and if it is true, I don't know what google's reasons are for abandoning USB mass storage.

I tried a couple of these and they did not work reliably. I have a large git repo that I was trying to clone, and it would either silently fail mid-way (using Samba Filesharing for Android by funkyFresh), or git would complain about corrupt/missing objects (using Servers Ultimate by Ice Cold Apps). The latter also has an NFS server, but I wasn't able to connect to it. I kept getting a clnt_create Program not registered error. All of the problems here with both the samba servers and NFS could be specific to my hardware and software environment, and/or configuration settings. YMMV.

That's a good idea. I sorta tried that, and it didn't work for me, but it obviously has worked for other people. I put CM10.1.2 on my phone a few days ago. Until today, whenever I plugged it into my computer it would go into mass storage mode as expected and everything was fine. Then, I installed Button Savior, which required me to enable USB debugging mode, and after that it connected in MTP mode every time. If I tapped the notification it would give me an option to uncheck MTP mode, but tapping that any number of times had no effect (the checkmark wouldn't go away). I tried the solution suggested in the linked thread, but now it's even worse. It no longer connects in MTP mode, but it doesn't connect in mass storage mode either. Now, it connects in something called "installer mode" with no option to change anything. It shows up in Explorer on my computer, but when I try to open the drive the computer asks me to insert a drive.
Any idea how I get my mass storage mode back?
