question on video recording - HTC One X

Soooo my friend has the droid razor and we recently went to a EDM show where we were pretty close to the stage. His razor has a setting in the video menu that was "concert"... it seemed to have helped out on the recorded sound not being some muffled. Can anyone tell me if this phone has settings like that for video recording, would be greatly appreciated!

whoa, so the sound of loud music is bad on this phone in videos? i went to WMC Miami a few years ago and took all of these videos with the phone i had at the time, then when i got home i found out how bad the sound was and couldn't keep them. i was going to test mine when it came with my basement setup, but if you say it's bad then i can't bother with getting it.
EDIT: it doesn't matter. i will find out myself. i need something to use until something better comes out, so if i don't like it then i will sell it to someone on here in the marketplace.

Haha no I'm simply asking if someone can tell me if this phone has that "concert" style video setting. My Vivid takes amazing sounding videos at live shows, but this setting on the razor seemed to help. So I'm just wondering if the One might have a setting like this??

i found another thread about the video sound quality and everyone in it says all HTC phones have terrible video sound and there are never any fixes or options for it. i checked ocean/wind video on youtube and it makes a lot of scratchy sounds when the wind blows in the mic. it's June until the next phone i would want is out, so i'm jumping on this because i sold my GS II a month ago. i would look for something else or get a separate camera for videos of music if i were you and you don't want to lose money reselling it.

See my Vivid has taken some amazing videos with great sound in some venues... Some times not so much

It's probably the noise cancellation mic that is screwing your audio in noisy environments. No way to turn it off though /:

Try using a app like LGcamera, that seemed to help me a LITTLE when I went to see Rammstein

That's a shame if they didn't put any kind of settings or "scenes" for video recording.
This is a video taken on the razor and the speakers literally 15ft from me

[Q] Recording video in loud environments?

Hey all!
I'm very curious about how this phone handles loud environments when recording video. Anyone knows?
On the SGS2 it doesn't take too much to get the sound all distorted. The iPhone handles this very well and my old N95 also could handle really loud environments without sound distortion but I have yet to find a high-end Android phone that can handle this in a satisfying way.
Glad if anyone could shed some light on this. Sample videos would be great!
Anyone with some insight on this? Or would be kind enough to try it out? Please..?
I have the phone but not been to any shows lately. Will give it a go at some point.
Does it only happen at concerts etc. where the sound is more diverse or is recording loud music from your own speakers causing the same issue?
Defining a test or at lest the loud environment in mind might make people more likely to try it.
Well, since it's Saturday it would be nice with a test at a night club with some loud music for a good start!
Testing it at a concert would be even better but I know those don't come around as often.
Not a concert, but a busy street on a very windy day:
I love the my GN but video recording is TERRIBLE with loud noises. I have good sound system in my car with a 2000 watt sub and I recorded to see wat the audio recording quality was like and is awful. All noises are distorted really bad !
May have something to do with the fact that even though it records in 1080p and has two mics .. it only records in mono !
:-(
I'm going to a J.Cole concert on Monday I'll post a video from the gig to show u how bad it is.

I would really like to see a video from that gig you're going to, to see for myself. Thanks!
No problem , I'll post a video Tuesday morning for you

Nice to see another Cole fan on XDA
I recorded a Cole concert back in August on my HTC Incredible S and the sound was so distorted with all the bass. You could barely make out anything other than bass in 95% of my recordings

Hope you enjoy the show, one of the best ones I've been to. Cole fans are some of the craziest I've ever seen from looking at all the Youtube videos.
I can't wait till you put up some of your recordings, I hope it's not bass filled. I was in the 3rd/4th row from the stage so I think that might have been why my recordings had the bass ruining the video because I was so close to the speakers...
Seen him loads of times before bloody love him
Imma be at the front again so it should b a good video. I've just taken this short crazy video, just to show how bad recording loud stuff is on this fone is.
Sorry such a crap video tho

Thanks for your video samples! Although I was hoping for better results... But now I know at least that Samsung hasn't improved that part from the SGS2.. too bad.
So no fix for Nexus also? I was gonna sell my SGS2 to Nexus because I thought it will record good in louder environments. How the hell did Apple managed to pull this of on 4 and 4s?

I took this in what I would consider to be a loud environment and mine did fine:
I cannot post links because I'm still a new user but search on YouTube "Medina Bagpipe Band"

[Q] Has anyone taken a video at a concert or bar show?

How is the sound quality on playback? I have an Iphone 4S and am debating selling for an HTC One x or Samsung Galaxy III.
I'd love to know how it performs in this situation! Thanks!
My mother was on vacation and took my One X for a week, she recorded some kind of backyard party barbecue or whatever it was at our relatives and I heard everyone talking crystal clear in the video.
I won't be posting these videos for obvious reason but just throwing my experience with the video recorder out there, I'm not sure how it performs against the sound recording ability of the iPhone or SIII though.
I've recorded video rite infront of speakers at a very loud outside party. Only problem is find is audio dropping loud to quiet. But I think that's due to it being to loud for the phone and it was trying to compensate. Search YouTube for emoguyexe and you should find the video. There are 2 of them. From the Dimond jubilee

Oh ok thanks.
I checked them out and see what you mean.
I found a few other videos and playback doesn't sound very good. At least not compared to my Iphone.

Thats me singing at a pub the volume does pick up load and quite, but i have to say u gotta expect it when your sitting in the front of large speakers
I think its all about set up, i got another nite tomorrow and im going to get my mate to go a few rows back and i will send you the link for the video and you can make a judgement.
NOTHING, is meant to be recorded dead in front of speakers thats the problem i reckon.

Sorry, from what I've seen so far, the 4S is far better.
I've taken videos at punk shows in small bars and it picks everything up amazingly.
I'll be switching phones soon and I am debating between the One X and the new samsung III. Iphone keeps breaking!

Speaker hype

So I have heard lots of great things about the speakers on this phone and I'm trying to decide if it's a lot of hype or if I got a phone with bad speakers. I have had the phone for 10 days now and while the clarity is good I'm not impressed with how loud the speakers are. Example is 4 of us were standing around a table watching you tube video yesterday and I wanted some more volume but it was all the way up. We could all hear ok but it wasn't overly loud. Another example is I turned on music player and cranked it all the way up and took a shower, phone was about 3 feet from the shower and I could barely hear the music. So I'm looking for your opinion did I get sub par speakers or am I expecting to much from these speakers?

I have not had a chance to compare it to another HTC one,but I just compared it to my old droid incredible 2 and the incredible 2 is every bit as loud if not louder. The one sounds a little better but like I said it is no louder than the old incredible 2. Hoping someone that used to have a incredible 2 can let me know what they think also.

I just compared my old dinc2 with my One, playing the same songs on each phone separately and at the same time, and the One was a little louder than the dinc2. Not by much, but definitely louder. However, the audio quality of the One is much, much better. Though I will happily listen to audio on my One while working, I never did that with the dinc2 given its speaker audio quality. As far as max volume is concerned, mine is plenty loud and I don't need it to be any louder.
Maybe stop by a Verizon store and compare the volume of yours with the display phone.
Mine isn't that much louder than my wife's iPhone either.

I stopped by Verizon today and did just that. I loaded a pearl jam song on both phones on youtube and they sounded the same. But I do agree with you that the sound quality on the one is far superior to the incredible 2, I just wish it was a little louder.

And this is the kind of thing I had heard about the phones speakers before I got it to lead me to believe that the speakers are even better than they are. You must have some better acoustics in your shower than I do. Over all I am happy with the speakers so I wont complain to much.
I've basically found that while this phone isn't all that much louder than other devices I've had. I came from the S4 and that was pretty loud.
However, the One has infinitely better clarity when it comes to the audio. I'll take that. Now if by some crazy magic they can figure out bass, but given the space available I'm sure that will never happen.
I have and have had a lot of android devices. Some of which (Galaxy Nexus) the speaker volume was so low that is required many tweaks via the kernel and third party apps to make it even reasonable. I agree with you that there is a lot of hype in the "boom sound" of the HTC One. Personally, I don't find the volume to be extremely loud but I do find the quality of the sound to be better than any of my other devices. The thin devices we all love jam so much into their size that the speakers often suffer. If you prefer loudness over the quality of the sound there are third party apps you could try. For me the sound is plenty loud and sounds great.
Loudest phone i've ever had. Some things don't seem like they're are that much louder, if noticeable than other phones, but obviously you have the clarity. Youtube may not be the best test as the audio isn't always the greatest. One thing i can note is when volume is maxxed, the notifications are ridiculously loud.
Seems pretty loud to me. I use it to listen to music while I shower and the fan is on. Still hear it fine. I'll be damned if another phone could match that performance.
Seems to be hit and miss with people. I think some had unrealistic expectations. Honestly for me they are perfect. You have to realize in any noisy environment nothing will hold up short of a real larger speaker. These things are outstanding when compared to any other phone.
With beats enabled the volume seems a bit quieter but the quality is much better out of the speakers. If you need a little louder try turning off beats.
?
So which phone would everyone say is the loudest?
If I remember my specs correctly, since there are two speakers, the One can do stereo audio.
My droid DNA was louder than the One but you had to have the phone on a flat surface as a reflector.

Rate your HTC 10 speakers

Hey XDAers!
I'm considering buying the HTC 10 after my amazing experience with the One M7.
Just wondering how the built-in speakers on the 10 match up to other flagships and previous HTCs. I heard the M9's speakers were really loud and better than the M8's, which were in turn louder and better than the M7's. My current feelings on the 10, from reading reviews, is that they're great quality but not that loud, and not great for watching videos in landscape mode.
Whoever's had old Ones and/or recent flagships and can comment on the loudness and quality of the 10's built-in speakers, please share your thoughts! I'd love to be able to start playing good quality, loud music while cooking, showering, or at gatherings with friends.
Edit: Mods; maybe this should be in Guides, News, and Discussion instead?
While I do think the speakers sound good, they are not loud enough, they are around same level as my s7 edge but lower than my G5.
I has the M7, M8 and now the 10. I think they're just fine. Great sounding, loud enough. Is it the loudest? No. But will you get damn good quality from these speakers given the right media? You bet you will.
Agreed they're not loud, the quality is very good though

Awesome speakers and are clearer than my M8. HTC focused more on clarity it appears.
In terms of loudness? Someone had tools to test and made a video showing the 10 having slightly louder speakers.
I guess many think the opposite because of how big htc made their speakers look on their M series but if you were to open them, the speakers are actually less than half of the actual grill.

Quality is very good, but what is missing is the real stereo sound from M7-M9. M10 still sounds good, better than S7. Its just not the same than before, especially if your watching a video in landscape, where stereo really mattered.
But still, its miles better than G5 and S7, cause the sound is coming right at you, not from the bottom in the direction of your hand (like S7).
In the shower, I could clearly hear music from my 6P playing. With the 10, that is no longer the case - sounds like any past phone in terms of volume. It is definitely a little higher quality than any other phone I've had though, but not bounds and leagues ahead to make it a worthwhile sacrifice for volume. So if loudness is what you're after, you will be disappointed.
Thanks guys; it's incredibly useful having a wide variety of opinions.

This disappoints me. The 6P looks great but is too big for me and stock Android is not as customisable as I'd like; otherwise I probably would've already bought it.
Maybe there's a way to increase loudness without losing too much clarity/quality? I've heard V4A can increase volume by up to 50%.
The sound quality is good, but it is not louder that HTC M8, when you hear music you can hear in both speakers, same if you are choosing a ringtone, but when you hear the phone ringing IS VERY BAD, it sounds muffled and low because the ring only sound in the lower speaker
Does somebody try to root and place viper4Afor fix this?
I have the same issue when the phone is ringing. It just doesn't sound right.
I wrote to HTC customer online ( chat) they told me that it could be a bug, may should be included in the future updates. You can to write to chat or HTC technical support so they could see several people with the same thing and fix it a little bit more quick. If somebody can help us---- welcome
So my phone isn't faulty. I thought my phone has some kind of issue for what it sounds to tiny in landscape position. My last G4 with back speaker sounded so loud and definitely not bad than Htc 10. Somebody should find some way to louden the output.

Missing one of my favorite features of the V20 video camera

Just realized the the V30 does not have the microphone directionality adjustment {front or rear focus}.
I'm a loud breather, I used this often. I have to stick wind filters up my nostrils I guess...
Ha ha ha! Yeah, no idea why it's missing but I'm still playing around with the audio during video. Shot a little bit last night and will get a few more chances this week to tweak things Monday and Tuesday for practice. Then the big thing will be trying to shoot in a really loud concert on Wednesday when Tash Sultana plays to a sold out room. I'm kinda hoping I've got it all figured out by then. What I shot last night sounded pretty decent, about how it sounds when I shot with the V20 directed forward. Even with it, I'd pick up a lot of crowd noise around me. No avoiding that and let's face it, it's a cellphone. In reality, I'd probably stick a dedicated recorder up close to the band and mix that sound back into the video footage in post if I were really worried about having the best audio.

A) Dang you're a lucky so-so that you got to see that show. It was sold out here in KC and the scalpers weren't cutting their usual deals.
B) The audio turned out really well for being down on the floor.

Will be interesting to hear how your concert recording goes. V30 is supposed to have some neat tricks with turning the ear speaker into a mic for high decibels. I've got a local show at a small bar/club to test a recording with. Cant wait to try it. I've also got an app called field recorder which is supposed to also utilize features of the phone for recording sound. Hopefully it will work well.

There's already an app on the V series called HD Audio Recorder. You can either use the preset or set your own sliders. It works out pretty well on the V20. I can't imagine it is any different on the V30.
