Kinda confused ... - Nokia Lumia 900

So I was looking into buying a no contract Lumia 900, but found out that AT&T and Rogers (Canada) only sold them with contracts. Does anyone know where I can get one off contract? Been trying some over-seas e-shops, but unfortunately, no luck. Am I missing something here?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I see them on eBay regularly

I thought AT&T had a no contract price of around $450. They won't unlock it, but its a no contract price....

That's close. $449 to be exact. And I think Amazon and/or Walmart is asking $499.

AT&T stores *WILL NOT* sell them off-contract for some initial period. I believe it's 90 days. I tried to buy a white one off-contract at 2 separate AT&T stores and was refused with that explanation. I called several others and was told the same thing.
You can, however, buy them off-contract at a Microsoft Store. Price is the same as what AT&T would charge: $449.

That's not entirely accurate, ATT&T stores does not want you to get a new Lumia without a contract but if you specify at the store that you want a "no commitment phone" they will sell it to you at $449.99 dlls. They will try to convince you to get a contract but they will sell it off-contract at the end.
How do I know?, I got mine last week and I do not have an AT&T contract.
Also if you want to get it online (this is for the people that can't go to the AT&T stores" you can get it at Amazon Wireless site for $499.99 dlls, just remember to select the "Replacement Phone" option.
Now... this is the bad part, there are no unlock codes yet for the AT&T Lumia 900... as of today of course.
Hope it helps.

this is not true. They can and do sell no contract, right now. I've seen at least 2 phones sold that way. Now, I understand each store may have discretion on how they sell the phones. But it's not written in stone.

Once they have an ample supply, they will sell the phone to anybody. For now, reserved for contract deals. More $$$ for the sales rep. Makes sense.

I bought mine off contract on launch day. I just told them that customer care said it would be fine if I bought it off contract. The sales guy checked with the manager and they sold it to me.

I bought mine from a Rogers store as well. Off contract in the first week they had them (2weeks ago). Cost was $525 + tax.

I bought mine from the local AT&T corporate store at the no contract price of $449 two weeks back without any problem. The stores are giving $100 worth of accessories free but only if you buy it on contract.

+1 to this. I bought it off a Rogers authorized dealer. Walked into the store, said I wanted to buy the 900 outright. $525 + tax and 10 minutes later, I had the phone in my hands. This was about 2 weeks after launch, at most.

I was buying a white one. No AT&T store in my area would sell one no-commitment.

Hurry Hurry! HTC Tilt2 for USD$200.00. (Revised)

I have a FAN and I just ordered a Tilt2 for $250 with $50 rebate.
Normally FAN phone offers are not as good as the ones offer to the public as the FAN folks gets a discount on their monthly service.
I was trying to make up my mind on a LG Expo or a HTC Tilt2. Both cost me $300. The offer of $100 rebate to Public on LG Expo is not available to FAN folks. The HTC Tilt2 was $350 but with a $50 rebate. That was yesterday! I have been checking both of these phones ever since the LG came out. As yesterday was last day of work, and the offer for rebate is before Christmas. I thought may be I’ll wait a little longer and see if the LG Expo would offer a 100 rebate to FAN customers.
This morning, I locked on to work at home. I just want to check if I could access the ATT Primer Web and saw the Tilt2 went down by $100. Needless to say, I ordered one!
Time is ticking and if folks here have a FAN, this is the window to get the Tilt2. Thought this is such a good deal too good to pass.
(Update)The price drop is good for regular customers and FAN customers.
i got mine about a week ago from letstalk.com and i made 2 cents
It was $198 with a $100 MIR and then sending in my old HTC wizard to HTC for another $100 (you may qualify for this too, head over to http://www.htctradein.com/att/ )

Usually online deals aren't available in stores and when you talk to someone in the store they'll tell you the same thing.
I've read some posts about people talking to the manager in getting them to match and sometimes beat the online price but i've had no luck in doing this with the Tilt 2 and previous devices.
Plus i live in Texas and it didn't take 2days to get to me without paying extra for shipping

I've never had a problem gettting prices matches with online prices with ATT going today called and they said the would give it to me for that price actually. Maybe theyre more willing to match in la.
I did a phone upgrade from Fuze to Tilt 2 on December 1st. Price was $349 minus $50 in the rebate card so $299. Just called and complained after seeing the price cut and being (barely) within my 30-day return window and they gave me a $100 credit to my account, dropping my Tilt 2 cost to $199. Now I need to check into the HTC recycle deal and see if I can get $100 for my oldest HTC (an 8125) which would take me to $99 for my Tilt 2. And I'll still have my original Tilt and Fuze as backup phones, and maybe sell my 8525 on ebay.
Amazon have the phone for $99 with free line activation and a $50 gift card plus you can then do the HTC trade in for $100.
i work for an AT&T store and the $199.99 price is across the board for anyone
I got mine from let's talk on black friday weekend for free. without mail in rebate.
Can't you just add a line and get the phone for free, than just terminate the line for $40.00?
Walked into AT&T store here in SoCal on the day after Christmas, and got the Tilt2 for $150 with a $50 rebate ($100 net cost). Have been customer for years, so they gave me some sort of "Premier" discount. Don't know what exactly that is, but I'll take it!
I've been with AT&T a long time and still have the Cingular 8125 which I plan on trading in.
I want to upgrade to the Tilt 2 but will AT&T force me to get a smartphone data plan?
Is there a way to upgrade to a new phone with them touching your existing phone/data plan?

Where to buy GN outright in Canada?

So i will be in Canada (Toronto) right before xmas. There is a good chance i can get the GN. So Which store can i walk into and buy the GN outright to be used on USA T-Mobile.
At the moment, probably nowhere. BestBuy and Futureshop say they won't sell off contract for a few weeks and Bell won't really either. Your best bet if you're in Toronto is to head to pacific mall in markham and try to pick one up there (probably for a slight premium over MSRP but if you pay cash then you won't get hit with tax so it might work out to be about the same).
The way I got mine was to get it on Virgin Mobile month-to-month (requires a credit check so this won't be an option for you) and then cancelling it immediately and paying off the tab.

Buy Galaxy Nexus outright
if your still looking, I got mine from expansys.ca but it will cost you a little extra, $804 (that includes tax) plus shipping. Bell refused to sell it without a plan but you might be able to get it with Virgin for $650 and just pay for the first month of service.
For Virgin you have to give them 30 days notice of cancellation and you can't give them notice when you're still within your 14 day return window so you end up having to pay for 14 days + 30 days of service, which is about $30 with their cheapest $20 voice plan.

I just bought mine today at The Source without any activation. You just have to find a rep with the right attitude (technically any rep can ring it for you). Regardless of what s/he says about it being locked, it's not, but don't point that out lest we wise them up.
There's also reports that Wireless Wave will sell them outright.
I bought mine off handtec from the UK. Best customer service and it took 48H from payment to holding it. It ended up costing about 800$ after tax and border fees but if you cant get a lucky break from The Source, its only 64$ more then buying it here.
Got no lucky here in Vancouver. I had pre-ordered on Wireless Wave, because a rep told that they would sell it off-contract, but today, he was not there and they just refused to sell me.
Also tried The source and Best Buy, no deal. In one of the 2 Bell stores of metrotown, a rep told me that they can sell it outright, but they dont have it anymore. In the other, just on contract.
Still looking for a place or someone to sell me.

Should i buy the GN from nergi or bell?

i live in toronto, negri is cheaper, but i wanted to buy it from bell / virgin because of warranty reasons, but i will have to pay more
649.99 plus tax would come up to $734.48 and negri has it for like 680 i think?

It looks like Negri's price is $730.50.
And even if it was $680:
$680 USD = $692.68 CAD. Add 5% GST and you get $727.31. I'm not sure if there would also be duty on top of that. There might also be brokerage fees, depending on the shipping method used. So at best you save about $7 and then have to deal with shipping it back to Negri if you have a warranty issue, instead of just taking it down to you local Bell/Virgin store.
Maybe I'm missing something, but the choice seems obvious to me.
Bell wouldn't sell me the Nexus with activating a line for at least a month.
So 35$ for activation fee and 30$ for the cheapest "plan".
Same for Virgin but no activation fee.
I had to buy it from a random dude on Kijiji who had some BNIB Nexus for 730$ locally in Montreal.
The name Negri kind of sounds racist so i wouldn't buy from them...

You'll have to pay HST + duty to bring it into Canada, and I'd be surprised if they'll ship for free to Canada.
When I bought my N1 from Google, the courier showed up with a bill for $89 to cover fees, on top of the price I had already paid. I had to give him my credit card # before he'd release the package to me.
You can buy the GN at full retail without a contract, just depends on the store. I bought mine at a future shop with no problems (oddly, Best Buy won't sell without a contract). I think you'll find warranty issues less painful if you buy locally, and if it's that much of a concern for you, then you can buy the extended service from FS and they'll basically swap your phone for a new one if anything goes wrong.

Honestly, I think it is hit and miss. I bought mine on launch day, the rep told me that a few people had already been in to buy it outright, and asked me which network I'd be activating it on. Told her Rogers, and she said that's what everyone else had said.
But I've also heard that some people have been told at Future Shop that they can't buy without a contract, so it's not consistent. I was turned down at Best Buy, but I've seen others post on the interweb that they bought from Best Buy. There was also another post here saying that the Source was selling outright, which is surprising since they're owned by Bell, but at the same time, as someone who has dealt with Bell corporate in the past, it wouldn't be surprising that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
You may have to store shop a bit, but I'm sure you'll find one that will sell it outright if you stick to the major retail outlets. I'd suggest staying away from the dealers though, they have more of a vested interest in signing contracts and receive fewer units for inventory so will be loathe to sell them outright this soon after launch.
Hope this helps...

Nokia Lumia 900 at Costco

Just talked to a Costco representative who said that the Nokia Lumia 900 is likely to be there on launch day but if not, it'll be there in the first week. Price is going to be $99.99.
Why buy at Costco?
You only pay tax on the sales price (instead of paying tax on the retail value) and Costco also give you a free car charger, case and screen protector. You also get 30 days to return the phone if you don't like it for a full refund.
Not too bad to wait an extra few days if it's not available on launch day.
But AT&T will be free and Amazon for one cent. Plus I heard (see posts in the same forum) that there will be special promo in AT&T stores.
Not so sure if Costco is the best deal. Plus you have to pay for a Costco Membership.

That's what I thought... so if you are new subscriber AT&T and Amazon is better deal. Not that I can buy from them, but I do live close enough to the border and if there a better deal to be had, I would want to see the details. I know off contract is going to be about $450. But if Costco is selling for $99 then I would be interested. Seems to me that AT&T and Amazon are the place to buy for new subscribers.

Apparently it's a discount applied at final checkout so the phone is free or one cent. Obviously I cannot try it because I'm not in the USA.
Best to call up AT&T or go to the store. Apparently there is also some other free stuff they are kicking in but that's not confirmed.
Just found out that Sam's Club is doing a similar deal to Costco where they only charge tax on the sales price of the phone. They don't include all the accessories that Costco does but another option if you have a membership to Sam's Club already.

[Q] Best Buy Showing Note 4 Verizon version as $349 today.

I've been looking at the pre-order page on BB to see if the Verizon version was available to pre-order online. Last night the price showed as $299 on contract and not yet available. Today it shows $349 on contract and not yet available. Did they up the price or is this just an error?
Wont let me post a link to it...
crap that isnt good. i was hoping $699 for off contract. crap time to sell more stuff!
still $699 at verizon! yay
Hopefully that is not the price in store as well.
Its still cheaper than verizon considering that they will accept my htc rezound as a trade in phone while verizonwireless will not.
Just hope I get some one who knows how to transfer an upgrade from one phone number to another.

What worst is that no more pre order for Verizon note 4 from BestBuy. I went to BB today and their system can't do pre order for Verizon N4 and so is the website, however, you still can preorder note4 with AT&T...
Maybe it's an error in their system?
Up to this day you have not been able to preorder via best buys website.
I preordered my Verizon note 4 (white) last Friday and my wife preordered her Verizon note 4 (also white) yesterday (Monday) without any issues. The phone is $299, $100 after trading in ANY working smart phone that isn't damaged (cracked screen, turns on, no water damage). There is NO minimum trade in value required unlike the Samsung promotion ($10 minimum value). They make you buy a $50 gift card as a "place holder" for the phone, you have 48 hours to pick up the phone after it arrives otherwise they will sell it to someone else. All gift cards purchased (the $50 place holder) and the $200 one you receive for trading in a phone, can all be used toward the purchase of the phone immediately.
I have spoke to the store manager, customer service, the Verizon and Samsung reps at the store. The customer service rep did say you need to bring in the charger for it, the others did not say that. I'm going to bring mine in either way. I also took their names down in case they try to pull a fast one. I suggest anyone else does the same so there are no surprises when the phone arrives.
Good luck
I'll put chargers in my car, but I'm not bringing them in unless they make noise about it. My store just said charged working phones without water or cracked screen damage.
