[Q] md5sum of the hboot file don't match! - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for beginner-level question...
Via the wiki page below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com
/wiki/HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
I have downloaded the file vision.hboot-0.84.2000.zip but the result of the md5sum is not what is shown on the wiki page: 2CE1BDD5E4C1119CCFCECB938710D742...
Could anyone tell me where is the problem?
Is the server of the zip file still trust-able?
I use my browser plugin to check md5sum and it works fine with other files I downloaded...
Thank you for your help in advance!

Possible the download was corrupted. Re-download and check it again.

I just took a quick look.
I downloaded it twice and checked md5 sum twice.
D8F61830F104FF5D48B855BBE0D95F56 *vision.hboot-0.84.2000.zip
File size: 221,206 bytes.
Edit: Here are the md5 checksum for the HBoot download from the cyanogen wiki and xda wiki
D8F61830F104FF5D48B855BBE0D95F56 *vision.hboot-0.84.2000(1).zip
D8F61830F104FF5D48B855BBE0D95F56 *vision.hboot-0.84.2000(2).zip
Edit 2: This is generated with Fast Sum 1.7 from Kirill Zinov, and my HDD has fiile compression on so my md5 maybe different that yours but nevertheless, the files seem to be trust-able.
My guess: The xda wiki folks and the cyanogen folks forgot to check the check sum, or maybe it's just crappy software generate crappy md5 SUM
My advise:
1/ go ahead and use it, or
2/ use cynogenmod guide. I personally used this guide. They're the same anyways.
Cyanogen root guide for the Desize Z
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HT...26_the_Engineering_HBoot_for_the_HTC_Desire_Z

for the xda wiki, its the md5sum for the .img inside the zip. not the zip.
The cm wiki has the zip of the zipfile, as gu1dry doesn't want to add the extra instruction.
-Nipqer

Thank you. I have got D8F61830F104FF5D48B855BBE0D95F56 too!

Oh, I see... Thank you for the info!

Redownload the iso or what ever file you need. Make sure you deleat the old file and clear cash just to be sure, also do check md5 again
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Exactly that, that shows the download you've done is corrupt
This is not a case of S-OFF only supporting anything.
This is to do with the intergity of the file you have downloaded.
If your downloaded file does not EXACTLY match the MD5 checksum on the website - DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT try and flash it, you will more than likely brick your phone.
Burn the CD at the lowest speed possible to avoid errors. Might be a bad CD, not a bad download.
The MD5 checksum is on the download not the actual CD - if the download doesn't match then don't burn the CD

[Q] Checking Md5 sums

I'm a noob when it comes to Linux and it's commands and I'm currently dual booting with ubuntu (windows installer) and when it says check md5 sums to see if they match i have no idea, how am i suppose to find the md5 sum for my phone because i have no idea. Detailed instructions is greatly appreciated. My phone is currently rooted running oxygen RC 7 s-off stock table.
Thanks,
Ryan
Why would you want to find the md5 of the phone? Since your S-off and running oxygen I'm gone guess you want to change hboot, just download the hboot image, then open a terminal and type "md5sum "with the space, and drag and drop your hboot image in to the terminal window. It might add " to the location of the hboot image so remove those.

You need to check the md5 of the file you've downloaded to make sure it matches the original file on the website. Google it and you'll find some freeware programs that will do the job
md5 is nothing to do with your phone
Let me google that for you.
yeah GOOGLE is your friend
Command name is 'md5sum'. This utility usually comes built-in with linux (most distros should have this..). Go to a terminal and type in:
'md5sum <filename>'
Replace <filename> with the file you want to check and make sure you are in the directory which holds that file.
EDIT: I'm not sure what you meant when you said "find the MD5 sum of my phone"...this is the only way I know of for checking MD5 sums.
In very simple terms:
MD5 provides a checksum for an arbitary file. It's just a string of characters like a long PIN code.
You can use it to guarantee that the file that's been downloaded is identical to the original, i.e. not corrupted on the way. So for any file that has an associated MD5 sum. You download the file and run a MD5 utility on that file on your system and check the MD5 value output against the original one.
There are many other checksum utilities available but MD5 is the one most used currently.

need hp

i am new on this i wos worked whit 6.5 hd2 all things
can somebody give links about why we must check md 5 what is that
some basic things i look on net but is so dificult to understanding
thanks
Md5 is like a validation that a package is complete I.e not corrupt. If there is an Md5 value with a download, you run the package through an Md5 app and if the output matches, its all good.
If you're on windows, Google winMd5
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Md5 is something like file integrity check.
More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD5
I use this tool: http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/md5sums/
Drag & drop the file on the .exe and it generates the MD5 sum.
5 md I realized how much like a fingerprint jedinstver which every rom there correct me if I am wrong I am specially interested in what was to check the MD 5 the numbers are small, or something within the file, I have not found anywhere video tutorial because it would mean a lot of people who are struggling with English so well as I do, and thus reduce the number of posts with the same issues apologize ...one more for this

[Q] Verify md5 (radio flash)

It says to verify md5... I downloaded the file verifier off the market. Now where do I go and how do I verify the md5? Thanks in advance!
I usually verify the MD5 on my computer, then transfer the zip to my SD card. I'm not sure how to do it from the phone.
EDIT: I downloaded MD5 Checker from the Market to my phone. You'll need to browse to the zip file for the radio, and copy/paste the MD5 hash that the zip is supposed to have. It'll run to see if the two match.
Okay... I am looking at this:
To flash:
1. Place on ROOT directory of your FAT32 formatted SD card & rename to only PB31IMG.zip.
2. Boot into hboot (volume down + power) & confirm the radio update.
3. When done updating select reboot now. Do not try to boot immediately into recovery from hboot.

So... what am I verifying these md5's against?

Yeah, you'll want to browse to the location of the radio zip file, and copy the MD5 the website lists into the MD5 field, then run the checker to see if the MD5 matches.

[SOLVED] ParanoidAndroid 1.992 md5 hashes don't match

I don't post much so was unable to place this under the proper thread.
None of the four mirrors for ParanoidAndroid 1.992 give me the correct md5 hash after downloading and they all produce corrupt archives that I can't open with 7zip (without doing anything fancy). I am also unable to copy the zip over to the phone... on Win7 it gives me the error "Cannot copy item. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." although I can copy other files to the device both before and after receiving the error message without problem.
The md5 provided with the download claims it should be: e63eda63858fb5fb4255d1dac84263e7
md5 of the file downloaded from the main server is: bf1e276bed2ef101d7cf662b0b0737f9
md5 of mirror 1 is: bf48c44a07055a5a1ec06f5c2e4bb0dd
md5 of mirror 2 is: 0ac7ffb779117b803646006a8c408dc4
md5 of mirror 3 is: 47b6d9c1c49eca3cf033e30f49303e61
Each of the mirrors gives a file with a different md5. I am downloading from beta dot androidfilehost dot com/?fid=9390077933525139513 and using the 3 mirrors listed on the right side of that page. Again... can't post links apparently. What am I supposed to do if I just need to read threads for the most part and only comment every once in a blue moon? I've flashed dozens of roms provided by the wonderful devs here and most of them either work without a hitch or I'm able to figure out how to make them work without requiring assistance so I only have to post a comment on those rare cases like this one where I can't even download the rom.
Might as well turn this into the Paranoid Android nightly thread...

I'm pretty sure you are clicking on adware. You should only have to click on the big green Arrow to download.

Fast replies and from the developers themselves. That's what I love about XDA.
Hopefully I'll be able to upload the screenshot otherwise my description will have to suffice.
On my first attempt to download the file, these are the steps I took:
Went to the PA thread in the developers section of XDA
Under "Instructions" I clicked on the link for "Install ROM: Here"
This took me to the Team Nocturnal forum with a nearly identical post where I again clicked on "Install ROM: Here" under the Instructions section
This took me to http : // beta dot androidfilehost dot com/?fid=9390077933525139513
I clicked on the green arrow beside where it says "Download pa_d710_1.992_2SEP2012 dot zip" (had to replace . with dot)
At the download dialog box I saved the file to my hard drive
Dragged the file onto the md5sums application which opened a cmd prompt window revealing the md5 of the file
I later attempted to download the file using all four alternative options:
Team Nocturnal
mirrors
(CA) Mirror #3
(IL) Mirror #2
(IL) New Mirror #1
(UT) Main Server
I'll try again when I'm at home and on a better connection but if anyone else could verify that they get the correct md5 from a fresh download that would ease my mind and I could then concentrate on figuring out what's wrong with my system/connection that I would get a bad download.

Bingo!
While it took a few attempts (which is why I originally went with DownThemAll) I was finally able to finish a download using the native firefox download utility and not only do the md5 hashes match but the file opens with 7zip and copies to the sdcard on the phone.
Mission successful, much thanks for all your help.
Kbizzle, you may want to add this note to your thread... the site you use to host the zip files does not appear to agree with DownThemAll and possibly other 3rd party download clients.
Cheers.
