101 G9 vs 101 G9 Turbo - Gen9, Gen10 General

Hi there, i will buy a archos 101 for me. As far as i know there are three versions of the 101 right? I wonder if there are big differences between them? and how can i identify which one has the 1gb ram (between the basic version of 1ghz and the turbo version of 1.5ghz)?
Hope you can help me thanks a lot.

The only one with 1GB ram is the 1.5Ghz Turbo, it should say on the box if it is, if it doesn't only way to confirm is update it to ICS
Sent from my ice cream powered Nexus S

But is there a big difference between the two models? Or should i buy the cheapest one

With 1GB of RAM all is a bit smoother, especially multitasking. And I heard it is a bit better manufactured.
I would not buy the old version unless it's atleast 100€ less. Even then I'm not sure.

Humm ok ok i just dont know if i buy this tablet of there is a better solution than this one at the price asked here in Portugal turbo will cost 309€ do u think this tablet is worth it?

Do you think it would be sensible to upgrade from an Archos 80 g9 250Gb 1.2Ghz 512Ram to the new Archos 80 G9 1.5ghz?
It will cost me $80US to trade it in for the new one, that's the shipping costs. Should I just buy a new one for $315US? Or should I just stick with the one I currently have?

i have the twice
no big differences

is there any benefit to have 1gb ram? I can't think of anything I could possibly do to use that much ram on my tablet. does it increase overall stability or anything?
1gb really?
...are you *positive* about 1gb ram? The ARCHOS website doesn't mention it like that and from what I hear the new ones too have "only" 512mb.

if cajl says it it's probably true. besides it makes sense. all manufacturers are gonna jump on the bandwagon and make all devices with 1gb+ ram
for the 1go YES it is true - mail from Archos -
the benefit...what benefit. Perhaps a little more....

I think it's not much difference.....Into Nexus S with 512Mb RAM and only 1GHz ICS run very well almost as fluently as Motorola RAZR 1Gb RAM and with dual-core 1.2GHz
Problem is slightly different if we refer to games !
Yes for the game
Not 1gb RAM in A80
Have just received a brand new 1.5Ghz Archos 80 G9 ref 502036 expecting 1gb RAM: system info app confirms 1.5 Ghz but only 466Mb RAM (i.e. 512Mb model).
where have you buy this model ?
Hi cajl I bought it in the UK: couldn't get it anywhere until last Friday when I got a stock notification email: now quite a few suppliers are offering it again.
Some suppliers are advertising it as 1gb but Archos on their web store do not specifiy the RAM (all with the same model number).
I have contacted Archos but honestly, the guys there do not have a clue! They have escalated my query this time however, which is, "is there a 502036 available with 1gb RAM, because my model only has 512mb".
One of the suppliers advertising it as 1gb is also following up the query for me with Archos. All they can say is that Archos notified them the new stock would be 1gb RAM but their item looks identical to mine in every way (and to the one on the Archos web-site - all the same model number of course too).
Very surprised that even with part number, model number, product ID and everything, Archos could not tell me what my RAM was: I had to download an app to find out myself.
They also insisted that unless Ice cream sandwich was pre-installed, it was not 1.5Ghz: but mine definitely is, even though it still only has Android 3.2!

I have a 501840,
Came preinstalled with honeycomb and showed only 512 RAM until I updated to ICS where it shows 1GB.
One user from this forum just had de same problem...do the update to ics and it should say 1GB...it due kernel limitations in honeycomb...
this did the trick for the guy i+m talking about...i hope

yes .. the update on ICS increase the RAM !!!!
Archos, it's a kind of magic !!!
magic indeed! Even as I read this thread, updates appear to have downloaded - but still I have 466 MB ram. Let me see if a reboot will activate the magic for me!
Is it the honeycomb update or the ice cream sandwich one?
For me, I could not update to ice cream sandwich with the tablet updater. I had to manually download the update here:
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_4.0.4/firmware_archos_it4.aos
Download this file, connect the tablet to your computer, copy this file over onto the tablet, the tablet should ask you if you want to install the update (if it doesn't, find and select the file in the file browser on the tablet) then let it update.
Once you have Ice Cream Sandwich running you should have your 1gb of RAM.
Unbelievable: magic indeed! Tablet has auto updated (once I realised I had to request the install) from honeycomb to ICS and now has full 1gb ram (well, 'max 892Mb anyhow')!
Why o why can't Archos put this basic information on their web-site instead of just staying absolutely silent about the RAM? Only you guys, especially calj, not even Archos customer service or tech support (not at the customer interface level anyhow) have any idea what is going on! I guess the update would have happened anyway, but some of us like to know what is going on and to be sure we have got the right product.
Thanks again to all who have correctly informed me here.
Does this also apply to the 1.2GHz Turbo models? When I updated to ICS, it didn't show the 1GB of RAM, but I'm hopeful if I downgrade to Honeycomb, then upgrade to ICS that it might "unlock" it.

No, it doesn't apply to 1.2, Archos added memory very recently and it's only available on what they called ICS models.
It's not the fimrware installation that unlocks it, it's because ICS kernel is the only one that can handle it. So downgrading/upgrading won't work, and downgrading is not possible anyway.
Got my g9 101 ICS 1.5ghz 1gb few days ago. Seems like hdmi-out is completely broken for me. Tried with the official 4.04 and the test firmware no change. Have also tried keeping hdmi connected when booting the device and still nothing. Is everyone with g9 101 ics having this same issue?
Max 890MB
Dear All,
I am new to forum. I just bought the 1.5Ghz and updated to ICS. My RAM is showing 890mb max. Please is this equivalent to 1gb ram

Archos G9 101 Turbo 1.5GHz - qvcuk TSV

Qvcuk.com have this model as their todays special value today until midnight. It is the 1.5ghz model with 1gb ram & 8gb flash. It comes with honeycomb out out the box with instructions to upgrade to ICS. Also includes case, screen protector, stylus & software bundle all for £249.99 or you can have it on 3 interest free payments.
Seems like a pretty good deal as you can also use their 30 day money back guarantee to return it if you don't like it. I did this previously with an 80 G9 as I didn't like the screen.

Archos 101 G9: 1.5Ghz vs 1Ghz

In the UK at the Carphone Warehouse the 1Ghz model is available for £150. I am wondering if there is any noticeable performance differences between the 101 G9 and the 101 Turbo G9?
Also, will Archos just decide to update the Turbo to Jelly Bean?

Yes there is a noticeable performance gain. The 1.5ghz model runs more fast and efficient. I recommend that one. If Archos decides to update the G9s to jelly bean, most likely they will update ALL G9s (including 1.0ghz)

Consider also that the Turbo version available now (new item, not used one) has 1 ghz RAM, while the old 1ghz G9 has only 512 MB RAM. That also is important.
Antutu Benchmark of my Archos G9 250gb Turbo (ICS 4.0.3 rel. 4.7, 1.5 ghz CPU, 1 GB RAM): 7.300, that's noticeable (Galaxy SIII: 11-14.000, Transformer Prime: 9-10.000, Galaxy Note: 7.000). Consider that with the 8/16 gb flash version you can reach a better value (the 250 gb HDD is a little bit slower and it has a negative impact on the benchmark).

although watch out because there are models that are turbo models but only have 512mb ram. you have to buy one with ics sandwich listed on the box. if it doesnt have that then it is an older model and wont have the 1gb ram.
archos 101 g9 turbo 8gb - some help , please
Archos 101 G9 Turbo ( ICS )
I had a problem with USB HOST because I cannot connect anything to it.
After some unsucess on trying I went to a reformat but speeding up the situation I forget to see that the system can only be manual reinstall using a AOS file that it is on Archos site but I cannot find that file and the only link that I find was broken.
Can someone on charity mode provide me the file and some instrutions to my 2 day´s device regain life ?
Thank you, your help will be much appreciate.

1.5Ghz v 1Ghz
Hi Mr.fast
I own a 1.5Ghz / 1GB (G9 Turbo) and I am really impressed, with the performance of this sub £200 slate. No doubting the extra 512MB of RAM on the turbo version, works well with the Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 ES1.1 CPU.
So with the two extra half gigs of power and ram,its quick.
Also you might find the 1Ghz non Turbo version comes with "Honeycomb" and is upgradeable to "ICS".
However I would definitely recommend upgrading the ICS firmware (4.0.1) to (4.0.3) asap, as I found the out the box firmware very buggy, random reboots, WiFi disconnects freezing etc...
I think Archos will offer Jelly Bean, in the first or second Qtr ,2013.
Regards A.Cusack
P.S. I think this is one of the cleanest ICS roms i,ve seen, you even get the option to add the third party apps.
perhaps !
I'm guessing that the turbos are much smoother than my tablet. Even though with serdu pics blue mine is much much better.

Absolute bargain given that you would pay the more for a budget tablet (Nexus 7).
Picked up one for me and the wife today. Nice to have an Archos again, certainly much quicker than my old G9 (non-turbo)!

buy a fire i cannot register

I can pick up a fire that works fine but says it cannot be registered. would this be fine if I planned on running a custom rom and using the android market. The price is around $80. Is this a good tablet for that or am I better off buying something else. I have rooted unlocked and flashed roms on motorolla backflip and a couple of atrixes so I am not completely helpless in flashing and modding. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated
Ok another part of the question is do you think this tablet would run better than a brand new cheap tablet ( below $100). I know the fire i am looking at has a 1ghz dual core processor and 512mb ram I cannot find anything new with a dual core for this price. Do they run better than a tablet with a 1ghz or 1.2 single core and does the 512mb ram cause a problem
I am looking at this for a eight year old to play some games on maybe read and text with the pinger app
It`s fine for a custom rom just research how to do what you need to do before leaping.

The Kindle Fire may be inferior in some hardware aspects to those cheap tablets BUT a lot of those cheap tablets have horrible battery life! What's the use of having a tablet in which the battery only lasts 2-3 hours? They may look like a great deal but another thing to consider is can you actually upgrade them?.....the Kindle Fire has a huge following and because of that you'll continue to see lots of development for it.
ok so purchaced a couple cheaper tabs 1 new curtis tab for 50$. 1 new uniden for 60. and a used herotab for $36. the 2 new ones have ics and were easy enough to get gapps on and root (uniden came rooted). herotab runs gingerbread and i have yet to try rooting as it has gapps allready. all 3 have 1ghz and 512 mb ram. herotab runs the best in my opinion but it may just be that gingerbread is less demanding. i got these for my kids age 8 and 3 1/2. youngest actually does better on Android devices than 8yearold lol. i think they run fine for what they will do with them. i plan on returning one of the new ones. i also picked up a gallaxy note phone for myself $150 so i dont need a tablet... anyway thanks for all the advice (even if i went the other way)

As long as they keep working. I went through 2 tablets b4 these I think they were d2pad or something like that. better specs but out of the 2 of them had about 10 minutes of use before just froze and would not work at all. they went back to the store. I am loving the note right now. It will be replacing my motorola atrix and I might switch my wife's atrix to samsung as well after moto failed to update.
