Virtua tennis not compatible. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ok when I bought my nexus, I was aware of the issues regarding the fragmentation of the Android market, which results in compatability of most games, and wasn't expecting to use the device as a gaming unit anyway, as I have an ipod touch, just for gaming. But was out on research this weekend and didn't carry my ipod, and due to the bad weather in England, ended up staying longer, were we was, so I read an article that stated that virtua tennis by Sega, which was previously only exclusive to Sega, was now available for other android devices, so bearing in mind this phone is Google, s own baby, fired android market or play, as it's now called, and you can imagine my surprise when I was met with "app not compatible with your phone ", seriously, what chance do other phones have if the Google phone itself has compatibility issues with some games unbelievable to say the least. So that means, the developers loose out as I cannot purchase the app, and this is were IOS is stronger, on gaming only, otherwise android is better everything else, I wish Google would sort this out.

It's up to the app developer to make updates for in this case ICS and higher resolution. ICS is still fairly young so not all developers have updated or will ever update their apps for new versions.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

ICS will slowly work out problems such as this. The problem is that not everything that came before ICS will make the transition. The other problem is that ICS is too new. Aside from the Nexus users, ICS barely exists. Updates are only now rolling out for certain phones.
It's frustrating now, but hopefully in the future things will become better. Google is working hard at this. They've already started releasing better tools to devs.

If the app shows up on Google Play on your phone then it sure should be compatible or it would not be there. Did you change your screen density? That is one thing that will give you an app incompatability issue in the market.

Games on the HD - Why a poor selection.

I recently got the HD. Must say, it is a sexy beast. One factor that led me to choose this over the iPhone was -
* A greater selection of apps and the ability to install whatever you wished.
I am a keen game player and currently, with the HTC HD I have the following problems.
1. Lack of D-Pad/hardware buttons means that there many existing titles are unsuitable for play
2. The screen ratio means that more titles dont play (in full resolution).
3. There just arent any good motion controlled games (whereas, there IS on the iPhone)
4. Game titles that do work properly on the HD (and even those that dont) are boring/not very fluid/not exciting/2D - certainly not the case for the iPhone.
5. Game development for the iPhone seems an active process - every week, one hears of a new innovative game release for the iPhone, which one never hears for the HD or other PPC.
6. I tried using emulators - including the PSX one, just too slow, doesnt do much for me.
What do people have to say about the list above? Specifically:
1. Is there any way of playing iPhone games on the HTC HD
2. Why is no one making use of the HTC HDs gaming potential/motion sensor?
From a rather cheated purchacher.
OMG i cant hear it anymore. every second post is whining about the so cool iphone and the crappy touch hd.
windows mobile has the problem that it has good applications, but boring games. many developers seem still to think that its only a phone for business usage.
the touch hd is not a dedicated gaming device, if you want one, you have to buy a psp or iphone. thats it.
just listen carefully , its not the problem of the device(its windows mobile so it has the ability to accept great games and its also proved by the Xtrakt game!) , its the problem of the developers there are no / or a little developers that can make games like Xtrakt. (oh btw Xtrakt wasnt even developed by a hd user or for the hd it was developed for the Xperia )
sorry, if im wrong just delete this reply or ignore it !
sorry for my bad English

The problem is that every company that makes phones can use any chipset they want and there is no SDK for developers to use that is standardized for all Windows phones. hopefully with the next line of HTC phones there will be enough in that line to encourage developers to figure it out. Anyway, try Need For Speed as well and you can enable the gsen to work for it until the new version (that EA is including the gsen in) is released: http://www.fuzemobility.com/need-for-speed-gsen-enabled-now/
if u ask me... 800x480 is new one to developers(popular device) so they need time to adapt their new games so u will play to your device...till now u got 640x480 games working on your blackstone(adapted somehow ) and wait for new 1 to come...
cheer
ps. u cant compare iphone with blackstone cos, trust me, iphone its not worth it
my missus has an iphone and they are two completly different phones its like comparing a toaster with a microwave.
iphone has great games and gui interface and is damn easy to use but it lacks applications and modifications
get your missus to get an iphone that way u can play the games on hers while still modifying your hd!

I don't know why you feel "cheated" because really, you should have known that coming in.
Also, WVGA screens are not all that popular at the moment - you've bought a leading edge device and support is still coming - wait for the TD2 and TP2, and then you should see a lot more apps coming.
Also, iPhone has the App Store - developers have incentive to make games for /one/ platform (2 if you count iPod Touch)...WM developers have to cater for so many devices that it's almost ridiculous - not to mention that people will just pirate the software anyway.
Wait until the Microsoft MarketPlace goes online for a bit, and you should see a lot more games and apps coming your way.
But honestly? If you got want a phone to play games, then get an iPhone. If you want a phone to play music, get a Nokia 5800 or an iPhone..if you want a phone that you can watching HQ vids on, flash the brains out of, with tons of add-ons, without fear of fiddling around and tweaking that phone until it's uniquely yours, then get a Touch HD. WinMo is not the most user-friendly OS out there...but that's why we have XDA and all those awesome cooks/devs out there!

I could be very wrong but microsoft market place has been online for years. i certainly recall submitting my own applications around 4 years ago.
Just to summarize, I now understand that there is lack of good games for the HD for the following reasons:
1. Software/hardware of every single windows mobile is different therefor, developers do not know what to target. iPhone is what it is.
2. People who buy WM are not interested in flashy games
3. The hardware of HD is superior to iPhone for playing games. But despite this, people are not interested in development because of these reasons.
4. Its easy to download cracked games and stuff for WM devices so developers are losing out.
5. there are ok games out there but most of them have one or more limitations (e.g. sensor support, wrong screen resolution)
6. If you want the fully customizable phone and the joys of playing games on an iPhone, you first need a woman.
7. Microsoft will never do anything to get these problems sorted.
8. Looks like we WM users will never have proper games for our devices.
Depressing thought really.
you're right, it is depressing...but with the new WVGA devices coming out soon, with Windows Mobile 6.5 on the way, we should see new interest in WM devices and hopefully games for them.
and you may be right about the marketplace, but I am sure that Microsoft are planning on releasing the Microsoft Marketplace (or re-releasing it) with WM6.5 launch, it will function in much the same way as the Android version and the Palm version - to compete with the charm of the AppStore

+1 the naked truth!
Windows Mobile
HD is a very good mobile hardware, the problem is the software used , Windows Mobile , which is very limited for the applications versus the competitor system Mac iPhone. I have and I am using both of them for my private business. With the firmware version 3, iPhone is going to be a superior and first in class of technology for the mobile market. No doubt!
Actually you can find a lot of applications and games working very well on iPhone (see appulo.us), meanwhile on HD the selection is very, very limited. In the next future, also the viruses will start to growth around in windows mobile system, and again it will be a problem similar to XP system forced to use antivirus software, etc.
This is the truth, all the rest it’s just a sterile discussion...nothing else.
The way I see it, Blackstone is one of the first major HTC sellers, that makes use of a 480x800 screen res....The newest and coming up models, are to have the exact same screen res.and in addition, the same processor and RAM capacity, like Diamond 2, Pro 2 etc.
So, hopefully, more users will own the same "platform" (mobile phone's specifications)- meaning there will be more room for potentional customers of the developers' programs.
Keep in mind, that the more popular a platform is, the more the developers want to work with it...And iPhone, at least as a standalone device, is by far more popular than any Htc device...
However, consider 4-5 or more Htc models, with the same specs as the HD...Now that should make a difference....shouldn't it?
Lets break this down nice a simple:
IPhone - One of apples "up there own arse" products who stand there saying "Hay we have loads of support from others an were know for our best selling IPod so.....lets jump on the phone market" make it look all shiny an add loads of apps an Itunes Support!
HTC Touch HD - I know let do a phone that use windows, can have the OS upgraded with future possibilites for apps, fully PC compable for access (As not everyone can aford A £800 Mac), A large nice screen, word that is back compatable with older docs and more.
Personaly Apple piss me off as I'm a music producer an there so up them selfs with "Logic Pro - Mac Only".....Oh wait Cubase is multi-format.
You see my point here?! Apple have for me have just bandwagon jumped "cashing in" so to speak on the phone market an keeping all the arps exclusive for the I-Phone much like Logic only for there Macs - yeah good phone but for how long?
Rant Over!

While that is true, the keywords there are "most" and "in some form".
I dont like apple products, and doubt I would ever buy one. But with the iphone they have redefined what people want and are coming to expect from high end handsets.

That is very true... but I think it is only a matter of time until interesting concepts are "ported" to WM... Just look at TouchFlo: This effort of making WM finger-friendly is a direct result of the iphone - and my HD is becoming more finger-friendly with every new ROM released here!
Lets be fair. Despite my love for my HTC HD, I have come to accept that those with iPhones enjoy something greater than what we can ever hope to... entertainment to the max when it comes to games... developers are gagging for it.
also, let us not say that iPhone is for bums and WM devices are for the social elite... the reality is that most users are looking for a, when X equals the benefits of a PDA phone, 'mobile phone with X' (X being the extra), not 'X with a mobile phone' (mobile phone being the extra). I just wish in the case of the latter, X could also include games.
With my HD, I have already enjoyed the GPS with TomTom, WiFi and all the hours of fun it brings, software programming and trying out some random apps (many of which dont work, however had elated prior to actually running them). I dont think an iPhone, despite it obvious offer of sensually pleasing games, could have left me satisfied so, especially when I dont have a missus.
I have to be honest, things are looking up, the need for speed game appears to be an exciting development.

Question about Android games & apps

Am I the only one that thinks the games & apps for the HTC desire sucks - compared to iPhone stuff? Or am I missing out on something?
buy an iphone then. android is not for average joe
you're posting in the wrong forum.
but in answer to your question, yes, you probably are.
Games could be better but Galaxy S has a better gpu then Desire so once more phones are released like that we will see better games,
Apps are good on Android, we have 54% of all apps which are free compared to Apple who have not as many free ones. Plus more dont mean better.
Could anyone name 3 good games for android
Fifa 10, Asphalt 5, Doodle Jump
Homerun battle 3d, gangstar, raging thunder 2.
soon Angry Birds!!

No your not. I'm not gonna deny m8.
I prefer my desire overall.
But Android Market compared to Appstore is Complete Rubbish.
But before anybody starts calling me an apple fanboy.
I think this time next year android market will be far ahead of appstore.
If you compare android market now to what it was a year ago, theres a huge difference in quality of apps and games.
Apple has been on the market longer hence it is more developed. so as mentioned above, give it another year
Tower Raiders is quite worthwhile too.

Yes it sucks, and doesn't have the friendliest community either looking at some of the comments above.
To put into perspective - I love Android. I support it, I use it, I have used it for over 8 months and don't see myself switching to anything else.
However, in terms of apps - well look at the quality of the iPhone apps, they look so slick and intuitive it's unbelievable. In comparison the apps made for Android using the default Views look awful. I know there's a few good looking apps, but a "few" isn't most unfortunately.
Games as well, Android does have a fair few good titles such as Asphalt, RoboDefense and so on - but that's only the tip of the iceberg. There is a very long way to go if Android wants to compete in the general consumer market directly against iPhone (whose customers buy the phone mainly for the apps anyway). I read in an article yesterday saying that most of iOS's top apps are actually games. Most of Android's are utility apps and not a single game in it's top 10.
No use saying that Android is just for intelligent people anymore. It was at the time of the G1, and was even upto the start of this year. But now the gameplan has changed, they do want to make it an OS for everyone, not just geeks. Look at the marketing for the Desire, the DroidX, the X10 and so on.
However, the future isn't that dark - there should be LOADS more games coming with as new avenues for developers to actually make decent games open up:
- Flash
- AIR
- Unity Engine
- OpenFeint
- Google own aquisitions of small game-making companies such as LabPixies
- probably other stuff I've not come across
All this stuff, along with stats showing a lot of devs switching over to Android means that that we could see a massive increase in quality games in the upcoming months.
Android market suffers becuase of lack of a2sd support for most of the phones/users...
Developers are probably trying to use as little of phone's internal memory as possible, and that's why the same apps look cheaper on android comparing to iphone.
Google really f*cked up with apps installation

totally agree, the desire is pretty much twice as powerful as the 3gs it just doesnt have anywhere to put the data for big games etc, thats what froyo should fix.
i think the android market has come on in leaps and bounds, it reminds me of my palm days when you could pretty much find an app to do anything you wanted for free. the only downside of that is that to a certain extent, the volume of free apps acts as a disincentive to professional developers as it may give them the impression that it will be harder to monetise their products, of course some devs may be attracted to the vibrant community that is android rather than the staid walled garden that iphone apps seems to be.
in conclusion, froyo for everyone, either that or root for all and apps2sd. maybe its time that devs developed larger programs specifically for the root market. hmmmmm

All I'm worried about is that the next gen games won't work well with the Galaxy Nexus. These games look great, but with Apple and other companies (e.g Samsung) pushing mobile gaming, and the new mobile GPU's that are coming out, ours is already obsoleted and probably won't be good enough to play a lot of games in the future

From what I've seen, gaming on the "higher end" phones simply just add useless eye candy and don't effect overall game play at all. I love eye candy, don't get me wrong, but I don't fear that we'll be left out in the cold.
With Quad-Core not even out yet, I don't think we'll be seeing anything that requires a "Quad-Core or higher" for a long time.
I also just noticed how the software buttons rotate depending on orientation. Life's simple joy!
Forgive me for not being so knowledgeable on technology, but I would be mistaken in thinking that even if Quad-Core is released, most phones won't even be able to utilise it properly for a good year or two? And by the time they are put to good use, all our Galaxy Nexus contracts will be up and we'll be eligible for an upgrade and we'll be hopping on the newest Nexus?
So quad-core doesn't even matter for a while even if they are being released next year?
Back on topic the phone looks insanely smooth, even when you had all them games open it was silky! I'm loving it a lot, getting it tomorrow
could you test the kairosoft games? like game dev story and the others?
on honeycomb if you used mulittouch zooming all their apps crashed. kinda worried it may be the same with the GNex.
The screen is good but until the games are updated 'proper' we will not know how good performance can really be.

Exactly my thoughts. For example on mine Plants v. Zombies looks great and works great for a few minutes, then freezes when under heavy load (i.e. "Final Wave" pushes). It can't be the GPU or memory issues because other (just as graphically heavy- if not more so) games (like Tiki Golf 2) are perfect.
I just want to clarify how good that first game is?
Check out the Verge's Transformer Prime review http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/1/2601558/asus-eee-pad-transformer-prime-review
They play the game and attach it to a 52" HD screen!

Plants vs Zombies?

Has anyone been able to get this game working yet? cant believe how long they are taking to port it to ics!
I am not sure the issue. I purchased my plants vs zombies through amazon market a long time ago and it works on my nexus.
Now that I have actually played it (just installed... only had it for a week or so) it semi locked up on me during tutorial. Is that the typical issue?
I cant get it to run on my AOKP Galaxy Nexus either. Bummer....
doesn't work on Android 4.0
For some reason I don't think that game will get any more support for it past that one update. I bought it from Amazon too, but I've given up.
not working yet for ics and not in the future i think
It's working fine for me, played a few levels just now. First startup froze but after exiting the app and starting it again I got right in.

I was so bummed when i tried to play PvZ and Peggle and saw that they are not optimized for ICS. I could not play these on my OG DROID and was waiting for a new phone to play them.
Like WiredPirate, said forcing GPU setting fix it! well almost. it played a whole level and it froze on the huge wave. Normally im lucky if i can plant one sunflower. so pretty big improvement there.

it's not that it doesnt work with ICS, i was running CM9 on my nexus s and it worked fine for about 3 days until my galaxy nexus arrived and now it refuses to even install
it's like it's the device rather than the software which is the limiting factor, maybe it doesn't like the way the software buttons etc are done?

Will there be Xperia play 2?

I haven't gotten any information about the second vision of this incredible phone.. Just like this design.. Maybe the next phone for me is Pureview 808
The answer is a resounding "maybe"
I'd probably lean towards no though. Unfortunately, our phones are too niche, I'd wager.
if they plan to release an xplay 2 they better announce it before they launch the hayabusa.
Yes
but not soon.
Yes, in my opinion, Xperia Play was just an experiment to observe how a mobile gaming phone would react to the smartphone industry. And it did pretty good after a few months full of nice updates and optimizations of games for this phone.
Unfortunately, XPlay is quite underpowered right now compared to the newest phones which have 2x better specifications. But it still rocks knowing the fact that it can run ICS.
I think the next generation of XPlay could have 2 directions:
1. It could be a better, upgraded version of Xperia Play.
2. It could be a real PSP phone, on which you can play PSP games.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I never saw much about the Xperia Play (here in the States, at least) unless I just happened to see it on my carrier's website, or in a store on display, without the gamepad slid out. I think this phone would have really benefited from being pushed as a "gamer's phone," especially with them having announced the PSN store connectivity. Unless their sole target market was Japan, I think the reason this phone was held back was the lack of hype from Sony Ericsson, itself.
If the Xperia Play had really taken off, it wouldn't be hard to imagine Microsoft trying their hand at having an X-Box portable-type phone, with all the X-box Live connectivity they already have with Windows Phone 7. Even Nintendo, the veritable king of handheld gaming, would most likely have tried their hand at doing the phone thing.
If they make it run the vita os and keep it as phone only without the android ecosystem, It would make it rather lame. In fact I would probably look into a highend slider as a replacement, I could bind the xplay buttons to certain buttons on the keyboard and still use them, and have all the other benefits of Android phones as well.
Not saying one using vita os would be terrible if your just after phone basics and good games, i just like what we have going in android and think alot of it wouldnt be available under vita os.
The new so called "PS" phone aka Xperia Play 2 will only rise once Sony's new PSP Vita saturates in the market.

pfff. From what I can tell this time has already come. Before I had gotten my vita sales in japan had been bad. Which for Sony is NOT good. I played my vita for about a week or two. Its been sitting on my desk ever since. There are no good games for it and there's nothing else to do with it.
I want an Xperia Play 2 so badly.....
