Google Wallet fix....kind of - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i posted this in another older thread dealing with the secure element
well i dont know if this has been found out before, but here is my story
i got the hong kong nexus gsm back when it came out here in dallas tx tmobile. flashed it to stock google yakju. i used the wallet app apk and everything worked great. when the update came out it stopped working.
go to settings, apps, all. go to wallet, clear data. go to google account manager, clear data. go to google services framework, clear data. once u do that go to about phone check for update. it will have some weird 1969 date. once it checks open wallet and now it works. only thing is pre paid error when adding card
so i flashed to the new takju and same thing. followed thoes steps and same thing.
as far as i can get with wallet

If you are getting an error when adding your prepaid Google card and you previously had one activated, you need to call Money Network and have them do a master reset on your account. The number is 855-896-0693.

Will try thanks

Unsuccessful
I tried, but it did not work for me. I'm still getting the "secure element..." message. Has anyone tried activating with a different battery?

The battery is an antenna. Nothing more. Secure Element lives in your phone.

Does the master reset really work? I tried this from an apk long time ago and now it won't work with the market installed app and won't allow me to add a prepaid card.

I got this today, stuck at "Initializing your device"
I did Wipe Google Wallet from within the app, and after which i went back to google wallet and it's stuck there.
Stays the same after reflashing 4.0.4.

Secure Element Prevention?

Okay, so I've become increasingly paranoid of the SE error that's been plauging various Nexus's over the internet. What I can gather from these is that the phone was either:
1.Not properly wiped between ROMs
2.They tried restoring Google Wallet from a backup
3.They flashed the App from the ZIP/APK (Unofficial)
4.They used a preinstalled version of Google Wallet on the flashed ROM
So, now that we can officially install Google Wallet from the Market, do you think that it should be safe to switch between ROMs? I used Google Wallet on my first GNex and it's been one of the best parts about this phone. I would really not like to lose this functionality on a device I dropped $600 on...
Yeah, thing is when you "reset" wallet to flash a new rom it locks you out of prepaid. Some chuckle-head with creative fear mongering has got the bloggers excited over some security crap. If I lost my device I would be more worried about my device that the Happy Meal they could buy at McDonalds with my prepaid card!

If you get the "secure element is not responding" error you're dine with Google wallet until you get a new phone. I'm in that position and that's what Google and Samsung told me

[Q][Oddball] Google Wallet Can't Add Prepaid

Hello
I recently got my Galaxy Nexus and I am trying to use Google Wallet but running into a problem I haven't seen yet (A search revealed 1 other person with the problem but was able to resolve by wiping data from the app. This didn't work for me.)
I am running 4.0.4 AKOP build 29. I am unlocked and rooted. Wallet version 1.1-R52v7.
The app installs just fine. I have it linked to my google account. However, I cannot add a Google Prepaid card. It attempts to add for ~ 1min, then says, "Error adding card. Try again later."
I tried uninstalling / reinstalling. I tried the previous version. I also tried wiping the data from the app itself. Nothing has worked so far
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone? I'm very anxious to use GWallet!
You need to use a US credit card. View the adding funds thread for instructions that usually work.
Google wallet won't work if your rooted. Very disappointing.

I am located in the US. I also don't have the option to add funds because it will not allow me to add a prepaid card.

I have this banner. I simply used superSU to get rid of it, so the phone it thinks it does not have root. However, with/without superSU it still does not allow me to add a prepaid card
Can anyone else shed some light on this?
Anyone? I'm so close I can feel it!
Mine does the same. Idk wtf is going on. It worked before on my other nexus.

So I called Google, they connected me to the money network. Guy took a quick look. It is something on their end nothing to do with my phone. He can see my IMEI trying to activate but erroring out.Was escalated to T2 tech support and I am waiting on a phone call back.
They called me back. Had me reset the app. Still nothing worked. This has been escalated now to T3 tech support. I was told I would get a call back tomorrow :-/
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Did u reset the app before you wiped data sounds like you didn't and have been locked out. If so you will need a new phone

Just out of curiosity, has your IMEI number maybe reverted to Samsung's default number?
Reason I ask is because that happened to me while using my Nexus S and I had the same issue you're having.

I'm also experiencing this issue. So frustrating! I used to have Wallet on my phone...but I tried to reset it to get the extra $5 and haven't been able to get it back up and running since. That's what I get for being greedy!
If anyone has any ideas...it would be greatly appreciated. I've done almost everything: reset app, clear cache, uninstalled, installed older versions....cant get it for the life of me!

What do you mean Samsung's default number? I have came to the general conclusion that it something to do with the Money Network. They are blocking my phone, my IMEI, from connecting. I was able to login with my Google account on another phone just perfectly and get my prepaid card.

A while back I flashed a ROM to my Nexus S that corrupted my nv_data.bin file which in turn changed my original IMEI to Samsung's generic's. (004999010640000)
After that happened I was unable to re-use Wallet because Money Network's service will not allow that IMEI to work in their system, for obvious reasons.
Check the IMEI on your phone's back cover or box and compare it to the one in your Android's system. Hopefully they match. There's no solutions for the Nexus S currently. You'd have to send it back to Samsung. Good luck.
This happened to me even after Google fixed the provisioning of the Prepaid Card. I just kept Removing and Adding the Card. Eventually, after a couple of days it fixed itself. Try Resetting the App, Deleting Data, uninstalling, and then re-installing.
Money network finally got it working for me. I believe they did a master reset. It now works

[Q] NFC Question

So I saw on DL today that if you wipe your phone, your NFC stops working? Did I read that correctly? I just got my (VZW) nexus yesterday and as soon as I got home I rooted and wiped and ROMed it. I didn't install Google wallet prior to wiping and I still haven't installed it. Did I screw up my NFC?
Thanks
I read that today too after already rooting and throwing on a rom. I had been meaning to set up wallet but hadn't yet. So when I saw that I figured I'd give it a shot and see if it works. It did and I got my free $10 credit.

I wonder this too. It would seem to me that if you never setup wallet in the first place, there's no reason the secure element could be disabled (for lack of a better phrase). But since I have had this phone long, I'm not sure.
But I did root -> wipe -> install AOKP and wallet didn't complain, but after flashing a new kernel, I got an unsupported device warning.

The suggested practice for doing a wipe is to go to the Wallet App- Settings- reset Wallet. Then do your wipe or flash as usual.
Haven't tested it either way. Just passing along useful info.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
If you have setup google wallet and then wipe and flash a new rom there is the possibility of killing your secure element. It is suggested to reset wallet within the wallet app before wiping and flashing a new rom.
There is a huge thread in the galaxy apps forum that is usually within the first few pages.
A simple wipe will not affect NFC.

Wiping does not ruin your NFC. What these articles were talking about is wiping and flashing a new ROM without first de-authorizing your Google Wallet app/account. Its a security measure that once the phone has been wiped w/o first de-activating it won't respond to Google Wallet anymore.
Just de-authorize your Google Wallet app before wiping and switching ROMs and you're fine.
I really wish people would understand the difference between NFC, which is the connection standard and radio in your phone to initiate data transfers... and Google Wallet, which is just an app that uses NFC to make mobile payments.

From what I can tell you should be fine, I did a factory reset right after I got my Galaxy Nexus never having set up Wallet at the time and from what i can tell nothing went rotten on me i.e. no errors when I launch Google wallet. Haven't tried to make a payment though which I should do soon apparently there's a 2 dollar a month upkeep fee on the Google prepaid card if you don't touch it for a 30 day period running on a tangent now, cheers!

Wallet issue

So I'm having trouble getting Wallet setup on my Galaxy Nexus...works fine on my Nexus 7.
I can setup the app, but when it says 'setup required' under the card, it always fails to add card. See attached photo.
I've tried resetting the wallet app. I've restored to stock, flashed factory images. I'm unrooted. Can seem to get this fixed. Any advice?

GSM should be supported despite what they said.
Beamed from Maguro
I use it on unlocked GSM on T-Mobile.
Right! I know. So I'm getting this error I posted about whenever I try to setup. Makes NO sense whatsoever. I've reset my phone like 10 times and doesn't work. Tried adding different cards, etc. Tried to setup without my sim card inserted even! Still no go.
just set mine up. GSM unlocked phone from google. Unsupported Device Policy message on top of screen during set up. Set up went ok, it picked up my card number automatically. "Learn more" next to unsupported device msg linked to message:
"Some users may disable important security mechanisms in order to gain system-level "root" access to their device. We strongly discourage doing so if you plan to use Google Wallet. We are unable to support devices with unatuhorized operating systems as the security layers of the device may be limited."
After setup it starts and appears to be functioning, but nothing to try it on. Still has the unsupported device msg also.
Unlocked and rooted my phone, running stock 4.1.
So some of you have actually made purchases with wallet? I have tried at different stores like Best Buy and Home Depot and it connects, but won't let me make my purchase. I have that $50 from buying the phone I need to spend, but can't get it to work anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions?
Me too, on Sprint rooted phone

I think the Wallet guys have no clue what they are doing, support-wise. It's a massive fail imo
Just installed Wallet on my unlocked, rooted Galaxy Nexus. Everything went fine. Credit card added with no problem. Says I'm all set up, but haven't used it yet. I get the "Unsupported device" message but I'll believe that if and when it fails. Note that if you have certain parts of Google apps frozen, uninstalled, or blocked with a firewall, Wallet won't install. PS: Take anything a sales rep says with a grain of salt.

(Google Wallet) Tap & Pay Setup Failed

help Tap & Pay Setup Failed i reinstalled and contacted Google about iSSUE.. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF FIX?
So if within the Wallet app you goto "Settings" then "About" does it say "Tap and pay" "NfcPaymentSetupFailure: 11"?
If so, there are a number of people having that issue including me. I've filed tickets with Google but haven't gotten any solutions yet.
Wallet used to work for my device however a couple months back it stopped and the NFC part never started working again.
It says UNAVAILABLE (NFCPAYMENTSETUPFAILURE:1)
Mine says the same message. It means youre locked out from the secure element. You will never have tap and pay on that phone.
The only solution is to bring it to sprint, show them the problem, and tell them your secure element is broken.
Uninstall wallet updates and the message will day "secure element not responding E00"

Is this confirmed? Because Google Wallet support has stated nothing of this sort to me is my correspondence with them. Granted, I they did not ask about the info on the "About" screen, but I've been back and forth with them quite a bit and it's never come up.
Strange, because Wallet worked just prior to the last official update for me. No other changes -- did not change ROM, recovery, or anything else.

There's nothing quite like Google Wallet, but there a number of other mobile payment apps available -- Level Up, Wallet (Pay with Square), Paypal mobile app -- each had a relatively small install base as far as merchants go. Most merchants that use these services seem to be smaller cafés, etc.

I think my next step would be to wipe the phone and start from scratch to see if that will work...
Like I stated code 1 is the secured element locking you out. The damn thing id buggy and some people have had it lock them for no reason.
Mine happened because I factory reset before ckearing the data from wallet.

I got this with the new update. I reset the app, rolled back updates, set it up and then upgraded and am fine.
Ha! I never had an issue setting it up after the new change. Everything went through fine, however using it yesterday my transaction failed. Reason it said it failed was because tap n pay wasn't set up nor was there a card selected. Stupid thing is the app shows tap n pay is set up n I do have a card selected. Never had an issue on the old wallet..

I was worried, tap-n-pay wouldn't set up earlier, couldn't use wallet at a store wh n it had worked previously on this install of this rom. (synergy) After reading this thread, I checked and I got the code 11 thing, thought maybe I was f*cked with the secure element. But a quick clear data/cache and a force stop, restart the app, all seems fine. Says I'm ready to tap-n-pay. Cool.

I started getting this after 4.3 upgrade
I am going to attempt a fix file I used a while back I think for S3 I had but it is labelled JBWALLETFIX so it might work or help. I shall let yall know what comes of this. It worked for a long while and then a few days ago when I did the 4.3 update....I get this error. I called and escalated a ticket with Google but doubt they care. More to come. If the zip works I will post it.
Success....Apply this....Fixed!
Apply this zip in recovery and it fixes the problem. I think perhaps there may be some weird issue with updates they did recently and being rooted because the lady asked me "are you rooted?" and I lied and said NO I think some apps do look at root but wtf is with the OS all of a sudden breaking if I give it SU access? I did Unix admin and that should not occur at all. Simply gives a person access to system files. Sure if you delete something essential...you bork it. Anyhow here is the file
