Line in polycarbonate - HTC One X

I have just notice that my One X has a line on the left hand corner in the polycarbonate, seems too straight to be a scratch.
Has anyone else had this? not sure its worth exchanging over as this one seems allot better than my last one.

Had one in the left and right corner both exactly the same. One of the reasons I sent my One X back for the second time, looked like it would eventually chip or something.
Oh well.... Galaxy Note it is. Will keep me going till next August atleast.

Got my case mate tough coming tomorrow, not sure if I want the hassle of exchanging it if it's not gonna cause any major issues.

i have it a straight line in the left glossy corner, nothing there to chip its a solid piece of poly-carbonate, seems part of the production process so its not a reason to return it

My device has no line, but my another problem was fitts this thread pretty good.
The normal blunt surface is going to be shiny/greasylooking mostly on the frontside.
Anyone else?

think of it like a scar across someone's face. it makes it look AWESOME!

I have a very small line in the top left corner of the glossy bevel. You can only really see it from a certain angle.
I guess its a leftover from the moulding process or whatever.
Its too faint to bother me

I have quite a few lines. On my forehead. All from stress. About whether my One X battery will run out before I get to the charger.

It's pretty faint on mine too so it seams to affect other people's too. Don't think ill return it for what it is.

Screen gap

I read about screem gap but i was unsure what exactly was meant. I just took a closer look and found out that there is a tiny gap between my screen and phone on top in which dirt fills in and it pisses me off. I havent dropped my screen once and if i push the top left part of my phone i can hear a sort of "click".does that make my phone faulty? Im really annoyed vy the dirt that fills in... Apart from rhat phone has no problems.

send it back. that is what i am doing. left hand side of the phone between the screen and the plastic you can see dust getting inside there to. plus if you press the left hand side tad hard you can hear it creaking as well. i called HTC to see if they could replace it for me straight away without sending it for repairs..waiting for an outcome tomorrow...if they say no i will just send it for repairs and hope they find the problem and either fix it or replace it then...i know it will drag for a week but at least that way you know one way or the other it will get fixed...
i was going to say if it does not bug you then leave it..but you sound just like me that even though the phone works fine it will bug you cause you know it is there
should i go to my provider or directly cpntact htc? And just to understand it better. Gaps are not supposed to be there, am i right?

Dont replace it as you have no other problems. Go to HTC repair center and just fix it. If you replace there may be a chance of getting more faultier one.

It amazes me some of the reasons people will find to return an otherwise perfect handset. Considering the amount of serious problems floating about this phone, I don't think a creak or 1mm gap between the bezel and screen constitutes a return. Get over it and enjoy the phone.

Ive heard that the one x was made in 2 different countrys taiwan and china... china being the worst built ones buttt I must have a really faulty dhd. I've had it for 10 months now and my screen moves, doesn't fit right on the phone as there should be a lip round it but isn't my speaker isn't straight so is sloping. Looks like the cnc machine hasn't cut it right. Power button is really recessed too far in..... I think a little sqweek is nothing to really worry about if the screen falls out then ya I'd send it back.

well that is what worries me about the whole damn thing..if it gets to hot to soon and in two months down the line the screen actually does fall out
TBH ive just checked mine and it does have a slight gap with lint building up already (bare in mind ive had this phone 2 days) Also have the yellow blotch on the screen AND a dead pixel. This is by far the best phone ive ever owned...But my word these little niggles are grating on my moobs! Ive never had to send a phone off to a repair centre before but im not really willing to put up with the problems the phone has (however ridiculously small they seem to some ) You expect some software issues in an early batch, but dead pixels, discoloured screens, gaps occuring out of nowhere between the screen, its a bit much really! Im gunna have to get it sent off soon i think, gutted!

Do you even realize how big 1mm is?!!!! Get a ruler and see please....
I doubt even a blind person could enjoy a phone with a gap big as that. You would not just see this, but also feel.
I have a gap that's about 0,1-2 mm big (measuring with paper, which is about that in average I think 0,1 till 0,3 I think but also not sure) and its around the whole screen on both sides of the ring.
Ugh...1mm...
But seriously guys, how big are the gaps it makes you return it?
I mean should I return it with 0,1 mm ? (maybe less) seen a bigger gap on SGS 2.

Build quality issues....scratched bezel

So fresh out of the box, the bezel on my Note 2 is a bit scratched, like someone took a fine blade and scraped into the inside of the bezel in a few spots. You can see it to the right of the button and in the corner. Kind of annoying. Anyone else seeing anything like this?
Absolutely not to be honest. Sorry.

Sent from the second version of a hefty "Note" pad.
Oly XZ1. $200 on Amazon right now. I highly suggest picking one up. Those aren't even my best effort. I took some pics of surgeries today that put my Powershot S100 to shame. f/1.8-2.5 with a real nice sensor. If you don't care about movies on it, it's tough to go wrong.
I have two knicks on my pwr button. Methinks they reused a refurb button from an s3 or something.

You can run your finger along the inside edge of the bezel and feel the scrapes. It's nitpicky, I know. But for $300, I want a pristine device that'll sit in a case with a screen protector. Yeah, Imight get a ding down the road, but I want the new car smell for as long as I can. I reuploaded the pictures and circled the areas. There's about 3 or 4 areas like that on the phone.
Same on my phone.
I thought it was only me!
Same here. Maybe it was just a handling issue for some scattered ones. Just a bit bummed as my original was overnighted, but now I have to wait 3-4 days. I'm not using it since I don't have a case and don't want to take a chance on it getting damaged somehow to where they think I did something to the phone. So I'm back on the S3. And MyBackupPro worked well for just backing up all my apps, SMS and logs and just restoring onto the Note. So that's a little comforting moving forward.

I already have the return kit coming. Unfortunately, Sandy will probably cause it to be delayed.
Just got back from exchanging mine due to major imperfections in display and minor scratching on bezel.
On display the brushed grey color applied was not lined up thus making viewing area look crooked , Left side had 1/8 + inch / right side had less then 1/16 inch reveal.
Picture below is how its supposed to look which my 1st looked nothing like.
Also menu button light transparency was hindered creating jagged look due to brushed grey color not having clean lines < Very annoying to say the least , When soft key lights turned on it became my focus.
Basically the display was a mess not worthy of 225.00 contract buyout / 300.00 device cost so I had no choice but to attempt swap.
Bezel had minor nicks nothing major but could be seen.
Display units had same thing going on but not as bad so my chance of successful exchange were pretty slim but thanks to a very nice sprint store rep exchange was allowed.
She had not units in stock but let me know when they arrived one would be held for me.
An hour later I get the call swap took place and I'm now typing on perfection thanks to Sprint store rep Lisa.

How long to wait?

I have a 32GB reserved at Best Buy for pickup today. I have an original n7 32 that I got back in December, and this one is going to replace it. I was actually already planning on selling it, because the light bleed and lag drives me nuts. I was thinking of canceling the Best Buy order and waiting, because I have seen a disturbing number of early build issue type posts. Question is, how long should I wait for the first run issues to be worked out before buying? When I bought mine in December, I expected those issues to be worked out, but I went through three before hitting on one that did not have screen lift issues.

Got my 32gb on friday at best buy. No hardware issues/defects/issues. You'd have to wait maybe a month for section shipments.
Mostly it depends on the stock ordered by those sites and stores. When they run out of stock, then only will they replace their stock. It only depends on how much the stock is recycled, given the amount of people returning their device due a "single dead pixel" or a lil bit of "light leak"...
I suggest wait for a bit, like 2-3 months for the first batch to run out, then give it a shot.
Best buy says 30-60 days is next order

Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Just to update, I went ahead and picked it up. Figure that I can always return it if it has problems. Unfortunately, I'm going to need to return it. There are three problems that I saw right off.
1. There is a bright spot on the screen that's visible to the eye. If displaying white, the bright spot is brighter white, when displaying blue, it's brighter blue, etc...
2. There is a speck of dust under the screen, about half an inch below the bright spot.
3. It creaks pretty badly when held on the right side, near the bottom. So basically, when holding it in portrait mode.
Of these four issues, only the first issue is a deal breaker for me. The spot is large enough that it is noticeable when looking at the screen. It is more obvious when looking at a lighter color like white or light grey, but it is visible with all colors. I'm not sure how these screens are put together, so this might be completely off. It looks like there's some kind of film or something, and in the brighter area, it looks like it is a little thinner. The only reason that I noticed the spec of dust was because I was looking at the white spot under a magnifying glass, to see if I could figure out what it was. The spec of dust is not visible, even while wearing my strongest glasses. The creaking comes and goes. I'm guessing that with time, it would disappear entirely. And I do plan on having it in a case, so it really wouldn't matter. One thing that seems apparent while comparing the two, at least to me, is that the original model was more solidly built. Not that the new one seems cheap, because it doesn't. But it just doesn't seem as solid. Of course I did have to go through three original N7s before I found one that didn't have screen lift.
The screen itself (once looking past the white spot) is amazing! I have had a number of iPads and I have my current N7 and a Kindle Fire (original), and I have NEVER seen a screen that is so even. One of my primary complaints with my original N7 is that the screen is ever so yellowish along the right side of the screen. It is distracting enough when reading on the Kindle app that I set the background color to Sepia to overcome it. And not only is it very even, but the resolution is unlike anything that I've ever seen on something this small. The text on Kindle books is crisp and easily readable. On my original N7, I can see pixels. Though not nearly as bad as the Kindle Fire. Also, the white is more pleasing to the eye than the white on the original N7 was. I know that this is a subjective thing. Where my old N7 had a slightly reddish tint to the white, the new one doesn't have that. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it. But I think that it looks much nicer. The new N7 is also much brighter than the original. I'd say about 30% brighter.
And it's definitely fast. I wasn't really happy with my orignal N7, because of the issues that it has with light bleeding. But now it also seems really slow. I'm not sure how to fix that. Maybe a new ROM is in order.
Unfortunately, I can't keep one with a bright spot like this one has, so back it goes. Perhaps I'll take the advice given above, and give it a few months and try again.
One of the ways that I sold my wife on the original N7 was by saying that it would keep getting Android updates. I guess I accidentally lied about that. 4.2.2 appears to be as high as the original N7 will go, at least without a custom ROM.
Well what rotten luck for you. I haven't any of these Problem fortunately. Hope you get it fixed

That's probably gonna depend on the sales rep. Some will probably think you're too picky or they will understand and give you another. Also I assume they would lose sale on the other since it's been opened. But it's always worth a try. If you return it for a refund they would lose a sale as well. Good luck.

Gap around the glass has been mentioned on here before. Expansion and contraction prevents glass cracking according to another forum member. My home button is good. With all these manufacturers tolerances I'm hesitant to swap units as the next one may have another quirk that I won't be able to live with. Cue my old Galaxy S4. Verticle lines down screen noticeable on grey backgrounds in low light. Swapped that unit 2 times. 3rd unit was same. However wife's s4 was perfect.

Something that, as a phone tech, I feel the need to explain- it is NORMAL for buttons to wiggle. It is NOT a defect and NOT a reason to exchange the device. You are not going to find one that doesn't have at least some degree of movement, just due to the way these phones are constructed. The button itself is just a little piece of plastic & silicone that is aligned with the hole in the screen before the whole unit is assembled. It is not actually attached to anything, it is free-floating inbetween the digitizer and the board underneath. Even if you manage to get one that doesn't wiggle, it will eventually start to wiggle the more you use it as the materials relax.
I agree. But I think the problem is the hole is bigger than it should be so the buttons have a lot of room too move around compared to the s4. Thats just how it is on this phone. Take it or leave it. The glass is a different story as it can be off centered when put on.

Screen not assembled flush?

Anyone else have a problem with the screen not being assembled correctly?
If I swipe down from the top left for notifications, it's smooth going from the metal to the glass. But if I swipe down from the top right to do the quick settings, there's a noticeable gap. Or not really gap, but the screen sits higher than the metal. Friggin annoying as hell, considering how much I go to the quick settings. This and the notification light not working are already making me reconsider buying this thing....
I had that issue and T-Mobile gave me a new one. Manufacturered 4/9. I've yet tried to S-OFF.

I've returned two to T-Mobile for the same problem and a few other issues. The 3rd one I got is much better, still not 100%, but it's fine... At this early point in the game, I'm starting to think that you have to be super lucky to get one that is perfectly smooth and flush.
I have seen some people say that a screen protector will solve the problem or at least make it better, could always try that.
I know that with every first batch or so of a new device, there will be some duds... but man, seems more people than usual having issues related to build quality on this phone. It's an expensive device and HTC is marketing it as a "premium" device - if you're not happy with the build, by all means, go exchange it.
mine had the same problem. I did exchange it for a new one it's a little better. but now I know why samsung don't want to make a metal device.
Wow, I wonder how many people have this problem...
Like @aimfire72 said, with this being touted as a premium device with the whole "zero gap" design, you'd expect it to be assembled a little better... I'll probably be taking it back to T-Mobile tomorrow and hopefully the one I get is better.
I feel like I have been lucky. I have had no issues with the screen or speakers.

My speaker grills are maybe MAYBE a human hairs width higher than the screen. We wound up with 4 lines, and all got the m8, and some of the other ones have more noticeable differences in height, but none of the other people using them have said anything, and I don't think they really care. I think that's something we often lose sight of, is that for most people that's just something they don't even think of. Sure, it would be nice if it was perfect on every device, but as long as it's within tolerance and the grills aren't popping up like some people have had, most people won't probably notice or care.
In any case, compared to my M7, the height difference is MUCH improved. My screen was decently higher than the top speaker grill, and that annoyed me as I always felt it when I swiped down the notification bar, but I got used to it and with a screen protector it just blended in to that bump.
