ICS OTA update? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I'm new to the tablet game but have been rooting and installing custom roms on my Android phones for some time now. My question is will I automatically get the ICS OTA or do I have to downgrade to Gen 1. I'm currently running:
Android 3.2
Kernel 2.6.36.3
Build number Acer_A100_1.018.05_COM_GEN2
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Good question. I had a Gen 2 running 3.2 also, and I was NEVER able to get a single thing OTA.(no update from 12/11-4/12 then I gave up) I called Acer and they suggested I send my device in so they could update it. After a while I just started using the leaks. Cool device, well priced, but they are lame about firmware.
Also if you want to upgrade you can without going to Gen1. At least I did. I went from 3.2 Gen2 directly to ICS .012 then to FlexReaper which is now based on the current ICS

My a100 just went thru the gen2 and ICS upgrades in about a half hour...It's rooted but had the out of the box rom before this evening.

Yea some people have gotten them on Gen2. But Gen2 has always seemed to have issues getting updates. low priority maybe

my A100 is exactly like yours, running:
Android 3.2
Kernel 2.6.36.3
Build number Acer_A100_1.018.05_COM_GEN2
I didn't do ROM flashing, the only thing I did is root. I haven't got OTA either. Anyone know what's happening?

I have gen2 3.2.1 and I haven't received mine either. I know that someone else who has the same version received his update already. So I don't know what's going on.

No ICS as of yet..
I own A100 from 11/11, I never got any OTA updates.. till date..
I thought ICS is the first OTA for A100 with 3.2......are there other updates I should hv gotten???

Mine is running 3.2.1 Acer_A100_2.008.03_PA_CA and all mine keeps saying is the system is up to date. Mine is also a gen2. I was running ICS leak .014 and went.back to HC.

I got mine about a month ago, it was a GEN 2 as well, I forget what exact build number it as, but on the 27th I got the scheduled ICS update at about 3am, are that many GEN2 roms not getting it?

It seems to be mostly GEN2 3.2 owners that are having the issue (perhaps from that monster Black Friday deal they had? That's when the wife got mine for me).
As a previous poster said, I got sick of never seeing updates, and started using the updates from here. I went to the RC03 ICS update last night after getting sick of waiting. I'll mess around a bit more with it this morning, and see if I can get it to OTA. Got a buncha stock ROMs downloaded, and a spare micro-SD that I don't mind formatting over and over. ;-)

Good point about the black Friday deal, that is when I got mine...anyone else get theirs on black Friday having the same issue?

Ok, downgraded from the RC03 ICS update to the baseline GEN1 that Vache posted. No OTA update, checking for updates resulted in "Poor Network coverage" (I'm in the room with my wireless router, browser/market work fine).
Then went up to 2.007.01 GEN2 update, same thing.
Now on 2.007.04 GEN1, and getting the same thing. Thinking i either borked the radio somehow, or that Acers update servers are down.

I getting the same message too, just checked. So your right it's probably their servers. Yyou just got thanked, button is not in a good place.

On gen2.
No update, and network coverage is poor,so wont allow to check for update.
Hopefully its server side problem.

My A100 is exact same version as yours and I got it on black Friday too... i never got a single ota till date... can't believe the batch they sold on sale would hv issues or lower priority...
In Acer forums there are lot of folks with the same story... gen2, with 3.2 and got around black Friday sale... many of them gave up and went with leaked official version...
Some contacted Acer support and they were told Gen 2 with 3.2 is scheduled to get updates late Friday and it may go up this Mon/Tuesday.
As of now I get network error if I check for updates.. I guess Acer servers are either down or overwhelmed ....
I will wait till tuesday .. and take my chance with leaked officlal version... there a lots of helpful folks in xda... I guess I'll be fine...

Acer A100 OTA update error
I am also receiving the Poor Network coverage message and my router is located in the room with me as well so I thought there was something wrong with my internet connection so reset everything and still received the Poor Network coverage then started doing some digging and found this tread. I am on the ICS .14 leak. Thank you all for your post.

Why does it matter to get the OTA? Its the same ROM as the one in our dev section just install that.

Stuck on 4.0.1 and somewhat confused

So I just bought the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus. It is yakju and I am using it with AT&T. No matter how many times I've tried I cannot get the phone to do an OTA update to at least 4.0.2, let alone 4.0.4. So I have a couple questions, keeping in mind that I am not particularly interested in rooting and would rather just do an OTA update.
1. Will the 4.0.2 update eventually come through if I wait? I don't mind waiting, but I don't want to wait indefinitely without making any progress.
2. If I do want to or need to do a manual update, can I go straight from 4.0.1 to 4.0.4?
Like I said, I would prefer to wait for the OTA update as I'm having no issues with 4.0.1 right now.
On a completely unrelated note, I have 14 days to return this phone. If you were me, would you return it and wait for the One X. I like the idea of having a raw android Google phone, but the One X seems attractive.
I think you should get an iphone.
iphone. helping computer illiteracy become popular since 2007.
I received my Nexus about a week ago. Within 5 minutes of turning it on I received the 4.02 OTA update. 10 minutes later I was rooted and running CM9 so I can't say if I would have received the 4.04 OTA update.

There are already lots of spammy nerd bashing threads on this topic. No one can make this decision for you.
You have a few options....
1. Download Factory images for 4.0.4 from Google and use Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to flash (you will lose all your data and pictures, videos, music)
2. Root your phone (you'll still lose your data because you have to unlock your bootloader)
3. Wait for the 4.0.2 update than the 4.0.4 update
Your choice
When you get the HTC One X you gonna be saying how much you wish you had AOSP

I guess were both on the same boat Except i am on Tmobile. As soon as i unboxed and setup my Gnex this past friday i was expecting an OTA update to 4.0.4. But appearantly that wasn't the case as i am still stuck on 4.0.1 two days later. I am really hoping i get that OTA soon...there is no way i am rooting ever again. My last phone which was a Samsung Vibrant had a custom ICS rom...everything was well until i was greeted by the deadly "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen not knowing what to do i hit reset phone. 1 min later my phones only use was as a door stop.
I know this may sound kind of silly but maybe we haven't received our updates because its the weekend . Im waiting till monday to see if i get the OTA update. Hopefully it arrives soon.

Now that I see other people having this problem, I think OTA updates for 100% stock Android 4.0.1 Samsung i9250 Galaxy Nexus are just not happening at all for now... (verbiage/garbiage deleted
As for my Nexus One(s)... (I'll just say I never saw this happen)
EDIT:
At about 8pm MDT (GMT-06:00) in the US, my i9250 finally updated from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4. I consider this an important validation of the integrity of my device. Earlier today I flashed 4.0.2 but still had to wait.
So clearly there was a period of days (March 30 to April 2 at least) that OTA updates where not happening for the i9250. This was alarming because I've rolled my i9250 back to 100% stock Android 4.0.1 several times after playing with different ROMs. Each time it quickly updated to 4.0.2. This time it took a few days. For a while I was worried my phone had a problem.
I just rolled back to a stock ROM 4 days ago.
But did only get 1 OTA update immediately after first boot. The one from ITL41D to ITL41F (4.0.1).
No OTA to 4.0.2 or even 4.0.4 yet. (All imgs are stock ITL41F with locked bootloader of course)

[Q] "Your device is up to date" error. Anyone know what the heck is going on?
So here it is, four days after the ICS update was "released" and I still have not gotten an update. My A100 used to give the "network coverage is currently poor" message when checking for updates. Acer acknowledged this error, and now my device says "your device is up to date". It obviously is not. Has ANYONE heard anything from the ghost town that is Acer's support? I just feel like I'm being left out and Acer couldn't care less. They need to make a statement about this.. Or maybe they have and I missed it somehow. Anyway, could someone please offer some Insight?
Or at least, it would be (oddly) comforting to know that other people are experiencing this.
Misery loves company. My A100 is also "up to date" still on Honeycomb. At least there is hope, my phone will never get ICS (Galaxy S 4G)
have you guys flashed a rom to it? or is it stock?
Im just stock, trying to do it by the books, although acers proverbial book appears to be written in latin.

ICS update
I flashed to the leaked version of ICS about a month ago. I also get the "Device is up to date" message when I try to update. Is there something I need to do since I have the leaked, unofficial release on my tab?
I am in the "I am running Stock, never even rooted the thing, and still no ICS update" boat.
Though in fairness the Acer support page says the rollout is in stages and that it would take a full week for the rollout to be complete. I am not going to officially panic until next Monday (May 7th).
truthfully it is very easy to just flash the new stock ROM. I would just go that route and if you flashed a prereleased ROM. I don't believe you will get an update. Just make sure that you put it in the correct place is the biggest mistake.
Am I the only one who's just running 3.2 ? I did a factory reset and it went back to 3.2, where as before I had 3.2.1
weird
GEN2 & PA_CA owners
Folks,
You are not alone. Many A100s aren't receiving ICS.. Mostly GEN2 with 3.2 build doesn't get any updates from Acer...same for some PA_CA builds..
Acer asked some of the GEN2s to be shipped for a manual update.. but they are not openly admitting the issue with GEN2 builds..
You have two options.
1. If you prefer to get the ICS from Acer, Flash your device to GEN1-3.2.1 and you will get the ICS update. I used this method and my A100 is on ICS now. Refer the Page 3, Post 25+ on the below thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623543&page=3
2. You can also directly Flash to Leaked final ICS from acer... below thread has all of them. go for 012 ICS.

Yep no doubt. I was flat out told by Acer they have had issues with pushing OTA updates to some Gen2, and asked me to ship my A100 in to have it updated...right... So I used the leaks, and now Im on FlexReaper no regrets.
I like my tablet nice hardware for the price IMO, but the firmware support from Acer sucks big sweaty donkey balls.
Make sure that your Version is 3.2.1 and not 3.2.1+ like I had. I flashed the update I got from acertablet forums, which I think they found it here, and I then had 3.2.1 and then 2 updates later I am running 4.0.3.
I shouldn't have to do any of that S***. I'm probably just going to sell this thing, because acer is filled with a-holes. GTFO Acer.
This really is embarassing on Acer's part. I was excited to get ICS but the A100 is not my primary tablet and I don't really feel like bothering with flashing it myself. We've gotten OTA updates before with no problem, why can't they make this one work?
Thanks XDA!
I too have been trying to do the official update on my generation 2 stock unrooted or modified A100. A couple of days ago I got the 3.2.1 update but nothing else. I kept going to settings checking for the update and it always came back with the software up to date message. Today I got so fed up with it that I reverted back to pre-update 3.2 by following a thread in this forum and re-ran the update check...Bingo! it updated twice. Now I have a smooth running ICS A100. Don't wait for Acer! Something is wrong with the way this Tablet checks for the update!
Just got the update!!!!!! ..for 3.2.1...............
hope ICS is to follow.

I just got the update of OTA ICS after 3 updates, and I was on Android 3.2.1 gen2.

Just installed Jelly 4.1.2 on Nexus S device last night. I'm posting here to provide my experience. This phone is running like a new, better device. It is using half, HALF the sys memory than before. So far just sweet goodness. I recommend this update to all. Absolutely no problems thus far. I've tried things it didn't like in the past and it just keeps chugging along. I swear, EveryThing is faster. Will test batt life today when I go out, then report. This is only a .01 update! WOW! Thank you Google. Thank you T-Mobile. F'in awesome job. That is all.

tofmiller... Very Slight exaggeration : )
I understand. This thing has what 334mb avail for apps to RUN not store. Before OTA update, was using task managers and restarts to keep around 50-70 mb free. After update, without intervention, phone says around 100 mb free. I exaggerated a bit but not that much. I find, also, the system keeps things freed up. I have not killed any apps or cleared cache since I got the OTA last night. I got the update in the afternoon then went to my 27" iMac to try to get a feel of how well things were going for others.Things looked sort of OK, but not much info so I decided to pull the trigger last night around 8pm Pacific. Proceeded to run it ragged. Streaming movies to my Mac via Wi-Fi, no problem. Played the only 3 games I have installed right now, no problem. Checked mem, 92 mb free! Made sure all apps were not running, only Skifta. It's been over 12 hours, no prob.
So, for me, this old dog got a shot of steroids. I'm thinking this will probably be last u/d for this device.(but that's what I thought about 4.1.1). If some app devs stay cool, don't think I'll get new device 'till after my contract fully expires. Was thinking about upgrading handset at earliest time. Couple months before end. Now... i can get better deal from carrier. Or jump ship to Big Red. Just wanted to put some helpful info out there because it looked like most people were side-loading this thing.

I thought the manual flash from the website wipes your data.
Mr. ruggersvpunk ? I can't believe i'm gonna say this....
Hello ruggervpunk ?
I'm usually (or used to be) quite impatient about these sort of things. I've been using a Mac since 1986(not the same one : ) and had to have the latest greatest thing. Over time I've learned a tiny bit of patience. I've found in almost every case it's best to wait a bit.. Smarter to let those without some restraint be the guinea pigs. This has saved my ass in recent years. So, I guess I would advise you to wait for the OTA. Things can go wrong when loading from a website. I've done it(with my wife's phone) and once I thought i bricked it. If not for the Grace of God and this site, it would still be in that state.
So sir? Try to wait. 1 it's totally worth it , I don't know who your carrier is but if you've received an OTA before, you'll get it again. Just got mine yesterday from T-MOBILE. So far, everything works better. Much better than an unexpected .01 update. This has done as much or more in performance than 4.0.4 to 4.1.1. Really. Give it a couple of days. Good things come to those who wait. That's just a guy in S.F. who loves gadgets advice.
Good Luck
Richard
It rolls out in phases. The factory image will wipe data. But there is a cwm file that updates boot and system. Its essentially the ota except larger since its the entire system.

So far, everything works better. Much better than an unexpected .01 update. This has done as much or more in performance than 4.0.4 to 4.1.1. Really. Give it a couple of days. Good things come to those who wait. That's just a guy in S.F. who loves gadgets advice.
Good Luck

Go figure, I sent that on the way to the gym, and when I just got home now, the OTA came.
Thanks!

11/6 System update

Hey there was a system update for the GS2 on sprint. I think it waz 1F27 or something maybe if27. Any way it showed the android update guy but the phone is still running 4.0.4. The phone is completely stock and not rooted. This update came OTA a little after 4:30am EST.
That'd be FI27, its been available 'round here for quite a while and is currently the latest ICS build available from Sprint. We're all waiting around for another JB leak/release
does it help with battery life?
Oh ok. I thought it must have been too soon for JB without having a specifc announcement or leak.
