[DICSUSSION] Causes and Solution of the Huge Games (Gameloft) Crashes / MTP DATA BUG? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Why this thread
I am with AOKPb34, franco r143, and NO USB fast charge nor undervolting.
Recently, I have downloaded Dungeon Hunter 3 (1.0.8 latest), ran on my phone, downloaded the game data, continue, but! then I couldnt go pass the gameloft icon and the game went back out to the homescreen. I was sad, and uninstalled it just then. More recently, I have also installed Asphalt 6: Adrenaline HD (1.3.3 latest) too, and however, after all the successful game data downloads, and after license check, it crashed!!
This time, I am not believing that my phone can not hold such huge games, therefore I dug into the issue and went address what the root problem of these crashes is.
The problem
And there comes my conclusion of such an issue - The "downloaded game data" (should be existing on the /sdcard/Android/data/com.xxxxxxxxxx/ if we are on a phone with UMS but not MTP) is NOT at the right place BEFORE you reboot. Where is it stored? No one knows. And let me demonstrate and explain why, below.
The solution (temporary)
Simply, do not be sad when you face the game crash, and reboot the device. Now everything works because the files are at the right place now! (sadly, DH3 was not working still, for me, but, with the same procedure below, asphalt 6 WORKED!)
Demonstration and Explanation (i know its abit annoying but PLEASE READ!!!)
1. First, I downloaded the game from market

}
2. I checked my phone storage with app "disk usage", my "system data" (probably /data/data) is 220mb
3. Opened the app and download the required data
4. Open the app, after this black screen, it crashed and went back to app drawer!
5. I went back to disk usage, My /data/data is 1283mb??! Note that this is now in the "non rooted" mode of disk usage
6. Surely it is not in /gameloft/games because (i guess) newer ones dont go there anymore but /Android/data
7. However when checking with ASTRO (therefore non-root), there is nothing!
8. Double check with OI File Manager (therefore non-root), still nothing either
9. The surprise is that, in ROOTEXPLORER, for the SAME directory, now there are all those downloaded game files, which is about 1GB
10. Now when going back to disk usage with ROOT mode, those "System data" now moved to "Media" (/sdcard) without me doing anything at all
11. Then I went to ROOTEXPLORER and check /data/data/[the folder of dungeon hunter 3], and it shows 22mb only but not the 1GB as shown in non-rooted explorers
12. After all these, I made a reboot.
13. The non-root mode of disk usage, it went from 1283mb back to a normal value of 221mb, and there the folder goes
14. Finally, they are also shown up in ASTRO, and confirmed the right size of the game data folder.
15. Although, after these, my DH3 was STILL CRASHING, but WITH THE SAME METHOD, my Asphalt 6 HD turned from crashing to working.
My Question
Although, even if not focusing on whether the game is crashing or not, does anyone know why the storage phenomenon existed, if you have knowledge on such thing? I mean, the "data shift"!
Seriously, thank you for your time reading and please kindly post a reply if you would like to discuss!
Honestly, Miasmic.

Asphalt 6 worked perfectly for me from the market, dh3 nudda.

Help me salvage my Android Data :(

Hi everyone,
I had great success with the Android on Wave. Thanks to All the Devs and ShadowAS1 for the tut!
But Today, while I was transferring some files to it my PC gave a BSOD.
Then I crossed my fingers and started Android, it started but then shutdown so I hook it up to Ubuntu and see to my horror, the 'data' folder was missing!
So I 'checked' with Gparted and thankfully I managed to recover all the folders from 'Lost+Found'
but I am a bit stuck on where to put all the .apks I have recovered
(they are the apps that I had installed),
but what folder do they go in?(app-private?? or apps?)
and what Shall I name them??
Also I found that "data/apps/" folder originally contained 7 apps like Titanium Backup and SGS Toolbox and .etc. but those apps are nowhere to be found in the L+F folder...??
So I will really appreciate if any of you can help me with renaming and replacement of these apps..(please refer to your data folder )
Here are the apps that I had installed...

}
I have figured out which one is which...just tell me what to name then and where do I put them,
also can I just copy back the missing apps like preinstalled sgstools and titanium backup, etc?
Apps I had installed
PSX4DROID, NES. EMU, POWERAMP MP3,MOBO PLAYER, load monitor, Dolphin HD, ANGRY BIRDS RIO, Google Earth, Moon Reader Pro,SNES9X EX, Picsel Smart Office, ES file Manager,Musical Pro w/t piano,ROOT explorer, Wifi Explorer pro,
my other folders that I renamed..
Well I'm not 100% sure but i thought it differs per app.
The best thing you could do is intall every app seperatedly via ADB (cause copying the files to their folders wont install the apps)
I think this might be a pretty good idea how to do this: http://www.brighthub.com/mobile/google-android/articles/37151.aspx
thanks for the reply ShadowAS1!
I managed to install a couple of apps successfully by copying their settings folder name from "data/data" folder and adding a '-1.apk' next to it. but the diamond key is not working and wifi is showing 'unable to scan'...I thin I will just try once by checking with gparted or otherwise reinstall..

Yep I deleted all the stuff in the partition and recopied the files. but now it gets stuck at first B&W boot screen! I know If I format the whole card and repartition it will work just fine. But do you know any other way? cause it a P-I-A to recopy all my files in FAT32 Partition. Is there any particular folder that needs to be deleted from FAT32 partition so I can just recopy the files on EXT3 part and have a new install while retaining my other files on fat32?

[Q] System Data taking 2.5 GB on SD Card

Ok, so somehow I did something that caused my SD card to fill up. When I look at DiskUsage, it shows that the system data folder is taking up all of my space.
Has anyone else had this problem, and can you fix it?

I really need help...
I don't know what you did.... I compared my unit using the same tool and I don't even have a System Data section on my /sdcard
If you have TWRP loaded, you might be able to wipe your data etc... but I have no idea.
Perhaps someone else has an idea
Well, I dont have a system data folder, atleast in my SD card.
I am thinking maybe it is somehow attatched to the SD partition, but...
Anyway, is it normal to have 200,000 + files in your "sys" directory?
The tool you are using doesn't output very clear info and the graphics by themselves don't give you details on what it is really finding...
Below is what mine looks like. This appears to be the same setting you used, but as you can see, there is no System Data listed.
Are there tools that are more presise I can look for?
Ok, so I found a file inside LOST.DIR called 1048578. It is taking up 2.3 GB. Can I delete it safely?
yes you should be able to do that.
You most likely had a crash and the file was lost from where it was actually pointing.
An solution to your problem

its because of three things that regularly happen
1) Because of Browsing the internet System data gets increased.
Try clearing your browser cache and reboot(e.g chrome, mozilla, the one u use the most)
2) Because of opening gallery your /DCIM/.Thumbnails folder gets loaded whit lots of bytes. delete the /DCIM/.Thumbnails folder
3) Also because of transfering files from your pc to your phone one more folder gets loaded.. delete it its the /nomedia/
Plz Hit Thanks............. :good: :good:
The same thing also happened to me. Using the Android tool DiskUsage, after deleting many large media files via the PC, all of a sudden a System data of 22 GB was indicated. After I restarted the phone, the size was reduced to 2.3 GB.

[Q] Strange Storage Problems

Yo guys, I've got a situation here.
So I was using the tablet of my mum, and when I tried to install a navigation app for her, it said that I don't have enough space left. Well I checked and found that:

}
can any of you guys tell why the heck gallery takes up 8,37 gb?! my mum never ever does any photos with this tablet...
Not sure exactly why it's that big but did you look into the "App info" screen & try to clear data?
I've kinda experienced this on another device but nowhere near that much was being used, turned out it was a temp thumbnail cache file, it just grew bigger & bigger, over 1GB at one time, still have to keep clearing/deleting it every so often.

provided you have root and custom recovery AND your rom is de-odexed
pull the gallery.apk from system and store it on your sdcard, then delete the original.
then go jnto dcim/.thumbnails and clear it. then goto app settings and clear data.
then reboot to recovery and wipe caches. then reboot. then drop gallery apk back into
system, the reset permissions on gallery.apk to 644 then reboot.
now recheck.

K the problem is that this tablet is not mine, it's from my mum, and she doesn't want to root /unlock it because it still got warrenty
with root, i wouldn't be a great problem for me to reset that
I have faced this problem multiple times, this is how i resolved it.
There are two .thumbnails folders
1.) Sdcard
2.) dcim\.thumbnails
Enable hidden files in My Files or ex explorer settings and delete these directories
And using es explorer create a file .thumbnails where the directory used to be
This will ensure that the .thumbnails directory is never created as there is already a file with the same name there.
The dcim/.thumnails is for the gallery
The sdcard/.thumbnails is for the video player
Note: in kitkat use Mx player as the stock video player seems to crash if you create a file at sdcard/.thumbnails

[Xposed & Root] Use External SD as Internal SD

--------
Standard Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for bricking, breaking or otherwise harming your device, please be aware of your options and the possible dangers. Make yourself familiar with the installation/disable process of xposed.
ALWAYS make backups before doing anything xposed/flash related.
--------
Just wanted to share a method I'm currently using to install a lot of games with filling the (small) 32gb internal storage.
Assuming you have already unlocked your bootloader, rooted and installed xposed on your phone. (Xposed not available for nougat yet, so no support for EMUI 5).
Note: This only works if you inserted an External SD card, this of course won't work with dual-sim).
1.Open the xposed installer and go to the download section.
2. Search for & install 'XinternalSD'.
3. After installation, activate the module.
4. Reboot.
5. After reboot, in my case, it should automatically have made the external sd be recognized by android as the internal SD.
6. Play around with the settings, you can enable it for all app, or just certain apps. You may need to reboot after changing settings.
7. Screenshot of my settings:

Warning: After setting this up, you may have to reinstall some apps, they may not be able to update, because the Play Store tries to update to the new location, where the app isn't.

Link 2 sd works for some app/games.
For example, spotify worked great, but asphalt would just try to redownload everything.
I've just downloaded a lot of games at once, mostly to test with my controller. However, some games have remained after testing and now I can play whatever and whenever i want, without having to make space. What else do I need the 128gb for .
Also, please don't quote the entire post .

I give up on playing this 6x. The only heavy duty game I'm playing is Fallout Shelter on my Pixel XL.

Might be a root check issue since it started after rooting.
Hide Magisk then hide your game apps. See if that matters a difference

Didn't work
Sorry about the delay. Does this happen with every game?
Did you check to see if the obb file is being installed to the correct folder? Is the obb file surviving reboot, but the game doesn't see it? Does the obb version you are using match the game version?
If the obb & game are out of sync you may need to do a full uninstall/download/reinstall

I checked all, reinstalled and all, basically everytime I reboot the phone all the game's obb files gets deleted
I downloaded a new game to check, rebooted and it says the obb file is missing gotta redownload.
Probably not relevant, but have you hidden Magisk and used hide on the game and Google play?
Which game? A11 changed some permissions on the obb folder is this have being installed from an “official” (Google play store, developer) source?
What happens if you clear game's cache & data (no reboot), do you have to redownload the obb?
Are the obb files and/or obb folder surviving reboot? Use a file explorer to see if those are there both before & after reboot.
Have you tried deleting the entire android/obb folder and letting a reinstall rebuild it?
Try installing a new & different game with an obb and see if the same thing happens.
