[Q] Custom ROMs with Credo Mobile? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I looked and could not find a good answer to this. I am the proud new owner of a Galaxy Epic 4G Touch through Credo Mobile (the progressive Sprint reseller). I would like to install a custom ROM (CM9), but before I do, I need to know:
1) Will I have a problem activating my phone on Credo (I assume that most ROMs assume you're with Sprint proper)?
2) Once I have managed to activate it, will there be features -- calling, SMS, MMS, etc. -- that won't work?
3) Will I have a problem activating Google Voice (haven't tried on stock yet, but I have a sense of how it should go)?
4) Is there anything else I should know about the Credo / Custom ROM combination that I don't have the good sense to ask here (as a longtime CM user, I've got the basic principles of ROM-flashing down)?
Thanks all, ahead of time, for your answers!

(Sorry to even do this, but ...)
*bump*

Flashing roms do not affect the modem(which is where your service programming is stored), unless you flash a new modem of course.
I an on boost and i never have problems with any ROM, roms only affect the system partition. The modem is completely different.
If you flash a new modem, you may need to do a profile update to keep your 3g profile up to date.
I haven't heard of that so idk if a profile update will work (only with Sprint service and plans can you do an ota profile update). I am not on Sprint so i have to manually update my data profile through qpst service programming.

1. I had no problems rooting and running Blazer & Paranoid Android ROMs as if it was a Sprint phone.
2. I have a weird issue where when I get voicemails they send me an SMS, or txt (I didn't know there was a difference...), and a number to dial to choose between the 2. Then after a few minutes I sometimes get the voicemail in the Voicemail app as well. As far as MMS, I don't use them, I use email for sending pictures and videos, but if you needed that, there are instructions for changing your MMSC URL. It didn't work for me, but I don't use them anyways so I didn't bother struggling with it. Also I learned that for CM based ROMs, the ##3282## is #*#*3282*#*# or *#*#3282#*#* one or the other I don't remember.

It didn't install with a camera, is that in the gapps I can't remember; and we use jb gapps, correct? also, how do we use dialer codes? I've got to edit a mscurl so I can accept and send pictures. I have a third party (Credo) phone carrier through Sprint."
I have Credo too, what extra things do we have to do to get full functionality?

There's the problem - you're on an MVNO.
1) Go to phone and enter ##DATA# (##3282#)
2) Go to Edit and enter MSL
3) Go to Others and then MMSC URL
4) Change from mms.sprintpcs.com to mms.plspictures.com
This should restore MMS.

3. I'm about to set up Google Voice, but I can't figure out if the Sprint/GV combo works with CREDO, it seems to not recognize the number as a Sprint number, so that may be a problem.

[APP] Cell Broadcasts - Emergency Alert System

My biggest hold back on installing CM10 or AOKP was the lack of Cell Broadcasts built in. But low an behold I was able to restore it from a Titanium Backup. I figured I'd go ahead and share it here for all. And maybe for myself if I ever lose it!
This for sure installed on AOKP. At least it installed, I'll have to wait until Wednesday when they do the test to confirm it works.
To install (this is old, the link at bottom has a flashable zip.):
1. Copy the "CellBroadcastReceiver.apk" into "/system/app"
2. Change the permissions to "rw- r-- r--"
3. Restart
It wont be a normal app, but it should appear under Settings --> More... --> Cell broadcasts

It may not be for everyone. But for me, in Arkansas, I find it useful for Tornado warnings. The AMBER alerts are good too. Apps use data and GPS, thus killing your battery. This is a more stable system than some app. Most of the time my phone's WiFi is connected to some shoddy open Linksys router and in and out of proper data service anyway.
Cell Broadcast is like receiving a free text. Good for those on limited data plans, or those that need to be safe!

I think this was standard on the STOCK build, I can not remember since I rooted and flashed CM10 nearly the same day I got the phone. The point of this as the OP states is that once you flash CM10 you lose this functionality. He provided a way to recover that functionality.
Why does this get stripped out when they build the ROMs? I can't imagine anyone actually thinking it'd be a good idea to remove this, is it an oversight?
Cell broadcasts are true broadcasts, so there are no network overload issues when sending them out.
And they work as soon as there is coverage. If you are roaming somewhere without data, the broadcasts will still work.
Doesn't Google Now have something like this built in?
"Public Alerts" card? ... I do remember when a hurricane was coming to NYC, I never received any alerts. Although I was told by some people, it was in text messages.
Thanks to the OP for the app, obviously some people wanted it.
I find this funny though because my parents and I spent xmas weekend trying to figure out how to turn this crap off on their iphones, never did find a way, fortunately my n4 (stock at the time) did not have this annoyance.
This should be a flashable zip, with an addon.d script to keep it alive between ROM updates. I suppose I'll make a zip for myself.

Try dialing ##72786#.
CM 10.1 doesn't have this feature for the phone from my understanding. My phone doesn't reboot or anything. Also I wouldn't just blurt out stuff like that, I would post a little information on what that does for people who don't know.
My phone is still producing this problem up to this day. I can make phone calls, but cannot enjoy the convenience of texting.

Speaking if lacking information, you forgot to say you are running cm10.1 in the op. That could of helped.
Solution: flash back to a tw rom. And follow instructions giving. That dialer code resets your radios , it'll restart you phone.

What do you mean by "tw rom"?
For the love of everything dear, if you have the cojones to be running a CM10 ROM, you should at least know that TW refers to TouchWiz, as in the stock Samsung TouchWiz ROM.
Have you called in to customer service and have them either re-provision your account and or profile or just see if it's a tower issue in your locale, etc etc?
This past week, for 2 days, i couldn't make or receive calls or SMS but data worked. I didn't come on XDA and start a thread BEFORE calling in to C.S and finding out that it was a network/tower issue in my area/zip code (and they gave me a $10 credit for my trouble).

First, knowing what TW means isn't a requirement for you to root your device. But due to the situation, I know what TW is now. Secondly, wouldn't anyone with half a brain call Customer Service? To elaborate, no it's not a tower issue, it's specifically related to something on the device that is revoking it's ability to access my data.. maybe a username or password? Thank you for your abysmal support LordLugard.
Really..... it's a common assumption you know the at the very least what tw and aosp mean, if you know how to flash stuff.
With that said consult the cm10.1 thread.

NO, IT WILL NOT WORK ON ANY THING, and i mean ANYTHING other then a stock based m919 rom.
no, it will not work on aosp. no it will not work on i9505 roms. no it will not work on google edition roms (yet, porting it to those kinds of roms will be much easier since its based on touchwiz code, but still a challenge) yes it will work on an unlocked s4 from another carrier with a tmobile sim.
please guys, start using the search function, this question has been asked 100 different ways in 100 different threads
If it was that easy there wouldn't be a $10k bounty on it.

While this is true now....it will not be true forever.
People are trying to crack it and are getting the app to run smoothly and almost have it authenticating with a t mobile account. So progress is being made.
For the people who don't know the problem with just restoring the backed up app is that the app is just the interface for WiFi calling. The actual ability to do WiFi calling is baked into the framework of the stock ROM with various prices hurried all over the place.

I always thought the reason we can't get WiFi calling on any ROM was NOT because of apks but because of .so and lib files that cannot be decompiled.

Oh that's right...the libs weren't just hidden they needed to be modded as well. The ICS WiFi calling only took about a month to hack and port. T mobile got more creative on the jellybean version. Though I don't know why. They still can control authentication of a device and user account on their end. Its not like you can just steal t mobile service by installing WiFi calling.

true. But I give T-Mobile credit. I mean why port something that is exclusive to their phones and devices? It's not like it's taking control of your device like a locked bootloader or something like that. I say if you want WiFi calling then use a stock based ROM. There are hundreds out there plus with all the modding going on I'm sure there 90 percent pa aosp features can be added

[RESOLVED] [Q] After installing CM 10.2 nightly, 4G not available

Hey folks,
I've been searching for answer to this problem for a while and haven't been able to find a thread that answers my questions. If there is one that I couldn't find, I'd appreciate a link.
I installed CM 10.2 on my D710. After a bunch of issues with it (couldn't get CWM to run, had to use AGAT to install CM, which then brought along a version of CWM that does work), I finally got everything up and running, but 4G isn't available (3G works fine, if a bit slower than I remember, but I've not run any speed tests). I've gone to the #*#*4636*#*# menu and tried every preferred network type – it defaults to WCDMA Preferred, which, if I understand correctly, means 3G only, but even when I set it to LTE Only, for example, there's still no 4G. I've also flashed pretty much every JB modem (and some ICS ones too) I could find (thanks rwilco12!); with some, I couldn't get 3G or voice to work, but even with those that do, 4G just isn't there. No mention anywhere in the system settings menus, nothing.
My best guess at this point is that it's an APN issue, but that's just based on what I've read elsewhere. I also haven't been able to find instructions on how to modify APNs on this device, or what the APN settings really do.
Any help on this would be much appreciated – this is my first time posting, but I've benefitted greatly from the forums in the past. Hope someone here can help me out.
4G Wimax was removed from the source code in 4.3 and up (KitKat has no Wimax as well). CM10.2 is Android 4.3, that means no 4G for us unless you are using 4.2.2 (CM10.1) and below. And no there is no way around it. Google did this because no Wimax device will ever have official 4.3 so they decided to trim down the code.

No, no way around it. The source code is gone. Unless you know somebody who works for Google on Android and happens to have the missing source code, don't count on it. Yeah CM10.1 still has 4G Wimax.
Well okay then. Thanks for the help! Guess 10.1 it is, then.
Okay, I installed the 10.1 ROM found here. The mobile data settings now include 4G – but it still doesn't work. Modem is FL24. Any ideas for what to try next?

What do you mean by doesn't work? Doesn't turn on? Doesn't connect? Gives you an error? My suggestion is to Odin a stock ROM and make sure nothing is messed up hardware wise.
I'm not sure how to tell whether or not it turns on, but even once I enable it in the settings, I don't see a 4G icon in the status bar, either searching or connecting. It worked fine back on stock Android; I can certainly try to go back to that (although I haven't been able to find a ZIP, only .exe and I'm on Mac), but if I can stick with CM, I'd prefer to...

Go into System Settings, click on the 4G (may be under Mobile Data, it's been awhile since I've been on AOSP) and it should have a screen similar to this (screenshot is TouchWiz, but you get the point) this is how you'll be able to tell if it's turning on/scanning/connecting.
OK, that's what I thought. So I can turn it on, but no networks show up. It says Scanning, but never finds anything. I'm in downtown SF, so I think it's pretty unlikely that's the issue.
Have you had wimax before? On a touchwiz or AOSP ROM?
The wimax rollout was halfassed at best, multiple major markets never saw it cause LTE rolled out soon after.

They also removed all traces of the Oculus software that was originally on our devices. So no chance of getting VR support for these devices in the future then
wifi calling now available (eg wifi-only calling, BUT no wifi-only messaging so thats kinda stupid...)
activity zone 'compass mode' with 'map mode' (which never worked, only said 'google services is updating' removed
advanced messaging (separate balloon per text/attachment, and 'xxx is typing' is new)
Great news! The recent update 8/11/2016 fixed the dpi error we were getting. I was able to successfully change my dpi using the display scaling app. View attachment 3839483

I checked on the official site (which just recently added the phone on the site, as I've been checking often), and they don't have any info on updates or anything posted yet.
So far I noticed: WiFi Calling and Messaging, Message Scheduling (Don't think I noticed this before), Security Update, Removal of Oculus (the setup for the full Oculus Software), Advanced Messaging for AT&T customers, and Text Counter.
If we see anything else, I'll add to this, or we can hope for release notes/ change log
Anyway i can update this without att sim? Im using cricket
Should be able to
I have the s7 active and the battery life is OK not great but ok and the update installed WiFi calling and text messaging works on WiFi
The only times I've ever had good battery life on any Android device were and continue to be from custom roms and kernels. No stock rom including stock nexus roms give me good battery life. That being said, my used S7A is actually not too bad for everything stock without root and it had better with such a big battery.
Anyone one having problem with mms video being blurry when sent to another phone. I know it's not the carrier att because my wife has an iPhone 6s and it sends the same mms video perfect. Picking brains not noses

That is likely due to compression in the SMS client you're using. I don't know what AT&T's limitations are on file size for MMS, but I do know third-party SMS apps allow for tweaking of that. I use Textra currently, and can set a max upload/send size in the options. I know other SMS apps have similar functionality, but I doubt the stock one does.
Another update today, looks to be only security fixes for Aug. I'm actually surprised they released it IN Aug and not months down the line. Lol

Hello,
I live in Korea and not an AT&T carrier user. So, I have never received AT&T's OTA.
I tried to connect my Galaxy S7 Active to Samsung Smart Switch, but Samsung Smart Switch says my phone's firmware is the newest version.
My phone's baseband version is G891AUCU1APE7, and build number is MMB29M.G891AUCU1APE7.
Am I unable to update my phone forever?
I want to update my phone's firmware.
I desperately need your help...
Update lên pi2
