[Windows][Linux][Mac][One-Click] Root - CWM - Galaxy Nexus 4.0.1 & 4.0.2 -NO WIPE-
Introduction
I put together a one-click root in CASUAL format. Because it's in CASUAL format, the same Java JAR will work on Windows, Linux and Mac.
This package contains
root your device without unlocking/wiping.
install busybox without unlocking/wiping.
install Clockwork Mod Recovery for GSM or CDMA without unlocking/wiping.
Lock/unlock
Download and Instructions
CASUAL is easy to use, and fairly self explanitory.
Launch the downloaded application using Java with right-click-open, or from a command line: "java -jar GalaxyNexus.jar"
Select "Galaxy Nexus root"
Click the "Do It' button
Optionally: Repeat the previous step with "Install Busybox" option selected to install Busybox.
Optionally: Select Install Galaxy Nexus CDMA or GSM ClockWork Mod Recovery
Download Galaxy Nexus Root and Busybox
Ensure you have Java Installed on your computer. Do you have java?

Looks promising

I just updated this to one-click install CWM without unlocking your device. Have fun

Great. Any chance of getting this working on 4.0.3 or 4.0.4? Keep on the good work

If anyone can come up with an exploit, CASUAL can package it for one-click operation on all operating systems.

Any chance of having the option to unlock the bootloader?

Hi! If i root my Nexus with this tool, then i will void the warranty? I dont want to install recovery or unlock bootloader, just root.
Looks nice

Yes!
I'm still working on figuring out all of the reprecussions of this. I think it can be done, but I'm not sure what all is contained in the same file... I don't want to release something with side effects.

I'm not really sure what the terms and conditions of your warranty are, but there is no "unlocked" icon to show that you've voided your warranty because this uses a permissions exploit to circumvent the need to unlock and flash a kernel.

I would GLADLY donate a nice amount if there would be a way to make this work on Honeycomb. Sick of Verizon's bs not getting ICS out to the Xoom, but I have too much game data saved - don't wanna root since unlock/wipe is required.

Pretty much is. AOSP, uses fastboot, etc. Just different OS version.
I get why though - just wish there was a way...

great news
nice work !

Great job, used it on my Galaxy Nexus Verizon version 4.0.2 and worked perfectly.
Thanks!

Busy Box
Do you need t install busy box or Install the proper recovery for your device
Please explain.
I am interested in Root and or Super User and i think this is the way to go but not sure about the BB or Recovery.
With this giving you +root+ and no wipe what is need for BB and shouldn't you still be able to restore the phone using factory reset?
Thankx!

You can root with this app without needing to wipe. It will automatically install the Super User. Then you can install Busy Box via the application as well.
You do not need to install a custom recovery if you do not want to. BusyBox is simply tools on the android that let you install more apps that require advanced commands.

Galaxy Nexus 4.0.1 & 4.0.2 -NO WIPE
Thank you!!
If i have the need to un-root my device will this application do that as well?
Also, will i still be able to receive OTA updates this way or will i have to do them manually? I just want to know my optionswith it before i +root+ using this method.

I don't see why you can't get OTA updates but that might kill the root. Meaning the update could stop the root and you would have to either reroot it using this way or using the official method where you first have to unlock the device.
Maybe the developer can shed a bit more light on that part and for un-rooting as well

I bet that GnexRootToolkit.v1.3 will un-root your phone if you use this 1-click method. Just not sure.

You should be fine. Just run the app again after rooting. This works with the 4.0.2 OTA.
If you need to unroot id check out ERD Supercurio's RootKeeper. Great app and it can spoof unrooting .

can I flash custom rom after using installed cwd with this tool?
how to update the cwd to the last release?

[Feedback] Any interest in Automated root of stock ROM (w/o ODIN or ROM Flash)?

I have some scripts that I wrote for LG Optimus S to do a fully automated root/unroot of the stock ROM.
I adapted them to work with the Samsung Epic 4G Touch.
This would root the phone using your EXISTING stock ROM. No need to use ODIN or mess with custom recoveries, kernels, or ROMs.
Everything would be your existing stock (ROM, zImage-kernel+initramfs, etc), except you'd have ROOT, so it shouldn't suffer from LOS (unless you had LOS with stock to start with)
Looking for feedback. If there is any interest I can clean it up and post the package.
EDIT:
Here you go:

Let me know if there are any problems and I will try and fix them quickly.

I could see interest in something like this.
I recall multiple threads asking "will the epic touch ever get a more conventional root?" so if you can pull it off I could definitely see the demand.
I remember reading about this root method on the AC forums. I wouldn't be interested myself, as I want more from a rooted device, but I'd imagine there would be a reasonable number of people who only want root for wifi tethering and certain apps that require it and don't care about custom recovery and kernels/ROMs.
Ill be the first to test it.

I don't think it's too confusing, I just don't want to have to flash ANYTHING to get root. I have had ZERO problems with my phone. Not a single LOS, no random game closes, nothing. I don't want to risk flashing a kernel, even the stock pulled, and potentially stirring something up and having to deal with LOS and whatever else. Not worth it to me.
@OP- can you make it Mac compatible pleaseeeee?

Assuming you install "adb" on Mac, you can use the (included) manual rooting instructions (see Reference Section B)
It should be much simpler than other manual instructions as you still are getting 95% of the automation through scripts. Just a little typing to kick things off.
I would test it.

Probably not a big deal for many folks on XDA, but this method will NOT trigger the Yellow Triangle nor will it increase your ODIN flash count.
There are, of course, ways to address those annoyances when using other methods.
There is a software fix for yellow triangle which should account for most sprint stores but I always welcome more solutions

I found a conventional root. Google "doomlord root" or http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
It works perfectly for the epic touch. No flashing required. I used it because i wanted full control but loved stock.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Update Error

Hi Guys!
I did not find anything concerning this problem, so i considered posting it here, I hope this is the right section though.
I own a GSM Galaxy Nexus (German Phone) and after finally getting the update 2 4.0.4 my phone always jumps into this state after rebooting and trying 2 update:

As i found no way to update manually this is probably the only way to get to 4.0.4.
The Phone is rooted and has 4.0.2 running atm.
Anyone some advice?

Your have one or more of the following:
1) a radio that is different from XXKK6;
2) a boot image that is either not stock or (if it is stock), a different version from the one included in the factory image of the ROM you are using;
3) a stock recovery that is a different version from the one included in the factory image of the ROM you are using;
4) files in /system that were modified or deleted, either by you, or one of your root apps.
Those issues need to be rectified before the update will install.
Have a read of this thread for additional info.
Hey efrant
Thanks for you fast answer!
I checked the list.
1.) My Baseband/Radio is I9250XXKK6, so i guess thats ok so far.
2 and 3.) As far as I know I'm on stock Boot image and ROM, how can I check that on my phone? (Heres the info from the system info menu: Kernel-Version: 3.0.8-gaaa2611 [email protected] #1, Build number: ICL53F)
4.) I had several files altered by root apps:
- I'm using Avast Anti Theft and had the Anti Theft functions written into my bootrom (which could likely cause a problem)
- I'm using a Web Remote App that altered some files in the system at least it requested superuser access
Thanks
Julian

The easiest way to proceed is to flash CWM, download the IMM76I-from-ICL53F update from here and try to install it in CWM. CWM will tell you exactly which file/files is/are causing the problem.
So, I'll use Method 2 from your link above and this firmware right, and report back!
Worked flawlessly! Thank you!
Or not....
I had OTA RootKeeper installed before the Update and just reflashed the device afterwards being sure that my device will be rooted again....
Well as i found out right now it didnt protect anything, i tried Root Check Basic (Which says my device isnt properly rooted) and wanted to do a superuser binary update which always fails at "getting root access".
I tried rerooting the device using the GNex Root Toolkit several times, with OTA RootKeeper protection on and off, no difference.
Im not sure what a rest would do to my phone as I have an anti theft app installed and several other things that would cost me some time to rebuild after reset. So i'd by happy to solve this without a factory rest. Any Suggestions?
Thank you
Julian

[Q] Is it possible to remove "Activation" dialog at startup?

I am using the device ONLY as a gaming device and have no plans to activate it through Verizon, however, everytime I turn it on, it asks me to activate on the network. I can simply close this and avoid it, but I would prefer to remove this entirely if possible. I tried to root the phone but no matter what rooting tool I use, it fails. Every time.
Can I please get some help? I am more of a Windows Phone person so I don't know much about Android rooting and modding.

If I recall correctly, the Verizon versions of the R800 (Might be the R800x) are somewhat locked down so I doubt you can do much at all 'easily' to be honest.
At the very least, without ROOT access you'll be unable to write to the SYSTEM partition which is what you will likely need to get access to in order to remove the activation message - it'll likely be an application that simply needs deleting. You can definitely get ROOT access on the R800x's though, I think it requires flashing different firmware using flashtool.
I would however stress to not let this particular device put a 'downer' on Android devices for you as a whole - there are only a small few devices locked down like this and the rest of the R800's aren't as restricted. You need an R800i lol.
I've tried to hunt down info to no avail on rooting this model. Every root too I've used has shown no results. The device does not change.

You can definitely root the R800x on 2.3.4. I've done it on 3 phones.
I posted this thread a while back to inform others of an easy root method using the Cydia Impactor Root tool .... ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55573098 ). You won't see any visible changes after running the root tool (other than seeing su binary placed in system/xbin folder after rooting), but you can install Supersu to manage root applications after you inject the root with Cydia.
You may need to install an older version of Supersu after running Cydia Impactor Root, as I have not tested the newest version of Supersu from the Play Store. You can grab an older Supersu apk from here: ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53636923&postcount=2 ) which I believe would work if the newest Supersu doesn't work. ( Thanks goes to XDA member DocHoliday77 for the supersu apk and of course to Chainfire).
After you gain root, then check out post #7 in this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55290171 ) to see how to easily install CWM / Clockwork Mod Recovery.
.... (FYI, there's actually another root method called Eroot that also works on the R800x on 2.3.4 and 2.3.3....it's discussed in the same thread above where I said to see how to install CWM .... but I prefer Cydia Impactor method instead).
I hope this helps.

So, I turned this phone on after about a year since this last post and I decided to give it another go. Finally got it using the Cydia Impact method. BusyBox refuses to work but file browsers are allowing root access to delete the bloatware apps so thats good. Thanks for the help!

Why make the process more complicated and require the phone to be hooked up to a pc? Just go into the supersu app and click on "fully unroot".....done. Afterward flash the supersu zip from twrp recovery to re-root. (Yes twrp will install an factory update just the same as factory recovery)

Remember it's a much more thorough process than that? You made a guide saying we have to restore an unrooted stock image and etc. There were a couple of steps that required a PC so I was just curious if a program would ever be able to do that automatically for us.

That was true at the time but since then it's been determined only a full unroot is required. (it MAY be an issue when android 5.1.x comes along) The images were left for folks who need to restore their system from an error. If you have further question lets take it to the system image thread so as not to hijack @WindyCityRockr's thread.

You can see the source code here, and the unlock command, as well as the rooting command, is the same for all smartwatches. The TWRP comes from this post, so it's completely safe. Please confirm things before you post.

I should confirm things before posting? YOU should confirm that while I have hwatch connected I can press any combination of buttons in your ADB wrapper and nothing bad happens. What about supersu? The option is there, have you tested it with hwatch? Please confirm things before you post.

Nothing bad can happen to a device that's not within the user's control. There are many checks in place to prevent errors, and the TWRP and SuperSU are specific to the HWatch. While I haven't personally tested them, I've confirmed that many users on the forum used that method to root their HWatch, so I implemented that into the toolkit. Go ahead and click any combination of buttons you want.
what's up with when I download this tool I get "Cannot save due to insufficient permissions. Please save to another location"

Try downloading on your PC, if you want to try it. (Always try at your own risk.)

Exactly THIS is what such a bulkly distributed tools gets to.
Just dont use this crap app noone really tested before publishing. Go for skin's kernel or anything other that has been proven to work, not just published to get likes/thanks.

Glad it worked out for ya. Just received my beautiful Huawei watch and will be checking out unlocking it...
i agree with most people.. would love it if we could have a "return to stock" option that would relock-bootloader in process and remove twrp and supersu just make it go back to complete stock heh just dreaming i think
WinDroid Toolkit v3.0 Is Now Out!
WinDroid Toolkit v3.0 has been released! It's a huge update with a material redesign, major recode and support for 43 new devices!
You can out more specific changes in the changelog here.
You can download the new update here.
All versions before v3.0 will not have their files updated anymore since I've moved from hosting on BasketBuild to Amazon S3. Please update to v3.0 to ensure you're getting the latest recovery and root files!
still working same as 2.6 nothing is wrong only wishing for the back to stock option would be cool and give it like a click twice or 3 times warnings about "you sure you wanna do it? there's no goin back!"
