[Q] HTC One X - Mic Problem whilst in Speaker mode in a call - HTC One X

Hi,
I just received my HTC One X today as an upgrade from T-Mobile. I've been waiting to get my hands on this for ages like most of you so you would most likely know how I feel when its not how you expected i.e things going wrong/not working etc.
THE PROBLEM:
The problem seems to be that when I am on a call using the speaker mode, the mic does not seem to work, therefore the person on the other side cannot hear me. I tested it again myself and it seems as if the mic mutes itself when you press the speaker mode in a call. You are still able to hear the other person yet they cannot hear you.
However when I am not in speaker mode, everything works as normal so I am wondering is this a software fault or hardware fault.
Please get back to me as soon as, as I really do not want to return the phone and go through the dreaded process.
Thank you for reading.
P.S
My HTC One X:
Software Version: 1.26.110.5
HTC SDK: 4.11
(As i am on Tmobile, My HOX is branded therefore has not received latest update)

I have the exact same problem, I bought the phone about a month ago, and I didn't check the speaker mode function, then I flash few different custom rom, Now I found the speaker mode problem as tkr1992 has, since I unlock the bootloader (although I relock the bootloader) but HTC won't repair the phone free of charge for me, they say the phone need a new mainbroad... will cost me 2XX USD,
I don't even know is the phone has this problem when I first bought it or after I flash some custom rom.
HtC told me it should be software problem cos it is the same mic that use in speaker mode or non speaker mode, so when other side can hear you when you not on speaker mode, mean the mic is alright, BUT they told me it need to replace the mainboard cos I have unlock the bootloader so they can't not recover the phone to stock rom, BUT again I already relock the bootloader and RUU the stock rom back to the phone, still the same problem.
I need help too, Any good fellow can help??????????

I hope it is just a software fault. I did just receive an update today from T-Mobile, as my HOX is branded. The update is 1.28.110.7. It still seems that my mic problem is present.
Does anyone also know what fixes are included in this update?
Thanks

Any ideas anyone? Would really like to fix this instead of sending phone back to tmobile.
Thanks

Regarding to your inquiry about HTC One X, we would like to provide you with following advice and solution as below: First you can diagnosis the hardware issue on the speaker. Please kindly type *#*#3424#*#* on the dial screen, you will enable the function test program. And then select "Audio Test", tap Run. Please finish the test as instructions.
But it didn't work for me the phone just didn't do anything, you can try.

Thanks for that, i just tried the audio test diagnosis. The test shows that everything is working correctly however the same problem still occurs within a call like before.

Try reset to factory setting, see if it does any different.
That is the HTC guy try to do to my one x.
btw have you rooted your phone or unlocked the downloader?

You have working Navigation application in background and this make call routing first to speaker part permanently, not to earphone - like phone is in Handsfree mode. Try to disable it / shut down it / and all be fine.

I'm experiencing this exact issue as well - has anyone come up with any possible solutions?

There are 2 microphones on this phone, the upper one next to the headset jack and the other next to the lower right corner of the screen.
While on phone mode the lower one is the main microphone because its closer to your mouth, on speaker mode the upper one becomes the main mic.
It's probably a hardware fault since you flashed stock rom and it's still not working.

I seem to have this issue too - did anyone get a solution
Audio tests fine, but in Google Talk, or Google Hangout, or Phone Dialer in speaker mode - the mic input is not working, so recipient cannot hear.

Google Maps Issue
So my wife has the same phone (HTC One X) and has the most recent update to 4.0.4 (stock everything) and found out that it is indeed either the google 'navigation' app, or the google 'maps' app running in the background that will give this problem. Simply go to settings, then apps, then stop the maps or navigation process, make sure you go to the cached processes as well and stop those. Right after that her phone started working again. I also tested with the HTC test tool code that was given earlier and just like everyone else the test passed fine. So this should be the fix.

i have the same issue..
.. since updating my HOX to 3.18.401.1 and can confirm that disabling the google maps service solves the issue (at least for now)...
Anyway i have to admit that thos workaround doesn´t make me happy at all, a phone without google maps is a pain in the ......
Update: Nope .... it worked for the first 2 calls, now silence again.....Did already 3 factory resets....no idea anymore, i think i gonna sned it in to HTC...

Hello,
I have the same problem and many users "HOX" have the same worries. It seems that when you change the screen touch there is a lot of trouble of this kind.
Does anyone find a solution?

Any update on this? Did you send it to HTC? Mine has also stopped suddenly a few days back while on viper 3.7.2. Tried factory reset, flashed the rom again, flashed other roms, but the problem is still there...

in may case it was a defective mainboard....
I had to send in my HOX 3 times to HTC repair until they (and me) figured out it was a Mainboard problem.
The first 2 repair attempts where quite strange, because they changed some parts which have absolutely nothing to do with the MIC and when i received it the problem was still here, but anyway
I came to the final diagnosis, because after turning the HOX on, it was working for some calls, then the MIC suddenly stopped...Getting more and more angry because of sending the phone in and receiving it 3 weeks later unrepaired, i once squeezed my HOX really hard during a "silent" phonecall and while squeezing it (on both lower edges) the MIC worked again.
After that experience all was clear, because this behaviour is typical for a hairline crack on the PCB. I wrote this on the RMA form and they exchanged the Mainboard....
So, finally i have my HOX again for 4 weeks now (after almost 2 1/2 months without it) and it works flawlessly....
So, good luck guys and a lot of patience

[Q] Headset Problem - Just me ?

I just got a Galaxy W 2 days back, and I absolutely love it, but there is this one issue I am constantly facing.
Whenever I use my headphones, after removing them, the Music ( or whatever audio an app has ) gets routed through the top speaker
(Image Attached) . Although I found a workaround, i.e calling someone on handsfree mode does the trick, Can't find any permanent fix.
Would be glad if someone here could help me out with it. I can't figure out if its a hardware problem or a software bug.
Nope didn't happend to me.
try go to 2.3.6 via kies or auto apdate from the phones settings, maybe it will fix it.
It is already 2.3.6 I updated it as soon as I got it. Will go to service centre today.
But do you have the latest 2.3.6 version?
Does it always do this? You probably have installed an app that might have been messing with your phone's audio. This has never happened to me before.
I bought the phone hardly 4 days back, Yes, happened from the moment I bought it, with no apps installed. Tried ToggleHeadset, but that did not work either.
What is your version and the built date?
*#1234#
sound strange , it didnt happen to me.. maybe u should approach samsung customer service..
Assuming that you tried a different headset and it still doesn't work, I suggest returning the phone as well.
That would be a good idea!
Hey guys,
Just got it back from the Samsung Centre, they say it was a software issue. ( Though its still LA2) Anyways, its solved now.
And what they did with your phone? Factory defaults or what?
I've been having this same problem. I'm glad to hear it's a software problem. I toyed with the idea of sending my phone off to Samsung but I'm glad I didn't now. Especially as I'm planning on rooting soon once I've done a bit more reading up (it's my first android, feels strange to be a beginner with something again, takes a while to learn all the little tricks).
Anyway I posted the following to Android Forums a couple of weeks ago, with no reply (I can see this forum is much more active).
"A problem I've been having recently (not exactly sure when it first happened) is that I'll go to watch a video and instead of the sound coming out of the loudspeaker, it comes out of the handset/phone speaker (not sure what you call it, the one above the screen for putting your ear to). Needless to say it's way too quiet to hear anything properly. It's happened randomly now about 6 or 7 times. I've had to restart the phone every time to remedy the problem. It's getting kinda annoying.
Also I think my headphone volume may be playing up. Not sure if it's related, but there's been times where at full volume music has been pretty underwhelming (I know about the dreaded EU volume cap (which I hope to remedy with a forthcoming root once I've read more up on the subject), no - it seemed even quieter). I'm almost sure there's something wrong because all of a sudden earlier today while listening to some sounds the volume jumped up to what seemed more akin to a maximum volume.
Could these two problems be related? And if so could anyone suggest what I could do to sort this out? Perhaps a factory reset (which I understand I'll have to do if I want to root anyway)? I really don't want to have to send it off for repair. I dunno if I could part with my new favourite toy lol."
Anyway OP you're not alone. Glad to hear you got it sorted. Mine's an XXKK1 btw, although I don't really know what that means.

They updated firmware (try updating it) and then set it to factory default.
RSX....Hi
Are you 2.3.6 or 2.3.5??
The XXKK1......means in Sammy code
XX Region
Austria, Belgium, France,
Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain,
United Kingdom
KK1 simply shows Year/Month/Revision....
1st K is 2011.....starts with A [2001]
2nd K is Nov. [Jan-Dec.....A-L]
So, your FW is Nov 2011, Ver 1
You prob due update......

[Q] HTC one X issue

Hello, i wonder if i am the only one with this issue..
When i started using my one X (quadcore version) all seemed to work fine, then i received and installed 2 new updates from htc and my internal microphone stopped working in calls and with any app i tried.
I havent rooted or installed any custom roms. I tried the hard reset, and still nothing. It seems that the updates have problems with the internal mic, because with headphones works fine.
Any ideas?
Im trying to find how to downgrade my firmware to see if it helps.
Thanks in advance.
try factory reset after the update. and if the problem still persist., maybe go to service center.
Yep, i did the factory reset with no luck. When it finished i noticed that my sofware version didnt downgraded to the fabric version, it deleted all data, reset all phone configs but the software still was in 1.29.707.11 and the mic doesnt work.
Is there any method i could use to downgrade entirely my phone to fabric values without any rooting?
did you try to open phone ever ? or insert anything to your microphone. (looks like powder or have a prong anything ?because its so sensetive...
Nope, i didnt try to open the phone or insert something in the mic hole, i was very cautious with that.
I bought my HOX a week ago, the only things that i have done was installing the superuser app (but it didnt worked because i havent completed the rooting process) and "busybox installer" , also didnt complete because it hasnt root privileges.
Is there any way i could go back 2 update steps without rooting/flashing my phone? I couldnt find anything in the forum/google about that.

you will have to download the original firmware for your region. Check the Android dev forum. But if the phone is new and not rooted just take it back to the shop your bought it or HTC service center.
The service center is 2885 Miles / 4644 Kilometers from here. =S
So, im trying to troubleshoot the problem myself trying to avoid the huge cost involved, no luck till now, but!....
...some days ago i was playing with the voice recorder, all i recorded was hissing and giberrish, then i maked a call, switched the external speaker and muted microphone buttons on/off several times.. then, suddenly the voice recorder started working perfectly!!, i couldnt believe it myself...
but was for a short time, 10 minutes later , started to fail again =(

HOX Vibration problem

What's up guys, i'm new here . Three days ago, HTC sent back my phone after a checkup for a vibration problem. They said that they did a software update (false, it was already 1.29.401.11) and sensors calibration. Yesterday, the phone stopped vibrating again. What should i do now? I think that is a software problem (stock rom, never rooted). I'm sorry for bad english . Thanks

Don't think you can do anything much other than give it back and ask for a replacement as it's the second time this has happened... Also, try doing a factory restore and see if it works.

I dit it, but this should be the third time that i send it to assistance. The first one was for a g sensor problem, resolved with a replacement of motherboard, but when i sent it the vibration worked perfectly, i suspect that they broken my phone.

mine keeps vibrating every 30 min or so
i cant figure out what's causing it any suggestions what it would be ?
not a incoming email vibration notification , not a wi-fi drop out vibration notification.

They actually scammed you by saying they updated it(when it was updated already like you say) You should go back, yell at them and take out some frustration if you wish =P
Don't root your phone to install another rom, try fixing it as is on stock rom.
I would try these:
1)Factory Reset
2)Update to latest FW
3)HTC Diagnostics Test (Has a vibration test)
4)Haptic Feedback On(To see if it vibrates on typing and tapping and such)
5)Phone Ringing with vibration
If any of the above work, then its definitely a software problem.
If they don't, either way you have to go back to HTC. Try getting a replacement. Say you're tired of coming back again and again to get your phone fixed, "Give me a replacement or My Money back"
I read another post a few weeks back where the user was experiencing these mechanical sounds on haptic feedback(I also have that problem) but his vibration stopped altogether. He got his HOX replaced.
Anyways Good Luck.

I don't recommend hijacking the thread, create your own thread
Sorry I'm probably stepping on his thread too, but please point in any directtion before I have an inoperable phone and a hard time getting HTC to cover.
However, I an issue that will f-up this phone I'm afraid. I have on a daily basis what I would describe as an alarm of some sorts (can't duplicate) that runs about 15 seconds once to twice daily at full vibration. Not rooted and have reset 3 times.
If you've ever run a battery drain program with full vibration on. Not good for the phone. I'm at a loss in this one, really dreading tech support or my local store. Will run the HTC diags but any other ideas greatly appreciated
No receipt, no box and I traded for it on Craig'slist 2weeks ago..

My friend had the same problem with a HOX - it wouldn't vibrate at all. He tried doing a factory reset and playing with settings, but nothing worked, so he sent it back and got a replacement. I'm not sure you can do anything about it since it's likely a hardware problem.

[Q] One X calling audio issue

However Everything works fine, The in-call vol is max, songs can be played, calling using speaker on is viable as well as when headset is put on. The normal call is just not working even though it is factory reset
Mind to figure out what problem is this? thanks!

Same here. Any ideas yet??
Hi everyone!
I took some time this weekend to look into this problem again. I tried different roms, including different ICS and JB and even went back to stock (nand backup from first day). No success, still no sound from the front speaker when calling.
While flashing i tried both with sim card in the phone and without, i always did full wipe and flashed boot.img from fastboot. Still not working. No app that needs this speaker works, i also tried skype and talk. So i am out of options now. Is there anything i can do? Would it help to flash a different kernel?
I guess the hardware got broken somewhere along the line. Would HTC fix it under warrenty? Does anyone have experiences with that?
Thanks again for all your kind help! I know this might be cross posting but im going to try and get my problem solved in other threads as well.

I had the same issue and got it fixed at the HTC service center. I also had wifi fixed and changed my LCD since there were yellow spots on my screen. Since the phone was under warranty everything was done for free.
Ok thanks, i will try HTC sercive center nearby. Though im on unlocked, rooted device so im not sure how they will react... will report!

Can't hear caller on phone call - can you help?

I have recently sold my OnePlus 3 but have a return request with the following message, see at end of this post.
They have an issue with hearing the caller when making phone calls. It's not a speaker issue as it 'works fine for a while'. It works fine on hands-free.
Has anyone had this issue, and can help me? Could it be a BT issue with the hands-free?
I've never had a problem with the phone but haven't ever had a hands-free device connected. An online help guide that I've read says to turn off BT devices as this could be the cause.
Obviously that's not a solution for him as he needs to use hands-free, but are there known issues with some BT devices? Incompatibilities, or anything I could suggest to him to fix the issue?
Here are the details that have been sent to me. Thanks!
'There is a fault with the phone, in that you can only make and receive calls when it s on hands free mode.
if it is not you cannot hear anything the person on the other end can hear you but you cannot hear them. unless you reboot the phone then it works fine for a while before going back into faulty mode again I have done a full factory reset and the fault is still there.
I wish to return this phone for a refund as it is clearly faulty.'

YES I WASNT THE ONLY ONE!!!!!
But I had this issue just about every stock and stock based rom. Even most custom roms. But there is hope I seemed to fix it, for myself at least, by flashing eliminators resurrection remix nougat rom. His rom build is my favorite I've ever flashed on a phone, PERIOD. if your new to custom roms get the open gapps mini package and remember to select arm64 on the far left row, 7.1 in the middle row and mini on the right row.
Great thanks for replying!
What model hands-free device were you using, out of interest? I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue.
I've had an update from the buyer and I was incorrect...
The issue doesn't involve a BT hands-free. (By hands-free, they were referring to using the phone's loudspeaker.)
----
The issue is that the phone's earpiece simply stops working.
It works for a bit after a reboot, but then stops working again.
I think it may be a hardware issue, given that they have tried resetting the phone, and so have given them a refund :'-(
I'm still hopeful that it will work ok for me. Fingers are crossed..

There are a couple of threads on XDA relating to low call volume. See if they help you.
One of the fixes is to clean the earpiece and the other is to flash a zip file.
