I would like to upgrade my phone but I do not know what version it is. It has been suggested that the app I need is: GN Official Update Checker
But I can't download it from store anymore (tried other sites too).

You don't need that app though. You can just look at your build.prop.
And if you're trying to just switch to yakju/takju, it doesn't matter what version you currently have.

i checked the link, url was not found.
Link works fine. Goes straight to the app in play store
its not there anymore. but yeah you can check in your build.prop

There is no custom version. Just download it from the Play store.You will be good to go

I'm not sure what your'e trying to do - it simply installed from the Play Store for me... and seems to be working like normal. I remember this from the T-Mobile HTC One, it was pretty cool. It backs up the data in addition to just the apk right?

Ya, I can't download from the Play store since I have a Droid DNA, but I'm running a m7 based rom without HTC backup. This works great!

The 3rd mirror link worked for me just now.
my M8 has been unlucked and rooted but i cant delete apps from system/app or system/priv-app. every time after the phone has rebooted, the apps which have been deleted are back again. what's going on?

Your rom doesn't have write protection disabled, that's special module build by @flar2 in order to work.
Also, you shouldn't post such questions in development thread.

Download it. Remove the .jar file name and leave it as a zip file. Update through system update as local storage.
