This is the Easiest way to root Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505)
ATTENTION PLEASE:
- Flashing Any Custom Recovery or Odin ROM with KNOX Bootloader from posts #1 & #2
WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!!! KNOX 0x1!!! (XXUDMH8 upwards)
- Use Chainfire's CF-AutoRoot if you want to root your existing Stock ROM.
- Custom Recovery is NOT included. If you need one, you will need to install it separately.
- DO NOT use CF-AutoRoot for Pre-Rooted ROM's as it can mess things up!!
Use it ONLY for OFFICIAL STOCK ROMs

Main benefits of using this method are:
- FULLY ROOTED/PATCHED
- KNOX FREE (software level)
- No need for Insecure Kernels.
- Complete, Odin flashable Packages.
- Can be used on Non-Rooted devices.
- Binary Flash Counter will NOT increase
- Only 1 file and you have a complete firmware including Root permission.

- SYSTEM/DEVICE - CUSTOM

Flashing instructions:
1. Install KIES or USB drivers from here
2. Download and run Odin from here (v.3.04 is recomended)
3. Make sure that ONLY AutoReboot & F.Reset Time is ticked in Odin options
4. Download and extract one of Pre-Rooted ROM's
5. Load extracted file (.tar.MD5) as PDA in Odin.
6. Turn OFF your phone, Press&Hold POWER+VOLUME_DOWN buttons until phone boot into Download/Odin Mode
7. Connect phone to the computer and WAIT for the drivers to be installed. You will see blue or yellow indicator in left top corner of Odin, with phone connected to port: COM:x
8. Click START and wait until you see GREEN indicator [PASS], flashing is finished
9. Unplug USB cable and enjoy.
10. Use Wanam Xposed and tick "Fake System Status" for working OTA and Official Status
FYI: ODIN has problems with flashing latest FW's and if WiFi doesn't work you MUST flash ROM again or use matching WiFi-FIX (post #2) to make it work.
How to use Auto-Scripts (ONLY for 4.3/4.4.2 - Odex ROM's):
1. Extract and copy contents of Xposed_SLIM_DeOdex.zip*** to the internal storage, example: PC => My device/Phone/"file+folder here"

2. Reboot - VERY Important!
3. After fully booting delete Script and folder!!!
4. Reboot - EXTREMELY Important! and ENJOY!!!

Flashing instructions:
1. Install Any Custom Recovery (Tested on PhilZ Recovery)
2. Download any of Pre-Rooted ROM's
3. Copy ZIP file to SD/ExtSDCard
4. Turn OFF your phone, Press&Hold POWER+HOME+VOLUME_UP buttons until phone boot into Recovery
5. Wipe DATA when coming from Odexed or Other Custom ROM
6. Follow On-Screen instruction and "Install ZIP from SD/EXT Card"
7. Reboot normally and enjoy!
When coming from different FW, you MUST flash WiFi FIX to make WiFi work again...
1. Reboot into Download Mode
2. Download WiFi FIX (Dev-Host) matching your New ROM (use MGA_WiFi_FIX for all XXUBMGA ROM's)
3. Extract it, open WiFi_FIX.tar.md5 in Odin as PHONE and flash it. (repeat if WiFi is still not working)
4. Enjoy
WARNING:
Do NOT use WiFi FIX from JB 4.3 on old NON-KNOX bootloaders from 4.2.2 (MH1 downwards)!!
It won't help and can break SOUND!!

- My bootloader is XXUBMGA
- My recovery is Clockworkmod
- I flashed XXUEMJ5 modem with odin 3.09 and it is working fine (only one flash, auto reboot enabled)
- You have to flash XXUEMJ5 modem in order to get data working
- If you flash XXUEMJ5 wifi fix you won't have sound anymore
- If you flash XXUBMGA wifi fix, sound is fine but you can't enable/use wifi
- I flashed XXUEMJ5 CWM with full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, format system)
- Before rebooting, recovery will ask you to disable recovery flash. Hit no otherwise you will lost root and you have to use CF-AUTO root to re-root the rom
Other than wifi, the rom is fully working, it is very speedy, titanium backup is working fine and also wanam exposed!
To get wifi fully working, dev needs 4.3 kernel sources, so please wait!

You need Linux OS (Ubuntu 32/64 Bit) for Pre-Rooting Process:
Preparation:
1. Create a working folder, for example pre-rooted, download and extract THIS (64 Bit) file and copy/paste (simg2img & ext2simg) into working folder.
2. Download SuperSu.zip from Chainfire's thread and extract all files to new folder, for example "root files". Copy/paste this folder into working folder.
3. Download any Samsung FW and extract it. You'll have a single file xxxxxxxxx.tar.md5, extract it again to new folder (keep name of the folder same as name of your FW, xxxxxxxx , it makes things easier to work with).
4. Go to the new folder and check if all files are there (5-10 files), look for system.img.ext4. If everything is there, copy/paste whole folder xxxxxxxx to your working folder /pre-rooted
5. Move system.img.ext4 directly to the working folder: /pre-rooted/system.img.ext4.
At this point, you should have following files/folders in working folder:
/pre-rooted/system.img.ext4
/pre-rooted/ext2simg
/pre-rooted/simg2img
/pre-rooted/xxxxxxx (folder with your FW)
/pre-rooted/root files (folder with extracted files from SuperSU.zip)
Pre-Rooting process:
Open Terminal and navigate to the pre-rooted folder, for example: cd /home/*username*/pre-rooted.
Step 1:
Convert system.img.ext4 into a raw system partition that can be mounted under Linux as r/w partition - system.img.raw
Type in Terminal and press Enter:

./simg2img system.img.ext4 system.img.raw
and wait until the process is finished, it takes few minutes....
Step 2:
Mount converted partition under Linux:
Type in Terminal and press Enter:

mount -t ext4 -o loop system.img.raw /mnt
Use any File Manager or just navigate to /mnt/.... and there you have full access to the system files.
Step 3:
Copy/paste or delete any files you want from/to system, for example root files:
Superuser.apk -> /mnt/app/Superuser.apk
su (binary) -> /mnt/xbin/su
daemonsu (binary) -> /mnt/xbin/daemonsu
.su (binary) -> /mnt/bin/.ext/.su
recovery.sh -> /mnt/etc/install-recovery.sh
libdummy.so -> /mnt/lib/libdummy.so (extra file, can work without it)
Step 4:
Setting up permissions.
Use Terminal, type and press Enter after each line:

chmod 06755 /mnt/xbin/su
chmod 06755 /mnt/bin/.ext/.su
chmod 0755 /mnt/xbin/daemonsu
chmod 0755 /mnt/etc/install-recovery.sh
chmod 0644 /mnt/app/Superuser.apk
chmod 0644 /mnt/lib/libdummy.so
Step 5:
Setting up SELinux markers (for JB 4.3 onwards).
Use Terminal, type and press Enter after each line:

Step 6:
Rebuilding system partition back into system_new.img.ext4.
Use Terminal, type and press Enter

./ext2simg -v ./system.img.raw ./system_new.img.ext4
Partition size will be automatically adjusted, according to the size of system.img.raw (it takes few minutes to finish)
Now, just copy/paste system_new.img.ext4 to your FW folder - xxxxxxx - and rename it back to system.img.ext4.
Repacking all files back to new_xxxxxxx.tar.md5:
1. Use Terminal and navigate to your FW folder: /pre-rooted/xxxxxxx
2. Packing it all up:
Use Terminal, type and press Enter:

this is example of complete FW for GT-I9505, all files (bootloaders, modems, etc..) are listed and included. Check your FW folder for correct list of files from your FW.
3. Generating and adding .md5 checksum:
Use Terminal, type and press Enter after each line:

md5sum -t I9505XXXXXX-PRE-ROOTED.tar >> I9505XXXXXXX-PRE-ROOTED.tar
mv I9505XXXXXXX-PRE-ROOTED.tar I9505XXXXXXX-PRE-ROOTED.tar.md5
That's it!! All done, you can now use Odin and flash your new, pre-rooted FW.NOTE: Make sure that you have Original FW on your HDD, just in case if your new FW won't boot up!

It wont work!There was already a thread started by asI9000 and it was proved not working.For the sme GT-I9500.So he closed the thread.The thing is that,SEAndroid will never allow you to root your phone.Whenever is sees su binary,It will go crazy and get into bootloop.There is no need to test and its almost everywhere.Read all threads containing root and you will notice that people already owning s4 will say not working/doesnt boot/phone went into bootloop etc...Only the public roms(what ever its called the rom which is in consumers phone.Not samsung developers) is rooted so far.Lets pray that SEAndroid is not in our consumer phones or else this method will probably never work.
It's all speculations as all those people was using pre-released versions, the OFFICIAL ROM was released yesterday....
Let's wait and we'll see.....
I'll drop it if can't be done.

Hmmm.... I've spoken with him and now I'm not so sure..... He reckons that the size was correct but overall re-packed system is different size.... weird issue... something new to deal with....
I'm going to focus on I9505. I've got new firmware installed, I'll try to pre-root it...

Just something which I noticed out of experience and also the world known fact.Linux calculates 1MB=1024B but windows is 1MB=1000B.And in linux its always higher than usual partition size but windows will give the correct ones which you get from df command etc...

Had similar issues myself rebuilding system. Let me know if you get a modified system to flash in ODIN, with or without root.
sudo ./mkuserimg.sh -s '/home/nprussell/Android/ext4_utils/xperia' ./system_4.img ext4 ./temp 2898264064
This also fails immediately in ODIN.

It sounds like we have "SIGNED" system.img.... If so, it can be Mission Impossible.... I was trying to modified cache.img but same thing happened if I touched "sec_csc.zip" ...
I've received my I9505 today so I can start working on it... running latest firmware...

Well... My I9505 have SELinux status: Permissive so root will be allowed....
The problem is with rebuilding system.img.... Normal way doesn't work as new images are smaller in size and rejected by Odin....

Hmm... I'm waiting for Official Stock ROM for I9505 to start work... In past I've used "make_ext4fs" to rebuild it and worked well...
Have you got a full system dump from i9505 by any chance?? Can be older than mine (XXUAMDF)

A set of various scripts that automatically generates Xiaomi firmware flashable zip files every MIUI new update!
My scripts download MIUI official ROMs, both Developer and Stable, Global, Europe, India, and China, extracts the firmware-update folder, generates firmware flashable zip with auto-written "updater-script", and uploads them automatically to many servers.
The scripts are completely automated, running on a Linux server every six hours.
Note:
File name's will be in the following manner:
fw_picasso_miui_PICASSO_*.zip is Redmi K30 5G (picasso) China firmware.
fw_picasso_miui_PICASSO48M_*.zip is Redmi K30i 5G (picasso_48m) China firmware.

What is Firmware? Is it a full ROM or OTA package?
Firmware is not a ROM nor OTA Package, it's a set of low-level drivers that helps the operating system do whatever it wants to do. It includes various things like Modem, Bluetooth, Bootloader, DSP and etc.
Why should I update the Firmware?
Firmware is provided from Xiaomi directly, and there are no sources for it to let developers build and edit it on their own like custom ROMs, so if you want to keep your device up to date always update your firmware!
Do I need updating the Firmware If I'm MIUI official or custom ROM user?
No, MIUI ROMs contain the firmware-update package which I extract and provide here.
What are the supported devices?
All Snapdragon and MTK devices including China-only devices.

How to update the firmware?
1- Download the package you want to flash. IT MUST BE NAMED WITH THE SAME CODENAME OF YOUR DEVICE.
2- Flash it using TWRP or any custom recovery. There's no need to wipe/format anything before or after the installation.
How to check the updated firmware?
Usually, the modem gets updated with newer firmware, you can check it in Settings > About > Baseband.
