[Q] sprint wiFi update?? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a email or text the other day from Sprint saying that i could get a app or something to let me run my wiFi and it not eat my batt fast???? I lost the link, any help? thanks!

I got the same one:
"SprintFreeMsg: Enable the Wi-Fi on your phone and improve your battery life by up to 50%. Visit http://sprint.us/wifi to learn how."
No app, just use WiFi instead of 3G. Yes, it uses a lot less battery (assuming you are connected, being disconnected and scanning constantly uses a lot more battery), and it lightens the load on their network.

My wifi doesn't disconnect when I'm on a call... I constantly use wifi on my phone while talking... it doesn't disconnect wifi

Yeah. Otherwise I could not use internet while on a call. This only works on wifi or 4G.

MMS on CM7

I have CM7.1.0 and I love it, the only draw back is that I am not receiving my MMS messages unless I manually turn off wifi and 3G on and then click download. Or if I am on 3G I still have to check if I have a message and if I do I have to manually click download. Can anyone help me with my problem?? Thanks!

Do you have auto-retrieve checked in the setting menu under mms?
Yeah I do that is why I'm confused lol

I know I had this issue a week or so ago. It only lasted of like a day tho. It just went away by itself and the only things i've since having that issue was updating my PRL (*22899). I doubt that did it but you never know!
I leave 3g on when connected to wifi. It just does it by itself.

I do the exact same thing. I was told, by someone, that wifi radio uses less power then the 3g radio.

Cellular radio off, but BT on?

Is there any wall to turn the cell radio off, but leave the bluetooth radio on? I have bluetooth headphones that I want to use at the gym, but there is almost zero cell signal there, so I want to turn the cell radio off so it does not kill my battery.
Any way to do it?

Try turning on airplane mode then turning Bluetooth on. It works for wifi, so maybe Bluetooth as well

Thanks. I had tried that while I was at the gym, but it did not work.
Mine seemed to work fine

I tried that, didn't work either. Don't know if there's a way to do it. You may have to just shut data off while at the gym.
yeah - shutting data off will probably help some, but the cell radio will still be boosting output looking for a signal and killing the battery.

MIUI v4. And you have to toggle Bluetooth on AFTER airplane mode cause turning it on turns them all off

Anyone figure this out for TW roms? I use the People's rom and would love this feature!
(i.e. being able to turn on airplane mode and then still be able to enable bt).

Does Wi-Fi calling always disable when phone deep sleeps?

It seems Wi-Fi calling disconnects when i leave my phone unused for a period of time. I'm thinking it disconnects when the phone deep sleeps. It usually takes 30 secs or so to reconnect.
This seems to happen on the 4 or so roms I've used in the last 4 or 5 months, but currently I'm using superbeast and TWRP recovery.

It's probably because your wifi is disconnecting when your phone sleeps. You need to change your wifi settings to keep wifi on during sleep.

i just double checked...It's set to always stay on. And it's not the Wi-Fi that turns off, just Wi-Fi calling.

I ended up turning my wifi calling off cause I can't ever hear anyone when it's on. This is the only phone I've ever had a problem with it on. As far as yours disconnecting when the phone sleeps, I have seen it before a few times but it usually reconnected immediately so I'm not sure if it's an ICS issue or what

[Q] WiFi turning itself on?

Anyone having problems with WiFi turning itself on automatically? I don't think I have any apps that I didn't have before that would turn it on by themselves.
Go to settings, more, connections optimizer. Turn it off.

Thanks!
Didn't realize that Sprint added this to decrease their traffic by randomly turning it on and draining my battery!
If it's the same as other phones, they claim it conserves power. It doesn't have to search for a signal.

From my three days of experience with it, it seems like it searches for a WiFi signal not often enough so you'll leave your house and then WiFi will be on for a while before it realizes there is no WiFi and then be searching for WiFi that whole time you're gone, waking up to do so. Not sure if it also searches for an LTE signal or not too.

WiFi automatically turns on when plugging in USB

Why does this happen and is there any way to stop it?

Go to:
Settings/ more settings / mobile networks / CONNECTION OPTIMIZER
then uncheck the box and that will disable the Wifi auto-connection. Hope that helps. I have the same issue the day i got my phone. =)

YES! Thanks, Jeff! I am using Tasker to turn all data connections off at night, but when I plugged it into the USB, it turned WiFi on and I kept getting alerts throughout the night. I understand the principle, but that was annoying.
Good ol sprint doing anything they can to get you to use wifi instead of thier bandwidth

well, wifi uses a lot less battery than 3g and way less than 4g. the optimizer is a good idea, but just works terribly.

Yeah, the Optimizer needs to be optimized.
