(noob) bricked acer a100 - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I know exactly what I did wrong. I tried unlocking the bootloader before I updated to ICS.
Now it's stuck at the green acer logo and doesn't seem to make any connections with the computer.
This is what happens when I try to get into recovery.
Erasing cache before SD update...
SD update cmd: recovery
--update_package=SDCARD:update.zip
Booting recovery kernel image
Any help would be appreciated

Yeah I've read through that. But he doesn't explain how he got fastboot to work. No matter what i try it refuses to make a connection to the computer.
And yes i have done the update.zip several times with different ROMS and of course the Stock ones. it always ends up saying
Erasing cache before SD update...
SD update cmd: recovery
--update_package=SDCARD:update.zip
Booting recovery kernel image
and then just hangs.

Updated OP with what is going on with the recovery.

Drivers
Verify you have the drivers for the A100 installed on your pc. Be sure to get the official ones from the Acer website... Windows acts like it may download and install the correct drivers but they dont work.
http://support.acer.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=3849

I've already done that too. When I connect it to the computer it doesn't even make the windows connected sound.

Has anyone figured this out? My friend bricked my tab the same way trying to unlock the bootloader on 3.2.1. Now its in APX mode. I already used abd to get the cpu id, but when I put it in, it says its the wrong one.

@JustinFields95: I met the problem like you when unlock bootloader in HC (before updating to ICS). Now my A101 is stuck on Acer green logo and I can not do nothing. Have you unbricked your A101 tab? Do you have any solutions for this case?
Thank you very much

That is the ACER recovery. As soon as a custom recovery is created you will be able to use the same tool to boot into the custom version.
I got the same icon too but I did not mess with it so I powered off. I'm guessing it uses the volume up and down keys and I'm hoping someone that knows about recovery can clarify this

You don't... Many manufacturers when they supply an update to the OS they "may" provide it in the form of an update.zip file. this file would be placed in the root of the SDcard and the system rebooted into this recovery. The recovery will look for the update.zip and apply it.
What I hope will happen is the Clockworkmod or another recovery is ported to the tablet that will allow us to create our own "update.zip" file (ROM). This way we can backup the system, install roms, etc...
So right now the built in recovery is useless to us users.

No. They're stock ROMs, not custom ROMs.
Just wanted to tell the OP thanks, you saved me after i hosed up my a100 by messing around with the build.prop trying to get HBO Go and Hulu+ to work.
For those who don't know, if you want to use the update.zip, you put it on the root of your External SD card, it does not go on your internal SD in the a100. Then boot into recovery by holding up on the volume rocker and powering up.

I worked really hard to flash it as well because I saw it as a way to flash my own custom system.img...
However, with the stock image, I couldn't get it to flash... same error... didn't like my cpuid... and I tried it many ways...
But, I think that is a good thing. I closely compared the A500 Upgrade Software with our A100 and it looks like the A100 package is using the same partition layout as the A500.... this is a worry because, in another thread, it's been reported that the boot and recovery partitions are larger for the A100 than the A500... So we should expect a different partition layout for the A100 - at least when it comes to size...
I think the EUU package maybe significantly predates some changes made to the A100/A101 before release.

The a101 rom was 3.2.1. When I checked in build.prop, the release date was October 11.
No obvious 3g stuff in Wireless networks except for Tethering.
I tried for the better part of a day to root the a101 rom... seems all the latest stock Acer roms (read a501) aren't rooting unless you can install something custom.

You gotta install adb driver for Nexus. For my computer, when I enabled usb debugging, it downloaded the driver for me (odd enough) but if your computer doesn't do that, you can Google around to get the exe file for you to install. Just make sure the Nexus has usb debugging on, or it doesn't let you install the driver (from my experience)

It doesn't matter what you're currently on. You will completely nuke your phone when you fastboot the images onto your device anyway.

So you got everything stock except the ROM? So you got stock recovery and everything? If you do, first of all, download the stock rom from google site (there should be few versions, that, you gotta find it out) then you need to download clockwork mod recovery (assuming that you got fastboot and adb) now just boot into cwm on your phone and flash the stock rom. By doing this, you're not over writing the recovery but you can still use the cwm
Also you gotta unlock first lol

You have a couple options here. Two that pop into my head immediately are download a custom ROM make sure it is for whatever device you have I.e. maguro, toro, toroplus. Boot into recovery and follow the directions in the ROM thread to install. Or download the stock images for your device and boot into bootloader and fastboot flash those. There are guides everywhere to do this.
Edit: forgot to mention that in recovery if going the ROM route you need to get that ROM. zip onto your SD card. Do it by mounting SD card in storage and adb push the zip to /sdcard.

Unlocked Bootloader for 10.3

Will there eventually be an app for unlocking the bootloader on the 10.3 firmware? I don't have the factory cable and it sounds like a lot of people have bricked their device doing the downgrade to 10.2.

But if I downgrade my bootloader I won't have to use the whole 2nd bootloader method and all that right? Won't I then just be able to use some utility to flash TWRP and then flash a ROM? This Kindle thing is probably a little more intimidating than anything else I've messed with. I have mine rooted and a bunch of other hacks but I want pure Android on. I don't want a brick though..

What about all that craziness I have been reading about locking up the bootloader due to the 10.3.1 bootloader? So, it looks like I have screwed something up. This figures as my luck is terrible with this freegin Kindle. So I got TWRP recovery working fine. I DL Cyanogenmod 10.1 and Gapps accordingly. Went into TWRP of course made a backup, then went to flash. I wiped EVERYTHING and went to flash the ROM. I received the error <Could Not Open .zip> So now I have nothing on file except a bad .zip. I did re-download the ROM assuming it was bad and restored my TWRP backup. Now I am stuck in what appears to be a Kindle Bootloop. The Kindle Fire (Orange) logo comes up, a few seconds later it blinks back off again and recycles. Now what? I can't get the Kindle to boot so I can put the .zip back on the machine. I am STUCK. This sucks... :crying:

It's on the way lol. Ordered it today. What is terrible is I thought I was doing the right thing by doing a backup up TWRP. Just in case ya know? It *usually* works. Now I just need to know the next steps so I can get back where I need to be. Thought I was home free with TWRP.

I did the exact same thing when i got my kindle back in January. (Yeah, i had to order my cable right after that )
For some reason I've never been able to restore a stock TWRP backup on the kf2. It always borks the bootloader.
I know there is a special requirement that our bootloader uses a file called stack on the system partition- that's why you can't get into recovery now (when you wiped the system it wiped the stack file which let's us run the second bootloader.)
Anyway, Once you have the fastboot cable its really easy to get things going again. Pm me if you need a hand.. I've been through this myself a few times lol.
If you ever end up in the same situation again where you wiped the system and the zip is bad... Stay in twrp and use "adb sideload" to push a good zip from pc.

I actually tried the side load through TWRP. When I typed "adb devices" it showed my device in host mode and the file wouldn't transfer although TWRP was in adb sideload mode. But then I just thought "oh well guess I'll restore my backup" lol. Yeah that didn't work out..
Sent you a P. M. BTW. thanks again!

Thanks for the info guys. I'm glad I didn't have to change the firmware. The whole process was super easy and now I'm running jb 4.2. For those reading, just root->install one touch apk->make backup in twrp->factory reset->flash rom and gapps->success!

**As a special note however DO NOT restore your factory backup if you have trouble. You will end up like me. Bootlooping with a fast boot cable in the mail.** if I could go back in time I would've downloaded the files via a hard line rather than slow wifi and maybe even double downloaded.. Oh well. This is a learning opportunity.
