Question for Sprint GNex owners - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am currently on the EVO 3D and just picked up the Epic 4G Touch and was planning on moving over to it. But, I just found a pretty good deal on the Galaxy Nexus and was trying to decide if I should skip moving to the E4GT and crack open the brand new box.
My question is about problems that the Verizon model saw. Also those coming from the 3D and E4GT what are you seeinghow battery life and signal strength compare to the EVO 3D and the E4GT.
Thanks

I had the Epic 4G Touch before this Galaxy Nexus and there are a lot of little things I miss about it:
-Better camera
-Flawless performance with live wallpapers
-Only 16gb but it has an empty MicroSD slot
-Display was gorgeous even at a lower resolution
-Better battery life
Having said that... I don't think I could go back to it. I love not having to flash a ROM to get vanilla ICS and the 720p display on this thing is a thing of beauty. Not to mention it is LTE ready. And what is huge to me is how the phone looks and feels physically. The Epic felt cheaper and more plastic-ish. And I love the soft keys.
I really don't notice much of a difference in overall signal strength. But if you look at my post history I posted a thread about 3G signal dropping a lot. It happens enough to be annoying but when it does I have had WiFi available so it's not a deal breaker for me.
EDIT: gray colors get a purple hue when the brightness is way down, but I've been told that's normal with this kind of display.

Thanks, those are good things to consider. Anyone else have any input?

I am really on the fence as to whether I want to go back to my epic or stick with my nexus. Last night there was an electrical storm here in Austin. I had my nexus and was filming the storm. My wife had her epic right next to me. The difference in quality was stunning. The video from my name nexus was almost un-watchable. The blacks were pixelized and the lighting was out of focus. On my wife's epic, the video was beautiful. The blacks were solid and the lighting was in focus and awesome. I like the phone as a whole and I am excited about LTE; but without LTE I am wondering why I switched at all at this point.

That is why I haven't broken the seal on the GNex yet. I love the clean ICS experience, but it seems like the E4GT really is still a really liked phone. I wish that ASOP and AKOP were a little more solid on the E4GT and then I would probably wait awhile longer for the GNex

I had an evo 3d for 4 months and an epic touch for 2 weeks. I like my evo since it came out but I was disappointed with the camera moved on to the 4s and it been my daily driver till I got my nexus... I own the epic touch in between and hated the slow camera (consider I was using a 4s at the time) and how wide it was compare to the 3d and my iPhone... I return the phone I don't like touchwiz is not my cup of tea... Anyways now I got my nexus Galaxy for 2 weeks... Backing actually felt like an upgrade from my 4s evn tho I could go back and forth but phones are great IMO the camera could be better and battery life was bad the first week finally decided to root and i'm just as happy as I used to be with myns rom on my OG evo I feel the google finally is getting android all together UI is so much better and I definitely can't go back to gingerbread or skin ICS I hope this helps you decide I'm definitely staying with this phone as my daily driver I know the evo lte is coming soon but it doesn't interest me as much

I enjoy my GN. I aint gonna lie but I do miss my EVO4g and what jgalan says nothing can go wrong with MYN's roms. Damn they were good. I had the chance to jump on the EVOLTE wagon but tried sense on my wifes EVO3d and I cant stand sense anymore. So I am good with my GN. If this purple tint gets worse as time goes by I gotz my insurance.

What phone is worth trading your Epic for?

I was just wondering what phones are better than the Epic because I honestly can't find one better lol.
I see qbking77 traded his Epic but I can't find proof that Nexus S 4G is remotely close to being better than the Epic.
We may have the best smartphone on the market or am I just crazy!

The plus for the nexus s, atleast from what I can tell looking from the outside looking in, is it has a more active dev community. And don't get me wrong I am in no way shape or form putting down our magnificent epic devs

Id get the nexus if I had the chance yes I love my epic still think its the best on the market right now but the nexus would be a change up and the dev community is blowing up its making it hard not to switch seeing how my epic can't even get a legit gingerbread release

Interesting question. I'm awaiting a replacement Epic, but the tech offered a Nexus instead. Maybe I made a mistake.. could have been a nice transition to the Epic touch.

Good question. For me, it will be hard to leave the physical keyboard. I love our Rom developers also, but I wish that there were more though.

I would consider the EVO 3D, Photon, or the Nexus S 4G at this point. I've actually been using a loaner NS4G for a couple weeks and while I do like it, I feel it has a few shortcomings. Most of them I was aware of beforehand though.
I miss the LED light to indicate when there's a missed call/text etc. You can bypass this with getting a special kernel which can allow you to activate the backlights for the capacitive buttons, but under flourescent lighting at work its sometimes hard to spot that.
Also there's no SD card so you are stuck with the 16gb of internal memory. Not necessarily a huge issue but for some people it could be a problem.
Samsprint already issued an update to fix wonky reception with their radios. It sorta helped mine out but it still doesn't seem to match what I was getting with the Epic. That goes for 3G, 4G, and wifi. Kind of a bummer actually and this is what sours me the most on the phone.
I haven't actually seen a Photon yet but after reading one of the threads here on the Epic forum about it, I would love to try it out. It sounds like the battery life (with moderate to heavy usage) is amazing. The only way I get decent battery life with the Epic is to turn it into a dumb phone.
The EVO 3D was actually a lot more impressive than I thought it would be. The 3D can cause a headache at first but once you find the sweetspot the 3D pictures and videos look amazing. It blew me away. My coworker has one after upgrading from the first EVO and he gets better battery life with it and he has the same apps and same usage patterns. So it is very tempting.
All in all there are a lot of good phones out there and its just a matter of preference and what you are looking for in a phone.
I'm going to have to recommend the EVO 3d. I was first concern about the lack of keyboard, cause I came form a long line of quarty keyboard phones. After the first week I no longer think about missing a keyboard. As far as the screen goes, the Epic is brighter. But the 3D is far more sharper and crisp. Sense 3.0 is a far better launcher then touch wiz or any other launcher currently in the market. Battery life on the 3D is 100% better then the Epic. Boy how good it is to, not have to worry about finding a AC outlet.
I would say just about any.
I am an htc fanboy so I would have to vote for evo3d which I have now. Even the original EVO 4G was a way better phone than the epic. Has it ever received the gingerbread update?

I went from 5 months on the Epic, had an Evo temporarily, and now Nexus S. The Nexus is by far my favorite, I plan on staying with a Nexus from here on. There ar things I miss about the Epic, but having a phone that you can do anything with is worth giving those things up. The Nexus flies stock, and you can run MIUI, CM7, stock, modified stock, the devs are close to porting Sense, and if you want they have tw4 available. I am using a modified stock rom right now and love it.

Really? You think the original evo was better than the epic? I had one and really didn't like it at all. Battery life was not as good and after a while it really started lagging with anything. When comparing to games on your phone the epic absolutely crushes the evo in my opinion. I'll also never be able to go back to a basic LCD again. The super amoled has me forever ...
I had the epic but bought the evo 3d. I loved the epic! But its no more longer the best on the market. It has a single core, all the phones now have a dual core. I love the qwerty keyboard on the epic! i miss it so much! If samsung made a 1.2ghz dual core, super amoled plus screen, qwerty kb, better software. Id deff buy that phone in aheartbeat. Love the epic. It deff was one of the best phones out. Best single core! Its so underrated tho! They never advertised it, it was never in the media. Thats why everyone thinks evo 4f is better than the epic bc sprint practically sponsored it! Epic never made it to the media! I'm now an owner of the evo 3d only for the devolopment, and love it!
-3D EVO-
Yes someguy, I think overall the EVO was way better than the epic. I never really play games on my phone so i can't compare that part of it but as far as running wise my EVO was always super smooth. I played with one or two epics and noticed lags here and there. I love sense so UI to me is totally more appealing than Samsung UI. Lots of people loved the epic but look at the support it got for gingerbread. Everyone has personal favorites though.

But the samoled is gross. I hated samsung. Would never buy their stuff. Phone died and it was the only decent phone in town in stock for sprint. So I got it. One month later...how do you like you GS2 ?

I am still on the Nexus-S 4G, but thinking of possibly upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S2, I love that screen and thin form factor For sure will upgrade if XDA can port ICS to it next month or two.
For the people that bought it last month, what is your honest opinion of the phone now that you have had it awhile ? Would you buy it again ? Are the network/signal issues as bad as I read ?
Thanks
So far my phone is working great, i did root it and installed barnacle wifi thether from the market and it works awesome! i do not regret buying this phone this is probably the best piece of hardware i have ever had and so far it has worked properly no dropped calls signal is strong (sometiemes the bars are misleading) but truste it works great! the screen is beatuful and coming from an evo3d this this is really light, i wouldn't trade it for an iphone 4s propably for a nexus prime lol also my battery life is great like 32% left after at least 38 hours with moderate to little use, and like 5-6 hours on heavy gaming.
hope this helps and sorry about my english, it's very basic lol
Best phone I've ever had. But I would wait for the upcoming ics announcement and see what the Nexus Prime/Galaxy on verizon offers before you make any purchase.
The only minor gripes I have would be the WVGA resolution, lack of NFC, and no LTE. Even with that said, I'm going to be a happy owner for the next two years. I live in an area with good Wimax coverage, so check your area before you buy any phone.
love the screen, very fast, miss all the 3vo Roms though
it's a great phone, not perfect, especially the Los,
but the new lost kernel fixes that
Thanks for all the honest replies. I had my heart set on the upcoming Nexus-Prime, but looks to be a Verizon exclusive to start, and I will not leave Sprint just for one phone, their plans are too pricey. Plus my Wife is happy with her Nexus-S. And I bet at the end of the day the Prime hardware will not be radically different than the Sprint GS2, except the nice HD screen.
But if XDA can port Android 4.0 ICS to this GS2, which I bet they will, since the Nexus-S 4G will be getting it, and the Prime is also a Samsung made device, I think the GS2 has a good shot at getting a port sooner than later ?
2+ weeks now and honestly I love the phone. Yeah it's got a few quirks but what phone is perfect? I love the phone and for what I've needed it more then covers it.
still amazes me everytime i turn on the screen. and take a picture...wait. even more when i shoot a video. i try to make it lag, it just ****ing wont..actually works awesome as a phone, has great speaker, nice and light..still my dream phone even after the newness factor wore off
I'm loving my E4GT. I came from T-Mobile LG G2X and that was great, but not as great as this phone. I bought this phone early this month and my only complaint is the LOS. With the LoStKernel fixing the problem, I'm going about 4days without LOS. Other things I love about this phone is the camera and the pictures. + 1 because I love taking pictures with my phone. Speedy processor, the screen can be a little better. This is just my experience with the phone.

E4gt by a long shot. Smoother ,longer battery life!
The epic 4g touch by a long shot. Samsung focused on software amd hardware instead of a gimmick like the 3d did and the nexus 4g is a great phone but it's out of date hardware wise.
Lots of other reasons, but those are the biggest ones.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Evo 3D isnt even used as a benchmark when comparing newly released phones, almost as if it is "old" hardware", such as the Nexus 4G Epic Touch IS the best device of 2011, IMHO it will beat out the Galaxy Nexus as well, once we have official ICS anyway. But by then HTC's Quad Core device will drop, making the Epic Tough "old hardware" If you want today's top of the line device, then its Epic Touch FTW!
I disagree on the evo3d not being a benchmark. A nexus feels slow compared to either of the other 2 other phones. When it comes to comparing a et4g and evo3d, u almost have to spend a week just you figure out what screen u prefer (i know people say a evo3d looks washed out when side by side). Truth of the matter is that both screens are terrific and depends on ur style. As for power, its like racing 2 new street bikes, both are plenty fast and to me, speed isnt a issue. The new sg2s actually has the same processor (almost) as the 3d. Now it comes down to the joy of using, and i pick sense everytime. Htc has of nice widgets that play well with sync'n ur accounts. Facebook is fully intergrated with everything. At the end, both phones dont leave much to be desired. U will be completely happy with a evo3d or et4g. Ill also add that the et4g takes.better pics, but also not 3d (so ur choice). To me 3d is great but i would trade cameras with the et4g if i could. I think the evo3d screen is way more responsive and feels alot better and smoother to use. This might not be a issue if u have never owned a sensitive device.
***i left out bugs and battery life because of it being a misleading issue. Xda is full of whinners who complain about every detail on both devices. Fanboys lie about battery life on both devices. Both make it thru the day and charge it at night.
No question the Epic Touch. I have had all three these phones. The EVO-3D was a major let down for the successor to the classic EVO 4G. I returned it after two weeks.
Bought the Nexus-S 4G and it was a cool little phone. Nice screen. Lightweight. Fast for single core.
Last week picked up the ET4 and man this thing feels and looks like a next gen device compared to those other two. Like those other phones feel years old. The ET4 has an amazing screen. Very thin. Lightweight...ridiculous long battery life. And the good ROM's are finally coming out.
For Sprint this is hands down their best device.

there are issues with EVERY phone. The prime will have its fair share of issues, hell, they just rolled out an ETA for nexus users to fix a volume but.
I wouldnt take any other phone except for the galaxy note. and even thats too big. The et4g will be in my hands for at least the next 6 months. its THAT good. Had the nexus, evo3d, tried the photon, there is no comparison whatsoever.
Also, no point in waiting on new phones, because guess what, after you wait, then finally make a purchase, something better is going to come out 2 months later.
This is a great phone and you will love it. It is super thin but doesnt fell cheap. It is much lighter than the Evo (I have held the 3D so I cant compare). Very fast and the screen is beauty. You can even see it clearly in daylight at a medium black light setting.
The only issue I am having with it is when I play a game on it it just closing the app because of a sound issue.
Here is the posting on google about the problem:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17623
And here is the possible solution to the issue:
http://www.grayfinstudios.com/post?id=ag1ncmF5Zmlud2ViYXBwcgwLEgRQb3N0GIHuBQw
But even with that problem the phone is still wonderful. I was looking at the Sprint forum a few nights ago and Samsung and Sprint are suppose to be working on a fix. But you know how that goes.
ive tried them all. epic 4g touch is bar far the fastest and best battery
Epic Touch 4G by a very long shot. The device is super fast and the stock rom is very well rounded. I am a flash-junky, and while my device is rooted, I am still running the stock rom. Even the default launcher is great, although I still prefer ADW Launcher. The device runs full flash and never laggy no matter what sites I go on. Even adult sites (just to test of course ). I can play every video type I've tried with the stock video player. Even AVI and MKV. Even things that my netbook has trouble running, the E4gT runs without a problem.

I have the E4GT, gave my Evo 3D to my wife. Nexus is coming out with new model called Prime.
E4GT vs Evo 3D = E4GT for sure.
Keep in mind E4GT has bugs for some people (including myself) loss of service and games crashing, a fix is "supposed to be coming soon". Even with this bug, I choose E4GT.
E4GT vs Nexus Prime:
Every aspect Nexus wins for me with BIG except the camera.
Note that in camera world 8mp vs 5mp doesn't matter, it's the lense. From the international version of Nexus Prime, the camera sux. This is a deal breaker for me because I take an average of 100-200 pics every month (like they say, the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it). UNLESS the Nexus Prime coming to Sprint I would guess around jan or February improve the quality of camera, I decided based on that.
Today's winner is E4GT. Tomorrow's winner is pending for me. If only I knew the improved Nexus Prime would be coming to Sprint, only then 100% Prime. Or if camera Quality is not important to you, 100% wait and get Prime...
IMHO

Just ordered the Sprint version, already second guessing it

I dont know if I made the right decision...should I have went with the Epic 4g Touch instead? Or waited for the Evo 4g LTE? I hate making big purchases like this, I always get buyer's remorse
You made good choice I am on Verizon so I can't tell you about Sprint's service but 4G should improve a lot for sprint.
I like having it rooted and getting all the updates my friend who has stock is still on 4.0.2 on Verizon he is with me on family plan though hopefully at least sprint does better job =]
What are you regretting? You have a phone that is almost top of the line (Dual instead of Quad core, really not that big of a deal). That will be getting the latest Android releases weeks (Or days) after release compared to months or years. Finally, a phone that will have dev support for it's entire life compared to phones that will only be relevant for maybe a year.
Why do you have buyers remorse about? Is there something you dont like about the phone before you have received it? The GN is a great phone that most love. If you like custom firmware you cant have a better phone or group of devs than this device.
I have a dont reason, I just always second guess myself when I buy a phone. Im coming from an OG Evo and I did the same thing with it but ended up loving it. Ive read so many good things about the epic 4G Touch, I almost went with it but went with the Nexus because its newer...just hoping I made the right decision. Cant wait to get my hands on it and get it rooted.
This phone out performs the touch. And the evo has broken multitasking. This is a great phone. You really can't go wrong with this phone... seriously.

Why would you choose the SGS2 over the GNex? You're being paranoid.
Thanks, you guys are definitely helping and easing my mind
I personally think you made the right choice, remember you have a week with the phone to decide if you like it or if you dont. I bet you will.
I was also second guessing this or the Evo but here are some reasons I took the gnex over the Evo.
1. NO F'ING removable battery. This is a must if I have to endure using it for at least two years. Batteries degrade and it would be useless a year in.
2. LCD not an amoled. I don't like LCD they don't produce colors like our phone and blacks as well. Regardless of everyone saying its good... they must be blind.
3. Sense 4.0 no explanation needed... sense is retarded.
4. Google support. Although limited (cdma) this phone will still receive faster updates.
5. Rootabliltiy. It was soo easy to root and your not limited. For HTC the only way to unlock is to void warranty and even then... you have to worry about hboot versions. No thanks. You may void warranty by unlocking this phone but you can always relock it nor use an exploit to root without unlocking.
All in all this phone is the obvious choice.

hi
How's the radio and signal strength compare to nexus s 4g?
I'm tired of having almost no bars most of the time.
I went from Sprint and the Epic 4G Touch to Verizon and the Galaxy Nexus. I do not regret either move.
Was the E4GT a good phone. Sure was. Is the Galaxy Nexus a better phone. Sure is. There is nothing to regret about the GNEX and I would not buy a phone today on Sprint that is not LTE.
I am sure Sprint will one day change their data plans and go to tiered data when people switch to LTE phones. If you get in now with unlimited LTE, you should at least be safe until you complete your contract. Then at that point they will either allow you to grandfather it because you already have an LTE device or they can pull what Verizon will be pulling.....
Also, why buy a phone with Wimax when Sprint no longer building it out. What you see is what you get. Nothing improving on that end.
Only other phone I would even look at for comparison is the SGS3. Then it comes down to Pure ICS or Touchwiz. Either way, you will still end up with a great phone.
One thing I can say with owning a GNEX is I don't feel the need to purchase every new phone announced which is a big thing compared to every other phone I have owned. There is something about owning a Nexus device that makes you not care what other phones have.....Really cannot explain it but you need to own one to understand.
Only thing I wished was the GNEX had the camera from the SGS2. Then this thing would be perfect but, in this world nothing is perfect so you need to settle to the closest thing!
You won't regret it. I switched from the Sprint E4GT to the VZW GNex and haven't regretted either move at all. Like eman3316 said, I have not wanted to rush out and buy every new phone on the market since owning the GNex, which is something I can't say for any other device I've owned including the Nexus S. I always wanted the next better phone to come out, but I no longer spend unnecessary money on unnecessary phones.
I don't understand people on this thread at all. Yes I definitely love my Nexus but I'd much rather have the EvoLTE. I'll give you some reasons why you shouldn't have gotten the Nexus and maybe you can rethink.
1. AMOLED screen. Amazing right? Eh...not anymore. I've had two replacements, the first of which had awful banding and a purple tint at low brightness. Also, the image of the status bar and keyboard were permanently burnt into the screen. While the screen is sharp, it definitely can't best the new Evo due to its full RBG matrix. The colors are uneven and look "dirty" at low brightness. A post on the first page said that color reproduction was better?? Nope, more saturated but not better. AMOLED used to be touted as power efficient but with this huge screen it is the opposite. These reasons are why the EvoLTE wins the screen comparison.
2. Camera...not much to say here. The camera on this thing absolutely blows. My girlfriends OG Evo takes better shots. I think the camera on the 4S still has a slight advantage over any other Android handset but the EvoLTE is right up there and could probably be improved with new software releases.
3. While the CPU/GPU combo isn't by any means slow, the S4 is faster by a mile and is more power efficient. It handles the 720p resolution like a champ. Whenever I go back to stock 4.0.2 my Gnex definitely has hiccups and lags compared to my current setup.
4. Due to CDMA licensing, Samsung has crappy software for CDMA radios. Everyone talks about how a new software update or radio will help but it never does. Its no use, Samsung just has crappy radio support. If you like dropped connections and fluctuating signal then the Gnex is for you.
Now I seem to hate the Gnex huh? Not really. I'm just simply stating the truth and that I believe the new Evo is a better investment. If the Gnex was $99 that would be a different story. Quick software updates can be nice but I'm on Verizon so I don't know what that's like.

I switched from the Evo 3D to the VZW GNex...at first I wasn't sure if I really wanted to switch from Sprint...but once I got onto the LTE network...those doubts QUICKLY went away. I thought about getting the Sprint GNex...but the loss of 4G for an extended period of time didn't sit well with me, especially since Sprint's 3G network practically sucks.
I can see that being the only drawback of getting it on Sprint.

1. This amoled... needs tweaking... when the rgb and gama are tweaked in ROMS it is perfect... i have perfected it anyways... i do agree this amoled is off. But that LCD is crap... i dont like blacklit things... my LCD tv has two giant burn ins so it doesnt just happen to amoleds.
2.This camera is f'ing amazing.. your f'ing blind... go check out the post pictures from your gnex thread... your jaw will drop. The og evo... no just no...
3. UM what? Duh what do you expect... this phone is not built for preformance it is meant for openess... having a closed architecture processor such as the S4 is pointless just wait... it will be 6 months before that thing sees the light of day of the next android version. Where it will be sitting on our front door when it comes out.
4. I dont agree... this is all on location... if you live in a place that is known for crappy service then yes it will drop more than other phones. If you live in a place with "normal" signal then you have nothing to worry about.
The gnex is the better phone all around... the HTC is for the fanboys of HTC not us.
I definitely understand what you coming from the evo LTE is a good looking device but sense kills it for me plus having own evos in the past besides group they take like 8 months to release the new updat and ain't detailing with that anymore plus stock ICS is the best OS yet for android and jellybean will be game changer and unless you wanted 6-8 months later go for the evo the camera in this phone is just right I take pics only for sharing on Facebook to my family and there good enough sure is not the best but look at the pluses on this phone

[Q] Should I upgrade from Epic 4g Touch?

The Galaxy S 3 has been out for a while now. If you upgraded from the Galaxy S2 - Epic 4G Touch.....was it a worthwhile upgrade? Would you do it again? I'm pretty happy with the Galaxy S2 which I rooted and customized to my liking. I'm wondering if it's worth going with the S3 now or should I just chill out and hope for a next generation Samsung when my contract expires.
If you asking about it you may as well do it. Galaxy s3 is the ****
Apple just give up the IPHONE sucks deal with it.
I upgraded from the e4gt2. The g3 is a much better phone! Definitely worth it!

Wait for the SIV
Its a nice upgrade from the s2. Better battery, lte, smoother.

Had the E4GT. The S3 is much faster. The Epic had probably the best WVGA screen you could get, but it doesn't compare to this HD action. Battery life is definitely better. GPS on my Epic kinda sucked, this one has an accurate lock within 4 seconds. camera: no comparison. Having zero shutter lag makes a huge difference. But the best surprise so far is how good the Samsung devs have done with JB. After going from GB to ICS with the Epic Touch, I was afraid they would screw it up again with the S3. Honestly I'm shocked at how good the LIH leak has been for the S3. I think they did a nice job.
Once LTE rolls out, the S3 will be even more fun to use.. As opposed to the Epic, where the wimax signal was always very weak once indoors.
Having said all that...its just a smartphone. If you hold out a bit longer, you could score something even better.
Wait. Quadcores are literally weeks away.

My son threw my Epic Touch in a toilet,i revived it but it only works right when plugged in.This made me upgrade to S3.
If you ask me its not worth it.
Here is my list of pros and cons.
Pros:
1 S3 is faster but not by much
2 It has NFC,i never used it even once
3 Images are sharper due to higher resolution
4 3 buttom buttons feel better then old 4 button layout
5 Bigger screen
6 Much better camera
Cons:
1 Epic Touch has better screen i dont care what anyone says.Yes S3's images are sharper but only due to higher res and not screen quality.Epic had better black levels and better colors.Im a screen junkie and base all my decisions on which phone has better screen,i own Epic,Epic Touch and two S3's-Epic Touch has best screen i seen so far(i only buy amoled and dont like lcd's).
2 Touch has better outer build quality
Put it this way if my Epic Touch was still working i would not had upgraded to S3.
Upgrade only if you care about camera quality, use NFC,or just want bigger screen. Is S3 better phone?Yes but its not a big leap forward like it was from original Epic to Epic Touch.Overall i would say that i would not upgrade, because they are both smooth phones and i dont know why but i.just like Epic Touch better.
Just got mine last week, and yes it is worth it.

I agree with everything here except the camera. I found the Epic Touch produce much better pics for me.
I too feel the Epic have a much better screen. The resolution on the GS3 is good but the color and brightness is not very good. I know cause I still use them both.
I do use the GS3 more because the battery life is far superior than the Epic Touch.
I came from a E4GT also, I loved mine, but the S3 is the better out of the 2.

Wait for the quad 4s or a quad 4 800mhz lte flavored phone if you can. They should be here by December not with standing a GS Nexus ready to drop as well..
No. I came from the E4GT, and as much as I like this phone, the only thing that I'm using on here that the E4GT didn't have is NFC.
Wait for the next iteration of the galaxy series, or get the new nexus. I only got this because I essentially got it for free out of contract, so unless you're in that same situation, I see no point in dropping a crap load of money on it.
Great thread f,sure thanks for feedback.
I'm a ET4G owner looking to upgrade to GS3 or GNote2....not sure which way to go but can tell you this , LTE should be rolling strong in my area by months end & I want to use it.
Waiting for November release of Note2 makes me nervous due to talk about Sprint doing away with unlimited data/price hike.
I made the same switch on Monday, and my sister got my E4GT so it's no going back. Overall I love it, to me it's way better. I actually even like some of the TouchWiz features like the lock screen(but I still use Nova Launcher. I've used it on every rom I flashed on the E4GT, even roms like CM10 or AOKP).

I actually thought the screen is better on this one. Touch was good and colors may have been more saturated, but it did have some jagged edges at times. SGS3 is also more customizable. Touch was good but the recovery attached to the kernel always annoyed me.
I personally would wait for the next nexus

You have jagged edges because Epic has lower resolution.Like i said only thing that is better on S3 is resolution,Epic still has better screen but lower resolution make it seem inferior.
Try Density Changer on Epic and you will get same rosolution as our S3.There is a thread on xda about best settings.
