Planning to get a HTC one V, advice please. - HTC One V

Hi guys I currently have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S. I am thinking about changing to the one v.
Basically I want to hear what you all like about the phone and discuss any issues the arise with the phone either hardware out software wise.
Overall I'm really please with my arc s but just fancy a change for another good looking phone with descent specs. Will really miss 8MP camera and 1.4gz processor. But opinions about what the 5mp camera is.
How smooth is the phone?
lastly, I'm not a huge fan of custom ROMs, but I do like a bit of modding so root is really important. But I don't want to unlock bootloader. This is something easily done in arc. We can have root access without unlocking bootloader. Is this available on one v yet?
Anyway overall pros and cons please. And hopefully look forward to joining community here.

Don't own the phone personally but I was very interested in one until I heard that the call quality and volume isn't great at all so as an actual phone it's supposedly not great

Personally having owned the phone I don't believe that's true at all, for me there was no issue regarding actual phone calls. I thought the quality wasn't bad at all and I could definitely hear the other person clearly. xD

For what I paid I really like mine. Great size, great screen, no issues, smooth enough although pushing the CPU hard enough will make it hesitate.

Thanks XDA

This is just a note of thanks to all of the great Developers and generally helpfull people on XDA (you know who you are), who have helped and guided me with any and all problems and questions that I and many more people have had.
+1 THANKS to all
i second that..... we have a great community here on the desire forums and some even better developers!
without this community my phone would not be as awesome as it is now
Thirded!

on another note..... woooo i have my first bar on the thanks meter!
+1 here grateful for this forum and the work being done here.
+1 Thanks XDA
me2...thanks to all these roms which keep the phone fresh and new whole the time i'm not thinking on buying new phone just after few months of use...that's something new for me...
thx to all devs and modders!!
I remember a time when I used to play around with my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic at the dailymobile forums and how much freedom it felt. Now that I've got a Desire, it's got a hell lot more compared to my Nokia's freedom, thanks to all the devs in here.
Great help here , can find solution for most of the issue related to HTC desire here . Thanks All
Hmm... Due to my new found respect for rooting and custom roms (and the age of my loved Desire), I'm thinking of buying a Sensation.
Any thoughts/feelings about moving from a Desire to a Sensation?
Cheers

I agree completely - I've been a lurker on here for quite a while and thanks to the info on the site I've managed to turn my Desire from a good phone into a GREAT phone... even though it's getting on a bit now, thanks to custom ROMs there's still plenty of life left in the old girl yet!
This Community is just amazing. I like to thanks the Devs. You inspired me to root and mod my mini pro, my Sisters X10 and my Friends Arc. Keep up the amazing Work!!!

No, some of us do help people you know
Missed the point.
Perhaps you could elaborate?
This thread was started a month ago, and was aimed at the generally helpful people on here who go out of their way to help others who don't have the technical knowledge that some of the more experienced members have. And although the development on the Desire has slowed recently, there are still some devs who are willing to spend their own time trying to better the Android experience on this handset for others.
Yes, i'm sure it is not the same place it was a year ago, but some on here still deserve thanks for what they are doing.

Not sure what you started it for. But I'll throw in my two cents. This is a very poor structure and destroys the ability to easily locate what you are looking for, by having to scramble around through every other device's development and questionaire to locate what you want.
I am disappointed in how this was done. devices should maintain their own section and not be merged, the only thing that should have been merged is the shared development of working roms, mods, themes. That is it!
To be honest this is the worst I have ever seen!

Dear sir,
I frequently visit the XPERIA ION & X10 forums. I always help keep both clean & organized with the help of the report button and the moderators. However my Ion thread has been grouped with phones that don't have compatible software. Can you please separate the general, Q&A and apps & themes forums of Xperia Ion, S, ARCO S. I always try to help users with there problems. However now with all the threads mixed up, not properly labeled, it will be harder to use the search feature. Also in an attempt to help mods clean up 3 phones forums, they will be over run with requests for thread maintenance. This will actually create more work.
I was also wondering why the Samsung sgs3 gets 5 seperate forums based on carrier service. In the Ion forum we help with the 4+ models all in the same forum. I don't know but seems like the Sammys are spreading out while you round up the Sony's.
Please take no offence, none is meant. All of XDA mods and admins do an awesome job and thank you.

Hi
Well unofficially, it seems Sony want to work with us, which is good, but they wanted some re-organization done, which might suit their purposes more than ours. It is not me but another Admin who is dealing with this. The User Experience Admin Svetius, he might be able to tell you more. As I understand it the changes will take quite a long time so it very likely is in a mess at the moment, but may get better.

This was truly a bad decision, especially without letting the contributors at least know about it ...... and maybe offer input.

I think it is nice if sony wants to help with unlocking bootloaders or rom development on a "unofficial" level. Maybe now we can get those l28at unlocked and get some stuff cooking.

I'll agree that it's not ideal how things have been bunched together how they have, but the admins have clearly done this for a reason so no amount of moaning will change that.
Instead, we just need to make the most of it and make it as easy as possible for us to navigate our way around.

I hate this - usually when I got in I can tell which thread I haven't read and if i can help or not. Now I have to navigate to which specific related to me or my device. Total mess....probably gona be less input now - just sick of it. Understand what the mod here mentioned nothing can change. But i need to vent it out.
What is Sony gona do? This is user forum for god shake, manuf. sure will not push the limit. So what is there to look for !!! Just a poor decision from the Admin, no-respect for the users. At least a poll or something - this is a democratic country! AT&T already down grade a good phone (Ion), now XDA is doing the same. What a disappointment !

Now this is getting confusing. You make it sound like Sony is washing their hands of all things Ericsson. So while all upcoming midrange phones get there own forums, 3 current top end phones get the shaft.
There are a lot of people moaning over this. I think a restore from back-up is looking good. At least seperate all the sub-forums out by phones. Please give us back the general, Q&A, themes &apps for each phone separately.
I never thought I would hear that XDA is trying to make Sony feel more welcome by making it harder for current members to use the web site.
I wish I could say that all the info given about why this happened makes XDA look like it is helping members, but this just helps future Sony phones. I will be asking members active in our combo forum to write you with their concerns. Maybe if we yell loud enough Sony.... I mean XDA will hear us
Sorry for my rants, again.

After reading it again you may be correct.
But it comes down to the fact that XDA is a user forum. If Sony came to XDA and said rearranged your forums. I would like to think we would here about it and possibly be able to give feedback first.
Anyways I have sent it. But sadly I don't think one member moaning and spamming an admin is going to do any good

Help with my thread
I was just re-reading this thread. LOL, LMAO, WOW what attitudes we all had after the merger (just kidding). Well I think that it has all worked out for the better, so far More people means more brain power I still just wish there was some heads up from the admins.
ANYWAY that was not the reason for my post here. I have re-worked MY OP FOR THE RECOVER FROM SOFT-BRICK THREAD to include all 2012 XPERIAs, not just for the ION anymore. I need some feedback from people that have recovered from soft-brick on different models and the ION. I would love all input, stories, posts, advice, etc... for all models of XPERIA. I want to make my thread as helpful as possible for as many XPERIA owners as I can. You can PM me or just post in the recovery thread.
THANK YOU for the help,

Direction/Assistance

Hey, I realize that probably none of you want to have to deal with stupid questions like what mine most likely are, but I'm going to ask anyway. I bought this One X mid august, and have been slightly mocked by some friends for not having unlocked/hacked my phone yet. I myself am unsure of what it is that I need to do, or which OS I should even choose. Any advice, guidance, or even redirection would be greatly appreciated. I apologize for my inexperience and warmly welcome any advice or reprimanding given.

Grow some balls and make your own decision on whether you want to root or not.
If you decide to (I decided not to, due to very restricted consumer protection laws here) then I recommend ARHD.
Wait for the official over the air Jellybean update.
Don't bother trying to hack your phone until after HTC have released the JB kernel source. Spend some time reading up in the meantime.
I say this because you''ll probably impress your friends more by having a phone with Jellybean on it, than having a bricked phone in HTC repairs.

I was that at one point also, when the G1 came out and JesusFreke was making roms, and people had to use ADB to obtain root and be able to flash things. I learned since then and read and read and read. The problem now a days is that most don't care to read a little, or at all. Most of the questions asked in a thread are answered, or been discussed, or don't even belong in the dev section. This is extremely aggravating to the devs, or themers, when they right up a huge OP and no one uses it, and just clutters up their dev thread with useless questions and/or nonconstructive criticism. I don't blame him for quitting or locking the thread, if people feel it's at its prime, then leave it alone and don't touch it anymore. Most of the TouchWiz roms have the best version yet to come, or they came and went a while ago. Most of the mods they incorporated are flashable on your own, anyways. Thank him and respect decisions, or use one of the other 10+ TouchWiz roms.

Jesusfreke was the pioneer of modding for Android. Without him I believe that we would not be as far with android as devs, manufacturers, or even android its self.
Look at thouchwiz its self with the toggles in the notification Window. This came from cm. We the community can end up pushing for devs with true innovation to go back underground where their work is not seen in mass people, Google, or manufacturers. Then android may end up missing what could become greatness all for petty arguments. I follow one such dev in a private forum and it's a shame he was forced to by thing like this.

Thanks you for being civil about it, but the time for this thread has expired.

Not seeing much activity lately..

I have been over on the nexus 4 & 7 forums lately, not saying much, many already have beat me to the punch and I miss the days when I was able to help more with the devs of the Cappy glide.
This phone was so much like it's predecessor, the one difference, we had a small community compared to nexus and the sgs Cappy..
So are there any devs going on that could use some beta testing? Known issues would be a bonus, but as always, not as much fun to know about.
I want to put back cyanogenmod 4.2.x because everything I had worked except the Bluetooth which was needed for my stereo Bluetooth creative labs headset but, my nexus can be used for that..
So please shoot me a pm or a friend request. Thanks.
