Honest Opinion Guys - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Sold my nexus s not too long ago.
After that i have owned a G2X, HTC Sensation, and an HTC amaze.
Once u go amoled, using LCD is painful.
So my question is, would you pick the tmobile galaxy s 2 over the one s?
i am leaning toward the s2(white, screen size, samsung, removable battery/sd), but what about the phone annoys you?, and what can you tell me about the phone that i wont know until i use the phone?
thanks

The one s uses amoled as well.... Except it's a qHD super amoled. I would still go with gs2 because of expandable memory and removable battery. Tmobile is getting the gnote soon as well.. Tough decisions my friend
The main issue in the phone is the screen issues I.e. dark blob spots and screen burns pretty easily you can really only notice the blobs when the screen blacks out and the backlight is on, other than that the phone is friggin bad ass. The only reason I would get the one s would strictly befor the camera. It's prolly thebest camera that's out for any smart phone. Amazing is one word I could describe it. Especially since it records 1080 p video with 60 Fps and ours does 30 Fps

But in all honesty get the sgs2 you can't go wrong with that. ; )

the problem with the g2x, sensation and amaze is that they started using cheap LCD screens that sucked when viewing from angles. The previous phones with LCD wasn't bad though.
Anyways if i was you, I would wait for the prices to drop just a bit more if you decide to go with the gs2. The one S,X should gain popularity soon and the s3 is nearing.

At least if the one X comes out on tmobile it wont be a blocked boot loader like the at&t HtC one X. Which I think is ridiculous. If the one s had at least super amoled hd and sd card slot. I would of jump shipped.

Yeah I'd probably jump ship to the one s but the no external memory is a deal breaker for me

No i would say htc phones have the most support on t-mobile. Look at the sensation, Htc G2 even mytouch 4g. Since hardware doesn't change much. Samsung phones on the other hand less support due to different hardware. So as long as you stick to an htc phone you will be fine on t-mobile.

OK, but does the support compensate for better experiences than Samsung roms developed by people?

wait what? you do realize that htc devices usually gain a swarm of developers right

gs2 is my favorite phone so far after having t-mobile mda, touch pro 2, galaxy intercept, and htc hd7. one of my job responsibilities is hooking up phones to the exchange server so i get to play with lots of phones from different companies/manufacturers. the only thing i've seen that i'd currently take over my gs2 is the galaxy note but good luck with t-mobile getting that anytime soon.

If you care about removable storage and battery no contest S2, or wait for the S3 sometime in June if Samsung sticks to their word. If you want a better resolution screen and faster phone with a tiny bit smaller form factor go with the One S.
Only thing that annoyed me with the S2 hardware wise was the lower resolution screen and the blobs and streaks (edit: and that damn chrome around the phone, scratches before you even hold the phone) aside from that great phone and is now getting some great dev support. HTC One S just released so it may take a bit for support to come, but there is already a working AOKP ROM for it so I'm sure it won't be much longer til support kicks off for it. Either way you're getting a great device

I never really thought about it but this made me think...what about the S II do I not like? I couldn't think of one thing! Its just awesome! My wife has the G2X...its been warranty replaced 4 times in a year. Twice touch screen stopped working, the other 2 beacause of the overheating issues. With the last update they just released for it nothing's really gotten better. Her battery still only lasts at the most 4 hours with moderate use.
I guess this wasn't really your question I just had to vent. Galaxy S II in my opnion is the way to go.

Hi guys, I was thinking about to get this version of GS-II (t989), but i´ve heard so many bad things from the owners that I don´t know what to do anymore... So if anyone could help me on this, answearing these couple of questions, I´d very thankfull.
1) Is this screen issue that big deal?? does it happens only with T989 version or the others GSII were affected also?? Is there anything I could do test the screen before buying one (like putting a fully black, gray, white pics on display...)?
2) How is the audio quality on it? Are you guys satisfied?
3) About the camera, that is something I REALLY care on smartphone, I´ve heard it´s a bit different (some people would describe it a bit "worse") from the international GSII- 9100, due its Exynos chipset. However, judging by the samples i´ve seen, the only difference i could notice is that the colors tend to be yellowish on t989 -as the opposite, bluish from 9100. But how about the rest, focusing, details... are they exactly the same??
Thank you guys!!
PS: I´m coming from an Xperia Neo, and I don´t like its camera that much and the audio quality as well.

[Q] Which one phone to get?

Well, right now I have the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G.... My wife and I went into a T-Mobile store today and they informed us of a new plan they had that would save us about $100 a month. So, me, being the person I am, asks if the new plan will mess up my upgrade for my phone.... And lucky me.... Instead of waiting another 8 months for an upgrade, the new plan will actually allow me to upgrade then
So, long story not so short...
I am debating between the Samsung Galaxy S2, OR the HTC Amaze.... I was just curious as to why, if you already own the S2, you would or would not suggest it to someone? Thanks for any input in advance!
SGS2 hands down, best phone out for T-Mobile right now.

I expected biased answers... That is why I posted the same thing on the Amaze forum... What I am looking for is a more in depth on WHY people love their phone's so much... And what are the big things for them to keep them.
From a development standpoint, our SGSII has more support, kernels, roms and themes than the Amaze. Also CM has been confirmed for our phone as Cyanogen said it himself. I'm not exactly sure for the amaze as I don't visit their forums often. Imo, SII is the way to go if you like a variety of roms to choose from.

HTC has horrible quality control, their battery life on the amaze is ****, it's ugly, bleeding key lights, it's ugly, it's a sensation in a new case overclocked to 1.5.
The galaxy s2 is beautiful and the screen is awesome. It does have the vertical lines, but I think those can be fixed with a software tweak. The battery is crazy good and the phone has no bleeding key lights. Also the amaze is ugly, did I mention the amaze is ugly?

I so far have loved every single HTC device I have ever owned.... (Ok, I take that back... The HTC Shadow sucked balls... Damn Windows phones) I also don't think the Amaze is that bad of a looking phone... What vertical lines are you talking about... I had read about the screen bleed on the Amaze, but I haven't read anything about vertical lines
I went SGII for divx support. I guess it's not really a big deal though to most but to me it was.
I think the SGII will have a longer life than the Amaze because of developer support.
Plus I had heard that battery life on the amaze is pretty horrible. I wanted to make it through a day of work.

So it's pretty much just the random things that can happen with any phone if you just happen to get the bad apple? And I really don't mean for it to become that, if it does, I apologize to the community... I should just change it to, tell me what you love about your phone, and what you think a con is, if it has any... And leave out the story behind it
sgs2 all the way!! just read both forums and u will see
LOL
way to convince yourself to get a SGS2, posting in this forum you'll know the answer will be biased
You pretty much already know you want the SGS2, but you want to reaffirm the believe by finding out if there's any issues you should know about.
if you check the sticked INDEX you'll find out most of the issues
hope that helps!

You should definitely get the gs2. I came from the sensation and this is a way better phone. I know the amaze has the bump up in ram and the better camera (compared to the sensation) but I guarantee this phone will blow it out of the water. The sensation I had had no problems besides overheating so I was skeptical about the gs2 being that much better but it is. I also like the build quality of the gs2 which I didn't think I would. Oh another thing is sense is such a memory hog and the novelty of it was cool for the first week but after that I wanted aosp bad. So yea I think you should just go with the gs2 you won't regret it. And the vertical lines aren't really an issue its there but not noticeable in everyday use. I can really say that besides the vertical lines this phone has been perfect.

I can plug in my one gig hard drive full of 720p mkv movies and play them with out a problem what so evar! My tegra2 transformer cant do that, nor can my playstation, or my 360. Not sure about the amaze. One thing I am sure of between the two we will be getting ICS well ahead. With no crappy overlay, not that I dont like sense, just no point of it. With ICS all widgets are scrollable.
Coming from a sensation,.the sgs2 is a great improvement. The amaze to me is an ugly phone. The amaze also seemed extremely heavy. I could see chipping the elevated glass on the phone, and after going through several sensations, same as the amaze, with different problems well enough said. I'm extremely happy with the sgs2.

You have to know what you want in a phone to make your decision. Both phones has its pros and cons.
Galaxy S II Pros vs Amaze 4g:
Longer battery life, larger screen, louder speaker, does not/barely overheats, 2 megapixel front facing camera, better video playback/audio, no death grip issue with signal (both wifi and data), lighter materials with a premium feel means you can hold the phone in your hand for long periods of time without strain.
Galaxy S II Cons vs Amaze 4g:
Screen resolution isn't as great as the Amaze, the design looks much more rich on the Amaze, the Amaze has a slightly better camera especially in low lighting, the Galaxy S II does not have hardware camera and camcorder buttons like on the Amaze, No LED notification.

I sold my AT&T note yesterday to get a unlocked Galaxy Nexus. Thought about getting a one X but I mean a almost $800 unlocked price is a bit crazy for a HTC I think.
Plus I never used a HTC and even though sense 4.0 looks cool I'm not a big fan. I Bought a nexus to get the pure ICS experience without a overlay.
If anything wait for the Galaxy S3 if your gonna drop $800. Oh and beats by Dre mehhhhhhh. I'm not 18 lol.

The way I see it the cons are:
- slow updates from HTC
- no Super AMOLED screen
- Sense
- bloatware apps
- capacitive buttons (may be a - or + for you)
- power button on the top (personally I like it on the side, good for people with smaller hands too)
- non removable battery
and you don't get the awesome multicolored notification light on the Galaxy Nexus.
No Super Amoled Screen
After using a Super Amoled screen I can't use anything else!

You shouldn't be so quick to bash the SLCD2 on the new HTC's. Its being regarded as the best screen out there right now. Laminated (no gap), better viewing angles, better colors, and almost as deep of blacks as AMOLED, but full RGB 720P.

LOL. No joke. I had an Evo 4G and a G2, both of which had poor build quality (good materials shakily put together) and needed replacement (G2 once, the Evo several times over). Got my GNex and its solid and well built. I always found it funny that people regarded HTC for their build quality and I never thought they were miles ahead or anything, especially based on my experiences.
HTC has apparently stepped up its game on these models, though.

My fault. When I was looking a few days back a few places had them at around $760 or something. The non removable battery is a big deal on a android device usually because of the phones power and screen. Well really with any phones now of days including the 4S. Now the iPhone 4 had awesome battery life. But that besides the point.
I'd say hold off.

Actually, you should be our guinea pig and buy one. Then you can let us know +'s/-'s of the two.
I would get the HTC ONE because of the sexy hardware. Yeah people will say it sucks having HTC 4.0 sense but who cares. Custom roms will take care of that and alot of software issues which can always be altered. When hardware on smartphones can not.
IMO why not to get the One X, because you will regret it when the SGS3 drops.
Normally I don't like the “there is going to be something better" mentality, but the SGS3 is literally around the corner. At least hold off until we know more about the SGS3

I don't know about the others, but my HTC Droid Incredible was solid. Still have it and it's still a well built phone. Regardless, I'd stick with the Nexus or wait for the SIII.

Ah, I guess I will have to go see the SLCD2 for myself when the One phones finally hit. Have you heard anything about the screen's drain on the battery? AMOLED is supposed to be more battery sufficient isn't it?
And I agree on the HTC build quality. The materials they use are usually excellent, but on some of their phones the actual quality of the build leaves something to be desired. The only thing I see people disliking the most on Samsung phones is the plastic they use. I haven't heard any complaints on the actual quality of the build though.

AMOLED is actually not always so frugal on battery. It only does well when you have a dark UI or dark background (because individual pixels can turn off). It actually drains very high when you use high brightness levels. SLCD2 isn't going to be any better or worse I don't think. It's still going to be the largest drain by far on your device, especially at 720P and 4.7".
The way I see it, if u keep waiting for the "next better phone",you're gonna be waiting infinite amount of time because you'll hear information on a phone like the One X (for example) and when that comes out there will be info on the s3 and then you'll wanna wait for that, and then when that comes around to being released, the new Nexus will be rumored and you'll wanna wait for that and so on and so forth....pointless! Just buy a phone and use it! If u want the next one, sell yours and pay the difference! IMO, the smart thing to do is stick with a nexus if you're not into bloatware and plus development will be booming with every nexus! So many factors come in to buying a new phone, it sucks but cell phones are ruling the world right now!
And yeah I know quad core is all the rage but I've said it before and I'll say it again, these phones can't get any faster in terms of transitions and such lol! Yeah you'll notice on benchmarks and hardcore games, but that's what the ps3 and 360s are for (and ps4 and 720 next year) and get real! Nobody will care that your phones scores higher on a benchmark than someone else's if their running the same damn software!

Hey guys,I just wanted to hear the opinions for this phone.I'm probably gonna switch from Sony Xperia S to Nexus because there are a few things that are really bothering me.So first of all I would like to hear the problems you had/have with this phone in terms of hardware/software.I personally think this is a very good phone, and don't really want to go with LG right now cause I think sammy is just fine .I am worried a little bit about camera (it's not a problem) it's 5 MP and SXS has a 12 MP but forgive me for not-knowing cause i heard that it doesn't really matter how much MP you have but it's up to sensors and software tweaks...so guys please give me opinion is it worth buying?

Global problems:
Screen quality. You play russian roulette with getting a good screen that isn't washed out, with blacks looking purple.
Camera quality is average. Maybe even below average. You are right that MP doesn't matter, but the sensor sucks regardless.
WiFi. A lot of people have issues with 5Ghz WFi (I am not one of them).
CDMA/LTE problems:
Battery life.
Some have issues with data drops.
Slow updates,
I've had galaxy nexi across sprint and verizon and they were fine. Fast phone- but I didn't realise how so until I got away from Sprint. I got excellent battery life with 3g on sprint and with lte on Verizon.

So...is the screen really that bad?I think since (I guess) it's a hardware issue...is it really that bad, like on every black you got purple,or certain areas? And does it wash out by using or just when you get its already in that state?

Well, I have had three of them thus far (one being a warranty replacement. 1 had a screen issue. I am not sure what the actual problem is, but I'm thinking that the brightness levels are off in the hardware. There are kernels that let you adjust it to overcome the problem if you end up with one of these.
You actually buy it in that state, its not a problem that develops over time.
Well ok than,i think it is not that bad,not that i woulf like to see these problems lol just saying, since i had a yellow tint problem on my SXS and it was a hardware problem...
I would get the HTC One X if you're on a GSM carrier. If you want to switch to Verizon, I would wait for the new Droid DNA. Its going to be an amazing phone. A 5 inch full 1080p screen and a quad core Snapdragon S4 processor. Its going to run circles around either phone.

Regardless of the device, people always ***** about the screen and the camera.
Don't listen to em. The gnex is a great device, and the complainers are just nerds on xda.. not real world users.

For average user, the screen looks good enough, battery life is acceptable for me (average 17h or so with 3.5-4hours screen on), camera is below average for me cause i use my camera very often and video recording looks jagged and so far from perfect for me.
Overall this phone is still a great device, its performance is pretty good.

Samsung intends this to be a niche device (a phablet, if you will) while HTC has strongly insisted that the DNA be called a phone. Oh, and by launching only on Verizon, that means I won't be buying it... ever. (T-Mobile fanboy here ... not to mention I save a ton too)

This
noted for future reference on my Note 2
it has a smaller battery than the GS3 but it has a bigger 1080p screen so yeah good luck with the battery

Hahaha! Yea I was thinking it has a higher resolution but yet the battery is weaker than that of the GS3. So either you carry a charger with you all day or have a set of battery extension because its going to drain fast during usage.
Now I wouldn't think about trading my Note 2 for the DNA one bit because both phones pretty much have the same specs. The Note 2 at 720p is already rich in screen resolution. You'll have to stare at it from about half an inch away from the screen to notice the pixels. I'm pretty sure you'll see less pixels on the DNA while staring at the screen from the same distance, but who'll want to do that?. With the Note 2 you can also record videos and take pictures at the same time like the how the HTC always advertise on their phones. Nothing new about that. Now the only down side I see on the DNA is no stylus (many people who hates holding a pencil, let alone writing their name would not care for it at all), no expansion slot (I cannot rely on cloud storage as an alternative), the battery is weak and non-removable (so unlike the Note 2 it is not meant for heavy usage), and finally it's from Verizon (the carrier whom loves to brand the **** out of their phones).
But I don't like to tell people what to get. If any phone they find that suits them, then great and good luck with their new devices. We all win. :good:
EDIT: Forgot to mention that with LTE the DNA will suffer even more on its battery.

But i want both of them, the best two devices in the world until now.:silly:
DNA has everything I try to avoid in a phone...
Lol im surprised at how everybody like shot the droid dna out of clouds ...so it seemz that gn2 is still the god of phones!!! Or has HTC started losing their over all appeal because of the recent designs and bad moves they made (locked bootloaders/failure to see their batteries are basically dead paperweights/ etc)...idk what is your opinions...cuz those were tge reason I avoided the one x and grew sick of the one s

The only thing arguably better would be the display / resolution. Other than that, Note 2 owns all the way. At this point in time, I don't really care much for 1080p. For my next phone in about a year or two, thats a different story.
a less than 16gb for screen 1080p phone, pass...

I checked out the Note2 again tonight this time only for about 15 min when I stopped by Best Buy & immediately felt like this is such a real huge upgrade from my EVO 4G that I must have it soon. Then I started noticing the whites weren't as white as my EVO & it could be brighter (set to max) & even experienced some lag but I did not have time to do a reboot.
I am curious to see the DDNA, 1080p natural color screen with amazing cameras like the OneX & improved speaker etc but obviously annoyed with battery & sdcard situtation (not a huge fan of all the red styling either but would slap a case on it) yet I will have to check it out. I think the OneX variants are the best "smartphone" display & camera & at 5" DDNA should be impressive (always thought 5" is a great size but the N2 managed its 5.55" amazingly as well & the stylus puts it in its own class).
So do the non-white whites & brightness of the screen around sunlight on the N2 ever bother anyone?

I would go back to HTC if they stopped emulating the iPhone in their designs. My SGN2 is my first non-HTC phone in 7 years - They no longer offer anything I'm interested in.

I will admit that the 440ppi and handling of colors is a huge notch against the n2.. the droid however is it a dealbreaker for me...No...does it hurt people who are truly craving that 1080p display and higher color reproduction...it might...Htc decisions to do certain designs and moves on there devices seem to be pushing people away already from what it seems...as well as the fact the series of their devices theyve released is starting to flow the "Apple way"..thats just coming from me though

No doubt. I gave my Galaxy S III to my girlfriend. I held it this morning for the first time in a week. It feels so small and tiny now that I'm used to my Note II. Next phone I get will need to be around the size of the Note II.

HTC One or Samsung Galaxy S4? Anyone upgrading?

I got really disappointed when Samsung released the gs4 and it looked basically the same as the galaxy s3 just with a bigger screen and a few new bells and whistles. So I'm opting for the HTC one cause that thing is sexy all around. What about you guys?

Are you choosing a phone based on looks alone? Cause the HTC isn't even up to par with the current Euro SIII, let alone the S4 in terms of specs. I guess its about preference but personally I'm pretty intrigued by the S4 eight core processor in a frame slimmer then the SIII, not to mention the 13mp camera features, 5.0 SAmoled (yay no more pen tile) I just don't see a comparison IMO.

First of all, the HTC one has a qualcomm 600 processor which is that the same as the Samsung Galaxy S 4 has in USA, except that the s4 is .2ghz faster in terms of clock speed. Second of all, I'm currently on a contract with t mobile and I was talking about upgrading to the Galaxy s4 or the HTC one, so there's no way I can get the eight core s4. The galaxy s4 has a pentile display. Plus I don't really care about the megapixels or ultrapixels of the camera as long as my pics turn out good and not look like they were taken from a potato.

The source codes take sooo long to be released.
Look at the Amaze 4g and youll see what im talking about.
An awesome phone treated like crap lol.
When it comes to phones and tablets i will not use anything other than Samsung or a nexus. I just can't do it. HTC is a lot harder to root and it takes longer for development and i don't see anything else competing with Samsung.

I'm full of great idea's, but don't have the time to create them or learn the coding to create them. If you want to make one of my ideas a reality just message me and I will give you my idea as specific as possible.
ideas:
-launcher/lock screen
-line rider type game where you control the character
-2d fighting game like art of fighting for the SNES
-multiplayer fps where you create your own map with a creative mode (minecraft style)
-roller coaster tycoon style game
-get phone out of sleep mode
-many more!
Just message me which idea you want info on and I'll tell you!

I'd hold out for the note 3 personally, that's what I'm doing. But then again it's a very long and very impatient wait because I don't think it'll be released until September. It's all on you though bud, there's a bunch of ill phones coming out this year.

I had an HTC VIVID before this phone (cracked the screen), and it was a pain. Unlocking the bootloader, then flashing boot image and blah blah blah just to root and rom it. And then the development thread was WEAK (at the time ) so it was like for no point. I agree with the 2 above mentioned posts regarding source code & development. Its seriously ridiculous & sad!

If I had to pick one of those 2 I would probably go with the HTC One, build quality is way ahead of the S4, I'm tired of plastic phones. My S2 has survived its fair share of drops without no significant damage though so I'm happy with that. Processors are nearly the same unless you're comparing the international S4 and HTC One. The One also has a nicer screen (more ppi). It seems like the biggest knock on the One is the fact that it doesn't have upgradable storage and battery but 64GB is more than enough for me and I never carry an extra battery for my S2 so that is pointless. When it comes to camera quality, the S3 with its 13MP will take better pictures when zoomed in since it has more pixels but the HTC One will blow the S4 out of the water when it comes to night pictures or anything with low light (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I was honestly disappointed with the S4, it seemed like all Samsung talked about at the news conference was all the bloatware they added onto the phone that I'm never going to use.
This is a laughable question. S4 stands head and toe over the crap HTC is throwing out nowadays.

I believe that will be the international s4 with the Exnyos processor that probably wont have much development from what i have read. the North American version
still uses Qualacom, so i am thinking the development will be just as good as the S3.
As for which one i will choose, I will need to see them side by side first before I make any decisions.

If you are one of those people who root and flash away from Professionally built phone software in favor of barely working featureless lackluster crap produced by CM and it's near relatives there is no point worrying about having the newest phone anyway cuz you clearly are not going to use it for anything other than looking at your reflection. honestly you kids would be just as well off with a flip phone and a be-dazzeler.
I could understand the CM worship if this was a walmart prepaid phone with some lame flavor of aosp on it then CM might be a slight improvement but leaving Touchwiz for CM is a huge downgrade every time, all Tochwiz needs is some speedtweaks and a tweaked kernel.
Anyway +1 going to the S4 when It's here, might add a note 3 or even the note2 if I can get a good deal on it!
Wow makes me regret getting the Nexus 4 after what I saw in the GS4. Should have waited. But one this is having Google's latest and greatest code feels awesome. GS2 also has outstanding support and CM10.1
I really miss HTC's look and quality. But they have always been terrible battery life phones. Each one I've had except for the G2. My GS2 is still a champ and love that samsung releases the CODE that makes CM even possible.
And at the presentation I really have to reconsider no SD support and no removable battery. Just this week my old myTouch 4G I gave to my cousin, the battery can't hold charge. He got it replaced and its good as new. To me, having a removable battery just makes it easier to replace it when it does go bad.
I can kinda live with 16 gig and no SD Card, unless you are a heavy media user. But having a removable battery makes it possible to replace it. I don't mind the Samsung plastic. It is cheap and got a mini dent that I can't figure out how it happened on my GS2. I should have put a screen protector to prevent that. Still a mystery how it happened.
My LG G2X, I've never ever ever used at screen protector and its still flawless. Samsung **** is sensitive. They could at least use better plastics if they are sticking with that material.
