Google nexus? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Should i stick with this trusty epic or move to the google nexus? I have an opportunity to try out the google nexus.....should i move to the nexus or stick with the epic out of everybodys opinion here? Just thinking of trying something new

If you have a chance to "try it out" then why not do it and decide what you like better. It's all the same **** if it works right for you and gets you happily through the day.

.......wander thru the nexus threads here on xda, + you'll see what all is available in terms of ROMs + themes, you know, prospects for you as an end user running a different device..........in a few minutes you'd get a sense as to what other nexus users are experiencing w/ their device based on the specific carrier + a number of other factors........have fun!

The google nexus looks sexy. It's amost upgrade time for me... I'm thinking about sticking with my epic until more 4g lte phones become available. I already got fooled once into purchasing a 4g phone.

How did you get Fooled into buying a 4g phone I'm sorry but this phone you know the Epic 4g that you have was the best at its time and was better than any other 4g phone back in 2010 and half of 2011?

Mr. Fanboy, I am not referring to the Samsung Epic Phone itself, I am referring to 4g in general. The only reason I purchased a 4g phone in the first place was because my local sprint store claimed 4g would be in Omaha within a couple months....It never happened. So now I am paying for something incorporated into my bill that I cannot use. Now Sprint is switching to 4g lte which will inevitably rule my phone useless when it comes to 4g down the line. 4G is the biggest scam in the history of mobile data.

When it first started that charge was only for 4g phones... wifes evo had the charge my smartphone (can't remember name only had it for a week) no 10 charge... as soon as I switched to epic 4g extra 10 dollar charge.... sales guy even said it was for 4g at the time... about a month later the "premium data charge" for all smart phones appeared..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

Mostly because they realized they would be required to give a refund if there was no 4G in your area...LOL. I think the salespeople were either misinformed or Sprint realized soon after that the new phones would still use the same amount of data just on 3G and they did not want to limit data like the other carriers.

question about 4g phones

If I buy a 4g phone online without a contract on verizon, do I have to upgrade to a 4g plan or can I stay on my current 3g plan?
should just be able to keep you're 3G plan.. the 4G is just an added benefit. you just wont get 4G service if you dont have the 4G plan

I don't believe there are any 3g or 4g plans, just data plans in general ? I'm pretty sure if you bought a 4g off contract and you activated it should work np.
Yeah, when I got my Inc 2 the plans and prices were identical to the 4g thunder I just got this cause my area has no 4g and won't for a long time...

Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
The only thing that is different is you have to purchase a 4g sim card. You have the 3g rtr removed and replaced by 4g. You can still switch back and forth but each time will take a visit to a store. If you just swap via myverizon it can make your 4g card unusable. The rep has to mark the card as reusable each time. If you are going 4g it would be best to just stay 4g due to the headaches.

Future of WiMax

So now that Sprint is moving to the LTE standard, does this mean that WiMax will no longer be developed? I mean, i just signed a damn 2 year contract 3 months ago, and am paying an extra 10 bucks a month per smartphone for 4g service, which i was promised i would get in the future. The rep even told us that within a year WiMax coverage would encompass most of Sprints network.
Wimax will still be supported by Sprint. It's not like they can drop it entirely with an abundance of Wimax users on its network. I wouldn't expect widespread expansion of Wimax though since LTE is what's "in"
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Was on the phone with *2 today and while waiting i slipped that question in. The guy said that wimax will be supported for the life of all current devices

It was never, ever called a 4G fee. It's always been called a Premium Data fee from the launch. The confusion comes from it initially only being charged on 4G phones (however, Sprint was always VERY careful to position it as a Premium Data fee for phones that Sprint expected to consume more data and to protect them from the complaints of 4G not being available in all areas).

The rep lied to you about wimax expansion. They will continue to serve wimax until all wimax devices have reached their "life expectancy" but lte is the new 4g standard. Enjoy your wimax device and by the time your contract is due to renew, Sprint will hopefully have a decent lte coverage area.

WiMax will continued to be supported until the absolute earliest they will turn it off; the end of 2015.
It is still a good technology for many things, and I could see them using and maintaing the network beyond that.
you wont be on LTE but you will have faster data speeds on 3g though when the towers are upgraded
Actually they called it that because Dan Hesse, Sprint's CEO said at CES that there would not be a surcharge for 4g data service.

according to engadget, and ceo of spint, they will support wimax until 2015, and phase it out of their network as lte gets in place. by 2013 they will offer lte- advanced. which is ten times faster then the current lte.
this does not mean there will be more expansion of wimax.. wimax is just a pit stop.

No, it is used to pay clearwire for 4g and to pay for network vision (4g).
In other words it is a 4g fee.

I think I'm gonna set my phone to 24/7 roam on verizon to get my $10 worth then.
Not important to me. Neither is 3g for that matter. I spend 90% of the day within reach of wifi. And when I'm out and about, I don't mind the slow 3g speeds (500k). I don't do anything on my phone that is bandwidth intensive.

Actually the first month after the Epic's release date, Sprint store sales reps were telling customers the additional $10 was specifically for either using 4G or to bring 4G to your area within the next 6 months. That's the only reason I want 4G, the company allowed a huge amount of reps to sell the phone with that sales pitch. To try and quell the angst, Sprint implemented the charge across all "smart devices".
Closest 4G area is ~400mi away from me.
4G area is pointless in my area. I've rarely ever gotten it, and all it does is drain battery anyway. I'm curious to see how good LTE will be, and if it'll actually be in my area for once.

Wink wink. . . . nudge nudge. We all know the 10 dollars is for 4g no matter what Sprint calls it now. It ABSOLUTELY was for 4g service in the beginning before everyone complained and Sprint decided to just make everyone pay the fee, as the only phones that had to pay were 4g phones.
Ummm...cause it's fast. Being able to stream youtube, internet radio and HBO at my work desk is kind of awesome. Hope LTE is even better, and just as unlimited.

My cousin has a droid 3

But he's tired of paying so much money and wants to come to sprint but I told him to wait because there's no good phones out with a keyboard and its not worth putting a new 2 year contract for a phone from 2010.
Then I remembered he's on verizon lol think it'd be possible to flash it to sprint? Will that be illegal? I mean, he's willing to pay the etf to get out of verizon, its his to do whatever with from that point on right?

whats the point for speed? To see who's faster? Who cares?
As long as you can get your data or info whatever you need like if you need directions or need to hop on the internet and get something whether it be 20 seconds or 45 seconds it doesn't matter.
And if your in a hurry you should have planned ahead, and don't "say well with LTE or faster 3g speeds i don't need to" well that just makes you lazy as hell.
I rather pay 200$ for 3 lines being UNLIMITED versus 250+ on VZW.
And yes were unlimited because the fact its slower but again who cares.
just saying..........

what keeps you with sprint

hey everyone..what keeps you with sprint!? the unlimited data and any mobile is great, but the data speeds and lack of 4g or LTE are kind of annoying...so what keeps y'all with sprint?! I Love the aformentioned perks, but I think verizon 4g lte in my area may tempt me to switch
Well I created a new plan with sprint [was on parents' plan] and I could have went anywhere. I went with sprint cuz of the data prices, and the overall price wasn't bad. Not gona go to at&t and verizon and get raped with data. Also LTE coming to my area is supposed to be heavy, so we will see.
Its cheaper then the other carriers. I get full signal on sprint everywhere I go in my area. It actually has unlimited data

Almost left a few years Ago when if seemed I could never talk to an American ( no offense intended ). Sprint has really done a 135° turn since then. Not quite there yet but doing better.
