[HOW TO] Get SWYPE beta working when it fails to enable and select - Defy General

Ok I installed CM7 WhiteRabbit (the 2.3.6 version) and think its great but I missed SWYPE!!
I got the beta version (used it in CM9 ICS no problems) but on this one when installing and went to enable it kept disabling it straight away. I done a reboot and it said it was enabled then but when I went to select swype it would go back to the install page and say select. When selecting it in the SMS part or in the settings part it would not select ether.
Now I got this from a site for the KINDLE but it works if your having the same trouble.
1) Download the installer from your beta email or transfer it from one of your other devices (If you get an error saying "Sorry! This is not an Android Phone..." make sure your browser is set to mobile view and not desktop.)
2) Log in
3) Select your Beta version
4) Install the Swype keyboard
5) Use Root Explorer and navigate to /data/apps and find the Swype apk
6) Move the Swype apk (not the installer) to /system/apps
7) Make sure permissions are rw- r-- r--
8) Reboot your device
9) Long press on a text field, select input method, then Swype
10)When you use Swype it will constantly Force Close
11)Go back into system/app and press install on the swype apk file that you placed there
12)Then delete the same apk from system/app and reboot.
Worked perfect for me I rebooted and into SMS enable SWYPE and all the how to use and settings pages show up and now its going great guns. Cheers to the author of the kindle thread. Sorry to take your lime light but its great to know it works for Defy +

Swype on MIUI roms?

Quick question for all the rooting gurus out there. I put an updated MIUI rom on my phone and went to re-load Swype from their website, completely legit.
I get an error message when I go to run it saying that my device isn't supported and will run with limited function.
Has anybody found a way around this error messages? Are people finding it with other roms?
Thanks!
That would be happening because you are using ur wrong version...

It's a bit bootleg but the only way I've been able to do it so far:
1. Download and install root explorer. You'll have to pay but it's a useful app and worth it
1. Download swype installer and install swype
2. After installation, there will be a screen with 4 options:
a. watch video
b. start tutorial
c. generate license
d. finish
Click "Generate license"
3. Click "select android keyboard" and change the radio button from "swype" to "android keyboard"
4. Press the home button to exit swype installer and open root installer
5. Go to /data/app
6. Click on "com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk" and long hold to bring up the options menu
7. Click move, scroll to /sdcard/download and click "paste"
8. Press the home button to exit root explorer
9. Open swype installer. You should get a force close error. If you do not and instead see the screen with "disable swype", click the back button which will bring you back to the home screen then click swype installer again. Do not continue until swype installer force closes.
10. Go back to root explorer and move "com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk" back to /data/app
11. Go back to the home screen and open swype installer
12. Click "select swype" and then select swype
13. Click "finish"
14. Enjoy
Hope that helps. If you have any questions, let me know.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar... I tried so many different things and wasted hours until I found this post. Follow his instructions step by step and you'll be up on swype in no time
This worked for me too. Just to add on, the root permissions for the com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk should be rw-r--r--. Set this permission in root explorer after long pressing it from data/app after you have completed everything. This is for people who are not able to see swype after rebooting their phone
I usually use TB to backup my swype from a sense rom (or any other rom where swype works correctly) then when I use MIUI i go to Tb and restore. Always worked for me!
Has anybody got this to work with the new Swype 3 beta? I have tried this twice to no avail.

I got swype 3 and it is working perfectly on my MIUI
I've got it downloaded and installed but it will not let me license it. Tried the above trick twice and cannot get it to work.

Found this solution from MIUI.us forums, it requires that you have an already licensed version of swype 2.x
Ok.. have a workaround. Miui automatically enables keyboards so no way to disable it.
1) If you have titanium backup you can first backup swype (not the installer), then uninstall swype, long press home and re-open the swype installer and proceed to login and reinstall swype.
2) Once installed don't press "Done. Long press home and switch back to titanium backup and restore your copy of swype, then re-open the installer (or press Done if already open).
3) Installer should now show something like "your copy is licensed, select swype" Just press select and choose swype, then click Finish. (Do not click Generate license).
Click to collapse
That did the trick. Titanium backup had already backed up the new version and it kept reinstalling it and would not work. Found a backup of the 2.x and was able to restore it. Thanks for all the help.
Thankyou so much

I looked everywhere for a way to get swype 3.x to work on my vibrant with MIUI but none of the stuff I found actually worked, EXCEPT THIS.
Like someone said right after your post:
You Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar...
This way took a couple of tries but it definitely worked
Tried the Titanium method thousands of times and variants on my Nexus S and didn't got it working.
The File Manager method worked like a charm, on the second try. Don't know if it matters, but worked after rebooting the phone and following rhe guide.
The good news is you don't need to expend money buying the Root Explorer App. I've used ES file explorer without any problem.
i didn't do anyspecial "trick" to get mine working, i just went thru and unistalled all the older version.. cleared cahces of app and installer, installed a redownloaded version off webpage.. then just went all the way thru till the 4 part screen, "generate license" just select the swype option and then i think i hit finish... can't remember the rest.. sorry..

This is the only thing that worked for me. NOTE: It only worked for me after I tried it with the Full Swype Beta instead of the English/Spanish version.
oh my..
ure soo great,,
thanks alot,,
thanks button for u
This is a known bug on the Swype website. They have posted a workaround which I tried and it worked after several attempts:
"Unable to install Swype on MIUI Rom
When Swype is installed it needs to be unloaded from Android at the time the Swype Installer passes the authentication key to the Swype program. MIUI attempts automatically load and enable any input device into memory as soon as they are available. Because of this there is no reliable way of getting Swype working on MIUI, and even if you do it may not stay enabled for long.
However if you'd like to try, Android Peak has developed a workaround that works some of the time.
UPDATE: marchief has found a workaround which does not require the use of Titanium Backup, may produce more consistant results:
Download installer
Download and install swype
At the enable step leave the installer and select swype as the input device
Reboot your phone
After Reboot, open the swype installer again
Select "Select Android keyboard" and change input back to android keyboard
Choose disable swype, go to applications and uninstall swype but NOT THE INSTALLER
Go back to the installer and generate license
This should put you through the download process again so just follow it and re-install swype
Once re-installed it should generate the license, but it still won't work
Reboot your phone again and all should work, enjoy!"

[Q] Calk v1.5 + DA swype themes= FC

This is what I did:
uninstall swype and swype installer
Root Explorer>"copy" themed swype>system>app> change to r/w> paste> change permission (rw-r--r--)> click> install> install successful
But any time the phone is rebooted, I start getting swype fc. Untill I Root Explorer> system> app> themed swype> install> install successful. Also, the fc'ing will come back after an extended period ~6-10 hours, even without a having a reboot on/off/on.
Thought I had it right, where am I going wrong?

[FIX] CM9, AOKP DPI issues... SOLVED!

Hello guys!!! After just receiving my amazing SGS2 i began flashing ROMs like a maniac just like any other of my phones xD and i was beginning to greatly fall deeply in love with both CM9 and AOKP but one thing which just really got under my skin was the DPI issues. Well ive done a bunch of research and i believe if you follow my steps all issues will be gone
Firstly, DO NOT SET DPI TO 160!!!!!!!
You must use a DPI of 161 or higher. I use 162.
Why? Well its cause anything lower and ICS thinks the phone is actually a tablet. Which is where a lot of the issues lie. But anyhow to the fix!
Easiest and permanent fix:
MARKET FIX
1. Download LCD Density Modder Pro from the market.
2. Set your desired DPI level
3. Click "Save as system DPI" allow device to reboot.
4. Once rebooted open up LCD Density Modder Pro again
5. Click "Fix Market Compatibility Issues"
6. Download both Modded play store AND GSF apk
7. Follow instructions....
8. Install both mods.
9. After a reboot everything should be working grand
PHONE FORCE CLOSE FIX
1. Simply visit ME and follow that thread to fix the phone. I used the latest phone.apk and have no issues
****VERY IMPORTANT FINAL STEP****
REBOOT TO RECOVERY, SELECT ADVANCED, SELECT FIX PERMISSIONS, REBOOT SYSTEM and enjoy!
Fix without LCD Modder Pro (For those who are cheap xD)
1. Change DPI using LCD Modder or editing build.prop
2. Download "hacked" market from attachment (I just googled this from when i had my HD2)
3. Using a root explorer or adb, navigate to /system/app and check to see what your market name is (Mine was Phonesky.apk) not sure if its universal though.
4. Rename attached file to whatever your market file is if not already Phonesky.apk
5. DELETE old Phonesky.apk
6. Copy the attached file to the /system/app directory
7. Reboot to recovery, and once again FIX PERMISSIONS (See above for a how to)
Well both methods work swell for me Its just the second method doesnt stick forever, and after awhile you must go into "Apps" setting and Clear the market cache. I guess there is something with the GSF mod that makes it stick. Not sure. But everything is working for me now and im a happy camper!
Any issues, feel free to post in here or PM me thanks all for looking! AND OF COURSE! HIT THANKS TO ANYONE WHO HELPS YOU!

Boost mobile auto retrieve mms issues plus 3g data

Is anyone who have there device flashed to boost mobile have had recent issues with mms not auto retrieving or device keeps going to 1xrtt? I already have auto retrieve message settings checked off and mobile data enabled for whatever reason I only have a option to click on download. It was working before with stock messaging app and hancent. Now both have issues auto retrieving. The fix I had for apn mms fix was in this thread
Im stock rooted/md4 deodex
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794956
Steps are below
Method 1 - (the real fix, but requires a rooted phone):
***UPDATE***
I've confirmed that this method works on ICS (4.0.4) and Jellybean (4.1.1 & 4.1.2). Tested and working on Galaxy S3 and Note 2.
1a) Download this working Sprint APN xml file: https://www.box.com/s/40x5ac2c6u0ckzfz59ig (click on download button at the top)
OR
1b) For Boost, download this xml file: https://www.box.com/s/o9folfrq00ee9p2qj5pv (click on download button at the top)
OR
1c) For Virgin Mobile, download this xml file: https://www.box.com/s/9itl21drpp84enqeszc9 (click on download button at the top)
2) Download and install "APN Backup & Restore" from the Google Play Store to your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...pRestore&hl=en
3) Convert the "APN Backup & Restore" into a system app by either using Titanium Backup, or simply use Root Explorer/ES File Explorer (root enable it) to move the APK from /data/app to /system/app.
4) Reboot the phone.
5) Launch the app, click on menu, then click on "Disable ICS Check".
6) In the main app menu, click on "Backup APNs". This will create a directory called "ApnBackupRestore" in your /mnt/sdcard.
7) Copy the xml file from step 1 to the /mnt/sdcard/ApnBackupRestore folder.
8) Go back to the main app menu, click on "Delete APNs" and confirm it.
9) Go back to the main app menu, click on "Restore APNs".
10) Choose the file you downloaded from step 1 and confirm it.
11) Reboot your phone.
12) Done.
It was working fine with auto retrieving but not anymore. Also checking under menu/settings/about phone status shows 1xrtt in multiple locations.I also have friends with boost s3/note 2/s4 and there coverage would be evdo, anyone else having issues with this? It recently just started
anyone?
thank you
