i want to flash "cyanogenmod". last not the least i rooted the wildfire for overclocking the cpu. i came to know that i have to flash the kerenal for the same . but i nowhere able to find any solution for this. now i have rooted wildfire with "s on".. tell me how to gain soff and how to overclock the cpu. i am still on custom rom. is there is anyway to gain complete soff and anysoftware to just intall cyanogenmod on my wildfire.. i searched almost all threats but i vain unable to understand how to gain soff..
can buzzdowngrade utility can help to gain soff.. please tell me any method to gain soff with minimum damage possibilities

Its not necessary to get S-OFF if you want to install custom ROMs or install overclock capable kernels. All you need is a Custom Recovery called ClockworkMod Recovery. You can flash Clockworkmod Recovery via Fastboot using this post as a guide:
- Download this attachment and extract it to any folder (eg: C:\fastboot)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1308537074
- Download CWM IMG Image for Wildfire (Buzz) from here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/rec...0.2.0-buzz.img
- Place that IMG file along with the 4 files from the attachment in the same folder you created
- Now, turn off your Wildfire, connect to PC, and turn on in HBoot
- Navigate to Fastboot and Select it
- Open a Command Prompt Window (Start > Run > cmd)
- Type the following one by one and press Enter (It is assumed you created the folder in C Drive and have named it fastboot)
- cd\
- cd fastboot
- fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz.img
- This should produce 2 lines of code - SENDING RECOVERY and WRITING RECOVERY. If both states OK at the end, you should have CWM installed successfully after this.
Once you have CWM installed, follow this post to install Custom ROMS / Kernels:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8926457&postcount=4
However, if you necessarily want S-OFF, then yes, the BuzzDowngrade method posted by ieftm should work. That will get your HBoot to 1.01.0001, and then you can use Revolutionary to gain S-OFF.

No need of s -off
right now i m using an unlocked wildfire with s- on and cyanogenmod 7.01 in it.
just download ROM manager from android market and then download stabel release from cyanogen official site. copy to root of sd card . go to bootloader menu and install it

reply

[Q] Error flashing recovery.img (CWM v3.0.2.8)

So i currently have ROM Manager v4.0.0.1 (but i havent flashed CWM yet) and ofc S-OFF and rooted, and HBOOT .85 and Stock ROM.
I tried to flash CWM v3.0.2.8 normally but i get this message in FastBoot USB mode
//------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\HTC_Ace\tools>fastboot-windows flash recovery ./recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (4286 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)
//------------------------------------------------------------------
so i thought i would manually flash it with a terminal.
i then found out that i didnt have flash_image, so i found a download link and put it in my /system/bin/ file, and typed
//-------------------------------------------------------------------
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
error scanning partitions
//-------------------------------------------------------------------
any solutions?, for the first or second problem?, i just want CWM -
::and side note, can i access the original HTC Bootloader with this installed?
Do you have ENG S-OFF? Regular S-OFF doesn't cut the mustard when it comes to flashing via fastboot.
I think I do!, I used the easy radio software thingy when I rooted, so I presume so.

Double check your CID in "System Info" in the bootloader. Does it Read CID: 11111111
there are only 4 options in the bootloader, i cannot see the "system info" option
If you cannot see "System Info" then you don't have ENG S-OFF, Just use THIS tool and you'll have it in no time.
Guys, no one tried to install recovery.img by replacing the same file in the firmware?

yo, so i did internet pass through on my phone and click 'flash ClockworkMod Recovery' in ROM Manager, and it installed v3.0.2.6.
My question is, if my phone didnt have ENG S-OFF the flash recovery that ROM Manager did; wouldnt have worked right? - its written in the last detailed process in the link you provided to me andy.
No with S-off rom manager can flash a recovery, but you can't flash via fastboot.

Problem with unloocking bootloader on Virgin Mobile (htc a510c)

I am having a problem, I go to the HTC Dev site, tells me I need to download a new rom, but when I download the Virgin Mobile rom, it restart the phone then it gives me an error that I have the wrong version.
I dont understand though, the phone says Virgin Mobile. Can anyone help me?
I found these steps. I have problems on number 7, which says *
"Scroll down, choose your phone version, download RUU"
When I download Virgin Mobile, it goes through its process, reboots the phone, you see the HTC logo, then the program errors out saying I have the wrong rom. How can I have the wrong rom? I have a Virgin Mobile Wildfire S, and that is what I downloaded. Any ideas?
STEP 1 - Update HBOOT to support generating device tokens
* Go to http://htcdev.com/
* Click "unlock bootloader" and then "get started"
* On the right, chose HTC Wildfire S from the dropdown
* Click begin unlock bootloader
* Login, or register first, then login
* Confirm the 2 nasty boxes and agree all stuff
* Scroll down, choose your phone version, download RUU
* Run RUU.exe and flash new HBOOT
* Click proceed
* Remove battery, re-insert, boot into bootloader (Power + Vol-)
* Click proceed
* get those 3 files: adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, fastboot.exe, read how to get them if you do not have them
* open a terminal as it is done on the site
* enter the command: fastboot oem get_identifier_token
* Copy the identifier token and
* paste it at the bottom of the page
* submit
I believe I figured it out, I found a thread somewhere else that had the answer. I'll try it tomorrow though, I am beat spent 2 hours on this. Here is the quote though for the fix
"4: You will find 2 zip folders named rom_01 and rom_02, copy these 2 zips to your desktop
5: Now change the name of rom_01 (im not 100% sure if its 01 or 02 that you need to do first, I cant remember) to PG76IMG and copy it over to a microSD, insert into your phone and boot into HBoot, it will go through the normal process of detecting and then opening the zip and will ask you if you wish to update the radio to v2 (it should only ask to update the radio, because you need to do it first before you use the second file which asks to update both the radio and hboot) allow to do so and it will do its thing and when completed ask to reboot."
I am not sure where to begin. I have been all over this forum and another trying to find the answer.

Now that you're unlocked, try using the same all in one tool to ROOT the phone. Then flash CWM, because you need root for CWM. I suggest using rezo609's All-In-One Utility if that's not what you are already using.
There's no need of 1.08.0099 or 1.09.0099 because the one you have is the latest UNLOCKABLE bootloader.
And since you have an A510c, why don't you go ahead and S-OFF it? It's really simple. You'll find a guide in the index in the general section.
Good luck!

So I need to root before I can install CWM? Didn't know that. I'll take a look at the general section for the s-off.
I just needed someone to point me in the right direction.
I tried to root it but I think the TOOL is asking me to install root.zip but it reboots and it just stays on the HTC logo screen. What do I do? The instructions are asking me to select root, zip but i have no option to do so, it just stays on the htc screen. I do not have CWM installed.

That's quite strange.
Okay, considering you have adb installed, pit the adb files in a folder called android.
Put it in any drive you want. Put the cwm img in the same folder.
Name the image file as recovery.img
Suppose you have the folder on c drive, type this :
cd c:\android
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Do you have the root.zip?
Cwm recovery should boot. Then flash the root.zip.
Tell me if it doesn't work.

I did as you asked, after I got this message, I tried to boot into recovery to get into CWM, and I just get the HTC logo, its basically stuck until I remove the battery. Any other suggestions?
I managed to solve my problem thanks to SomeDudeOnTheNet. <--Awesome guy!
Now that I have S-Off and have CWM, I am trying to install a rom. I was recommended HenseMod. My issue at the momment is that it rebooted once on me clearing/wiping the phone, and rebooted again on me while trying to install a rom and another time it froze. Any ideas?
Working on one of these right now... currently have unlocked and S-Off, just flashed the recovery.img successfully, can get into the first screen of clockwork, but it freezes either as soon as I hit the button or on a white HTC screen.
once I got the zip install option to work, and installed the root.zip, but it just froze and rebooted shortly after.
I'm thinking that without su, the recovery can't push the root.zip or any other rom zips... so I'm still looking for a way to get root.
This is a tough nut!

I am following the directions from htcdev.com/bootloader
I got to the point where I am supposed to "get_identifier_token"
Now my phone is connected as it should be, I am in "fastoot usb".
Still, the only thing happens is that I get the following message in command prompt: "waiting for device". Nothing happens. I tried to restart PC and phone again: same problem.
Does anyone have an idea about what I'm doing wrong? I'm stuck.
Okay. Now I unlocked bootloader. I think the problem was USB-debugging was not turned on.
Trying to run clockworkmod, but keep getting error messages:
"you must root your phone for ROM manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "system/xbin/su".
When I try to flash clockworkmod recovery I get the following error:
"An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands".
My deviced is with unlocked bootloader, buy of course still S-ON. I understood from the threads around that that's not a problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927757&highlight=root
How can I install a custom ROM?
How can I install data2sd?
Can someone help? Thanks a lot.

Hi, what you need to do is go into your bootloader as you usually do, Volume - and Power Button, plug your USB and go into fastboot USB. Then you need to create a file on you C: drive called "fastboot" and put the following files in there "adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, AdbWinUsbApi.dll & fastboot.exe" and your recovery image, I suggest you use the offical clock work mod recovery which is available here,
if you do not have these files you can download them from here,
http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474956
once you do this then open a command dos window by typing cmd in the start search box of windows.... once the command window opens go to the right folder of C:\fastboot> where you saved the files.
Then as your phone is in fastboot USB and you are in the command window C:\fastboot>, type in the command window the following,
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Then press enter, what you should see is the below,
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
sending 'recovery' (2224 KB)... OKAY
writing 'recovery'... OKAY
If you follow the above then you should have clockworkmod recovery, you can then take the USB out and go back to the hboot in you bootloader and choose recovery under hboot by navigating with the volume button and power button.
I do need to inform you though that if you are one of the unlucky WFS owners that get the "Black Screen Recovery" issue where you go into recovery and you only get a black screen and you tactile buttons are on then you need to follow the bellow method to be able to see you recovery on you PC screen than on your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781105
Also here is a youtube video of what I mean

I know all this as I had the same issue and this helped me. Now I feel that I need to inform you about other issues... When you unlock the bootloader you can't flash a ROM and then just switch your phone on and it boots into the new ROM, there is a process you need to follow.
When you choose your ROM, and not all ROMs work with the Wildfire S new batch of phone as I had to find out the hard way, you need to flash your ROM and then open the .zip file of your phone copy the boot.img of the ROM paste it in the c:\fastboot> directory and again in the command window type,
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You will see the below,
c:\fastboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
sending 'boot' (2224 KB)... OKAY
writing 'boot'... OKAY
Then type,
c:\fastboot>fastboot reboot
And your phone will reboot into the new ROM allow 10 to 15 minutes... BE PATIENT.
I hpe the above helps you.

I managed to unlock the bootloader, and clockwork recovery is also on there.
I just want to root the phone (not to put an other rom)
Thanks in advance,

HELP. HOX is dead

Hello
Yesterday i unlocked bootloader on htc one x. Then i tried to root it but when i finished my hox did reboot and then reboot all the time. It goes on start screen of android and then reboot again. I cant do anything. Any idea or help?
How did you root it?
Did you flash a ROM without flashing its boot.img and fastboot erase cache?
Did you install a custom recovery?
What screen are you stuck on? "htc quietly brilliant"?
I remember when this happened to me when I first tried to root my phone (First Android phone actually) lol I freaked out.. In my case it's because I didn't make a full wipe after unlocking bootloader and flashing Cyanogen, just booted into Recovery, full wipe/wipe cache and it worked.
Tell us what you did like BenPope said, did you flash the boot.img for the ROM you installed?
the first i did was to unlock bootloader from htcdev. Afther that i tried to root by a guide from this forum:
ALTERNATE ROOT METHOD - 'INSECURE BOOT AND ROOT'
This zip file contains an insecure boot image to flash to your device and a script which will then push the root (SuperSU) files to your device. This is only tested on 1.27.401.2 / 1.27.401.7. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Download
InsecureBootAndRoot r3 - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid) - MD5: a16bff582cb0e25fd3b422652d753ca7
How to use InsecureBootAndRoot - Windows, Linux and OSX
- Download the InsecureBootAndRoot zip file above and extract to a directory
- Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume down' button pressed to enter the bootloader, then press the power button again to enter fastboot.
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-insecure-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-insecure-mac.sh' followed by './install-insecure-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-insecure-linux.sh' followed by './install-insecure-linux.sh'
The device will now flash the new boot image and reboot. Keep the device attached to USB and when it has rebooted, ensure USB debugging is enabled - the SuperSU files will then be installed.
CONVENTIONAL ROOT METHOD - 'SUPERBOOT' (currently not functioning on shippping devices).
Superboot is a boot.img that when booted, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash any partitions, no need to mess around with ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just boot the boot image using the instructions below and you're done!
Download
Superboot r1 - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid) - MD5: c79821d5d75d57dff8a5ffe7493241fd
The superboot image is also 'insecure', allowing you to use 'adb remount' as well as having full ADB root access to your device until such time as you reboot after running this process (it's a non permanent ADB root as it's a 'fastboot boot' and not a 'fastboot flash' but it IS a permanent root in all other regards!).
How to use Superboot - Windows, Linux and OSX
- Download the Superboot zip file above and extract to a directory
- Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume down' button pressed to enter the bootloader, then press the power button again to enter fastboot.
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-superboot-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh' followed by './install-superboot-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-superboot-linux.sh' followed by './install-superboot-linux.sh'
That was the steps. I didnt tried to put a custom rom yet. And the worst is that i need my number and i dont have an another device with micro sd. :/
It's funny, because there are two methods that you've pasted there. I have to ask, why did you not go with the recommended one? The one you didn't paste here?
Try it, you might like it.

I tried the first one and after i saw that my hpox rr all the time i tried the second one.
You mean this method?
EASIEST ROOT METHOD - 'RECOVERY + SUPERSU'
The easiest way to get root is now to install the official ClockworkMod release and then flash the latest SuperSU zip file. This approach is highly recommended (I also recommend running a backup as soon as you've flashed clockworkmod!)
I do now and nothing. Cant get the command.
I don't understand what "my hpox rr all the time" means.
At the top of your hboot does it say ENDEAVORU or EVITA?
What does "can't get the command" mean?
Edit: ahh, is it "command not found" when you try to run fastboot?

You could just flash a rooted rom and kernel now, it should work fine.
Flash this recovery http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
Install a rom from recovery, you can mount usb from recovery to copy rom to phone.
Then flash the kernel from fastboot that acompanies the rom.

ENDEAVORU is good.
I kind of expected you to be flashing clockworkmod 5.8.4.0 as the recovery.
Once that's done, you take a backup, download the SuperSU zip file, boot into recovery, mount sd as USB, copy the zip onto the SD card, unmount and flash it.

fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
I dont know what you flashed, but you'd be better off with the latest clockworkmod, version 5.8.4.0
Doing a backup from that recovery is easy.
What I dont get is why you didn't just root/unlock bootloader via htcdev.com

I'm confused, earlier you said you flashed recovery-1-28.img
You're going to have to be clearer on what you write here.

[Q] After downgrade touch don't work

My HTC wildfire touch don't work after downgrade from 2.34.186.1 to from 2.34.186.1.
The branding ist 1und1. After this i try to find the original OTA 2.34.186.1 to upgrade
to the old one that was on the phone before. - no way - i don't found
After this i unlocked the bootloader and i think that there is a way to upgrade any firmware
but its not possible.
My bootscreen:

The HTC boot normaly to the lock screen but the touch don't work.
Anyone an idea to solve my problem an install another rom?
Here is another thread that discusses a similar issue.
Hope it'll help.

Hmmm. This is going to be hard to get out of as you upgraded your Hboot. Does the phone still register fastboot commands? Also what downgrade thread did you follow?

That's not what I mean, to unlock your bootloader you would have had to issue the command fastboot OEM unlock, or fastboot flash OEM unlock unlock_token.bin or something similar. These types of commands are the ones I'm interested in I want to see if you can flash clockworkmod recovery pal.

I downgraded with the standard buzzdowngrade.zip package, step1 but the goldcard-step fail.....i flashed after hboot downgrade RUU_Buzz_Vodafone_DE_1und1_1.19.186.3_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_133745_signed.exe
Than was the problem with the touch ... it dont work.
After this i tryed many ruu's ....no way.
Than i downloaded from htcdev - PC4910000_Buzz_Froyo_hboot_1.02.0000_R3.exe and flashed and unlocked with Unlock_code.bin
I was thinking i would be able to unlock and update every rom

Ok so fastboot works, good good. Do you have clockworkmod recovery installed? If not follow my thread for rooting hboot 1.02.0000 and install clockworkmod but go no further.
Also just for your information the ruu will not install because of
1. Your honor is higher than the ones in the RUU,
2 your bootloader is unlocked.
We need to downgrade you to the WWE rom with hboot 1.01.0001 and hopefully that will restore your touch panel to working order

and now?

ok so what we want to do know is downgrade your hboot to 1.01.0001 so to do that we need your misc partition to be edited. as such i would like you to boot the phone into clockworkmod recovery and connect it to the pc with a usb cable. windows should install the drivers if it has not done so already.
next you will need to set up your command prompt for using adb/fastboot commands.
then we will pull a copy of your misc partition to your sdcard and then copy it into your windows adb folder.
then you will upload that image to me, i will make the necessary changes and then re-upload for you.
then you will flash it to the phone all going well, re-lock your bootloader and then downgrade your hboot and rom and hopefully regain touch input
then as an extra if you want to use a rooted version of that german ruu you were trying to flash i can make you a "safe to flash" version
ok, so....
step 1. Connect your wildfire up to your pc In clockworkmod recovery mode.
step 2. open a command prompt within your adb/fastboot folder. (the same one you used to flash clockworkmod recovery)
step 3. enter the following commands one at a time. copy paste is recommended.
Code:
adb shell
su
cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
exit
exit
adb pull /sdcard/misc.img misc.img
step 4. Upload this file to somewhere like dropbox or media fire and then send me a link to it.
in command prompt
su
/sbin/sh: su: not found
what i do wrong?

okey dokey, here is your new misc image. extract it into your adb folder.
i have edited this so it will re-lock your bootloader automatically once you have flashed it. one problem solved
also download this package, it has some tools you will need and the WWE rom you need to flash
lastly we need to make a goldcard. this will be hard given that your touch screen is non-functional. as such you will need a different, working android phone and YOUR sdcard. this trick is sdcard specific so dont swap them about
ok once you are ready with the right stuff, do these steps.
step 5. now we need to make a gold card. if you already have one, you can skip this part. first using your working android phone, download and install Goldcard helper from the android market. Run the app and copy down your SD cards reverse cid. double check it
step 6. now go to this website here and enter in your reverse cid. it will then let you download a goldcard.img.
step 7. now go back to the package you downloaded earlier with the WWE rom (named 1.01.zip) in it and run the goldcardtool.exe, this will flash the goldcard to your sd card. Warning! this will format your card!! in order to achieve this you will have to mount the sdcard from clockworkmod recovery to the computer, use mount usb storage and not mount sdcard.
step 8. once that is done we are now ready for the final push
Now the gold card is ready, i leave al the data on the goldcard, its not been formatted. Goldcard tool says, G: Goldcard is now ready.
The new misc image, must be copy to the phone ?

ok from here copy the Nmisc.img to your sdcard and do not rename it, leave it on the sd card within no folders.
then connect up the phone in clockworkmod recovery again, and mount the sdcard with mount sdcard and not usb mass storage.
lastly make sure that the 1.01.zip is in your adb folder.
issue the following commands.
Code:
adb shell
(your shell symbol should be a #)
flash_image misc /sdcard/Nmisc.img
exit
(now it should not be a #)
adb reboot bootloader
The phone should not reboot into bootloader and should say at the top locked OOW.
This is ok, if it does not say this then your misc image was not flashed.
if all is well issue these commands.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip 1.01.zip
This will state an error, and that it needs to be reflushed. this is what we want, if any other issue your goldcard may have failed.
repeat the last command to reflush.
Code:
fastboot flash zip 1.01.zip
(this will take a while.)
fastboot reboot
the phone should reboot into the WWE stock rom and hopefully your touch screen will be working again. if it is proceed to s-off with revolutionary here ignore all but revolutionary and then if you want the german ruu as a safe flash rom send me a link to the ruu and I will make it. but it make take a few days.
im at work atm so my replys will be delayed pal, good luck
