HTC MediaLink worth it? - HTC One X

I'm an AT&T US One X owner and am wondering if the MediaLink is worth a purchase. I'm seeing some mixed results in the other thread but this is definitely a big part of owning an HTC One phone.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

only one that could really answer that is you, i mean having it for just having it or get some real use out of it in which case there are better, cheaper options out there.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

want to put your content on a bigger screen? watch movies on a bigger screen? show off your apps and features on a big screen? If your answer is yes to one or all of these then it is worth it. otherwise don't bother

Only reason I'm asking is because some people reported that its buggy and doesn't work 100% correctly.

Actually, it's not much of a feature of the One Range, and I couldn't justify paying over £20 for it let alone £70, I just use my HDMI cable and adapter

HTC Media Link HD - First Look
Love it .

I've just ordered the eu version from amazon UK for £54 which I think is a fairer price. The earlier model is only £10 cheaper. £70 was way over the top for this device when you consider how much you have already spent on the device

I don't know if you've read my review, but I find it useful. I've actually found myself streaming music to my av center through my tv when my pc is off. Very easy and like other users have said, the rest of your media on a big screen is fantastic and easy and wireless! £54 is a great price too I think it's definitely worth that much.

Personally i would buy a device that works with DLNA for any device, so not necessarily the HTC MediaLink. If you ever switch from HTC to Samsung for example, you still be able to use it. It's kinda of a waste of money if it becomes useless when you switch brands. MHL adapter would also be a nice choice.

it seems like a good thing to have at home to show off to your friends, but beyond that i think that the hdmi and adapter option is cheaper also less prone to lag. Will tell more once it finally launches here and i get an opportunity to use it

Who's getting one?
I think it looks awesome, but a little expensive so I had some doubts if I should by it or not.
But now my carrier is providing me one for free because of delayed delivery on my HOX.
Any of you guys getting one?
Will we be able to use it with other phones/tablets?
I really want to use it with my gtab 10.1, so it would be awesome if someone could figure out, maybe porting the app (if its and app) from HOX to other devises.

Yes Im getting one but only because it came free with my One X order. In answer to your questions yes it can be used with other devices.
Ive got the standard media link adapter as well and that works perfectly on my Moto Xoom. If your concerned about the price there are cheaper alternatives that do the exact same thing. Just have a browse on Amazon for DLNA receivers.

The Media Link for the One series is different than the previous HTC Media Links (basically DLNA media players), in that it can mirror what you see on the phone's screen. So it's more like a "smart" wireless HDMI connection, since once you start media playback, it switches to media streaming mode like the old Links, and the phone can be used to do other things without interrupting the video on the TV.
I like the idea of playing a game through this, but there is noticable latency, so no Shadowgun, but Angry Birds would probably work well.

Does anybody know exact differences between DLNA and HTC media link technology?
I have a DLNA TV (LG 47LW575S), it is connected to my wireless router. I wonder, if it is possible to connect HOX without a "media link"...
Also, I don't want to have 2 wireless networks in my house.
I'll try to stream media as soon as receive my HOX (just ordered) and post a result here.

I have been using my one x to stream to the ps3. there are various dlna server apps in the market, I personally use BubbleUPnP on my one x. regarding the battery life, well if the screen is off I generally find the battery doesn't go down too quick, even while streaming or on a long call. the display is what seems too suck battery ie: games or browsing the web. anyway id save your money unless you really want to use all your apps on a large display/tv. or buy a mhl to hdmi cable online for a tenner does the same job as the medialink, though wired.

ive just ordered one and the speaker dock as well.
does anyone know if this is actually dnla so other devices would work (such as my pc and my archos 101 tablet), also is there a built in battery in the media link as the specs say there is a "charge cable" - if there is whats the battery life like on that. i hope there is as this would be ideal on my already crowded outlets by my main tv with xbox, wii, bluray, tv, tivo reciver, surround system, cable modem and finally the router.
thanks guys
my understanding was the media link only worked with Sense 4, so not sure its compatible with all devices. It is compatible with all TVs/monitors that have a HDMI port. THe Media Link comes with a built in rechargeable battery which is charged the same way as your phone with a micro usb cable.

Does anyone have any news about the availability of this item? I have already had to cancel several orders online, due to online retailers saying they have it in stock. A couple say they have it in stock but when you order, your order goes to backorder... So anyone with information about when its going to be released, or who the first company is to get it... that would be very helpful to me. PS. dont order from mobicity.com.au !

Not necessarily. It'd be nice to be able to take this to someone's house, connect it to their tv, and stream a movie or something. Sometimes finding an available outlet in those situations is annoying.
So I'm also wondering about battery life..

I couldnt agree more. People are reluctant to have you messing with the plugs on their television and peripherals. If you could simply plug into hdmi and watch a movie or two on battery it would be truly portable and much less intrusive if you were to take it to a friends or relatives house.

By the looks of it it seems the Media Link HD itself needs plugging into a power supply. All the videos I've seen of it on YouTube in operation show two cables coming out of it (the HDMI cable and presumably the power cable?). Plus when you look on the Mobile Fun site, it shows two ports on it...a HDMI port and a Micro USB port:

HTC media link dgh 100 incompatible with HTC ONE X

Purchased a HTC DGH 100(good old media link) last week off ebay after checking if its compatible with HTC one X and was under the impression that it is compatible but plays media in a lower resolution.
Received it today and tried pairing it with my Htc one X (i was so excited that I literally wanted to jump) and after trying for nearly an hour, I gave up and called up HTC customer service.
Spoke to a nice lady(sarcasm) over the phone who initially said to me "We are sorry sir, but we do not provide troubleshooting support for HTC Media Link". After a few mins of a heated argument regarding how crappy their customer service is, I finally got to speak to speak to her manager who was very nice(sarcasm again) and told me that htc media link is not compatible with htc one x and after showing them this link
http://www.htcaccessories.com.au/DG_H100.aspx
where "under category and cables" it mentioned htc one x, they agreed that there was a mistake on their website. I have been advised by HTC that they will try getting back to me with a resolution and advised me "we are not promising you anything" like they are warning me.
Will update the post soon with their resolution or any updates on this but just wanted to tell every one pathetic the HTC customer service is.
Crap, and they still havn't fixed the site
their customer service is really bad
i wudnt be surprised if they dont get back to me or fix up their website given how bad they were on the phone.
That's is terrible, HTC should really pull thier fingers out of their backsides and get the accessory released, I've had the dock, media link on order from amazon for 6 weeks now and they have failed to supply them.
I think you have grounds for a refund as it dosent work as advertised, have you contacted the seller?.
Also if it is DLNA can you not try one of the DLNA streaming apps from the marketplace?

I have contacted the seller but can't blame him as he asked me to check with HTC regarding the compatibility before I buy it. I asked if HTC could do anything to fix it or replace it with media link hd, but they said that they won't and after threatening them about taking this on fb,Twitter etc.. they said they will look into it. Lol, funny how I never use fb/Twitter unless I have a complain against some organization

The problem with imediashare is that my tv doesn't have DLNA n the so called media link has a closed software/hardware that doesn't lt the one x connect to media link using any other hardware. They better come up with a resolution or I am going the galaxy way

Your not the first and won't be the last, I'm also thinking of changing, unless htc get s-off and actually release updates to the UK I'm out probo for good. So near yet so far.... The older medialink should be compatible end of there is no excuse for it to be incompatible with future models. Because of this thread I think I will be cancelling my media link as it won't be compatible with future models.

HTC calls me and tells me that media link is compatible and when I ask them to help me fix it, they give up and request for more time to come up with a resolution.
On a sidenote, they are yet to fix up their mistake on the website and worse, they have added a few more phones to the list(like sensation, explorer etc) that I think may not be compatible.

Update 15 may 2012
Got a call back again and was asked to update the firmware which I did already. I was then asked to give out the imei of my handset to which I denied and then I was told to provide them with the software/firmware version of one x. After telling them that I have one device with 1.29 and the other with 1.26, they came up with a crappy excuse that it only works with 1.28!!!I then told them that it was ridiculous and they had no idea as to what they were talking and were coming up with crappy excuses. They then advised me that they can only help if I gave them the imei number and when I requested them to put that line in writing and email me so that I could use it for legal purposes I was advised that they will call me tomorrow to help me fix the problem.
Luckily Australian laws are consumer friendly and if not resolved in a few days, I am knocking the doors of the consumer affairs.

Getting HTC One X working with Media Link
If you upgrade the firmware on the Media Link, this should work.
Steps:
1. Download the HTC Media Link ROM Update for HTC Desire HD (1.11.0.0)
(You have to search for this, as I don't have the right to post links in the forums yet)
2. Hold the power button on the Media Link and then plug it into your PC using the included USB cable. After 2-3 seconds, it should start flashing orange and green.
3. Open the Media Link ROM Update executable file.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen until the Media Link has been updated to ROM version 1.11.0.0
5. Plug in Media Link to TV and use as normal.

T-Mobile One X Battery Cases

Hi all,
I have the T-Mobile version of the HTC one X (UK Version if that makes any difference)
I recently purchased a "Power Bank" battery case charger 3200mAh from Ebay - The listing stated the battery case would not work with AT&T HTC One X but did not mention the T-Mobile one X
The battery case arrived today and does not work on my phone, i have done some google searches but i cannot find the reason why it wont work. The Pogo pins are aligned correctly as far as i can see & i have made sure they are clean.
Does anyone know the reason why the T-Mobile version wont work with these case chargers?
Can I get it to work if I root my phone or do i need to return it for a refund?
Thanks.

I would e-mail the supplier mate too bad that it didn't work.. I have absolutely no idea why? Are you sure the case is "ON"? Most of the times there is a switch on the case..? Have you charged the case a whole night?
Hi,
Yeah I have given both a full charge.
The case has no power switch its just always on.
I know it doesn't work with at&t one x but it doesnt say anything about tmobile one x.
Why do they have to mess about with phone models, why can't they be uniform!
I've searched all over, the only battery case that 100% works with my version of the one x costs like £40 and I'm not paying that !
Ill just have to deal with the poor battery life. Phone doesnt last me three hours if I've watched a few vids and played a game or two.

Ebay Selling KF For $99. Worth It?

ebay selling the original KF for 99 bucks today. thinking about getting one but want to know if its worth it or should i just spend 200 for the nexus 7? any advice?
Hey buddy,
Ask in the general forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1307, since your question doesn't relate to android development, people here will just tell you to go buy an iPad already.
Hey man,
I think that you should probably just get an ipad.
What can you afford?
If $99 is all you can afford, then go for it, but don't get it just cuz it's cheap, that's not why a person should buy a tablet.
If you can afford it, the Nexus 7 is currently the best android tablet money can buy at the moment, because of support, features, performance, etc.
If you want a really good tablet experience though, the iPad is hard to beat in terms of support, amount of apps, screen quality, performance, battery life etc. etc. Unless you need a particular android feature, and you can afford one, iPad is the way to go.
whoops not sure why i posted this in dev. meant to go in Q&A. thanks for the advice ordered the ipad

I got mine for 79 including shipping on a referbished special. BUT I bought it mainly for reading at night which my older Kindle with 3g is not good at. After rooting and shared launcher I was pleasently surprised that compared with my larger tablet it was easy to grab for quick trips that I might need to do some browsing. Also its easy to watch movies and access prime through tether on my phone. If you want to spend 99 bucks on limited use than go for it.

umm, yeah, compared to expensive headphones they likely aren't better. But saying they are crap is hyperbole. I've used numerous headphones and these rank up there close to $50 buds easily.
T-Mobile is the only carrier that doesn't include ear buds.
As to the quality of the ones provided, they're pretty decent for included headphones. Nothing like my more expensive sets, but pretty good for free.
