[Q] Just got the ota ICS update... Anyone still waiting for it? - Acer Iconia Tab A100

Just wondering if the suffering is over..lol. Lemme know peeps.

I have the leaked ROM from a few weeks back, but haven't been notified of an OTA update and, as of a minute ago, it shows that my OS is up to date.

Hi, I just upgraded my A100 (US version) to the latest 4.0.3 software, but the newest software doesn't have any Chinese language display support. The older 3.2 software did. Does anyone know how to get the Chinese language support? Thanks!

What build number are you on? .014, .015, .017? I've heard the .017 pa_ca was missing languages. You might be able to manually change over to the .014, that has all of them, it is in the Dev section.

Still waiting. Gen 2 3.2.1

Still waiting too. 3.2.1 build Acer_A100_2.007.05_COM_GEN2. Rooted with Crossix's build.prop and SD card mount mods.

ACER_A100_2. 001.01_COM_GEN2
That's what mine says.
I'm rooted but no other mods.

I am unsure of the build because my Dad has the A100 right now. Is there a way to add a language without rooting the device?

Gen2 3.2.1 here, still waiting. Mine is completely stock, not even rooted.

Was travelling and the OTA update request kept coming up while i was in Malaysia (visiting relatives). The update kept failing, I figured it might be because I used Titanium Backup to integrate some of the updated apps (gapps, etc) into the ROM and that I might have to revert to a stock rom. (I was running low on space, too many apps? )
Got back home to Canada and now it says that I'm up to date on HC? Has the OTA update been removed or has it been delayed in Canada?

Nope I Bought Mine On Sunday At The Source And It's Updated To Android 4.0.3, So I Rooted it And Now Am Waiting On The Case I Bought On Ebay And My New 32GB Card To Arrive So I Can Do That Memory Card Swap With It.

nah dude, i haven't gotten the update either

I am still on 3.2.1 GEN 2. Been on it for a while. Update tells me that I am up to date. Support is useless. Talked with them 3 times and exchanged 3 emails. I tried several of their suggestions with no results. Got moved up to level support 2 days ago and they promised to call me with a solution. Still have not heard back. If this continues much longer I will try the downgrade to GEN 1 option or just go out and buy an I pad...

Hah, yeah saw it. Was really hoping that it would be Froyo but I guess not. Oh well, hopefully soon.
for those of us who are rooted, will we able to apply this update? & if so, will it preserve root?

That means froyo is really far away. They wouldn't be pushing an update if froyo was scheduled any time in the near future.

Will not reboot after installing Viper

Hi all,
Hopefully this is quick -- i did search several threads but didn't find a solution to this issue.
installed Samsung drivers
I rooted my Epic with noobnls - oneclick 2.5.5
updated PIT and modem with Odin
got to the clockworkmod screen
downloaded ViperROM__FRoZeN__EXT4-RFS_Dual_DK28_4.0.3
to the SD.
Wiped data and cache 3x,
installed Viper zip from the SD - successful.
went to reboot and ......
all i get is a phone symbol ..caution sign....PC symbol (some kind of connection to PC error)
I did a wipe and reinstalled Viper - same thing.
any ideas - I'm hoping this is a simple fix so I don't have break this down to stock and try it all over.
Thanks in advance.
PS- hate samsung and sprint for stalling out on a minor update and leaving this phone in the back closet.
Those symbols mean use odin
I think best thing for u t do is odin to stock and get ota froyo
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yeah - trying to get it back to stock Odin
not sure on why I should do ota froyo since it doesn't exist yet.

it was all good up until the reboot after installing Viper.
then blah.
I'll just keep working on it.

it's not coming out. another rumor based on nothing. If it was coming out - you would think that one of those douchbag companies would have put something official out - b/c they both taken a lot of crap for the delay. Unless they want it to be a big surprise - but I'm guessing they aren't announcing anything b/c at the last second - they'll pull it again for more "testing" ie adding more bloatware/useless crapps.
i made up my mind -- going to custom froyo instead of stock -
btw - got it back to stock and will try Viper again tonight or tomorrow.

same rumors about it being released after Christmas - so I'll still take it with a grain of salt - maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't.
Again, if it does come out - it is going to be some crap version poked and proded by Samsung and then approved by Sprint missing the good stuff but full of junk - so I'm gonna skip it anyway.

To address your issue, not to insult you, but when you say you got it back to stock to you mean stock dk28 or stock DI18? The viper rom you chose is only compatible with dk28. But again, no real reason to deal with dk28's bugs when official froyo is right around the corner
I don't care how many times Sprint or Samsung say "it's coming soon" - until it actually goes OTA - it doesn't count. They've been jerking people around for 6 months and are already 2 updates behind.
I got it back to DI18 using Odin and just reset the whole thing. I was under the impression that DK28 was pretty stable.
thanks for the insight.

This. The last the last time we had an "official date" from sprint it was leaked unofficial info that turned out to be wrong. This time, Sprint has put notice up in several places, included the authorized service center news for all of their indirect retailers (non-corporate stores and kiosks). Unless something major happens, we're actually getting it this time.

Nope, I flashed the ROM then downloaded a couple of apps from the Market as I was doing that I got the email.
All the links go to Google. I am just wondering is it something buried in the ICS code. Once you log on with your Google account it sends out a standard email to the account.
I don't really want to bother any of the dev's with it. They have enough to worry about right now without someone hassling them about something that is not that important in the grander sceme of things.
It's because the galaxy nexus is the only ICS Device with release codes for market so far. That will disappear once a more similar HTC device is released with ICS and we have a broader selection of release codes to choose from. Earlier beta's ran on test codes. They can be changed in build.prop.
Cheers man. I just could not understand it since it did not happen when I flashed the 1st and 2nd beta roms.
Thanks for posting this MrBC I also got this email and was curious about it.
I got this email as well MrBC...
Of course they can track what ROM use are using to browse android market. For example, I have recently update to Android revolution 2.3.5 and now not able to install few app which I used to have earlier on stock ROM 2.3.4.
I also got this
just ignore it lol
what i wondered was if it thinks we have a nexus why can we still not see some android apps lol
It's still beta so there are plenty of bugs. Its possible that there is a framework bug, or some component is missing. Then there is still the fact the a lot of apps on market are listed as not compatible with ICS. I'd expect it to take until 2012 before we have a fully functioning ROM and a fully working market.

Un-Rooted, And Holding Off Until The Update...

Had my SGSII for about 3 months now. Rooted the 1st week I brought it home. I've been flashing ROMs left and right, trying to find that certain one that best fits my lifestyle.
I've landed on the Darkside, and found my flavor there.
Because of "all this talk" about ICS, and only going (OTA) to unlocked un-rooted phones. I've successfully un-rooted, and went back to stock.
With all the benefits of having a phone rooted (nandroid backup, uninstalling bloatware), i ended up asking myself "WHY". Why do I really need to be rooted. The only time i ever do a nandroid backup is when I flash a new ROM. After much consideration, I ended realizing that the ONLY main reason I want my phone rooted is to re-place the Gmail.apk in the system's folder to a modded Gmail.apk - so I can put my unread count widget on my home screen.
Yeah yeah yeah.. i know there is a apk in the market named "Google Unread Count 2.0", but it doesn't read your unread count email in real-time. It takes a few minutes for the widget to update.
Other, than that there really is no pressing reason to have my phone rooted.
Now for the OTA update waiting game..

I find it amusing that the only justifiable reason for you to root is a modded gmail
There are so many reasons to root it's not even a question of "why".
How about Carrier IQ? Or full control over Theming? Custom Kernels, build.prop, CWM Touch Recovery? You can't be serious about a gmail notification being the sole reason for rooting.
Oh and btw, if you haven't learned this yet, you may want to pay attention:
Once the update starts rolling out to the general public, the official version will be leaked on xda and you will be able to flash through CWM. I'm sure within days there will also be a rooted stock version as well. This will be well BEFORE you get the OTA.
So, if you want to give up control of your device just to wait longer for something that hasn't even officially been announced yet, more power to you. Say hi to Carrier IQ for me

Who said it's even coming to your phone, just because Samsung said it's now being sent OTA does NOT mean you will get it. The fact that you have a carrier branded phone means that Tmobile will get it's hands on it first then do it's wonderful (sarcasm) magic and bloat it with there apps like Tmobile TV and so on. Then IF they choose to make it available they will send it there's NO time frame on that. All I have to do it's point out the Tmobile's version of the Samsung Galaxy S, the Vibrant, which NEVER got Gingerbread like the other Galaxy S phone that did. Samsung announced and released an OTA for the Galaxy S but Tmobile in there infinite wisdom chose NOT to release it to the Vibrant. So just because Samsung announced and is sending a OTA ICS does NOT mean you're going to get it. You will have to WAIT for your carrier IF and when they announce it, PERIOD!
Though it may only he available to stock unrooted users, its often a matter of a few days to get an rooted stock rom up so thats not an issue for me

personally, i like the ability to get into the rooted side of es file explorer to modify the build prop, change lcd density, insert init.d script edit for better battery life. hell, how about undervolting the kernel with oc apps to get upwards of 24 hours out of a single charge? also, while the tmo roms are good, they cant hold a candle to the 2.3.5 roms from ATT...i dont know what it is but those roms run like a dream on this snapdragon soc.
final thought - I love tmo, dont get me wrong, but if you think that tmo will be the first to get ics ota then maybe you know something i dont. considering that, i hypothesize that ics (or even cm9) will be available for flashy goodness long before its ever beamed to our phones.

I also havent rooted since getting my replacement phone... The phone is great without it and 75% of the roms and themes are the same thing just a dif battery mod or kernel (not many choices on this phone) I just think rooting isnt that big of a deal anymore since phones are becoming more powerful

To each their own. Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has them, and some (like your comments) simply stink.
If you don't have anything to give to benefit, then get the [email protected]#k out of my thread, and stop trolling, or i'll report you.
I mean it.

Guys I put a case on my phone today. I know some of you guys don't use them but I don't see why you don't.

tmobile update removed live wallpaper

I just received an update from tmobile, I was already on 2.3.6 and still am after the update, however some of the live wallpapers that originally came with the phone have been removed including my favorite the nexus. Is there any way to get this back? Also, I am not rooted as I am waiting for the official ICS update.
You can do woad live wall paper from the market. Usually if you know the name its easy to find but. For future reference root and back them up with titanium back up
