Skinomi TechSkin with Bumper Case? --> What kind of protection? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I will be receiving my new GSM Galaxy Nexus sometime Wednesday or Thursday after my Atrix (finally, lol) bit the dust. Before that I had the Palm Pre with the soft touch back, and when I upgraded to the Atrix I found the phone slipping out of my hand a lot. I want to avoid that nonsense with this new Nexus.
However, I have rather large thighs & I wear slimming fitting pants (not skinny jeans, but a nice slim cut that's exacerbated by my legs) so I don't want anything bulky that's going to make this larger phone any bigger than it is. I was thinking that I love the look of Skinomi's TechSkin Brushed Steel skin (link: http://www.skinomi.com/sk10074-samsung-galaxy-nexus-brushed-steel-skin-protector.html), and that combining it with a bumper case would give me adequate protection. I realize there are far better cases out there for protection, but something slightly more protective than a bumper case is a level I'm happy with.
Does anyone have any recommendations on bumper cases? Are there any that are compatible with any of the docks, most notably the car dock?
Thanks for the input guys.
Here's the skin in question. I think it is extremely handsome.

I've got a SGP Neo Hybrid that I cut the backing out around the battery door and covered the door with a carbon fiber Skinomi tech skin. You can see pictures in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23152512&postcount=236
It has protected the phone pretty well, I've dropped it a few times, once or twice on concrete. As for a dock, I don't use one but the SGP case covers the 3 pins on the side you would only be able to use the USB port on the bottom. Hope this helps.

Ultra Thin 0.3mm thick case, works with official extended battery, pics inside.

I ordered one of these 0.3mm "thin" cases the other day and it arrived today. Initially it feels quite weird and paper like out of the packing but once on the phone it feels pretty good. It has about the same protection as the official mesh case and there is a small lip above the screen bezel that it wraps around so isn't going to pop off if dropped like the official case does.
It is matte textured so won't get finger marks or grease marks and also the bump in the speaker area is less pronounced than other cases so feels sleeker in the hand. It works perfect with the extended battery!
Yes it's very thin and I don't know how much it will protect against heavy impacts like the Walnutt bumper case (in the pictures) but the phone keeps its thinness with this and to the untrained eye it doesn't look like the phone is in a case at all. It is semi translucent so the Samsung logo from the battery cover shows through as well whch sort of adds some authenticity.

Does this case works with extended 2000mah battery ? And where did u get the second one case?
1: Perhaps you missed the bit in bold. Read post #1 again!
2: It is the Walnutt bumper case as discussed in the other thread on the first page of this forum.
Does this work with the Genuine Samsung Car Dock do you know?
Was wondering about this. I have one of them thin cases, and was thinking of getting a extended battery.
Youve solved my query!
Where's selling 2000mah batteries cheap in the UK.

I didnt missed it. U said its for extended battery, but not to which..But ok.And where can I get Walnutt bumper? I cant find it on ebay. And which one is better? Thx
i have already buy this on ebay , i wait for shipping
Me too. Can't wait - Looks great!...
On such a thin phone, a thick case feels so out of place....
Compared to the official Samsung case, do you find it more grippy?
Also, how do you find the alignment with the microphone holes?
It's not rubber so it's less grippy, even the Walnutt bumper case has more grip.
Ah damn. I'm just looking for the thinnest case possible to increase the grippiness of the phone! I've got the official case already.
Thanks.
EDIT: Ended up buying it anyway, $2.22 delivered .
bought one too from ebay for 2.28 delivered , nice find
same...
always follow robbies posts on ocuk forum, so i know its worth a punt
Going to sound like a stupid question, but,
What keyboard do you have in the picture?
Haha
I have one of these, bought it off eBay for 99p and I must say it feels very cheap because it is very cheap. This is ideal for just dust protection, the material is just a thin layer of sheeeet, however I wasn't expecting much from it, so you shouldn't either.
bought one. thanks!!

Looking for a Case recommendation

I know there are a lot of threads already about cases for my Samsung G II (Epic 4G Touch)
Heres the thing. I don't want a huge case. Why get a sleek thin phone just to put a bulky case on it?
What are some suggestions for a minimalist case that is better than just putting a sticker on it?
There are a few choices that I have found...
Hard Snap on Case - very thin but doesn't protect from drops very well
soft thin case very thin but I would imagine it would be hard to get in and out of a pocket from it "sticking" to your pants.
Trident Aegis case not as thin as the others, but definitely not bulky. Very good protection, no kickstand however.
Casemate Pop White case with kickstand pretty much like the aegis with a kickstand. I have one but I am not impressed with the build quality of the silicone. It flakes off in places due to the friction of pulling it out of a pocket.
For the "sticker" route the best I've found is:
Full Body Invisible Shield This will protect from scratches but not drops, etc.
Got one of these a few months ago and couldn't be happier.

Incipio feather light has treated me well. Very sleek and light.
This is the case i have had since the phone came out. Love the case! Sleek, slim and protects your phone. There is a whole thread about this case. Price is great too. I highly recommend it!!
Hope that helped. Happy Hunting.

I've been using this one since I got the phone, slim, sleek, and with a kickstand!

I would personally have to say the Trident Ageis, very close to the otterbox line but available in more colors...plus they are a tad cheaper as well...
doesn't really get more minimal than this. I have one on all 3 of my phones. comes in different colors.

I disagree. The matte version of Diztronic's (formerly TPU Cases) case does not stick at all. There is just enough of a texture to feel like you have a solid grip, but smooth enough that it never sticks in your pocket.
I have the same requirements in a case as the OP, and I think a TPU case is a great idea. It has protected my phone from a handful of short falls onto a variety of surfaces without an issue.
I purchased the case after reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266308
I believe the overwhelming majority of reviews are positive for the case. Check out the Diztronic's page here: http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=36&products_id=147
I am curious about the Nillkin case, but considering they seem to be only available when ordering from China, and that in the past, I've had snap-on cases scratch phones, I am worried. Here is a review of a Nillkin case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485054
Buy a few different ones and figure out what you like best. I tried a few different styles of tpu/rubber case and ended up with a trident aegis. My phones in the past all had minimal rubber case or none but it just feels right on this phone.

Walnut S2 Lite case

Anyone ordered this case sold by Walnut on Gmarket:
H T T P://english.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=217473693
A slim case is what I want, currently using casemate barely there but I don't like the glossiness of the plastic as it attracts fingerprints more than the screen!
I also have the original Samsung mesh case but it has snapped in two of the corners and gets caught on fabric when in pocket etc.
Costs including shipping to UK is ₩ 41000 which works out about £23 - slightly expensive..

hi, i dont recommend you to get that since the bottom of the phone is not protected. thin it may be and it also has a nice textured surface at the back but if protections not good. nahh..
I wouldn't advise a barely there case either they are **** both me and my missis have always had them on a previous phones and found them to be great but for the S2 they are rubbish, both mine and my missis cases have failed in the same way where the volume rocker is, most cases have a cut out but the BT case has a thin piece of plastic round the top which just snaps off. There really was no need for case mate to do it like that as all other cases have a u shaped cutout but this has a stupid bit off weak plastic.
Thanks for the replies guys, might stay away from this one but I can't think of any other good slim cases other than buying another mesh case :-\
Try the Venom Armour Shell case. I have the black one and while protection doesn't match bumper style cases it does offer decent protection and looks/feels great.

Pics of modified bumper case with Seidio backdoor and holster

Hi all,
My previous thread illustrated some pictures of the Seidio case vs the Otterbox case:Seidio extended backdoor and Active case pics. Although the Seidio case was decent, I didn't need all that bulk for everyday (when I'm not traveling or camping).
I didn't have the heart to gut my otterbox case, so I came across Angeliou's thread listing an inexpensive black bumper case: Black Bumper for S3 (HQ pics) Recommend!! from http://www.ebay.com/itm/Simple-Black...item3f1b0aa03f.
I purchased from the ebay link and waited a few weeks for the case... Hong Kong address on the return address (I'm in the U.S.A.).
For the price, I figured if I screwed up this inexpensive bumper case it was no big deal. I took a rotary tool to the inside plastic edge so the Seidio backdoor fit. It's not a perfect cut, but I was anxious to get it setup. Additionally, I scuffed up the shiny plastic edge of the case so that it had a brushed look to match the rubber and the Seidio backdoor. Forgive the smudges and lint on my phone, as we're doing some renovation at my house. This case fits in the Seidio holster and slides better in my pocket when I don't use the holster. I find myself using the holster 95% of the time since I got it, as it makes access much easier while wearing jeans, especially when sitting down. The bumper case fits a little loose within the holster but is secure. It will not fall out of the holster (although I have a bad habit of moving large pieces of furniture through small doorways which tends to rub against the release tab; hasn't released yet though).
I am finally completely satisfied with my extended case setup. I might replace the Seidio battery with a larger mAh Mugen in a couple years. However, for now, I can use the phone regularly with all the battery draining features on 24/7 and still get a day to a day and a half out of the phone.

I have a bumper case similar to the one you use . I'm going to go cut it up right now. Thanks for posting this!
I purchased this and it fits perfectly no cutting required.

Question Looking for the slimmest clear case available

I've tried a ton of different cases, but always go back to the Samsung Aramid because I just can't stand the bulk of most other cases. Now that I've got my Fold3 skinned, I'd like to be able to see it, and I'd rather not go naked. I've tried a couple of clear cases so far and, while they look pretty good, they're just too bulky for me to use on a daily basis.
Have any of you found a clear case with a thickness similar to that of the Aramid (or at least approaching that size)?
Where did you get the skin from , if you don't mind me asking ?
I'm using the araree nukin 360p clear case with my D Brand teardown skin and loving it. Adds very little bulk to the phone. It comes with two differnet hinge protection options, one for the spen and one smaller thinner one for hinge protection without the spen. You could also use the case with the hinge protection removed for an even less bulkier option. I've dropped it a few times also and its survived just fine.

I appreciate the input. I happen to have the black version of that same case, but I actually find it to be too bulky as a daily for my tastes. I only use it when I'm going to the beach or know that I'll be in other areas where the chances of it being dropped or exposed to debris are higher than usual.
It's going to be tough to beat the aramid for slim form factor. This phone, IMO, has the highest sensitivity to added bulk. In other words, cases; even the ones phrased "thinnest", still feel on the bulky side. The truly bulky cases make you feel like you're carrying a compact hardcover book around!
Peel makes some really thin cases which are about as thin and protective as skinning. Being a rather avante-garde product, case production runs are somewhat limited especially when compared to a more popular phone. (eg. iPhone XR)
