[Q] HOX quickly heats up - HTC One X

Is it normal for HOX to heat up (quite a bit) very quickly when browsing web (Chrome beta)? It usually heats up near camera and on the opposite side. It also gets very hot on charging while using it (much less without usage). Doesn't seem to show performance issues though.
Thanks for your answers.

From what I've heard, I think a lot of the innards are packed around the camera (and that probably means the cpu/gpu)....hence why it heats up when being used intensely.

It heats up if you are using the UMTS/HSDPA-Connection.
Try to surf with WLan or GSM and you will see that it wont heat up that much!

It happens when I'm on wifi. Maybe I can check the temperature somehow? Is there unwanted or critical temperature?

Quick update
The phone seems to heat up less with stock browser.
So far the more tabs/tasks are open the hotter it gets but why is it so hot from the browser?
Still I would like to know what are the temps to avoid?
Do your phones get very hot and in which circumstances?

Flash a custom kernel then use Setcpu to downcloack the cPU if it crosses a certain temp

Battery overheating a lot (CDMA version)

My battery seem to overheat alot, its even uncomfortable to hold up to my face sometimes. Is this normal? The back gets very hot two.

My GN seems to get ridiculously hot pretty often for NO reason. Up around the camera is usually where the heat is focused.
Yup around the camera is where it happens to me too. It usually only happens when I stream Google Music or Slacker
Mines gets hot there too while im just browsing

Just browsing? That can't be good. Are you rooted? If so, how high do you got your phone over clocked? Maybe you also may have too many processes opened
Most LTE devices heat up under browsing. Its not the battery that gets hot.
Also, I cannot think of a single phone I have had on Verizon that did not get warm during extended calls.
mine heats up a lot also. After talking or browsing for a while it does get warm.
What's your LTE signal strength? If you only have a bar or so, it's been my experience that the phone will heat up trying to keep the connection. At work, I've had to turn off LTE in order to keep the phone cool and save the battery.

Two reasons why that area gets hot:
1) LTE antenna
2) SoC (CPU/GPU)
Both are in the top of the phone, away from the battery. If you're taxing either the CPU or your data connection, it will heat up. As long as your battery isn't getting hot (heat increases the decay rate in lithium-based batteries) you're fine. Silicon can take a lot more heat than your hand can without sustaining damage.
I might need to get a case for my phone and screen protector

I have Battery Monitor Widget installed, and it has been enlightening. Here are my observations, using the charger that came with the phone:
The following behaviors happen on the stock ROM (using the Franco Kernel), CM9, and BlackIce:
If I am on WiFi and charging, it charges quickly, and the battery temperature reported by the app stays within the default limit (45C).
If I am on 3G, and on the charger (whether using the phone for anything or not!), the app shows the battery temp rising quickly, the charge rate drops to zero. The battery is no more than 35C based on my best guess when touching it, HOWEVER the area around the camera is very warm I (where the phone radios are). If I unplug the charger for a minute or two, the temp drops, and plugging back in will start charging again, for a short time, until it heats up again.
Underclocking seems to help this issue, as I discovered, a short while ago (playing with the BlackIce ROM, today), and I will update, once I play with it some more. This said, my suspicion is that the processor heating up is the issue, and NOT the battery, though Battery Monitor Widget claims the battery is overheating. Throttling the processor should help. Underclocking and undervolting BOTH, should help even more, I bet.
It's normal for LTE devices to warm up during extended/heavy use. It's not bad for the device unless you hear a pop or smell burning.
Heat shields FTW!

It IS, however, a problem, if your device is getting warm enough that it ceases charging itself, which has been my experience.
Imagine this scenario: Your phone is below 15% charge, and you plug it in, hoping to be able to get through the day. It charges for five or maybe ten minutes, then you see the battery level start to DROP, rather than rise. (and forget charging, in the car, while you use navigation, or play music, of both) This is what is happening with mine.
The Battery Monitor Widget says that the battery is overheating, when, in fact this seems to be processor and radio related, since it only happens on 3G (and presumably LTE, though I haven't verified it) and only when allowed to operate at a normal clock speed on the CPU--forget overclocking, that worsens the issue, too, and all of this happens, even when the device is sitting idle.
This happened to me on both the FD01 and FD02 radios (I didn't use FC12 long enough matter), so I suspect that we can rule out the radio.
Reiterating, this happens on the stock ROM (with Franco Kernel), and both CM9 and BlackIce, with their respective kernels that they are packaged with. This begs the question of whether it is a problem with the process that monitors the battery charging using up more CPU than it seems necessary for such a mundane task,
Everything else on this phone works wonderfully, so I don't believe that I have a bad device. I should not have to UNDERCLOCK such a high tech device, so that i can charge it effectively when it is sitting idle.
Any thoughts on this? Anyone else have these issues?

[Q] Galaxy Nexus extreme heat fixes?

I preordered the Galaxy Nexus for Sprint the week before the release, and I've been having heat issues since I got it.
So I paid for "TempMonitor" on Google Play so I could monitor the temperature of the battery but the battery was only 40c and rarely goes above 45c. The CPU however is what is getting hot. When I say this thing gets hot, I mean it, and only while charging and in use. If its not charging, it will get warm but not hot like I'm talking. During light usage the CPU will rise to 55c or more and while playing a game it has gone as high as 65c, it burns to touch the screen at these temperatures and when it gets hot like this the touch screen also becomes unresponsive for multitouch.
Already starred the issue #23044 on android's google code page for the multitouch issues though.
Exchange if possible. Those temps seem to high to offset by anything you can do tweaking wise. Or you have something rogue using cpu cycles keeping the heat up.
...
Do you have a case? My Seidio Active does a GREAT job at insulating the heat coming off the phone and holding it in.
If I'm playing a CPU/GPU intense game or app, it'll easily be 15 degrees warmer with the case than without it.
I do have a case so that's probably the reason. Mostly silicon rubber. I've just never had a phone get so hot I thought it was unusual.
I use Watchdog Lite to monitor background apps for high CPU usage and it rarely ever goes off. The only app I use that it notifies me about is Facebook which has the tendency to use 40-50% CPU while in the background
This phone does get hot when I'm on the internet and only then its the top half where I imagine the CPU is

I took off the case.and have been browsing these forums. Still running as hot as 65c with random jumps in temperature. It will go from 55 to 65 in a matter of seconds.
Over 3G? That would be almost normal. Also stock correct? I get a little bit warm over wifi browsing so I would assume some heat over poor 3G signal.

nexus heat issues?

does anyone else is nexus get really hot when surfing the internet or doing anything else. I've only been using the phone for 15 minutes and it's already dropped 10 percent. idk its up to about 118 degrees
is this pretty common with this phone?
Clock speed
Usage
Screen brightness
Those affect how your gets.
Are u an aggressive user and clocked it up high and always have high brightness.
No only 15% brightness no over clock. New phone just got it today just seems to heat up asap...and gets over 110 degrees easily. The of course causes major battery drain. Prob normal for this phone just never experienced heat like this before
Isn't the processor on the Gnex designed to do a panic restart when it reaches 110 C's ? :/ yes its a big issue i've noticed that the phone doesn't get that hot when using stock Rom weird...
I don't get over 110 and I'm OCed to 1.3gHz, auto brightness on.

The only time mine gets abnormally hot is during a phone call. Im even underclocked and it still does.
getting hot in a smart phone this powerful is normal. I had the S3 for week, that sucker gets hot!
I agree with OP. Mine gets noticeably warm when scrolling through large non-mobile web sites. It cool when scrolling through apps like tapatalk, market, reader apps. It must be something to do with browser engine
Mine gets quite warm as well. Especially with games like gta 3 and Final Fantasy 3.

please don't forget that you're holding a device with a dual core CPU, clocked at 1200 MHz, without fan, water-cooling or anything. ever tried touching a computer-cpu?
(don't do that, lol)
Mine can easily get to 110 degrees. It definitely has a heat issue. My Razr Maxx can get warm too, but not hot like this GNex. It hurts to palm sometimes !
LTE / Camera / Data stuff . / Charging all contributes to this.
Thank god it has removable battery, since battery life will be significantly dampened by heat.
Mine gets hot since Jelly Bean... Maybe "project butter" is intended to melt our phones like butter
remember, battery temp and cpu temp are two completely different things. cpu temp will get lowered automagically in the gnex when it reaches a certain point(heat throttling is enabled in the gnex, unless you disable it), and it will shut down the cpu when you reach 110C, not 110F, that is a safety feature. 110C is 230F btw.

[Q] T-mobile G3 Battery smells burnt at heavy use, CPU and battery Temp

Hi all, I've had the T-mobile LG for couple weeks now and the phone heats pretty bad although I've never got the high temperature warning yet. However, I'm a little bit concerned about the battery temp.
My battery temp has gott up to 42C/108F when gaming ( I was playing Golf Star to be specific) and even up to 45C/113F when I tested the phone with UHD video recording (the CPU temp got over 80C/176F during that video test). On the back of the battery there's little icon showing >40C/104F with a cross. I was wondering if it's dangerous if the battery got over that temperature when the phone is being used?
Moreover, the battery even has some sort of burning smell when its temp over >38C/100F now. Is that something I should concern about? It smells fine when its temp is around 35C/95F or lower.
The battery temp while charging seems fine when it's only around 33C/91F. The CPU usually at 45-50C/113-122F when charging.
Ambient temp has been around 40F-50F when I notice the issues above fyi.
One more thing I'm concerned about is the CPU always gets over 70C/158F or even 80C/176F every time when it starts up.
I was also wondering if I should be concerned with those issues and whether your guys experience similar issues. My phone was running with everything STOCK when the above info is recorded
Thanks in advance for your inputs, guys.

LG G4 heating

Hi,
How much does your LG G4 heats up? is it constantly warm even with low-moderate use?
Please share your experiences so far!
Mine idles around 30C, hits maybe 35 under heavy CPU load, and gets up to 40-45 while charging (especially when using the fast charger). It's warm enough that I put a small fan in front of it while it charges (heat is bad for batteries) but otherwise I don't really notice. This is Canadian model (H812), rooted and XPosed, but no mods to thermal systems.
Mine (LG H815-AR) does not seem to overheat on idle or charging but when I play a game it heats a little bit. Specially on Smash Hit, that does not runs smoothly as it should (a slight frame by frame lag sometimes). That is incredible, on my LG G2 Smash Hit was a real Hit! No heat and no lag at all... Software update needed or Qualcomm problem?
mine gets to 42-45 when playing (pretty fast) , usual is 30-34 . living in a hot country though
Mine is @30-35 in idle, in games (Dungeon Keeper in particular) can get to 60-65 which is hot, but nothing to worry about...
I had same issue, so after trying all the available internet fixes including factory reset, I decided to mail to LG, PFB their reply (guess heating up is just fine unless you want to burn your skin )
-----------Reply to Customer Enquiry------------
Dear Customer,
Your phone is an electronic device that generates heat during normal operation. Extremely prolonged, direct skin contact in the absence of adequate ventilation may result in discomfort. Therefore, use care when handling your phone during or immediately after operation.
If your phone sometimes heats up than usual, there isn’t cause for concern since the device is functioning normally. For example, your phone may get warm when you’re using on Wifi Or Unstable 3G network Connection.
The Reasons why your device may get warm are
(a)Playing videos, games, or other media apps.
(b)Tethering your device or using it as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
(c)Using the phone while it’s charging.
(d)Downloading or uploading a lot of data over 3G or Wi-Fi connection.
The Ways to prevent your device from heating up are
(A)Keep your phone away from direct heat or excessive sunlight.
(B)Avoid keeping your phone in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas where heat can easily build up.
(C)Don’t use a case or cover that isn’t made for device .
Or
(A)Try by Simply closing the applications that are running in background
(B)Pause resource-intensive features or apps until your phone cools down.
Your phone is an electronic device that generates heat during normal operation. The actual reason for this concern is the extremely high resolution LCD used in this phone.
The Quad HD IPS display provides with four times the pixels of HD with a superior pixel density. You can see sharp, detailed imagery on screen with an advanced pixel structure that provides a near infinite contrast of deep blacks and bright whites as well as more accurate color reproduction.
Due to this Quad HD LCD, battery drainage will be more as compared to other models & hence battery backup will be lesser & due to high data processing , more heat will be generated.
Higher resolution results in increased data processing and speed of GPU, CPU, DDR memory and etc. All of these factor in power consumption increases the temperature of device also.
This heating is absolutely normal & will cause no damage to the phone.
Also The phone has a inbuilt thermal protection, which reduces the CPU usage, brightness etc when the temperature increases.
Do register on their site and ask them all the queries to be sure its not a defective piece. Mine seems to get fine with the day by day usage, not sure why though
Regards
SK

I used to do that disabled 2 Big Core and or lower clock to 1.5Ghz.
But since I installed CTT Mod....I don't have to do that. Its Run Cool.
