Can't believe no one has posted about this yet - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Apparently tcp has developed a complete booting ics kernel from source
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=etQxrNT722U

That's because we all know TCP is an excellent developer and we are grateful to have him with us.

You mean like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1643585

TCP is a prime example of how it should be done. He used others work in with his own to further development for this device and then credited the people that helped him along the way. This is how it should always be done.

Nice!

This sounds like a diss.

Here's source to progress on an ics kernel for the touch as well.

The only progress with source on an ics kernel that I'm aware of publicly is linked above. If you're talking about gingerbread, that is completely different than this kernel.

Not at all. The development community is all about team work. It is also about giving credit where its due. TCP does both. I am being serious about what I said. It shows true character for TCP to take on a project like this and then to conduct himself the way he does.

You said in another post that you had "kanged " Scott's kernel. I have to say I don't believe you "kanged" anything. If you had then you would have claimed all the credit for yourself. Your OPs have credits for all that has helped and made contributions no matter how small. To me that isn't kanging. That's sharing and working together. That's what I meant by what I said. I'm serious when I say your setting an example of how things should be done. Well done sir.

Not much of a development community yet.

I am new to Samsung, I came from an HTC phone. Over on the EVO3d there was tons of roms and themes second bootloader was unlocked. Was just wondering how it is on this side. I miss flashing things lol.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It seems like that, but in reality the phone was out for a month almost before it was unlocked. The devs had plenty of time to play with the contents of the phone.
This phone has been out like a week.
Woaah buddy, gotta be careful with what you say here.
Anyways, I came from the HTC evo 4g community which has been around a lot longer than this one. But still, it took a month or two to get things going.
I mean the 3D just got root like a month ago. I think progress here is going swimmingly. Just give a few more weeks.
We probably wont have the sheer quantity u are used to, but i assure you we will have plenty of high quality roms and themes.
I wasn't being negative. Was just wondering what developers are on this phone and what kind Samsung has. What I mean by not much of community is not many roms yet. If anyone thought I meant disrespect I'm sorry.

Well cyanogen now works for Samsung so what does that tell you about who Samsung has? ;-) I think Samsung is trying to turn its rep around.
I also came from the evo 3d and am very happy with the switch. Sure the evo 3d has a lot of roms but a lot of them are the same ****.. and there aren't too many "real" devs on the evo 3d.. a majority of them are just cooks who ran the stock rom through a kitchen just adding tweaks. Hell empire who clams to be a dev didn't write a single line of code. Just mashed up other peoples work

It SHOULD be stressed that only the founder Steve Kondik was hired, NOT Cyanogen as a whole. The team continues on, business as usual. Just to clarify
Rome wasn't built in a day. It's only been a week. I would rather have the devs take their time and release something solid and better than a themed stock ROM but that takes time... especially if it's thoroughly tested. It seems like a new trend to release ROMs with a few hours of testing so little things pop up like an apk missing or a function force closes. I will try ptfdmedic's ROM when it releases because I know his work from using it on my Epic. I am sure the devs are in the lab building masterpieces as we speak.

themikmik.com/showthread.php?7841-Theme-09-20-11-Blue-Glass-(V2.5.4)-for-Mik-2.5x
It'll take a bit but I'm certain we'll see increased activity soon.
First, based on comments, a good many probably just got their phones if they ordered from 3rd party vendors. Especially Let's Talk.
Secondly, the transition may take some getting used to. Going from OG Evo to 3D was primarily the same software. In fact, many probably worked with it with their OG Evo before they got the 3D. So now they have to "get to know" Touch Wiz, Odin, etc.
.....

I agree but I'm done with the bounty donations... I will donate once a quality work is complete. So far on the bounties I contributed to, not much work has came out of it. Hell, Bubby just took the money & ran....
well but eugene is not bubby. Eugene already developed so much stuff for the vibrant and he's a hard working dev.

Faux Kernel

I saw mention that Faux created a kernel for ICS on our device. I dug around and found this: http://faux.androidro.ms/ (search for herc).
I did some searching and didn't see any dedicated threads regarding this development.
Anyone got any information or insight about this? What ROMs is it compatible with? Any performance or data on it?
Thanks!

Be mindful this thread was originally made for fauxes GB kernel, most of the comments pertain to that. Go to the last 10 pages or so and you will find posts there about his ICS kernel.

butter smooth

I beleive everyone deserves a chance. That being said i dont know what would be sadder.Having a dev promise stuff and not deliver,or having the chance we lost a developer because he was so quick to be judged. In my opinion the fact he added 1 new difference to a rom makes it different. To the developer. If you can change this rom like you said,do it prove them wrong. If you cant then its messed you would get peoples hope up.

Thank you thread

So there has been a lot of negativity of late that I am noticing regarding the Jelly Bean roms, stock JB, broken links for downloads, you name it.
I just wanted to create a thread, and maybe it's a bit redundant, that is dedicated to saying thanks to the Developers.
Appropriately then, i would like to thank:
AdriVelasquez for the Lifeless ROMs, his "how to" guides and many mods and tweaks
LokifishMarz for Imperium
Shadow1 for his unlock AIO, the radio update and the stock flashable JB ROM
Epic for the camera Mod
Jokersax for his kernel
Xboxfanj for development going back to my Epic 4g
Everyone doing work behind the scenes
ShellNutt for sticking with me in IRC while learning to use LGNPST
Nericus, while not development per se, he wrote the "how to disconnect the battery" thread, which is ridiculously helpful.
I know there are people I'm missing, so i will update this later, but these are the people responsible for the development i have used to date and I'm grateful for their time and work. The OG has without a doubt flown under the radar, but it's a great phone, and the development i have seen has been excellent thus far.
Again, thank you.

xboxfanj - Well...I would like to thank him for everything really. Without him we wouldn't have much.
Shelnutt and all of Team Codefire - For unlocking the device and everything else you guys do.
Sharkboy - For all the work and testing you have done for almost everything on here.
Dees_Troy - The official support from TWRP has been phenomenal and a blessing.
evodev - For all the work he has put in with his ROM and all the help.
autoprime and everyone on IRC - All the up to date information and help especially with the EFS issues
b-reezy - The stock ZV9 ROM was amazing when it first came out and helped with development that we have now
Th3Bill - Everything you have done for us
AdriVelazquez - Everything. Literally everything. I will gladly test anything you make (Even if I do end up in a bootloop and get yelled at by my GF cause my phone doesn't work. Haha.)
Thank you to everyone! This place wouldn't be anything without every single one of us!
I am sure I am forgetting some but this adds to the original list.
Great idea!
I want to thank my mom for the update. I want to thank Synergy, Interloper, Shelnutt2, Autoprime, and Xboxfanj for trying very hard and not giving up. I want to thank everyone on irc for running a customer service support line the last week. I want to thank all the guys that were written on the initial post for their unwavering dedication.
Damn, what a perfect way to use my 1500 post!
