[HOW-TO] Enable OTG(USB HOST) on Galaxy SII - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

So after painstakingly searching around for an answer on how to get OTG working on the galaxy s2 running a custom ROM and Kernal with little to no help i finally figured it out:
You will need:
OTG Cable ( Micro USB Host cable) (store bough or home made work, i followed this link: http://highonandroid.com/android-howtos/how-to-make-otg-usb-host-cable-for-galaxy-s2-or-xoom/ )
A Kernel that supports OTG ( I'm using { and could only find } http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/05/06/siyahkernel-v3-2rc1/ , there is an update to this kernal , but i have not tested the OTG support yet (May/7)
And last but not least, USB Host Controller APP : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hu.sztupy.android.usbhostcontroller&hl=en
Procedures :
1. Install the kernel by flashing it through CWM
2.Install USB Host Controller App
3. Restart phone
4. plug in usb device into OTG cable
5. Plug in OTG Cable to phone
6. TADAA
if you have any questions feel free to PM me or post a reply...
i had to change the steps from the link to make the OTG cable to make it work!!!
Homemade Cable Troubleshoot:
my cable was a samsung USB U2 cable, i dont know if this makes the biggest difference. but you want to short ( connect) pins 4 and 5.. one of the 2 solder points is the black wire from the usb cable ( ground) and if yours doesnt work with the pin he says to use, you can try plugging in a usb device into the cable and have the wire connected to the ground and simply probe the other pins until you find the pin that works! ( DO NOT CONNECT BLACK AND RED I REPEAT DO NOT SHORT BLACK AND RED, YOU WILL FRY YOU PHONE AND I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS, THIS IS YOUR WARNING!!!)

This kernel can work with Galaxy s2 duos tv gt-s7273T ?
I,m trying enable the OTG to my s2 gt-s7273T
This is possible? Using Jelly Bean 4.2.2 stock rooted
With busybox installed .
Please if possible help me

WOW! I have a faulty micro sd card so I could only backup to internal storage. Saw your post which reminded me I have an OTG cable that I use for my Note 4, I'm using CM11 and "hey presto!" CM11 recognizes external USB, no apps needed, I could/can make backups, Love my CM11
Glad I saw your post, Many Thanks, and Kind Regards!!

Xperia ARC S USB OTG possibilities

ARC S (LT18i) comes with USB OTG support but when I plug an USB memory stick it recognizes it but says it's not supported.
From what I read it only works with LiveDock which is, by my opinion, not good at all, not even a real dock since you have to plug a cable in phone.
so is there a simple possibility to make USB work without LiveDock?
by simple I meen without flashing a new kernel
Thank you
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
In short, you need:
Q5 Memory Manager: http://android.gval.biz/download/Q5_USB_Memory_Manager.apk
Module Loader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228605
usb-storage module: http://doomlord.sylvester20007.com/xperia_2011/usb_otg/v01/usb-storage.ko
You can then connect and mount USB flash drives (formatted FAT32) with a suitable USB-OTG cable.
Hi
a cheap wireless keyboard/mouse bundle works perfect with a cheap otg cable.
usb hub too.
Managed to use usb key with XTCrefugee explanations.
But, could we charge the battery, at the same time using usb devices?
arc S
otg with unsupported USB
Getting the same error message, I have Astro file manage.
Unsure how to mount USB drive.
Get this app, it does the job nicey http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389653
PM me if you would like a copy...to test out
Thanks for responding, but I see the linked app requires rooting etc. There appears q5 but that's not on plaststore. Would upgrading to ICS be solution or a problem. What would you suggest?
When I had ICS installed still need to use some app to mount USB stick ... I have to say that Nokia N8 and other new Symbian devices have better support fot USB OTG ...

[Q] Anyway to flash PJ46IMG.zip with no cable?

hello folks,
after months of searching i finally downloaded my stock rom, but unfortunately it was a PJ46IMG.zip file, not an RUU, so i kept searching for a solution to flash it, but all of them were by using a USB Y cable or an OTG cable, so is there any solution to flash it without a cable?
and please guys am so tired from lots of searching, i spent days with no sleep to understand your terms like, please guys give it a brief description if there were any solution for this.
Download your RUU http://www.htcruu.com/

Otg or y cable is needed if you cannot connect your phone via USB cable. If you can, first upgrade to latest cwm 5.8.4.0 first, if not already done so. Then boot to recovery, under mounts and storage, mount your usbcard. You should now see your card from the pc. Copy your PJ146IMG.zip file to the root of the sdcard. Reboot your bootloader. It should see the file and install.
If you can find your ruu, you can also use that. But, you will need to go back to stock recovery to use it.

thanks mates for your support, but sure i've done this lets say 67 times till the moment, my USB storage is mounted via CMW 5.8.4.0 and the PJ46IMG.zip is there on the root of the USB storage, rebooting to bootloader but it doesn't see a thing, it doesn't even check when the cable is unplugged, and when the cable is plugged between the PC and my HOX it checks but without seeing the PJ46IMG.zip rom
this is the only rom i found that has my correct CID: 621, Image Version: 1.29.709.12, HBOOT 0.95 in about 4 months of searching.
also thanks iamaniff but there is no server has my rom, it seems they created this rom for my device only , and finding its PJ46IMG.zip is a treasure for me
thanks guys, but it seems it ends here, i might order the USB Y cable from amazon and wait several months to be delivered here in Egypt, see u guys in a year when there is any possibility bring my HOX back to stock

A Y cable is easy to make. In simple terms, cut off the USB plug (PC socket end leaving 3" or more cable on it) from your phones USB cable. Get a USB extension cable & cut off the female end and strip and join the female plug's cable to your phones USB cable matching the wire colours.
Insulate the green and white wires with electrical tape.
Get the USB (PC end) plug you cut off earlier and and strip the red and black wires. Cut off the green and white wires. Attach the red and black wires to the ones still exposed on the cable you just made and then insulate them too.
Plug mini USB into phone, USB (PC end) into.....P.C! Then shove a card reader / memory stick into the female USB port that contains your IMG.zip.

A question regarding USB OTG

Hello.
I bought this OTG cable and it arrived today. My D855 is on stock 5.0 and usb debugging is turned on. I tried inserting a USB 3.0 pendrive, but it doesn't get recognized in the stock file manager. Am I doing something wrong or what? Do I need to download ES File Explorer? If possible, I'd prefer not rooting or placing custom ROMs on the phone as it's my dad's.
Yes it should work just out of the box, anyway, here are some steps that can do for you case,
1. That Otg Adaptor is for USB 2.0, it should normally work even for USB 3.0. (USB 2.0 has a 4 pin connector, where USB 3.0 has a 5 pin connector.)
Usually USB 3.0 devices are retrocompatible with 2.0, as you can see in the pins there are 4 pins at the beggining and 5 pins through the end.
So my advice is this, try another 2.0 just to be sure.
2. Usb debugging is not necessary, actually it can cause problems, better disable it
3. Use a file manager, Es file explorer used to be great, today not that great but still does it job

usb otg mouse with a broken display

My display broke, i cannot put my pin to open the device. I researched that i could control my phone using a otg cable and a mouse.
my question is that will an otg with a mouse work here in this screen. This is not the lockscreen where we put a pattern or a pin, this is the screen which comes before the phone completely turns on.
The screen reads " To start android, enter your PIN"
i know my pin, it would be so helpful to me if somebody tries to restart their phone and use a usb otg cable to connect a mouse and tell me if it works.
i have a normal otg cable and a usb type c to micro usb adapter and this is not working. i am asuming the adapter maybe the problem.
Not really on topic, but anyways: if adapter works for file transfer with normal micro USB cable, then it's not the culprit here. The problem is the OTG cable. For some reason OP3 doesn't work with many OTG cables; you'll need another one. Preferably some that is confirmed to work.

problem solved
bought another usb C otg cable and used a normal usb mouse with it, i could open the pin.
So if someones display breaks or touch stops working, u can use a usb C otg and a mouse to open up ur phones pin code and unlock it to copy your pics/videos.
hey ayman2710, could you tell me which usb c otg cable exactly worked?

Ehh , this is OOS .
I checked it with LOS 15.1 and otg works without any extra settings .
Do you have unlock bootloader . You can install twrp and otg should work in twrp .
Btw if you have turn on usb debugging you can copy your data from phone to pc by ADB shell commands .
