*Unbranded* UK One X owners, 1.29 update via download, explained for noobs - HTC One X

Info taken from the 1.29 update thread. I am posting this seperately to avoid repetitious requests. Big thanks to EddyOS for this
This will wipe your phone of all apps & updates, however, saved data will remain i.e. save games
Download the latest HTC Sync
Download the Europe 1.29 RUU update http://cxsr.eu/pubftp/onex/RUU_END...adio_1.1204.104.14_release_259281_signed.exe
Charge the phone to 100%
Turn phone off (make sure fast boot is off in Settings>Power)
Turn on holding volume down
Press power to get to FASTBOOT
Connect to PC
Make sure Windows installs the right drivers (they come as part of HTC Sync)
Once Windows has installed the drivers, start the RUU
Follow the instructions

Before you try above may want to give this ago.
- Like your making a call *#*#2432546#*#*
- Once completed
- settings
- about
- software update

checkin is always running anyway. This is just a placebo that HTC customer service give people to get them to disconnect.
As for the RUU update, you forgot to add the disclaimer that it wipes the phone.

That's me updated, took about 10 minutes

Will this wipe the handset as part of the update?
edit, re-read your post

Can I use this to flash an unbramded rom onto a branded Optus Australia rom?

Couple of noob questions. As I am noob at stuff like this. Do I need to be rooted? And will the rest of the instructions be in that download link or what? Thanks in advance

You run the RUU and once it's finished you can delete it - entirely up to you (but I'd keep it safe in case you need it)
If you're on x.xx.206.x then you can't use this anyway as you have a branded o2 handset - this is ONLY for unbranded users currently running x.xx.401.x

I followed what you said. but now it wont let me download from google play it just keeps saying error! help!

Reboot the phone, should work fine

noob question: doesn't an RUU update void the device warranty?

RUUs are leaked and shouldn't normally be open to the public. If they were they'd be on HTCs website (like with their WinMo RUUs)
Guess you cant always trust a telus rep, they told me that the update would be downbloadable from a pc if i didnt have internet access for my desire. (ive been prodding tech support for 2 weeks now trying to get info on when the update is)
I don't see the point in posting the ROM. What would be needed in it that we don't already have or use? Plus if I wanted to do the update that would mean downgrading back to 2.1 and then upgrading.

He said he is interested in some config files, no idea what for. Can you even post just a rom from your phone? Wouldn't you need to extract it from the RUU?
The RUU would be nice though, I'd like to know what radio Telus think we should be running. Obviously it would also be good to flash the phone in a way that masks the modifications made if we need to return it.

I am on Fido and I got an update notification on my HTC Desire (I had 3G on, and Wifi off). I'm downloading the update (OTA_Bravo_Froyo_TELUS_WWE_2.25.661.2-1.29.661.1_R_release_Pf7sjzjrgcmpsve12.zip) as I'm typing this...it's a 90.5MB download...so I switched to Wifi before proceeding with download.
I'll update later how it goes.

Hanging at Zerging root line..

Your situation is not that clear to me.........be more specific as much as you can giving out details that would also help the reader of your issue.
For the meantime go to this link and make sure you followed all instructions carefully then you can go back in this thread for further clarifications if your issue still persists.
Sorry , wrote the OP from my phone..
Anyways the situation is : When I try to root the phone with revolutenary , once it gets to Zerging root after some time it says Root failed or something with a sad smiley.. What could be the cause for this? The phone also has a official update through built-in update feature but as soon as it's done downloading it it says that the downloaded file ( AKA update ) is corrupted/damaged and asks me if I want to redownload and it won't help either.
Hope I was clear enough.
Is it a desire or desire S?
Root and s-off 2 different things. Zerging (which I have never heard of) is nothing to do with root or s-off on the desire.

[Q] How do I Restore Stock Firmware?

Hi I apologise for asking this, I know the answer will be out there somewhere, but I want to restore my phone to how it was when I first bought it.
I'm on a UK o2 locked phone and I've rooted it and removed some of the stock apps. Is it possible to download and restore the original rom since the boot loader is locked and if so how?
Thanks

I haven't flashed anything else, just rooted and removed some of the stock apps. So basically I want to do a factory reset but get everything I removed back.
Flashtool allows you to flash signed roms (i.e. sony official updates only) to a locked bootloader.
Otherwise, what Logseman doesn't touch on is a website called www.wotanserver.com
You sign up for a free account, download the client software and the usb drivers, boot your phone into repair mode (hold down the back button when plugging in the usb cable) and it allows you to flash any stock firmware.

[Q] How To Recover an OTA Update on HTC One X?

Hello,
I have received an HTC One X and I had an OTA update yesterday (France) but some of my friends not. So I want to know how can I cover this update and share it?
Thanks for your help.

thanks i am looking for
Nothing in download file
It seems to be a Nvidia update, so maybe customer who have bought the phone soon already have this one :/
you should post it on the dev section of the htc one x. you would probably have quicker answer over there
okay thanks.
How can I change the place? I need ask a moderator?
Download a file explorer.
Most of the times the update.zip is in the root of de storage and not in the download map.
But if you already have installed the OTA, the OTA.zip is probably deleted
So please check root directory of storage and report.
So you got the 1.27 OTA or the 1.28 OTA?

Next time when you get a notification. download the file, save it to computer and then run update please!
yup. You can get the address for the update and download it direct to your PC.
When the update appears, connect to the PC and run the following command
Code:
adb logcat > log.txt
then tap the update button.
Once the update has started downloading, you can kill the logcat with a ctrl+c.
check the logcat for a webaddress (just search for http://) and you'll have the download link.
you can then either post the link, or the file itself.
As he said, he won't share it
OTA update booting to fastboot
Hello,
I'm a bit of a novice.
I rooted my phone, then re-locked it.
I'm on Orange UK, firmware 1.28.061.9
I have been getting notifications of the new 1.29 update, but when I download it OTA, the phone reboots to the HTC white screen (see attachment).
I tried all options on the white screen, but I can't install the update.
What can i do?
Thank you

Because s-off will wipe your data partition it's a good idea to go ahead and root, s-off, then run the RUU or fastboot flash the zip for the entire build 1.80.401.1 (not just the update). When s-off wipes the data partition you'll have to reinstall everything and the RUU will reset any flags or other issues.
Also, although highly unlikely ATM it's best to s-off now before HTC possibly patches any bootloader exploits used to s-off within an update.
