[Q] Is HTC One V -The ""WORST"" Phone in the World? - HTC One V

OK... It's been so many days and I'm thinking to buy HTC One V. One day, I read a nice review and the other day, a bad one. I'M going MAD Now.
HEATING PROBLEM
Is HTC One V on fire when talk on the phone? My sister has Sony Xperia Mini ST15i. This phone also gets a little bit heated up when we use internet for a long time or talk on it for a long time. IS HTC ONE V's PROBLEM EXTRA ORDINARY HEATING???
YELLOW SPOTS
Does EVERY HTC One V has yellow spots on the screen? If one has, would it get replaced???
BROWSER PROBLEM
I know HTC One V's browser isn't so good... BUT Can't we download ANY OTHER BROWSER AND USE IT? Will that be also like the Stock Browser?
PLEASE GUIDE ME IF I SHOULD BUY HTC ONE V. I mostly want a phone for internet, apps and games... But Not JUST for internet, apps and games!

I have this phone more than a week and I have no problem with yellow spots, but this may appear in the future.
I played on the phone for two hours playstation 1 games and I not registered overheating, even though the phone was a bit warmer.
I am using Dolphin HD and internet browsing is very smooth.
Htc One V for me is the best phone I've ever had. User interface is much faster than the HTC Evo 3D and gaming performance is little bit better than the LG optimus 2X.
It's just my feeling, others may say something completely different.

I am quite pleased with my One V and have no desire to return or exchange it. It's a great device. But the haters are going to hate and you can't stop them. Your thread title only eggs them on, unfortunately.
The fire issue?

Yellow spots? It's an adhesive issue that I think we're past now. Haven't heard of any new complaints. And contrary to what Honzac says below, if it doesn't have them, it won't get them.
Bottom line: A great entry-level device running Ice Cream Sandwich!

Will HTC One V get upgraded to Android 5.0 Jelly Bean ?
What do you think?

Since Jelly Bean hasn't even been announced and ICS is still in its infancy, I don't think there is any answer to that question.

Will SIM Card and MicroSD Card work if we loose our mobile's back cover?
Some say that after loosing their mobile's back cover, the network is lost forever!! The back cover pushes the SIM Card and MicroSD Card inside at the right place. IS THAT SO?

No. They are primarily held in by friction, but the cover insures that they aren't lost if the phone is jolted or dropped.
The back cover consists of at least three components manufactured in a two-shot molding process:
1. A molded plastic (polycarbonate) frame
2. Antennas and leads for at least WIFI and something else, but I doubt a circuit related to the SIM and SD cards as Saket suggests since their receptacles are soldered directly to the mainboard.
3. An over-molded rubber outer.
The antennas and leads are concealed between the layer of plastic and rubber.
Brilliant stuff. I used to work for a global plastics company and I'm impressed by this little part. Don't loose it because your phone needs it. Without it you'll have to WIFI.
Just buy the phone already. It's a great device!

Don't know about heating problems but I doubt it will heat like Iphone 4S does when it is charging and you play a game on it.
The yellow spots: This is interesting stuff since this issues were signaled only BY users from INDIA(?). I guess it is India! Look at these threads where the Yellow spots are signaled and you'll see that almost all the complaints came from people from India. They maybe got some lot made bad. But don't worry, those yellow spots will disappear if you play with the phone and set the brightness to maximum (basically those spots are the glue, so they will warn out in time).
Browser: Almost every smartphone has stock browsing problems because those browsers are NOT very optimized. Installing Chrome or Opera on HTC One V and it will be smooth as browsing on the computer.

[/I]BOTTOM LINE : It's a great phone. Isn't it?

The first I ever learnt about the yellow spots was in the review of the phone by Engadget.
engadget.com/2012/04/13/htc-one-v-review
Only then did I see a lot of instances of yellow spots popping up across the globe! It's not just India!

Not for $220.
I just got another TMO Wing off ebay for $72 + $6 ship since I smashed my screen in a truck door about a year ago. It was in decent shape but really only got it to use it for parts. Changed my screen and replaced buttons and flashed numb3rs LZX v1.0.nbh, (believe I got from The Wingster), Kick ass ROM by the way 6.5, nice touch, very good memory, pretty fast, and has Java. I'd consider ebay and re-flashing.
Now, I love my HTC's_G1, Dash and Wing, but if you want a good, inexpensive and flash-able phone, in my opinion, the Sony Ericsson TM506 is a nice phone, once you find a ROM you like for it. $130 from TMO and relatively easy to flash. And you can find tons of apps/games for it. The BEST "cheap" phone I've ever owned. Love it. By the way-Also has 3G and bluetooth. Only drawback is no wifi..
Just my opinion....
Why not just get something more modern and cheap, like the G1? I tried using my Dash the other day and it is the slowest thing ever compared to my current phone, I couldn't stand it.
Operative word was cheap. A G1, even now isn't all that cheap. Unless your going to jailbreak it, wouldnlt waste your time. You'll only get up to 1.6.
Why don't you flash your Dash with 3VO 6.5 or Kavana's 6.1. Both are very good and almost like a new phone.
Your not going to get any of the newer stuff "cheap". Get ready to drop hundreds unless your buying subsidized with a new contract.

Well, I basing the word cheap on OP's situation. He was willing to spend $220 for a Dash. Cheaper would have been a better word to describe it.

tmo wing aint cheap with $150 and 200mhz cpu, well neither the chinese with 220 but comparative with another with similar specs yeah it is, also g1 is an ugly model and i prefer windows mobile than android.

$150 isn't too expensive. You can overclock it, so I hear, but when I tried, nothing but problems. Screen would go crazy, no matter what setting I tried. After install of numb3rs LZX ROM runs pretty fast anyway.
Agree with you on G1 looks, but up in the air on which OS I'd prefer. Cut my teeth on Windows. Android is very slick OS but it's getting old and boring, at least on the G1. And the apps coming out aren't what they used to be. For either OS. The Android clock apps from Germany are OK, but they must be nuts, $15-20 for a clock application is crazy. Like to know if they're actually selling.
Once Wing was flashed, I've been playing with for weeks. Had tons of old cabs/zips on the computer.
Really think if you flashed the Dash you'd be surprised. I know I was. It's not like your gonna throw the phone out, and it's no cost other than some time.

By the way, I'd sell my Dash for $220 right now.
Like the touch screens better. Not that i dislike the Dash.
Cheap alterantive?
Defo not what your looking @ yeah high specs but the parts are cheap "probably not what stated regards cpu" and can only imagine build quality along with that there most probably will not be custom ROMs available, for $200's you could be looking into TouchPro or a bit cheaper a Kaiser, PPC opens up the world regards pimping and programs since such a larger ammount available.
On that other hand could just buy another Excalibur

PROS:
Dual SIM
Faster CPU than Excalibur
Standard 3.5mm jack (big plus)
Touchscreen AND keyboard
already carrier / app unlocked
CONS:
I've purchased some of these chinese clone-phones and the quality was poor. I have not purchased one from this particular manufacturer however.
I purchased my HTC Excalibur brand new roughly 90 days ago for $120 USD at a local retailer. It came preloaded with Tmobile branded WM6 but box is HTC and phone is solid black as opposed to Tmobile's which has the silver facade. Another retailer in the same area wanted $130 but he had a used one for $75. It looked pretty beat up though and I wanted a new one. As far as I'm concerned for $120 it was money well spent considering the plethora of apps available for it, WIFI and customization. Someday I will flash it, maybe after I buy another phone. I have flashed a few phones in the past but they were spare phones so I didn't care if they were bricked or didn't work 100%.
i found out another seller with best price $175 included shipping
http://www.ipmart.com/
i know, it has a risk to buy chinese products, but i ll try it one
also another phone choice:

A9630 Clone
This smart mobile phone affords external GPS and G Sensor. More still, it supports Windows OS 6.1 (CPU: GSM 7225 528 MHZ, 512M ROM, 256M RAM). It is also available for commerce use, as it supports Word, Excel, PPT, PDF file and so on. Equipped with a Scrolled Navigation ball, 2.46 - inch touch screen and 1.3 MP camera with flashlight, it supports WiFi, Java, WinCE, MP3 / MP4 player and FM radio.
$200 inc. shipping but the scroll ball doesnt fit for me neither the gui like a blackberry over windows original, (but +GPS i should be think the choice a bit )
Which chinese phone you choose?
Hi, I've been looking your thread....are you willing to put you money in these phones .
Look, these phones are very popular in Honduras US$150 total cost directly imported from China. Let me tell you that some friends have bought them and they just last a couple of months..they have fancy first look, but after 1 or 2 months of usage...they start to have problems (screen, keyboard etc).
I bought my excalibur 3 years ago and this baby still rocks...has survived drops and even some water.Think where you put those golden eggs my friend...like a spanish sayin " lo barato sale caro" (cheapest becomes the more expensive)
Just my 2 cents to your thread
I got mine for £40 from a great ebay webshop named 'Turn On Your Mobile'
It has a load of WM phones that are hard to find on it, but it is a bit of a monopoly weather you find the one that you want..
i bought it
i got the chinese clon, it is really a good model heh, but it doesnt has the camera program like a dash, it is very simple, is there any way extract camera program and copy to my phone?

Cracking Open the HTC One X ?

Does anyone one know if anyone has done one of those "cracking open" vids for the HOX yet ? I would be interested to see how it's set up inside. I'd also like to know if the 32GB internal memory is actually a micro-SD card that could be swapped for a 64GB at some point

I would be shocked if the internal memory was a MicroSD and not soldered to the board. It kind of defeats the purpose to make it non-removable and NOT give us the performance of a dedicated connection.

From a diagnostics, servicing & repair point of view it would be much cheaper and easier if it was an SD card.
Not sure about manufacturing. Probably about even.
Just wondering if the only way to open up the One X is to remove the LCD screen? If yes then what's the point of knowing if it's a 32mb SD card? Is the average joe able to open it up anyway?

B) This is not about the average Joe. The average Joe does not crack open his phone, or root it, or install custom ROMs, or visit xda-developers.com. The average Joe has an iPhone.

Is there a doctor among us?
Put a HOX under X-ray (Turn it OFF first) and post a pic here.
We'll find out, if there is a memory card or something. Also, may be we'll see how to disassemble a HOX.
I think the HOX may be easier to disassemble that you might think.
I bought a gel skin case for mine which I take off fairly often because the HOX is so damn beautiful and nice to hold that it seems a crime to ruin it with a case.
Anyway, the case it quite a snug fit and I noticed when removing it that if I put my thumb on top of the polycarbonate just under the buttons at the bottom of the screen and firmly but gently flex it back I can snap the polycarbonate away from the screen by just a few millimetres. I can clearly see three little snaptabs sticking off the bottom of the screen that hold the polycarbonate in place. It snaps right back into place immediately.
I am too scared to try this right now but I think with further gentle pressure the whole outer casing would be levered away and you could lift all the innards out of the polycarbonate unibody.
There is clearly no "tool" access to the device so I assume that this is how it is assembled and disassembled.
BTW, here is a short video of the "opening" I mentioned above :

Yeah, y'know, I think I'll leave that to someone else.
Maybe someone who's already bricked theirs or got a DOA.
Mine's too new and shiny
So maybe this brings hope, that this is not a throw away phone or a send back to HTC service centre senario. Hopefully the battery could be user replacable in a few years time, once third party batteries become available.
gives me hope too...
even if it's a Li-Po, probably third parties will make a bigger battery for it, if it's possible.. >=)

How much force did you use to get the results shown in the vid? I really want to open that One X..

HTC one x fake/original Check!!

Skip to test below if ur not in china or not interested in getting preview.(fake HOX pictures are the last 4 added to attachments)
Hey guys I did some investigations that because the HOX is Taiwan based then Chinese mainlanders who say Taiwan is China started selling fake HOX online.HTC IMEI's have been cracked so dont believe in checking the imei and staying there.Thats just horrible.U see the pictures, the price, the specs and everything seen looks "wow this is the real deal". The same retail price just a little bit cheaper maybe but same things said and the wrong device delivered.I got one for a friend from my beloved taobao.com which is a site I never go wrong. Then they have this ridiculous slant that "its from hongkong...that's what hongkong people use"(guess they all use the fake one x with 858x480 res, dual core processor and as thick as a loaf of bread):laugh:.Some even have the original one x external casing. Just rubbish!!Side not anyone in mainland china then planning to buy this device ask the seller if he has the European version or else don't buy.Cuz they'll send u ****!!Even though the price is close to retail and specs show yes don't be tempted.Don't buy from Guandong.Get it in the link below
TEST
If u get ur one x first checks for originality:
-check sense 4 and htc's signature features like:
1.Signature sense feature;check the camera app which should be like this
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2.Check multitasking ui it should look like this.(check if u can swipe up to close)
3.Check htc sense 4 paperlike end of scroll effect by going to settings and trying to scroll down at the top of the menu(put ur finger on screen in settings and move it down where u see bluetooth) and u should see this
look in attachment(venom tweaks from custom rom)
4.From the above u can see on is green and off white. Not blue or non-square switches. And the first setting is not wifi.U'll have to check settings as above.
5.Check if it has a transparent status bar(not black but transparent). If ur on a black background change it to a colourful one and check.
6.The launcher at the home screen(rosie) should rotate not slide as transition effect.
7.Check for htc homebrew apps on the device like htc hub,watch,car....
8.turn on 3g,E or wifi and go to whatismyscreenresolution.com.Check that HD dude.(720x1280)
9.Check with htcsync software too.
It can have 1 sim, nonrem. battery but still fake. This guarantees u a starting point and i bet u no fake one x has all of these cuz as much as u try to copy hardware u cant copy software.Sense 4 is the big test for the nvidia quadcore.
Update: My folks in China save urself embarrassment and get this one.Use Google translate or chrome and choose asian-pacific with official package from here.(Got mine here.Trust the seller!)
Peace folks and thank if I helped.
It'll be from Shenzhen, which is just over the border, not Hong Kong.
I bought mine from HTC in Hong Kong, it has x.xx.708.x firmware.
The fake one mentioned on here has a completely different hboot.
A lot of phones (like iPhone 5) which are real, are bought in Hong Kong and sold abroad for profit (if they are in short supply, they mark them up), but the fake ones will be from Shenzhen.

I actually brought a cheap HOX on taobao, and it was a fake MT6577 or something processor...it wasnt slow and it looked almost the same as the original.
It had antutu benchmark with a "locked" score of 10225, so no matter how many times you run the test it will be 10225.
And worst of all, the seller wouldnt return the money...after a 10 day long process, I eventually got the Taobao reps to ge tmy money back (its kinda like paypal, once you click "received" your money is gone, lucky I didnt.)
Anyways, too many fakes in China these days, if you guys ever come here, only buy stuff with help from a local (sometimes even that aint enough though )

Love these fakes though, China has millions of them..

i'd return it if you can. Looks like its excess light coming from a reflection of the lcd. It looks like my old bionic did when I didn't have enough glue between the class and the case which sets it to the screen. Maybe that could be the issue?

Hi mate. Sorry for asking you this question as this thread was started way long back. Is your device normal after the repair, or it behaves the same ? Did the service center people put scratches on the display ? Body ? Lemme know. Thanks in advance :good:

I did went to the service centre, they didnt do anything when i first went there.
They said that there's no replacement parts or another set for me to do an exchange.
So they said that they will do a one for one exchange for me when they have a set.
But the customer service is crap and im not using htc anymore though.
I have the exact same thing on my Verizon m8. I decided not to risk returning it for a potential refurbished phone and decided to live with it. Unfortunately it makes my screen look like crap when dark colors are on the screen because there is like a massive crease on the sides of my screen. If I tap in a certain area on my phone I get a similar effect to applying pressure on a TV monitor.

Hey there, Hi. So, you're locked onto not returning the device for a new one, right ? Do they give you refurbished handsets when you return them in the US ? Or may be you get a refurbished one sometimes ?

It's luck of the draw really. Most times you'll vet a refurbished model and I wasn't willing to risk it with one of those. The screen problem is only really minor, I can live with it

Very similar yes, except on the right side of the screen not top/bottom. There are not as many white lines either, its only a couple prominent ones. And no, I did not send it for repair I decided to keep my phone. Didn't feel like going through all the trouble although I regret it at this point.

But ultimately [ONLY] HTC devices last for a long time compared to others OEM's. My wildfire is up and running except for the outdated software. The battery I guess holds only (70-80) % of the charge. Lol, my GPU is faster than its CPU ! Its on its way to 4th Anniversary ! :good:

Yes, I have the same issue. I have like 3 big and 2 small lights leaking from the right side of the display. The big ones are like 1/2 cm long. Can you upload a snap with 100% brightness and power saver turned off on a black background/image ? I don't have any cameras right now to take snaps and upload them. I'll do it in 2 days. Can you please do it ? Thanks in advance :good:

Is this one plus for real?!

Hey guys,
I'm about to buy a one plus 3 from a guy which is selling it extremely cheap and I would like to ask you guys, in what ways I could check if the device is real and not just a replica and also if It's not stolen. I will meet with the guy today so I would appreciate everything you tell me test on the device before making the purchase. I already asked him for the picture of the invoice.. now I'm waiting for his reply.

when you meet, ask to plug it in to a outlet, if it dashcharges, its real.
or
open bootloader by turning off phone and press volume up+power, it should be named someting ms8996 or something like that.

I saw you comment and first off I'd like to say its already a chinese branded phone and very modest company, not your usual suspects for making "Phoney." (pun intended) Also I do not own the phone yet, but since you're cautious I'll still help you out.
When I buy phones from untrusted/unknown parties I always meet them in very open public places and look them in the eye when they're talking, looking for signs of anxiety or hesitation.
Now onto the phone itself:
pop the sim tray out make sure there are 2 slots (real oneplus 3 has 2 slots). okay
Go to settings> about phone check the imei with this: https://swappa.com/esn (its free and trusted site)
pop one of my sim cards in and make a phone call. go back to settings> about phone and check the baseband, model number, build number etc. and make sure they are correct/up to date.
go to the camera (usually the stock app) and I test photos and videos.
turn on bluetooth and make sure it searches for my headset which i have on at the time.
Open a web browser and see how fast the app opens and open multiple tabs and different websites in each.
For a phone like this I would feel the quality of the build because most knock-offs just don't feel like "real"
and LAST but not LEAST go to settings> security and check the fingerprint sensor, (how fast it esponds, if it responds at all, nothing is for sure but chances are very slim that a knock-off company is putting a high quality fingerprint system in a knock-off phone. I do all of this while talking to him/her about how the yankees are really sucking this year, and telling them my fantasy football team is better than theirs by a long shot.
I sure hope this helps :fingers-crossed:
Check the Android version. If it says Nougat, then it is obviously a fake one.
Thank you! Isn't there an app that can check if the phone is real? Like all the internals and camera module? I heard there's one with the name similar to AIDA..
Also, could anyone post the latest settings page where I can see the latest build/baseband and so on, please?
Thank you all

You could easily get 300 euro for OP3 so for me the real question is (and it should be your question as well) Why would the seller throw away 150 euro? Why would anybody do that? Nobody would unless something is wrong.

Looks real. Exactly like mine did whwn I got it. But what's to say that's what you will receive. Especially at half price.
Buy using a reputed site and pay using a known payment method.
That way if you do get cheated will have some way to get your money back.

If you can get internet... Download the Geekbench 3 from playstore and run a test and you should get around 2250+ singlecore score and 5400+ multicore score (If you can only download geekbench 4 then score is around 1700 for single and 4000 multicore)
