[Q] horrible battery problem on ONE X - HTC One X

I know there are loads of threads about the HTC ONE X battery but I really could not find a proper answer to my question so im starting a new thread. So I have had my 1X since last thursday, just over a week now and the battery life has been utterly horrible. But the worst thing is that the battery life is getting drastically shorter and shorter every day. Now its unbearable I cant even use the phone. I wonder if it might be because I did not do any 'first time battery charge'?. I just booted the phone instantly instead because honestly I did not know that you had to charge the battery before booting the phone the first time. The first time I started the phone it had just over 40% of battery and I used it until the phone shut off and charged it 100% after that while it was updating to the newest software. Is this perhaps the reason why the battery life is so god damn horrible and even worse than other 1X's?. When I charge the phone 100% it drains 1% of battery or more every minute now just when browsing the menu or the web or just doing nothing but putting the screen on. The screen brightness setting is on automatic and I have tried all kinds of battery savers and now im using juice defender ultimate still the battery life is horrible. I kill and close apps all the time and have nothing running in the background when not using it and I always turn off wifi when not using and I turn off auto sync and all the other battery eating tasks and stuff. Still I cant use the phone. When its 100% charged at about 8:00 in the morning the battery is done for at around 10:30 with moderate use. I cant get more than about 3 hours of on screen time before the battery is finished so basically what should I do? Is this normal?

Agreed, sounds like a faulty battery.

3 hours of on screen time isn't high but it's not abnormal either.

And if you'd have read the other threads that you said don't apply to you you'd realize that because your phone is still new battery life will improve with more charging cycles. If you expect more than 3 hours on the low-end or five on the absolute high-end of screen on time the One X isn't for you. Because of the non-replaceable battery (which shouldn't be a surprise) a lot of us have auxiliary battery chargers for getting through the day when the phone can't be topped up on AC power. Speaking for myself, the design of the phone is what attracted me to it and the non-replaceable battery is a trade-off I accepted. That might not be a trade-off everyone’s willing to accept and the One X isn't going to win any battery life awards.

Autobrightness seemed to cause my battery to drain. Turned it off and its much better (or seems that way for now)

Charging your battery when you first get it does absolutely nothing. Wiping battery stats and callibrating also do absolutely nothing.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Upload few screens of your battery usage so we can see what is causing such drain. I can tell you already now the screen is the main battery drain. A phone can barely survive 4 hours of heavy usage, especially not on automatic brightness.

Yeah ill do that, how do I take a screen shot? Powerbutton + homebutton thing doesn't seem to work for me :S. Today for example iv'e charged the phone 3 times and after the 2nd charge I used to phone for 5 hours and 25m until only a few % of the battery was left. I had juice defender ultimate up and running most of the time and screen time was at around a bit over 2 and a half hours. All I did was some web browsing and mostly menu browsing and setting browsing on the phone and some xda developer browsing with the app. No gaming whatsoever. Really horrible battery... such a pity considering how much I love the phone otherwise. Its no problem when im at home connecting it to the computer with the usb cable all the time but when im actually using the phone outdoors its frustrating as sh*t.

It doesn't really matter what you are doing, you will only get around three hours of screen on time.

Have you tried easy battery saver, started using it on my HOX over 30HRS ago browsing, video calls and still have 33% life left. If it doesn't work I suggest you return for a replacement. Could be factory defect.

Yeah, that was the first one I used, it didn't really help but juicedefender on the other hand helps me squeeze out a bit more battery life

Sounds like a lemon, have it replaced asap. HOX is the only android device I had that gets me through the day w/o charging doing basic stuffs (data always on etc) like what normal people do. I've had sleepless nights last month because my 2-week old GN got pick pocketed battery life for GN in my case was horrible (5 hours).

how do you know if your battery is defective? i'm getting around the same battery life myself :/

This is why unreplaceble batteries suck. I wish I'd bought the s3 instead still though I love the HOX only if the battery was a bit better ffs. Im getting a little bit better battery today but with loads of tweaks, still some 'untweaked' hoxes get better battery lives, still though it seems like there are loads of one x's that have the same issue as I do. Does this mean all one x are different or what?

Excessive Battery Drain

My Desire Z has been a battery killer recently. I have tried different radios and roms and it still sucks excessive power. Even on Airplane mode battery monitor widget was giving ~50mah per hour drain with the screen off.
I have both a stock battery and a Mugen 1800ma battery and this seems excessive. I checked and there were no applications keeping the phone awake either. At work with minimal usage my phone easily drains over 30% of the Mugen battery. Signal isn't a problem either because I work 280 metres away from a Bell cell tower and have full signal at work all the time. I'm starting to think that something is wrong with my phone.

I had a similar problem with a stock battery of mine and ended up recalling it with my phone provider and they shipped me a new one. They (T-Mobile) said "not all batteries were created equal" and that sometimes even without water-damage, certain batteries lose their shelf-life much faster than others.
Since you're telling us that both your stock and your after-market are draining at a near equal pace regardless, this might be an indicator that it isn't your battery.
I had to return my original G2 to T-Mobile because of hardware malfunctioning in several areas, namely the audio mechanisms. If you're using a relatively new phone, and/or a refurbished phone, I wouldn't be surprised if you are experiencing similar problems.

I had fast battery drain too, I switched to the ROM in this thread, and battery life is now AMAZING
use SuperWipeG2(+) and Guhl's EFS GPS fix available here before flashing G-lite
Have you tried calibrating? Charging to full, wiping batt stats, discharging/charging back to full uninterrupted? The link below is a great calibration tool.... very convenient. I wipe stats after every ROM flash and keep an eye on CPU/RAM usage with Watchdog lite. Battery life is always good.

how long does the battery last for aprox in standby and with regular use. if it dies faster then 3days on standby or less then a day with regular use there may be an issue im just wanting to know the time span of your battery....
also i had hardware issues with the g2 too. my radio sucked balls, i couldnt even keep signal in a call longer then 3 seconds and my wifi would just cut out for periods of hours at a time... im wondering if the manufacturing is becoming sloppy and they might be lacking quality control. i admit there is a lot to the phone but simple things like battery quality and signal quality should be checked regularly.
with the g2 i frequently hear things like this, battery, screen failures or behind the screen cracks, unresponsive touch screen and black spots, bad radio signals, color leakage and most commonly issues with the keyboard.

Well if battery monitor widget is correct my phone would last 26 hours in airplane mode (36 with my mugen battery) with the screen off (I tested this with almost every user app uninstalled)
Edit:
Considering there was a guy who left his old Hero with CM7 in airplane mode and that it lasted for 30 days before the battery died... I find this quite discouraging

Thats a drastic drop! Id say about normal as well. Did you have a lot of apps that were re downloading from the time you first activated it. After a few days to a week when your done looking at your phone every 5 secs you'll start to see battery improvement haha.
Tonight will be my 3rd time charging it. WIll it get a lot better tomorrow?

It can take 4-5 charge cycles for the battery to really get worked in.
Also, check out the juice defender plus app. Doubled my battery life.

Lithium Ion cells do not get better in any way after a few charges.
In fact the capacity goes down a wee tiny little bit with each and every charge, so your first charge was the "best" one.
Stop playing around with the thing for 5 hours non stop and you will get decent runtime.
Best thing to do with a new device is to charge it up fully as soon as you can. Then run it down until you get the low battery warning. Then charge it back up.
Battery life will likely be pretty poor for the first week or so, then it will normalize.
Deep discharging (to 0%) is about the worst thing you can do to a LiIon battery, because it "hurts" it much more than several shallow discharges.
Also, like I said before, battery capacity won't in any way rise or "normalize" over the first week.
Battery life is poor the first days because you use your shiny new device all the time (i.e. more than later). It's like that for all of us.
My battery life sucked the first few days, It got better though. It really only seems to suck it down if it is hunting for a signal constantly.

You also need to try this manual battery calibration:
http://myhtcdesire.com/tutorials/how-to-improve-your-battery-life-calibration-tutorial
After I did this, saw the battery reading 99% and 98% more often rather than straight to 96% after charged.
Originally, it was suggested by HTC tech support. I did that once every six months or so ... And my battery level is now improved. Screenshots will follow in the next post.
Not bad?
Sync is off btw. And this includes using Maps 2%.
At least with my usage pattern, I am more or less satisfied.
I wish Google fixes the high Android OS Keep awake time!

You need to remember the only thing relating to battery life is not just the battery, it's software as well, hence calibration. After about a week or so your phone gets a "feel" for your battery and gets more battery stats, so it's more accurate with it's readings. That is a proven fact, you need to think about all things.

It is quite easy to gauge a Lithium Ion battery. 4.20 V = full. 3.60 V = empty. Your phone can read the battery precise to 0.001 V. The curve isn't linear, but it's well known what voltage relates to the exact capacity left in the battery.
There's really no room to "feel" anything there, just simple math.

I consistently get 15-18 hours of use out of mine with the extended battery.
But to the OP, if your screen is taking up 60% of your battery, it's always on, your battery is gonna die, it happens. Your battery doesn't get "better" with time. It seems that way because you aren't glued to the device 24/7.
Mine was god awful when I first got it but after a week or so it got much, much better.
I have the GSM version though.

Google need to run classes on how to read the battery consumption pages. 61% screen means that the screen used 61% of the total battery used, not that the screen was on 61% of the time.

One X battery fix?

Okay so I presume all of you one X power users have noticed a the horrible battery performance. I only got my one x yesterday and I'm already frustrated with the fact that i yet again have to carry my charger around with me. Is there a fix? I have root and custom recovery. So if there is a fix for this please someone let me know.m
Since I flashed the Revolution HD I got excellent battery performance. Without doing too much stuff (just calling and texting), battery remains > 50% at the end of the day. I would really recommend that rom.
I've just flashed it, going to see how it goes. But I would've expected HTC to bang a beast of a battery for the beast of a processor and massive screen its gotta run. Oh well, still early days, hopefully we'll see massive software improvements.

Not really, no. Personally I did not unlock device, neither root it, neither installed any fix. And I must say that I'm more happy with battery life than I was with my previous phone SGS2. More then 16 hours here with 4 accounts synchronization on, 3g/wifi on, and sometimes gps + music on (for Endomondo). I'm really happy with my One X.
ARHD Rom, auto-brightness, plain wallpaper, no haptic feedback, no roaming, managing syncing, and a few other tweaks will leave this devices battery life as one of the best.

I try to use as much as I can the first few days, and time it so that you have about 10-30% charge left when you reach home from work/school and then I let it charge overnight.
I know quite a lot of time was spent idle, but 60% after 7 and a half hours isn't too bad http://twitter.com/Dev_Meltus/status/194082996767309825/photo/1/large

Have been seriously contemplating getting the One X.
My first choice had been the Galaxy S3..... but the One X seems the better choice.... I have had the iPhone 4 for almost 2 years, so now it's almost upgrade time If the Galaxy S3 had no physical home button I would be taking it.
Had been worried about the battery life of the one x but after reading these and a few others it seems worth it and it's available in black (dark grey but darker than S3 metallic blue)
I Just hope I don't have issues with app incompatibility for the apps I use on iPhone.
With normal usgae, I've got more than 10 hours after one charge. Not so happy with it but it's good enough for me.

I've turned everything off and left my phone on idle, my battery issue has persisted for over 6 months now (I bought it in Singapore on release day). With screen on min brightness, static wallpaper, most apps off, my battery drains fully within 6 hours. If I actually do anything with it like make phonecalls, it drains in hours. The battery phone is constantly hot, when on charge It's almost too hot to hold. If while on charge (AC) I use it to make a call, it complains that it's not receiving enough power. Should I look to get a replacement from HTC? I'm still using stock rom so it should be covered under warranty?
Sounds like the htc amaze battery overheat..
Also get gsam battery app.. it will tell you what apps are using what % of battery.
I also use advanced task manager from play store.. it proved to me how much gmaps Facebook and other bloat was ALWAYS RUNNING!.. I got root and froze it all with big improvements
Some of us who htc amaze w no warranty bought a new battery and that fixed it

Batt bad bad bad

I´ve just moved from th GS2 to the HOX and even though I had read reports about the battery not being so good I was really surprised at how bad it is! I mean with the GS2 I would watch about 1 hours of videos, navigate a little bit, check my calendar several times and talk a couple of times and I would get home at the end of the day with about 80% full batt...I do the same with the HOX and it´s almost half that! Plus it takes forever to charge when compared to the GS2, GS1 and the Atrix. Is it really that bad or is my unit faulty? Is there a mod or an update that can probably address this?
If you used to get all of that use out of 20% of your sgs2 battery, you probably had a really good sgs2 because I could never achieve anything like that.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
So you just got it and reporting a bad battery after a first charge probably? Use it more and report again then...
Well I´ve had several other smartphones that didn´t have this issue after I "just got them".
I think you GS2 is incredible
Cycle the batt
The hox has wayyy better batt life than any samsung
I don't miss the 3% increase an hour it took for any samsung to charge once they are dead forget about getting a fast charge may as well have a spare charged n ready or how about the can not use camera bs!! because the battery is to low... to function the cam
Lol all that crap is history.

I came from the SGS2 which was running VillainRom with an underclocked CPU with under volt. (Auto Brightness)
.... and my stock HOX gives better battery life whilst having a much brighter default auto brightness.
Under my usage, I would never get over 3:xxhrs screen on time, so if you used 100% brightness, you can probably half that.
Also regarding streaming (as I do a lot of it), my ex SGS2 would die after around 6hrs whereas the HOX can do 9+hrs, ive tested these thoroughly.
So, I really don't understand this thread.

Thanks. I didn´t know that. I will work on it.
HOX= HTC One X ??? how long can batt use??
Well even me coming from the SGS2 I can say it had the better battery life with an extended battery. Could easily get 4-6 screen on time on various things. HOX is fine but not as good as SGS2 with extended battery.
Currently in Turkey on roaming and idle time in this is quite excellent the 5th core works fine in idling.

Auto brightness. Pretty much standard stock setup with only a few of the bloatware apps disabled in the apps settings and haptic feedback turned off. All accounts setup to auto sync too! It took a good couple weeks for the battery to last that long but now on moderate use I can get 2 days out of it.

I am getting 48 hours on an average with 3 hour screen On time. I am On 1.28 Stock.

Is it just me, or is the battery on this phone HORRIBLE?!

Hey all,
I just upgraded to the HTC One after my RAZR M pissed me off for the last time. I bought the phone slightly used (about a month old) in perfect shape, and I gotta say, so far, I'm loving this phone! Everything from the screen to the UI to Sense is fantastic!
HOWEVER, the battery life is simply HORRIBLE! Mind you, I do use my phone quite a bit for actual phone calls (I'm a contractor, so I'm on the phone quite a bit), but on an average day, I'm down to 50-60% battery by noon...and my day starts at 9!
Is this normal?
It's just you. I can go 12 hrs and be 70% battery left. That's surfing the web and texts and so on. Download an app that will show you what's keeping your phone awake and not Dee sleep. I forgot the app name but I'm sure others can chime in.

Better battery stats is a good app to see what's eating your battery life. I've had a rogue app drain battery extremely fast.

Also check your screen brightness setting. Try not to have it at 100 percent.

It also really depends on the ROM. The stock ROM battery performance is a bit below average. On ViperOne I had amazing battery, but you will need to wait a few days as the ROM settles in. Tasker may help by disabling things like data and sync when the screen is off, but that kind of battery savings probably shouldn't be necessary just to get through the day.
