[APP] Smarttags for any NFC Enabled Phone - NFC Hacking

I have an Xperia S myself, and with it you get 2 Smarttags. (I bought 4 more)
!You can have a maximum of 4 Smarttags or you will have to use duplicates!
These tags can be scanned using NFC and you can set certain actions to perform.
My 4 tags are setup as follows:
Tag 1: Home
Turn On: Wifi
Turn Off: Bluetooth
Turn Off: GPS
Turn On: Loud Sound
Tag 2: Bedroom
Turn Off: Wifi
Turn Off: Bluetooth
Turn Off: GPS
Turn Off: Sound
Start app: Clock (for alarm)
Tag 3: Work
Turn On: Wifi
Turn Off: Bluetooth
Turn Off: GPS
Turn Off: Sound
Tag 4: Car
Turn Of: Wifi
Turn On: Bluetooth
Turn On: GPS
Turn On: Sound
Start app: CoPilot Live
Now whenever I scan my smarttags with either my One X or my Xperia S they will do the same! it's awesome!
For this however, you will need the Manage Liveware App from the Xperia S
Installation
Method 1:
Download Liveware manager from the Play Store
Method 2:
1). download the attached apk
2). push the file to the phone
Code:
adb push livewaremanager.apk /system/app/
Method 3:
1). download the attached apk
2). Copy the apk to your sdcard from your pc
3). Copy the file into /system/app/ using ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, or some other form. You must have SYSTEM set to Mounted and Root enabled. Check your explorer app's SETTINGS to do this.
Open the new app in your appdrawer (livewaremanager)
- the app will ask to downdload the smarttags app, just accept the download.
- turn on NFC (settings/wireless/NFC)
- Scan your smarttag (you can buy 4 Smarttags for about €15,-)
- ??
- Profit!
! This will only work with the official Sony Smarttags, or a tag with the exact same URL inside it! !
The Smarttag URI's
- taken from Indianl's post
If you happen to have un-used NFC tags laying around in a drawer, here is how to use them with the Xperia Smart Tag app from Sony.
Use an app which is capable of writing custom URIs to NFC tags (NFC Task Launcher is able to do that ) and write the following URIs to your NFC tag:
For the blue tag: semc://liveware/A1/1/NT1/1/smarttags1
For the red tag: semc://liveware/A1/1/NT1/2/smarttags1
For the black tag: semc://liveware/A1/1/NT1/3/smarttags1
For the white tag: semc://liveware/A1/1/NT1/4/smarttags1
!You can have a maximum of 4 Smarttags or you will have to use duplicates!
Have fun guys!

i think you can buy from amazon or e-bay, im going to buy a xperia sola with nfc smart tags pack

Xperia s nfc tag
Sorry guy , you can have 5 tags , not 4
For the favorite tag: semc://liveware/A1/1/NT1/0/smarttags1
No need to try other digit we have try all possibilities
by the way the couple : Liveware/SmartTags app work with all device include those in 4.XXX include the Galaxy note with NFC chipset (not all country have it)
We are working on our own, with more useful function
PS: the tags for the Sony app’s is the Mifare Ultralight (the smallest size) , but since you want better function (like on/off app or setting) you must buy bigger one aka Mifare classic or Fudan

you will paid your tag 5 to 10 times than the market price if you choose the sony one

the sony tags for 4 is like USD 13 officially from hong kong, but i'm going to try out these underground metro NFC tag from china, I think they will work and the tags are about USD 0.34 each, I know that store value cards do work, so i'm sure the tag coins for china underground will work too.

what are nfc smart tags and what are they used for? Sorry for the silly question but i never heard of them and I am kinda new to all this NFC stuff I have a nexus s 4g with a nfc chip built in?

I am using the way you have mentioned, but if I have a tag which enables GPS and also starts GPS application (Sygic), the privacy policy for gps pops up each time I show this tag. Is there a way to bypass or disable this privacy policy pop up.

there should be an option under settings to prevent the policy from displaying

Thanks!
Your links sectin repaired my tag

They are pretty reasonable. If you check out the site I compiled a list of shops that I've tested. Usually $1.15 - 1.50 a piece for Ultralight C or Classic 1K tags.
Question for you guys with the nfc tags what have you done with them I like the idea of swiping my phone over a credit card scanner but what can be created with your own tags

Can't wait to try this. Already ordered the starter pack from tagstand. Looks like an amazing app. Will definitely buy as soon as I get my phone = ]. Thanks for the hard work.
@krohnjw
Can these tags be pre-defined and written into the software?
Was just thinking, you could be onto a winner here.
Set your program to know whats tags are, so say put a tag for a store. When someone scans it with your app, it auto checks them in at whatever app they have installed

The instruction set is encoded on the tag. Any user with the app that scans the tag will see the same actions performed. It makes no calls back to any server or outside service.

It's fairly simple. I designed a basic syntax describing the actions to be taken and wrote a complementary parser for when the tags are read.
That's simply amazing. I knew the NFC would be a nice toy, but not that nice!
Does anyone know where to get some cheap tags in germany. Cheapest I found so far was ebay, but still around 2,50 EUR per tag (incl. shipping).

See the edited first post. Something in 4.0 changed and Mifare Ultralight, Ultralight C and Classic 1K tags are no longer reporting as NdefFormatable - so the functionality to format them TO NDEF is broken.
Essentially the NdefFormatable class verifies that the tag lists the tech before it will operate on them. As they no longer list that tech it refuses to do anything with them.
This affects all NFC Apps I've tried in the Market so far. If the tags are already formatted NDEF then they work without issue.
I've got a bug report open to see if I can get a response on this as well as a post on the dev group as it's not a listed change in the API changes anywhere from 3.0 up.
If you don't want to wait it out and want a refund let me know and I'll process it.
Its allright, seems like a decent app so I still want to explore the possibilities.

There are shops that sell the tags pre formatted with NDEF - those will work. Anything that comes blank though currently will not.
As a curiosity I sent an email to NXP as well to see if they have any more information. I'd like to get this sorted sooner rather than later so hang in there
Can this app be set to do something when moved away from an NFC tag?
So say you put it in car dock and a tag turns on BT. But when removed its turns off BT

No, there's no intent raised when the tag is moved out of range, only when it is detected.
It is reported in the logcat, but to do that you'd need to constantly be reading the logs and scanning for that (which would involve a read logs permission).
For all Europeans: I contacted tagage and their tags are not pre-formatted by default, but if you send them an email, they'll format your tags first.

Most vendors don't pre-format their tags - so get in touch with them before/when your order for now to be sure.
Hopefully this is something that I can get an answer on, but I don't currently see a good workaround.

Can you put implement it as an option on each tag? That way we could enable it for a car tag only and not another tag etc.
If that makes sense?

Assuming it only works with the Sony tags right?
In that case, we need to buy those pesky Sony tags lol.
Otherwise, I have seen other apps out there that do the same to generic tags that can be purchased and programmed.
Ok its kinda cool but i'm not sure I see the benefit... if for example you put one in your car to set the phone up for car usage then when you get into your car you need to remember to scan it? and like wise when you get out you need to scan it to reverse it?
ok the advert makes it a little more clear but not 100% sold yet... http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-nfc-smarttags-blue-white-red-black-4-pack

if I remember correctly scanning the tag again will not reverse the settings, you have to use another Smar Tag with the settings you wish to change to so it feels of very little use
Well, you can get multiple NFC tags and set them to your liking. Then set one as the 'return to normal' tag and keep it close by.
http://rapidnfc.com/item/72/printed_nfc_stickers_ntag203_standard_nfc_logo
They are not expensive and come as stickers as well.
So can put the 'return to normal' tag inside a wallet for example (stick it to a card etc)
I am seriously thinking of getting some tags to fool around with
Actually I thought I had seem something similar before:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5qd3NvZnQubmZjYWN0aW9ubGF1bmNoZXIiXQ..
Watch the video, he shows setting two "profiles" onto one tag so the first time you scan it you would get car mode and then second time you scan it you get home mode for example.

Me too! Just noticed the link I posted was exact same as yours... ops!
I got the tags from a friend who has a Xperia S. I don't seem to get them to work properly. With te app from Sony (it is only a widget) it won't pop up as a tag. The One X only says it has found a new tag, but that's it.
Anyone tried this yet?
EDIT:
I installed Tag launcher to rewrite the SmartTags and enable them to launch apps.

[APP] Locale/Tasker NFC Plugin

About the app
This is a plug-in for Locale and Tasker that extends them with NFC-functionality. It works by reading the UID (Unique Identifier) of a tag. Actions can then be associated with this UID and will be executed when the tag is scanned.
This allows you to reuse old discarded NFC-tags/cards that you might have lying around. Maybe you have some old access-cards or commuter-cards that you can use. It currently supports all NFC-standards that are supported by the Android system.
How to use it
Add a new situation
Add a new condition
Choose Locale NFC Plugin
Scan the tag
Add settings of your choice
You have now registered the tag with the phone and associated it with the desired actions. The next time you scan the tag the actions will be executed.
How do I get the app?
Please note that it's only a plug-in so you MUST have Locale or Tasker already installed on your device for it to work!
Follow the link to Google Play Store
Or scan the QR-code with your phone.
I'm happy to answer any questions that you might have.

What I know Tasker dosen't have this functionality built in. At least I haven't been able to find it. However I do believe that NFC Task Launcher + Tasker makes a similar combination.
The difference between Locale NFC Plugin + Tasker and NFC Task Launcher + Tasker would be that, with NFC Task Launcher you will have to write to the tag what it is that the phone should do once the tag is scanned. This means that you will have to buy tags that you can write to.
With Locale NFC Plugin you won't have to write anything to the tag. Hence you can reuse old NFC-tags/cards that you might have lying around.
Edit: strike the following as it's now showing as compatible (now purchased!). Not sure what happened but it's all good now.
Market / Play Store says it's not compatible with my device - a GSM GNex running AOKP (4.0.4 / build 32) and Franco kernel #135. I'm guessing your plug-in appears for devices that haven't been messed around with quite so much? It sounds very handy!

It doesn't work with screen off, this is how it's meant to work..
If you had your device, screen off, in your pocket, and someone would walk past you with his NFC enabled, strokes your pocket, and would steal your data, you would NOT be happy..
So now this is how it's supposed to work!
The automation is fairly awesome!!

Which one is better of those tags is better and will work with my phone ?

Hello guys !
I'm planing to buy some NFC Tags.
I'm having to option's but I'm more prefer one of them as I can have 2 NFC tags instead of one.
Here are they:
http://www.airnfc.com/collections/all/products/nfc-ntag203-white-1
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Android-NFC-...er_Cell_Phone_Accessories&hash=item27cee0b1d7
But as I said, I more prefer the one from AirNFC as they are cheaper and I could have them more.
But the question is with the AirNFC, there is an blank option or NDEF formatted. If I pick blank will they work and then can configure what action should be taken when phone detect's them ?
And a last question is do they work with App from Sony: Smart Connect ?
Also my phone is Sony Xperia L.

Funny, the AirNFC guyswant 0,4€ for formating ...hmm ok,I think it´s a fair deal, if they handle each tag manually .... and it´s a good quality check.
However if you want to decide between these 2 sellers and only the price matters, I would go for the unformatted AirNFC tags ....all good android nfc writers should be able to format them ...I even included a format option within NFC ReTag (although ReTag is not a classical nfc writer app).
additional Pro: fully nfc forum compliant ....con: less memory than the ebay mifare tags.
Both tag types should be compatible with your xperia .... the sony smart connect guys "forgot" the option to write tags, but with the right content on it, you should be able to use them both with the smart connect app ....(have again a look at Retag .. the (more--> write smarttag for sony devices option ) ... and if you already installed retag, i don´t think you would need the sony app anyway ;-P
