Can't send or receive texts with new SIM? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey all,
I broke my old iPhone 4, accidentally sold it with my old SIM, bought a 4S, took it back, and yesterday got a new SIM card for my new Galaxy Nexus. Everything worked fine after I activated the SIM over the phone, but I noticed I didn't get any texts.
I didn't think much of it, just other people having busy lives. The next day though, I didn't get anything back from my mother, which she surely would have text back by now. I gave her a call, and she told me that she never got anything from me, and I never received anything from her.
Investigating further, most people online said it was that I never assigned my phone an SMSC number. I put in the AT&T one and still no dice. I called AT&T, they re-added messaging, and still nothing. AT&T contacted Samsung, told me to do the SMSC change again and see nothing. I was able to get all the trial texts from AT&T, but couldn't send or receive anything from my friends or family.
Frustrated, I went down to Best Buy and bought an AT&T dumbphone to use so I could send back the Nexus, as well as finally be able to text. Still couldn't send or receive messages. Changed the SMSC on both the phone and SIM card, and got no errors, but texts still never got the recipient and I couldn't receive any.
Needless to say, I'm extremely frustrated. Anyone have any advise?

Yes, but I also sent regular texts as well. I did wipe the phone completely before sending it.

I agree. I went to the AT&T store today, and they opened a claim and said they'll have a solution by Tuesday, but I have a feeling that they'll come up blank.
I'm hoping maybe it's as simple as getting a new SIM, getting it going on an ATT phone, and then popping it into my Nexus.

Turns out it was account related, so I got it working on my dumb phone. Stuck the SIM into my Nexus and still nothing.
Never had any sort of trouble with iOS with this, or dumb phones. Maybe the Lumia is more my speed.

Cannot receive MMS from iPhones

I can send and receive MMS to myself and other Android phones but not from friends with iPhones.
I had this same problem with my Nexus One (running CM7) and I persisted and waited for the Galaxy Nexus. I have even changed network provider from 3 Australia to Telstra and the problem is not resolved. I am 100% sure it is a network independent issue.
I have searched and looked everywhere for a solution, can anyone suggest something.
THANKS !!!!

Try to test by having someone send you just an image with no text. I know when my wife sends me mms image with text from her iphone, I can only see the text, and not the image.

This happens every once in a awhile from my sister's iPhone. I don't remember the source, but it has to do with how the iPhone codes the mms messages. The iPhone started using some different way of encoding the messages a couple of years ago, and so far I think only iOS devices can decipher it correctly. I know this issue exists on Blackberries, and I am 90% certain it affects Windows Phone 7 as well. It is not an Android-specific issue (like what was touted when this first reared its head a while back). I know when the images do come through from my sister's phone they are usually a slideshow. I will test things with her phone this weekend and see if I can put rhyme or reason to it...
Did you change to this from a iPhone? If you did and you kept the same number, people will be sending you imessages instead of mms messages. There is no way around around this I don't think and a huge flaw with apple.

Its a flaw with iMess-age.
We confirmed this issue and we have attempted to contact Apple about it.

[Q] Getting odd text messages on my phone, does anyone know what they mean?

I recently upgraded my HTC EVO 4G to an HTC EVO 4G LTE but after a few days with the LTE version I decided that I didn't like it. I had been playing around with my daughter's iPhone 4S and started really digging it and so I decided to join the dark side and exchange my EVO LTE for the iPhone 4S. I love it and everything has been awesome about it so far but a few days ago I started receiving some odd text messages and have no clue what they mean. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the text messages or not but I did give my old EVO 4G to my son and had it activated at the Sprint store with his number. Is it possible that my old phone has something to do with these odd text messages. I am confused and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.
Dude, search 9016 text message. You'll find plenty
Your sons Virtual Voice Mail app from sprint on the evo is connected to ur number its hard to change it sooo factory data reset his phone might work I know because when I flashed roms and all I got a SVVM (sprint virtual voice mail) app for the custom rom and it sent that text to me to verify that its activated or not and it says ur number is activated on his evo so sprint send a text to the number(your number) confirming that its connected and is activated soo..if factory data reset doesn't work or u don't want to try taking it back to sprint and tell them the problem

Will it affect either of phone's ability to receive voicemails or any other functions?

[Q] SMS issue or network?

I've recently been having issues, its happened here and back before but this time I'm not even receiving messages anymore. Before I would receive the messages hours late or a day later. Now I'm not receiving anything unless I send them a SMS. Even then its a slim chance.
Does anyone know the cause or issue causing this? I've already thought network but I'm not sure that's the case.

i have no idea.
your sim card craps itself? your network blows? you didn't pay? what's your current rom/baseband?
I think the Verizon network has some serious issues related to SMS. I never had any problems with text messages on T-Mobile and since switching to Verizon is been a nightmare.
Here's a link to my thread with SMS problems too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893974
Edit: Also, if you just Google "Verizon missing text messages," you get a ton of similar stories and no solutions..

None of that, my coverage is fantastic. I'm usually full bars on 4g rarely do I drop to three. No sim card issues and I'm sure that would not affect me as I think that's strictly a 4g thing.
This has happened on various ROMs and latest radio.

Mm.. its just odd. This hasn't been happening till recently.. I've also just found out if I send a SMS to the person trying to Text me I will receive an onslaught of their messages.
this is the weirdest issue..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yea, I've had another similar issue with receiving messages that were sent way earlier, hours later and after I send that person a text. I've decided I'm gonna suck up the $350 ETF and just switch to T-Mobile with their $30/ month prepaid plan. I'll have none of these issues AND save a bunch of money.

[Q] Missed texts and calls for 2 days.. how can I determine cause?

Like the title says people called and texted me the past 2 days and I didn't realize until 5 minutes ago when I received several texts at once. My question is how can I tell what caused it? AT&T, hardware, or software (custom rom, tweaks, etc?)
EDIT: I texted people during this time and they received them but I did not receive their replies until just now
My old galaxy Note used to do the same thing. I talked to ATT but they said everything was OK and I flashed multiple ROMs to seek a solution with no avail... Even did it with stock roms... Flashed different modems and nothing... So it might be a phone hardware (antenna or something of the sort) I got rid of the Note and got my SG3 ...if its still under warranty get it swapped...
Its the only advice since it happened to me as well and hasn't happened in my S3 at all

Anyone else have any ideas/feedback?
Happening to me too!
I have the same issue. The only way I know it has happened is when my family email's me and asks why I am not responding to their texts or calls. I have spoken to AT&T twice now. So far they had me go get a new sim card and claim they have sent things to my phone that *should* cure the problem. The last call was yesterday and I am waiting to see if it is fixed but I would bet against it. My phone is still under warranty and it if happens again, I will swap it out. They also wanted to get me to upgrade to Jelly Bean which I already have done hoping for a fix.
I have never had to swap out a defective phone. Will they send out a replacement and allow me to keep this phone until the replacement arrives or must I send mine in first? With this phone using a mini sim card, I do not have another phone I can use during the shipping time.

[Q] IMEI blocked?

Okay so I found galaxy note 2 from a craiglist deal, popped in sim card, everything worked great as its a tmobile version but said per seller that it was unlocked. 30 minutes later after the deal my device had been blocked from network use. My sim would no longer work in my older phone, so I called and got that fixed, but I now have a stupid nice phone that im using for a paper weight. Obviously the person who sold it to me either knew it was reported lost or stolen, or reported it after selling it to me, its whatever it happens right.
What are my options? I really want to be able to use this phone and spent a lot of money on it. I appreciate all input.
Try using another sim card I suppose

I did, I even went to the AT&T store and they gave me a new sim card and it worked, made calls, surfed the web for like 10 minutes and the same thing happened.

the only thing you can do is have the seller call att or tmobile, what ever its branded and tell them they found the devise and att can unblock the imei
Sounds like u was scammed.

Only other option may be to try it on the other carrier. If it's a TMo phone, try it on ATT and vice versa.

I don't know if you guys have reading comprehension problems or what... Dude said he used on tmo for 30 minutes and then got blocked, and then did the same thing with AT&T. For those of you that don't know AT&T and T-Mobile now share their blacklists, meaning it will not work on any carrier that uses any of those towers. Sad to say your best option would be to sell to an international user on celltraderonline. Be very clear that it is on the US blacklist and will not work with AT&T, T-Mobile or their sister carriers.
Have you tried any T-Mobile or AT&T MVNO's like Simple Mobile or Red Pocket? That might work. If not your pretty much screwed. Unless you use it in another country.

Wow, I guess you didn't read my post above yours.
I have been "burnt" also with buying a T-Mo Note 2 on Craigslist. I used my phone for 2 mos before it got blocked from T-Mo. I used the dialer tricked and unlocked the phone and now using it on Straight Talk Att sim. But you are right you can't use it on T-Mo network or any of the mvnos. You can only use it for ATT mvnos. I get 4g speeds and everything.

if the phone has been imei blacklisted it will not work on any united states gsm service that includes straight talk... highly doubt you have a blocked phone working on straight talk
I had another thread going about being blocked on imei.
I just called tmobile and talked to them for about thirty minutes about my situation.
A quick summarization of the conversation is:
- The previous owner has been accused of fraud so that is the reason of the blocked IMEI.
- Can't do anything to unblock it, unless the previous owner retracts ther dues or whatever it is that needs to be payed.
- No third party unlocking will work.
Well for me, I fortunately have his information such as address and phone number and the text conversation still logged on my old phone. Luckily I called him today as a private number to check if he's phone still worked and still does, thank god.
Now I'm planning on calling him up tomorrow and, professionally, tell him my situation. When I met the guy, he didn't seem like a bad guy but hey, never judge a book by it's cover eh.
If he refuses any of these or won't agree to a median than I'll have to take legal actions.
That's my plan that is. I am not going to let $600.00 go to waste on a blocked phone! I'm taking this guy all the way.

not sure but can't you get rid of your IMEI by flashing a bunch of times? I had this happen with my SK4G, my IMEI number under settings was a bunch of 0s. When I called up T-mobile and asked for an unlock code for the phone, it didn't work because my IMEI was screwed up. I ended up having to alter some Hex file in order to unlock it
