[DUMP] G1 Blaze (G2 prototype) - G2 and Desire Z Android Development

As mentioned on IRC a long time ago, here is the dump of the G2 prototype, called 'G1 Blaze'
I'm not sure how useful this is now, but I thought I'd put it up for everyone's curiosity. Please feel free to mirror elsewhere.

Very interesting. Was planning on sleeping. That is now postponed.
Thanks for this!

Why on earth didn't they keep the black it looks so much better then this sort of grey

mmcblk0, file size: 4GB.
"The missing 2GB", episode 2?
Guessing that eMMC was partitioned in MLC mode on this one.
So, the differences are: black housing, secondary mic, AMOLED screen, 4GB of internal memory. Anything else?
And that would be an even more awesome device if HTC released it without these changes.

is here wrong place to post it?

It's not a ROM. Read the thread title.
It's a DUMP from the G2 PROTOTYPE.
It contains all partitions' dump, including HBoot (v.0.55.2000 ENG, never seen before), Radio, System and all the other things.
And BTW I downloaded it and everything's fine for me.
Copied this file to my Dropbox as a mirror.
@OP: Can you provide some more photos of the device (or maybe side-by-side ones that you've talked about on IRC)? I'm VERY interested in PCB photos, but if you don't want to disassemble the phone, it's up to you

+1 I think they went the wrong direction changing the screen and making it gray instead of black. Idk why they didn't leave it black. It looks f***in sweet black... lol

ok now i understand. sorry

How did you manage this compression? 7.4 GB inside of a 670 MB file?

In all curiousity, did the prototype have the Z-hinge?

Pretty cool the prototype. Dunno about you guys but I kinda wished our DZs came with an AMOLED screen like that. Wonder what we can do with those files..

I actually got to speak with the Product Manager for the G2 and she said their market survey indicated the gray/silver color was preferred.

More photos attached. I don't care about serial numbers. The G2 was sent to China and the G1Blaze is only a test device now.

Much of the dump is wasted space, and the 2 nandroids are pretty much copies of the dump, so compress to insignificant space.

The photos should show the pentile OLED, of which I am not a fan. I already tried to replace the OLED with a G2 LCD and found out the ribbon connectors are not compatible.

You are a quote master. Thanks for all of this, really cool! This makes me wish HTC would be making another QWERTY slider like our beloved G2 though

Dam I never knew this existed amoled display would've been sick on this phone with that black trim

Personally I prefer the silver/grey. Look more classy IMO.

This makes sooo sad!!
If I knew about this waiting for my G2 I prolly would have been real upset knowing there was always going to be a better version of the phone I loved!!
Tmobile G2 = The overly used silver benz everyone drives!
G1 Blaze = Would have delivered exactly what everyone was expecting! =/
....So much prettier, ....8mb camera w/ stock 2.2?
OP Why did take away so many capabilities? ....and know where I can Buy one? Seriously! ^_^

I don't see what makes you sad here...
1) this prototype has amoled POS display. SLCD > amoled.
2) Slow performing 4GB internal storage vs FAST performing 2GB. I'll take the faster anyday, since the device supports external add-on.
3) If by "8mb" you mean "8 MP", I don't see anything indicating such.
4) Ugly painted black plain prototype. Easy to scratch off paint and would quickly look like junk. They paint prototypes like that to make them nondescript.
What we have is basically *superior* to this prototype. The next step up is the HTC DOUBLESHOT.

Touch Pro 2 Spec Change

I went on HTC's website and the dimensions changed, now it says its 16.65 mm thick, before it said it was like 17.1 mm thick, does this mean that other spec changes could happen too? (Well actually they probably could but I doubt they will) But its still great that its a little thinner now, now its thinner than a G1 or Xperia X1
Clove's description says it has FM tuner, I hope this is correct.
Well at least it's something positive
HTC's website says its only 16.65 mm thick, but where they are selling it on Clove, it says 17.25 mm thick. Which one to believe....
16.65, 17.25mm. Does 0.6mm really matter?
True enough HTC has changed it's specs. Thinner is better of course. That is 0.6mm thinner. Will that be because they took the Radio Chip out? That is a bad trade off if it is. 0.6mm is not really noticeable.

LOL now that you mention it, that is probably why its thinner
I would much rather have it be the same thinness as before and have a radio than to make it a little thinner and to lose such a nice feature, maybe other than the fact that it saves them money they did it to even out the diamond 2 and it a little.

I saw that photo before and it was posted after our discovery about the change of sepcs on HTC's website. The photo was a relief but no one else have proven the radio afterward. But I hope that photo was correct by any means.
should be receiving mine tomorrow with luck, just received shipping notification, and as i'm so excited i probably won't sleep i'll do tomorrows work tonight and then get to play all day i'll let you know what i can find on it.
Well no radio so far found, the stylus has a distinct metal feel to it and the device does turn on when you take it out.
So far i am very impressed the grill onthe back i guess is for battery cooling as the speakers are only at the top , g-sensor all works fine and stuff unfortuntly am connecting to internet via work currently so can't post pictures or anything but if anyone has any requests for info i will check as often as i can.

+1 on not doing the FuNkY typing!
Personally, I paid more for my desire than the nexus one. Obviously market conditions have changed. There is no longer an AMOLED issue on Desire because of SLCD. Nexus One on the other hand, doesnt use SLCD and has been discontinued, making it rarer and harder to acquire.
You'd expect it to be more expensive now

No - the Nexus One hasn't been discontinued!
Google closed their online "mobile phone" store, but the Nexus One is still being manufactured and can be purchased as the official Android Dev phone and direct from carriers such as Vodafone in the UK.
In addition, it has also moved to SLCD.
On to the OPs question - the slight hardware diffences between the Desire and Nexus One will account for some of it (e.g. noise cancelling microphone on the Nexus, trackball, capacitive buttons etc), and the rest is probably just a "Google Tax" because they set the price of the Nexus One.

Dave

Why? iT's ReaLly BoRinG fOr mE tO tYpE In tHe NoRmaL wAy..
Any way i type in normal way beacause of you
Thank u, Good Reason, It Seems To Be Just Google
((But Why Do u Prefer TrackBall To Optical One))
Might be boring but it's the forum rules - if you don't want to follow them then leave
'' Pisssss on This ****ing rules, i just want my cigarettes back''
don't get it wrong it's just a quote from my favorite movie ''One Flew Over the cuckoo's Nest''
But Correct me if i'm wrong:
IF i type tYpE instead of type, i've just broken the rules..?
Come on i know most of user don't like this type of typing & i should respect them and don't type in that way (as i'm doing NOW) BUT i don't think it's against the RULES...
From the Rules (http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263#td_post_81)
3. Post only using a clear subject and message - so must be legible and not hard to read

hah, nice one EddyOS
the trackball I would prefer because I find it hard to use my optical D pad because when my phone is in my case it is quite hard to find it and use (while typing a text) so if a ball would just stick out a bit more I would find it more confortable
Thank u EddyOs..
But ''Post only using a clear subject and message'' doesn't say that typing tYpE is wrong, tYpE is NOt Clear..?

The Nexus One has the FM radio too, by virtue of the using the same Broadcomm chip, and I believe it has been enabled in some Nexus One ROMs (though not officially).

Just got me new Desire

Hi
Just got me a refurbished Desire from 3 for a very decent price, so I never got the original box which means I have no way of knowing what type of screen I have
It has Android version 2.2 is that scone or custard slice? haha, so can I asume it will have a SLCD screen
also why does it have a purple tinge, I read that somewhere else and hoped mine wouldnt be like that, will need a cover that goes over the whole phone to be honest cos its not good for my street cred having a purple phone, haha
on the hunt for a decent theme to use, the live screens are great but will get bored of them sooner or later, ive seen some that change the look of all the icons, how do I get one of them installed?
any links for the push software so i can get an alert from facebook
thanks for your help

Easiest way to confirm what screen you have is turrn on your camera in a pitch black room. If its amoled the screen will stay pitch black on your phone, if its slcd you will easily notice any sort of light bleeding around the edge of the screen. I think I'm right in saying that?

Cracking Open the HTC One X ?

Does anyone one know if anyone has done one of those "cracking open" vids for the HOX yet ? I would be interested to see how it's set up inside. I'd also like to know if the 32GB internal memory is actually a micro-SD card that could be swapped for a 64GB at some point

I would be shocked if the internal memory was a MicroSD and not soldered to the board. It kind of defeats the purpose to make it non-removable and NOT give us the performance of a dedicated connection.

From a diagnostics, servicing & repair point of view it would be much cheaper and easier if it was an SD card.
Not sure about manufacturing. Probably about even.
Just wondering if the only way to open up the One X is to remove the LCD screen? If yes then what's the point of knowing if it's a 32mb SD card? Is the average joe able to open it up anyway?

Put a HOX under X-ray (Turn it OFF first) and post a pic here.
We'll find out, if there is a memory card or something. Also, may be we'll see how to disassemble a HOX.
I think the HOX may be easier to disassemble that you might think.
I bought a gel skin case for mine which I take off fairly often because the HOX is so damn beautiful and nice to hold that it seems a crime to ruin it with a case.
Anyway, the case it quite a snug fit and I noticed when removing it that if I put my thumb on top of the polycarbonate just under the buttons at the bottom of the screen and firmly but gently flex it back I can snap the polycarbonate away from the screen by just a few millimetres. I can clearly see three little snaptabs sticking off the bottom of the screen that hold the polycarbonate in place. It snaps right back into place immediately.
I am too scared to try this right now but I think with further gentle pressure the whole outer casing would be levered away and you could lift all the innards out of the polycarbonate unibody.
There is clearly no "tool" access to the device so I assume that this is how it is assembled and disassembled.
BTW, here is a short video of the "opening" I mentioned above :

So maybe this brings hope, that this is not a throw away phone or a send back to HTC service centre senario. Hopefully the battery could be user replacable in a few years time, once third party batteries become available.
gives me hope too...
even if it's a Li-Po, probably third parties will make a bigger battery for it, if it's possible.. >=)

[Q] Should i trade my Nokia N9 for a one x with a messed up LCD?

I sold my htc amaze a few months ago to buy the n9 and im getting tired of not having any app selections (it was cool at first), and the one x looks pretty sick. found someone on craigslist that is willing to trade but he dropped the phone and the screen doesn't turn on. he has a new digitizer for it but not an LCD. They aren't too expensive on ebay (found one for like $40). he said the phone turns on and everything works (capacitive buttons, sound, etc). The thing im worried about is if it has water damage, is there any way to find out? and if not do you guys think its worth it?
thanks
edit: nevermind did more searching on the water damage indicator and found it. still would like to know your opinions/advice though
A screen repair requires the digitiser and LCD. Just do a search for broken screen threads here.

Official ones come as one unit and cost more. It'll cost about 150 UK pounds for official repair. Factor that into your cost, and the fact that it's second hand, and the fact you can't test it properly... Is it worth it? I doubt it, but a working One X is an incredible device.

this is what im looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-LCD-DIS...930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c7451912 you don't think this would be real? it also has 30 days money back so if it isn't the real deal..
Don't do it, go for a proper second hand device a fully working one, better to have the original screen as it's a lovely screen.

thank you, ill take your advice. it seems not many people are interested in the n9 as much as I thought they would.
It always feels good to have a new device which is fresh and you are much sure that it doesn't have a defect or something, if you're are looking for some advice, well for me, i will personally tell you that go and just buy a new one ( Fresh like Dougie )
