(Screenshots show the battery profiles changing the core count)
This application will allow you to control how many cores are active on your phone!
Is your One X getting a little hot or is the battery running out a little too quick? This application attempts to solve these problems by allowing you to disable some of the processor's cores!
Battery Profiles Info (Please Read!)
[Battery Profiles will override whatever number is selected by the buttons at the top!]
First of all, this is nothing more than a proof of concept update. I realise that having a set number of profiles isn't the best idea and people will want to be able to change the cores on heat as well as battery level. There is also screen-off and charging profiles that need to be done. The layout is definitely not final either and will be changed in the next updates. I will try my best to incorporate these functions as well as others that have been requested.
Second, the 3 battery level values you can edit (in the Battery Profiles section) MUST go in descending order (e.g. 100, 80, 50, etc). The app will check for this.
The Battery profiles should take effect instantly.
Please expect bugs. This update is very much a proof of concept and whilst the battery profiles function correctly in my testing, bugs may very well arise.
Known Bugs
Very occasionally it will revert to the default of 4 cores when using the battery profiles. I've only ever seen this happen once and I have no idea what caused it.
Voltage is not currently colour-coded (I don't know the min/max levels)
Temperature is not fully colour-coded. Anything below 40C will be Green and anything above will be Red. More colours will be added when I know the Max battery temperature and I can work out good colour ranges.
Original thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630200
I highly recommend you install TegraStats - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615666 (or search 'Tegrastats Free' on the market) - to monitor how many are active.
If the file doesn't exist for you, try this fix!

Changelog
Code:
v1.4.2
Hopefully fixed the pointless and repeated request for SU access
v1.4.1 [BETA]
Only ever asks for Root Access when changing cores
Added CPU temperature and frequency (Many thanks to Treebill!)
- WARNING: The frequency jumps around a lot. I don't know if the file is buggy or this is actually happening
- CPU temp and frequency only ever update when CoreControl is open. This will obviously be changed when CPU temperature profiles are introduced
- CPU temp is fully colour-coded
Battery Temperature is now fully colour-coded (Many thanks to Treebill!)
General code clean up and optimisation
v1.4 [BETA]
Added Battery Profiles
- See "Battery Profiles Info" above
Should get and display Battery Information quicker
[B]v1.3[/B]
UI Changes
Added a 'Battery Information' Sliding Drawer with the following information:
- Battery Health
- Power Type [USB/AC/Battery]
- Battery Charge [With Battery state, Charging, Full, etc.]
- Battery Temperature
- Battery Voltage
It's all colour-coded too!
Battery Profiles are pretty much fully coded, they're not included in this release though. Should be done by next update.
[B]v1.2[/B]
Removed pointless code
Quite a few UI changes
Active Cores can now be set on boot (last one selected will be used).
[B]v1.1[/B]
Removed pointless "1 Core" option
Disabling/Enabling cores should be quicker (slightly)
[B]V1.0[/B]
Initial Release
Enjoy!
All credits go to MrPhilo and K0rner!

How doesn't it work? Does it force close, throw an error message or just not do anything?

Doesn't work on Android revolution hd because of missing file.

Really? That's what I'm running at it works fine
Edit: Added a potential fix for the missing file in the OP. I've not tested it personally, so I don't know for definite that it works. I'll test it out properly tomorrow and if it works I'll integrate it into the app

Confirmed working on Lee droid v6.1

it'd be cool if you could add a way to make it automatically turn off cores when your phone got to a certain battery percentage.

Working great! so far (arhd 5.2.0)
For me personally your app is EXTREMLY usefull!!! I never play any games.... i bought the phone because it has a great camera. No need for 4 cores As long the camera works and the launcher runs smoothly i am happy! In combination with a no-sense rom, low brightness patch and a nice kernel i got enough energy for a day with taking a lot of photos. Thx a lot!

If you need some help on graphics you can contact me

Ah fair enough! I'll play around with some ROMs later and see if I can confirm it works!
Small update for now; Removed the pointless "1 core" option and sped up disabling/enabling cores slightly!
New download is in the OP.

Great little helper!
Thank U for that. Works fine on LeeDrOid 6.2.0!
One suggestion: would be nice if there's an option to apply settings on boot. For me after rebooting last setting is gone.
But anyway: Thank U for this tool!

[RELEASE] Bandroidx's Bravo Overclock App

Hey guys, thanks for being patient. Here is this first beta release of my overclock app. Its a private beta for you guys on xda while we work out any kinks etc. Thanks to Heydabob's initial alpha testing we were able to confirm the app is functioning and the overclock works and has a real world difference.
Currently the app offers you many rates to choose from ranging from 800mhz to 1.2ghz in 50mhz steps. It also lets you choose your max voltage VSEL rate. Stock is 56. You can even use the app to undervolt your kernel by setting your rate to 800mhz and your VSEL voltage to anything less than 56.
So far heydabob's phone was confirmed stable at 1ghz w/ 56 (stock) VSEL. He also got stable results with 1ghz at 54 VSEL but he did get a reboot (which may or may not have been related to the overclock) In addition to a 200+ point jump in quadrant he also noticed real world speed differences using swype and his launcher app. He did not test games but I would assume the difference would also be noticeable in some instances.
YOU MUST BE ROOTED. This is a root only app. Currently this will only run on 2.1 only! If your running 2.2 Froyo (testers of moto only right now) the app will tell you to contact me, please do! I need to get some info from someone on 2.2 to get the new addresses from the new kernel.
Currently the Auto start on bootup is disabled because that feature is not yet complete but I decided to release it without it to make sure everything is working right before I enable that anyways. When you set the overclock you will be overclocked until you reboot, then you will go back to stock completely. If you want to be overclocked again just run the app again!
I have tested the app quite thoroughly but please report any and all bugs and include your debug info (hit the debug info button in the app) when posting a bug report.
DL Link:
Download the 2.2 version below, it also supports 2.1
Update 4/9/11:
I have uploaded the new version v1.1.2 - beta supporting Froyo 2.2 to the Android Market! It's a donate version, if you like this app and want to contribute to the continuing work on my bravo development please consider buying the donate version. It also gives you the ability to get easy updates. I will try to reward those who donate by releasing new updates like this 2.2 version to the market first and then releasing on here a couple days later.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bandroidx.bravo.overclock&feature=search_result
If you search for Bravo or Bravo overclock in the android market its the first to come up. Be sure to rate 5 stars
Update 4/14/11:
The free froyo compatible version of the app is here. The free version now includes ad's (basic admob banner - nothing too annoying) to support current and future development. Mainly you guys are helping me test which method works best for my future apps on the market. I want to see how ads perform compared to a paid version. Unfortunately ad's are paid on a per click basis (**hint hint**) not a per impression basis so we will see how they do.

Heydabop's results were very stable at 1ghz at stock voltage, he left it for a couple days i believe with no issues. based on what i have read about this specific cpu in our phone, it does handle 1ghz usually well in most phones that have it.
You could actually go in my app and lower it back to 800 and 54 or 52 to undervolt when your not doing cpu intensive stuff, then overclock when you need it. Some people will leave it all the time.
Thank you for this B!!! Also have you had any luck finding what you need from anyone testing 2.2?

Yea, I had to factory reset my phone (stupid reason), and talk isn't on it anymore? I'm working on that.... And I was on my computer for only an hour last night, sorry.
EDIT: Fixed.
Do you want me to try and make you a better icon later today?
Also, looks like you fixed the OC not taking on the first set, nice.
Another note, I (and prolly bandroidx too, as he recommended it to me) recommend getting setcpu to anyone using this. It's a nice little utility.

You can use quadrant standard a free app from the market for benchmark comparisons. while its use as a benchmark between phones is useless, its great for testing overclocks.
Neocore is another free benchmark demo. Linpack is an old one that isnt really used much these days.

Still nothing from Motorola about 2.2. And I've heard the update is stored in cache/tmp? Is there really any way the update will be accessible through just a system dump? BTW, the app is some high quality work..my Bravo seems to run decent on 1.2ghz. I only had it at 1.2 for like 10 minutes though. It beats the Droid X in performance with the overclock. It works great with SetCpu, you did a great job with it all.

I have a rooted Bravo with stock ROM. I also have the Allow Non Market Apps installed. I installed your apk with Astro and got an Security Warning message" This application comes from an unknown source, and for your security only applications from trusted sources can be installed." How to install your apk? Thanks.
If you're getting that message, you may have missed one of the database entries you need to change to allow non market apps.
When you go into Settings-Applications, do you have an "Unknown sources" option?
Sent from my MB520 using XDA App
No, I don't have the "Unknown sources" option. I believe AT&T removes it. For now, I use the android-sideload-wonder-machine. Please share with me if you know how to bring back the "Unknown sources" option.
Got this from the" General" forum from "no clue". And it works.
------------------------------------------------
* I am not responsible if you brick your phone, but this is the easiest way, besides ADB shell comand.
** this step also work on At&t flipout
1. Root your bravo.
2. Install "RootExplorer".
3. Install "SQLite Editor".
4. Use "RootExplorer" take you to
/data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db/settings
5. click on the "Value" colum of "force_only_market_apps"
6. Press "menu" button and select "Edit Field"
7. Change "1" to "0", then save.
Now you have "Unknown sources" option available for you at "Application Settings". ( check it to enable non-market install directly from web or your microsd card )

just saved me some time.
I still need someone on 2.2 so i can update the app for 2.2.
When i release the update for 2.2 it will also have the ability to load on startup...
I have all the info I need for 2.2, update should be out this weekend. Will try to include auto load feature.

[MOD] How To Turn off Exynos Cores (and underclock)

I expected it to be slightly more complicated than this but apparently not. I know that you can underclock with the use of applications but I thought I'd mention that it can be also be done this way too.
Note: I'm pretty sure this is modifying the Exynos but I've not had enough time to play with it yet so I'm not 100% sure.
WARNING: This modification will directly modify how the CPU works. As such I will not be held responsible for any damage this may cause. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Tested on
Samsung Galaxy S 4 i9500 (most likely will not work on the i9505)
Omega v4.0 ROM
Perseus Kernel
Requirements
I9500
Root Access
ADB command knowledge or a Root File Editor.
How to set the max number of active cores
1) Locate the file
Code:
/sys/power/cpucore_max_num_limit
2) Change it from 4 to whatever (you cannot set this to 0)
How to set the minimum number of active cores
1) Locate the file
Code:
/sys/power/cpucore_min_num_limit
2) Change it from 0 to whatever (you cannot set this to 4)
How to check it's working
1) Locate the file
Code:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/offline
This file should tell you how many cores are disabled (e.g, If you limit the active cores to 2, the 'offline' file will read "2-3".
2) You can double check with the
Code:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/online
file which will tell you have many cores are active.
How to underclock
[Pretty unnecessary as you can use various applications to do this bit for you]
1) Locate the file
Code:
/sys/power/cpufreq_max_limit
2) Change it to whatever you want (as long as it's a valid frequency)
You can also lock the device to 1.6GHz by editing the
Code:
/sys/power/cpufreq_min_limit
file
The Min and Max frequencies can also be changed by editing the files in
Code:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ikcs-cpufreq
Things to Remember
1) These changes are not permanent. They will revert back to their defaults on boot.
2) Limiting the Exynos to 1 core causes the device to get rather unstable and can cause reboots.
3) I haven't tested this fully; any damage this may do I will not be held responsible for. Anything you do here you do so at your own risk.

Ok, but... Why?
Good question. For me, this mod is completely unnecessary. I'm planning on making an application for this in the near future if anyone's interested.
Interestingly, there's very little difference between 2 cores and 4 in general usage. This may extend your battery life somewhat and perhaps cool the device down for those experiencing overheating but apart from that it's fairly useless.
Enjoy!
You could easily echo the commands in init.d scripts. Set sleep first to allow device to boot smoothly

For the battery conscious among you I've been running my phone on 1 core all day by accident, I must have forgot to change it back, and it seems to have been both stable and pretty efficent, battery wise. I'll do a proper test when I next fully charge it.

If i'm correct these changes only apply to the A15 cores not A7?

Currently waiting to be sent an invoice to get my S4 repaired (the LCD screen cracked, possibly due to overheating as I never dropped it).
I could build you a quick app if you want but it won't have been tested.
It's fine, I can volunteer to test the app.

Good Job.
Ok, here's an app to do it for you.

There is no point in trying to turn the cores off by force, they are powered off by CPU idle C2 state. Same reason why the phone doesn't have usual hot-plugging anymore. All you're doing is limiting performance and probably even worsening battery life by not having the load spread out over many cores at low frequency.
Also I think this thread belongs in some other forum.

Not sure about battery life savings, didn't test it fully.
Running on 2 cores doesn't seem to impact much on performance in games but it does drastically reduce the overheating problem so I guess this could be considered a 'quick fix' until (or even if) Samsung sorts it out. I even said in the original post that this mod is pretty unnecessary but I thought I may as well post that it's possible to do.
Don't see why it doesn't belong in this forum either as it's a mod that no one's done before (as far as I'm aware) making it "Original". I guess it'd be at home in both Original and non-Original Development but the criteria for each aren't exactly clear.
I'm sure a mod will move the thread if they deem it to be misplaced.

Dirty Unicorns (DU) is a custom ROM originally based off AOKP, but now based from OmniROM. DU brings you a great mix of stability and customization. The idea to start a ROM like this was purely out of boredom, but later turned into a form of an addiction, a good one. We began to have fun while still doing things the right way. By doing so, we received high praise from not only our users but by fellow developers of other ROMs that also enjoy seeing things done the right way. This ROM will always be free of charge without any strings attached or any of it's developers luring you into donating, or any form of "pay to flash".

- Flash the recommend GAPPS and ENJOY!!
Download
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23578570567714220
Issues
- Enabling some of the multitasking features will cause the camera to fail and the rom to become unstable.
- Note enabling ART is not supported and will simply cause the ROM to continually reboot. That is because ART is not supported by the xposed framework used by this rom..
- Still is some BSOD..
Changes
[07/17/14]
Changed kernel to use miroslav 3.4
Added OC of 1566 MHz
Added 2 new governors - lulxactive, smartassv2
Have fun, stay dirty.
Any GPS lock issue or BSODs like I have experienced other KitKat Roms after 2/7?

Yes there are still occasional memory allocation issues (aka BSOD), I am trying to upgrade the wind kernel to run CM11, I have it compiling but it did not boot - more investigating required
Nz
I've been running Dirty Unicorns for about a day. The rom seems smoother and more responsive vs. the Mokee rom. The one annoying issue (for me) is that the hardware menu lights are not illuminated. Is there a way to enable them? I found the option to enable the software menu keys, but I prefer not to give up the real estate on the screen. I'm using the Capacitive app but it doesn't respond very well (e.g. turns the lights on/off haphazardly).
Good job! I see a lot of promise with this rom.
Thanks!
alright then, i've been using DU for 4 days, i'll try to make it short
The Good:
-Awesome customization options (center clock, network speed indicator etc, all the good stuff is there)
-Many features (Halo, PIE, Lockscreen notifications, Active Display... you name it, it's there)
-No sdcard bug when installing apps (no need to push to /data or unmount the sdcard)
-Stable (as in doesn't crash and didn't have a single BSOD, but read on...)
The Bad:
-Tiny omissions that get on your nerves (no network mode toggle in the quick settings panel? really?)
-Browser crashes from time to time (just install chrome)
-Torch takes about 8-10 seconds to turn on (just annoying, no dealbreaker)
The Ugly:
-Phone slows to a crawl every 12 hours or so. It won't crash, but it will be slow as molasses, not really respond to your touch input, eat your battery alive and restarting from that state takes about 5 minutes
-Network connection will crap itself sometimes, it doesn't lose connection, but there's nothing above 200b/s (bytes, not kilobytes!), phone calls are hit and miss and you can't send or receive sms...
all in all a nice rom, but don't use it if you HAVE to be reachable for friends/coworkers/family ^^''

no problem, you're the one doing the actual work, so i think writing a few lines for a review should be par for the course
yeah, some kernel tuning would be nice, the standard CM-Kernel is pretty basic. i dont really care for OC, but UV and a smartass governor would definitely be nice to have, since our device's favorite food seems to be batteries.

The secret ingredient is not in the soup. I was able to compile a KK version using the adreno libs from miroslav cm10.1 version - plus all the patches he made as well, and still got an out of memory issue when loading clash of the clans...
Nz
So it some sort of memory issue. I've read places that say its either CPU/memory management but they've argued over it basically so I was a lil iffy on which one. So memory it seems. I was able to open that game a few times here & there but not frequently enough. I would clear recent apps & sometimes let me in

Is it possible to install the kernel seperatly as a zip file like the wind kernels ? And if yes where can I get the kernel zip file ? Or do you make a update the kernel within ?

New version is up, with 3.4 kernel. I dont have the time to make a build to upgrade the kernel directly, plus i am not sure if it would even work.
Clash of clans runs with no special tweaks.

That shouldn't be needed as the Dalvik source was fixed, that was from my vs980 thread, which I have been building for a while. Please note that I do not have this so I am guessing at a lot of this. However it works on every other variant besides the Canadian D803 which I am hoping to test.
If that is needed please let me know and I will see what I can do about it, thanks!

Halo isn't being supported by PA any more and the primary dev from LS never really liked it so I don't see it coming back anytime soon. As far as adding it back myself, I doubt it, I am not really a dev just a builder. I can make small changes but that is a pretty large framework shift and would cause a lot more work down the road. Sorry, I know there are features I have fallen in love with that got pulled and it sucks but we adapt, that's why it's great to have opposable thumbs. :cyclops:
Aside from a little boot animation lag and no GPS lock this is very smooth. LS has always been one of my favs

There is a patch that was added yesterday that should speed up boot and use more cores if they are available. There are some issues with Force Close at the moment so I am waiting to build. Most of the time GPS won't work until you flash back to stock use an app like GPS Test to get a lock and then flash back, I have had to do this a few times myself.

The way I use to fix it on Samsung devices was flash a stock based ROM get a lock then back into recovery and wipe everything but system, then flash an aosp ROM and it would lock. Will I do the same on LG? Last time I didn't wipe system I got a bootloop.

When the ROM installs, it wipes System, so if you had an issue before, I would say wipe system, it shouldn't hurt it.
I am not sure why or how it works, all I know is I have done it a couple of times and it works. :cyclops:

Anyways no need for the md5sum, this is so blazingly fast its unbelievable.. In trickster mod its not possible for mpdecision to be toggled.. Its stuck off.. The second core seems to be stuck at 980 MHz says CPU stats in trickster mod..
Battery stats isn't listing anything draining the battery.. Not sure if its because im plugged in or not..
Edit: it's because I was plugged in..
Holy F*** this is too fast if that's possible.. LTE is the fastest its been, even on a stock ZVA ROM and radio.. I was comparing it to a stock g flex and everything loads faster.. Camera browser etc .
Edit2: a screenshot via volume down+power caused a lock up and random reboot.. I did have it over clocked though.. I'll try with stock kernel frequency's
Isn't 2.5 GHz more than enough for a quad core honestly?.. What would be the use of something that high.. I mean my computers processor isn't even that good..

It isn't an issue with the ROM, you can very easily fix it by flashing back to stock, getting a lock and coming back to LS. I use GPS without issue although I have in the past needed to flash to stock and get a lock.

I am glad you Sprint guys and gals are seeing such a bump!
I am in the same boat, I could OC my CPU but all I would "gain" is worse battery life and the bragging rights that my CPU is faster than yours. So like you I am good with stock or even lower.

I think Sprint may just be updating their towers more unless a dev can confirm that there's a new software update that's increasing data speeds? I'm on PA Beta6 and I've also noticed a lot better service everywhere.

"Android System" consuming a lot of battery ?

Hi guys,
I've rooted android N on N5x + Elementalx and I noticed something I don't know if it is normal or not.
I took some screenshots of my battery usage and it shows that " android system " consumes a little bit more battery than usual.
Please take a look at them and tell me if it is normal, if not, what should I do about it ?

Well what was normal to you? What is the usual percentage use by Android System? 15% and below seems fine to me.

Since I just installed Nougat a week ago, I don't really know what is the normal use, that's why I'm asking if there's something wrong I should know about.
Same problem. But root+greenify+elementalx with profiles "solved" problem

You should probably check onto some bloatware you are having on your device. If not, then fine and by the way greenify is safe to ise on android N. Make sure you are keeping it on root mode. Also i suggest you to flash a suitable kernel and use apps like kernel aduitor, set cpu. Do this and you wll see the drastic change in your performance and battery...
If you need further help for flashing kernels and apps for tweaking, count on me.
Cheers
Hit Thanks if it helped

Thanks.
I'm pretty sure this has been plaguing Nougat since the beginning? Even during the developer previews? I thought I saw an article on /r/android that developers have inquired about the excessive battery usage by android system/etc, but it's been a neglected topic. Who knows?
Any more thoughts ?

For those on Android N wanting to improve battery life, I took the time to try out a bunch of different settings and flashables and here is the best set up I found so far on NOUGAT in the past 2 weeks of using as daily. Flash latest ElementalX kernel, if you have the companion app also called "ElementalX kernel manager", go to cpu governor setting and enable glass fish 1.2 at boot for small and big clusters. make sure touch boost is turned off as it will prevent next step from changes sticking, Make sure cpu boost is off as well before proceeding.
-this might get a little confusing proceed carefully-
Now underclock cpu Max for small clusters to 787 MHz and Min to lowest possible. Also for the big clusters set max to 480 and min to lowest possible. Now if you have a recently updated Ex kernel manager you should have an option to individually set CPU on this SOC in the CPU main menu. Set it to CPU 0 only in small cluster ( cpu 0-4) and set CPU 5 & 6 in the big cluster ( cpu 5-6). Go to cpu governor for (big cluster) outside of cpu governor options menu in the main cpu menu in ex kernel manager, and set the big cluster to ElementalX gov.
-----------To double check if you did this right go to Dashboard on Ex kernel manager and check to see if only 3 cores are active; One of the cores at the top should be active, and two at the bottom should also be active. Now your CPU setup is finished.-------
download the app called "doze" it's the best working doze app in the play store for nougat in terms of battery life and consistency, I've tried Naptime force doze and amplify; Naptime used to be my favorite but doesn't work as well on NOUGAT IMO just like the "force doze" and "amplify", Just take my word for it.
Once doze is installed you will see a owl if you downloaded the right one, enable doze then click on the setting icon in the top right corner.
Once there you will find an option for aggressive dozing that will only allow doze will screen on and off, enable that option.
Then finally go to system settings for Android and scroll down to accessibility and enable automation for the doze app,
Now doze is properly configured for best battery life, now there's one other set I did which one download greenify and set it up the same way, making sure accessibility is set up on automation for greenify as well as apps set to be greenify'd. Now you should be ready to go, battery will last super long like 4-6 hrs SOT and on nougat that's saying something lololololol
up ?

all of those 'aggressive doze' apps are incompatible with nougat anyway. just saying.
Nah I thought that too the few days on nougat, but given the fact that it's been at least a solid month of use and seeing how it effects my battery compared to MM when I configure doze i know for a fact now that it works
and on top of that I had back and forth convos with Franco on Google play because I wrote a review on his naptime app, and he let me know I was totally misinformed by thinking doze apps don't work in nougat. His almost exact words were to make sure nothing is keeping your device awake and that he "can't do magic." so I'm guessing it's our responsibility to make sure doze is working properly before putting your device asleep Hope this helps

I'm only using greenify for the aggressive dozing and it works super fine.
The problem here is with the " Android system " and " Android OS " battery consumption ( specially the first one ) they both consume more than 25% ( 15% + 10% )
Any thought about this ?

Go to the playstore and look for disable system update service app, use maybe servicely from Franco also on the playstore and disable services and add apps to the hit list, and check back if there's a change. There's a thread somewhere that explains which services can be disabled without breaking apps like Gapps and ect
