[Q] believed soft brick and more - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

OK for start i rooted my gs2 and installed cm9 update-cm-9-20120416-SNAPSHOT-epic4gtouch-alpha3-signed. this loaded and was running just fine. but then I noticed when trying to install update-cm-9-20120512-NIGHTLY-galaxys2-signed i had lost my cwm recovery and decided to investigate and experiment.(got an answer on bold issue) (bad Idea) So then I re flashed cwm recovery and loaded cm9 5/12 it loaded but i had no data/WiFi so i booted back into cwm recovery and formatted everything (i think this is were i messed up). I can still get into down loader but now my computer and Odin wont recognize when I connect my phone. I can get into cwm recovery but it cant mount my SD card and says there is nothing in internal storage. I have uninstalled kies and all Samsung related drivers/software. rebooted computer, reinstalled kies and software and still nothing.Any help would be great and any more information needed I will do my best.
So now, that is about everything I can think of. So I guess my main question would be How do I get my phone and computer to talk to each other again and most of all get it back up and running.
Also just for the record im not a complete noob I was a ROM addict with my transform. and I have searched forum after forum and have had no luck finding the info i need. which is why i am creating a new post.

First question, which version of CWM were you using?
Second question, when you say that your computer didn't respond is it just not reading as an extra drive? If you have your sound on does the computer make the new hardware detected ding sound?

Looks like you flashed the intl version galaxy s2 cm9, this phone is usually listed as e4gt or epic touch in rom files not galaxy 2 so more than likely your USB is corrupted and no longer will be recognized by your PC which makes your phone FUBAR

thanks for the speedy response. I am using cwm 5.5.0.4 and No noise at all. The computer ain't regerstering that i plugged any device in via usb. I tryed different cords and nothing. I did try different usb devices to ensure it wasnt my usb and they worked just fine. it was working not a problem then what ever i did to my phone it stopped. My internal storage says there are no files. dont remember if i mentioned that before.

K. Unfortunately it is a hard brick. You will probably need to look at getting a JTAG service. Other than that it's pretty much gone.
Sorry!

Yup you flashed a rom for the intl gs2, next time read a little more carefully anything with gs2 or galaxy s2 is not for the epic touch. 2 completely different devices and anything for the galaxy s2 will Bork the epic touch. Jtag is your only hope, and I'm pretty sure it can fix your version of a brick since it can still boot. I wouldn't try doing anything else cuz if you get the blue light of death there is no hope aside from getting it replaced at that point. Mobile tech videos website will have more info on jtag for you, it'll cost around $50

thank you I will go drop it in a bucket of water and get insurance claim on it. thank you for the help

Just take it to Sprint and play dumb! Seems like a lot of folks are getting them replaced for free or 35 bucks tops.

I can try that to I actually tried zapping it with a 6.5mill volt tazer with a wire ran in through usb port but didnt work haha. Only issue I see is you can still boot to recovery and download and recovery is cwm recovery. I was trying to figure out how to just fry the motherboard and then play dumb.

Jtag is cheaper than ins deductible and if they can't fix it the refund your money so I'd give it a shot first

I would not drop it in a bucket of water!!! When you take it to sprint the first thing they do is check for water damage. They know because there are stickers on the inside of the phone that change colors when they come in contact with water. Trust me, I know.

[Q] Flashed SGS2 I9100 ROM - E: Can't mount /sdcard/ and Stuck in Boot Loop

So I accidentally flashed a Jelly Bean ROM leak for the SGS2 I9100 and now I'm stuck in a boot loop with the Samsung logo repeating itself. When I boot into CWM recovery (PhiZ Touch 3 Clockworkmod 6.0.1.5 is what this one flashed), my phone is unable to recognize my external SD card (E: Can't mount /sdcard/).
I've Wiped Data/Factory Reset
Erased Reformatted SD Card
Attempted to connect Odin - does not recognize phone
I've tried NUMEROUS times to connect Odin (Kies)
From what I've read, it sounds like my partition is pretty screwed up. I've been reading a lot of posts on possible solutions and nothing has worked. If I could get access to reading my SD Card and reflashing an old ROM, I'd think I'd be in the clear. If I could find a way to push a ROM through Odin, I think I'd also be in good shape. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ryan

Check out mobiletechvideos.com epic 4g touch jtag service. Its about $50 and the only way to recover fully from an intl flash on the et4g. U need to be more careful with what u flash because u can easily turn your phone into a doorstop and if u have no ins and are out of warranty will be stuck having to buy a new device. If you have warranty but no ins it'll cost $35 at sprint corporate store to get it replaced, and ins will run u a $100 deductible. Jtag can't fix the BLOD(blue light of death) brick but can fix a wrong version brick like u currently have. Your bootloader and USB support are currently fubar from flashing the wrong one with the intl versions rom package

Thanks for the reply. From what I gathered it looked like I was going to have go the Jtag route and I'm preparing to send the unit out. You brought up an interesting option of taking it to a Sprint Corporate store for replacement. I purchased the phone in March of 2012, so it should still be under factory warranty - unless you mean Sprint Warranty - but won't they know I caused the problem?
As far as flashing intl version ROM, I was content with the GB ROM I've been running for months and just jumped when I saw a JB release for what I thought was my version of phone. Won't do that again.
So Jtag is the only route to go; no hope of running a script to push over an reset the phone?

Yes, unfortunately the corporate store is only good if you're superbricked where u only get a solid blue light when u try to boot up. Mfg warranty and sprint warranty are 1yr from purchase date. In your current situation jtag is your best bet. For future reference double check what u want to flash and make sure it says sph-d710, epic 4g touch, e4gt, et4g or sprint galaxy s2 as device name, anything else is most likely for one of the numerous other variants and will leave u in the situation ur in now, which is no good. If you ever wipe in the wrong recovery and end up with the BLOD then sprint corporate store or Samsung are a good option for replacement under warranty, its cheaper than ins and usually thru sprint only takes a day or 2 if they don't have a refurb on hand.
Edit: and yes jtag is the only way to get back to 100% there are a few ways to patch it up but u still lose USB support because the wrong firmware version that was flashed to the emmc allows it to activate but its drivers are messed up, basically the phone thinks its the i9100 instead of the sph-d710 so it can't find all of it's hardware components due to the internal file structure and hw version differences between the 2 devices.

Before you send your phone off for jtag service, at least see if you can get to DL mode. If so, can you use one click exe stock EL29 and you might get lucky. I have been able to get to DL and use this if I get to the Samsung logo.
ALso, will cwm recognize the internal SD? are you able to put a nandroid or rom from you ext SD onto your internal oneusing your computer?
I'm sure you have tried this, but throwing it out just in case. Good luck.

[Q][ASAP]Is this a soft brick or a hard brick?

Ok, I have spent a really long time figuring out where to post this, but I still can't figure it out. Please forgive me if this is the improper place.
Please mind that I have looked at similar hard vs soft brick threads, and tried all of the advice given, but nothing has worked yet.
To start, I have a Samsung Galaxy S II from Sprint. The Epic 4G Touch, Model SPH-D710. I am on a MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 OSX. Recently, I followed the steps as listed by h tt p:// epic4gtouchroot .com /epic-4g-touch-root/ how-to-root-epic-4g-touch-on-mac-or-linux/
The Terminal went through the entire process and said it was successful. I thought 'Wow! That was easy!' However, upon rebooting my phone, it never booted past the splash screen which showed "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100" with a yellow triangle at the bottom. At this point I could access Download mode, Recovery mode, this splash screen, and the charging battery that is shown when it is charging and powered off.
I was so confused so I spent about 3 hours on xda looking for an answer. Next, I downloaded Odin and packaged it for Mac. Then I downloaded the Samsung drivers just in case, and the stock ROM for my particular phone. I went through and tried to use Odin. Much to my dismay, Odin would not recognize my phone at all.
So then, I downloaded a .zip file containing the Official Samsung ROM, and put it on my internal sdcard. Under ClockworkMod, I wiped cache, dalvik cache, and wiped all user data. Then, I applied the .zip file using the option in CWM, and it said that it was successful. However, upon rebooting, it went back to the same screen with the yellow triangle.
Next, I downloaded the CF root, and tried to apply it the same way through CWM. Again a fail. However, now upon rebooting to splash screen, it would progressively turn from a black/gray screen to a white screen. Once it got to the white screen, it stopped and stayed there for about an hour. Then it died.
I tried to boot to Download mode but it says that the battery is too low. So now I am trying to charge it. However, it tries to load the charging battery icon that is normally shown when charging a powered off phone, and flashes to black. From this black screen it again slowly turns gray then white. Once it reaches the white screen, it turns back to the charging icon, and starts the stupid cycle over again. Its been doing that for the past 30 minutes.
UPDATE: My battery is not charging AT ALL. Whether plugged in to computer or wall it continues the cycle.
UPDATE 2: I made a video so that you can see what the phone actually does. I still can't post links, so please remove the spaces. http :// youtu .be /4LW60EknFWw
Remove the battery first, then try charging it. After, get windows onto your Mac or borrow a friend's, and use the windows Odin to get back to stock.

You're in the wrong forum. This is currently posted in the i9100 forums. You want the Epic 4G Touch forum.
EDIT to add:
To clarify - the Epic 4G Touch is a CDMA phone, and the GT-I9100 is a GSM phone which doesn't even work on Sprint's network.
So according to this:

You apparently flashed something for the GT-I9100 onto your Epic 4G Touch SPH-D710. If you actually did follow the steps at http://epic4gtouchroot.com/epic-4g-touch-root/how-to-root-epic-4g-touch-on-mac-or-linux/ properly, this should not have happened. What exactly did you download and flash? Because if you followed steps for an Epic 4G Touch, then you would not have downloaded and flashed something that would alter your bootscreen to read GT-I9100.
You MIGHT have been at a recoverable spot at this point, until:

By my count, that's you flashing 3 things meant for an GT-I9100 to an SPH-D710.
You're probably out of luck at this point, but again, check in the Epic 4G Touch forum. Maybe someone there can help you, but I wouldn't hold my breath. You might have some luck trying to get a warranty exchange at a Sprint store, if they can't get your phone to boot and see exactly how bad you buggered it. But I wouldn't hold my breath on this, either.

Oh my goodness... I knew I really had screwed the pooch on this one D:
Thanks for letting me know that I really am in a world of trouble. I had thought that GT-I9100 was a type of SPH-D710.
Also I apologize for the incorrect post location. Again, I hadn't understood the difference.
Do you think if I could charge up the battery, and get it into download mode with a jig, I might be able to use OneClick UnBrick? Or some other method?

I have no idea. The two phones are different enough that any advice I give you would be invalid.
My suggestion about going to the Epic 4G Touch forum to ask for help there still stands. You're much more likely to find helpful advice and valid files for your particular device there. Do not use any more guides or download any more files from the I9100 forums.
That said, it looks like you may have tried either flashing a GT-I9100 bootloader or .pit file to your phone, which REALLY would have screwed the pooch, yes. If you can't get help in the Epic 4G Touch forums, I'd just take it to a Sprint store and tell them that a Kies update screwed your phone up.
TLDR
There is no such thing as a "Soft" or "Hard" brick, Your device is either bricked or it isnt, simple as that.
If you can get into download or recovery and use them your device is not bricked.
Will do

Again, there is no such thing as a "soft brick". There is just "bricked" and the term is used too loosely by n00bs.
If you can simply re-flash a rom your device is not bricked at all.
"Soft brick" is just a n00b term that is used because they think their device is bricked if they can't get it to boot.
Your device is only "bricked" if all you can do is JTAG or mobo replace.

Is there a one-stop resource for "Jtag or M/B replacement"? I'm having trouble searching forums for some reason, otherwise I would look for it myself.
You need to get it into download mode and then reflash a ROM appropriate for your device. Your phone isn't bricked - but if you fail to get it working again and have to resign to using it purely as a surface to sniff your cocaine off, then you have only yourself to blame.

Because I am curious. This is where it often times gets me, but I like to learn new things by doing. In my eyes it's usually worth the risk. I will admit this was a stupid mistake, but I have certainly learned a lot about rooting in the process
Wow. So, hopefully by now you are in the correct forum. And hopefully have downloaded the appropriate Odin tar file to restore your phone properly. Get that at the dev section of E4GT. Charge that battery in a different phone if you have to. Get into Odin mode and run Odin from a PC (Heimdall for macs?), if the PC does not recognize your phone, its probably the cable. If Odin starts but then fails half way through, its probably the cable. BTW, check out SFHubs Odin-one clicks for your phone, probably the easiest way to restore a clean, new rom.
And in the future, be more curious before you act. Read read read.
Good luck.
Thank you

Yes I got to the correct forum.I still don't know which file to download. Nobody has bothered to point me in the right direction. Considering what I did to it last time with what I thought was the correct file, any direction would be appreciated. :/ I'll definitely ask in the E4GT forums. I'm currently working on getting a charged up battery, but I won't be able to do so until next Friday. I've looked into OneClick UnBrick. When I get the charged battery, I will definitely use a more reliable cord. XP I will definitely research more next time. In fact I might not mess with it at all!

If you can get into Odin mode (on a PC preferably) , download one of these files. I recommend the latest official ICS build. Read the op carefully. That will return you back to stock. All your data is gone,, but hopefully you've always backed up your contacts to Google. The play store will have your app history.
Wait what..?

I see that the latest is FI27. The three files shown are OneClick.exe, a zip file, and an unrooted TAR file. From those I'm assuming that OneClick.exe is a windows application that goes in and puts your phone back to the ICS build with one click? This method would be the simplest, except for the fact I have a Mac. Would the time taken to repackage it be worth it or would one of the other two options be better? And the zip file. Would I be able to put that on my internal SD card and flash it through CWM? Or would I unzip it and flash through heimdall. As for the TAR file, I am unfamiliar with this, and am not sure how this file would be utilised.
The last time I tried to understand a concept on my own, I ended up with a bricked phone so please forgive me for asking so many questions, I just don't want to mess it up a second time.
As for the data, yes it is gone. DX Yes I backed up contacts *phew*. I had a feeling going into this that I should back up something.

The one clicks are full "images" flashed through Odin. I recommend this because a one click will reflash your stock rom, modem, and recovery partition. This is what you need to do to repair your phone. If you try to flash something in recovery, it will repair your rom but not necessarily your modem/radio/firmware, and this could be a problem. I'm not sure exactly what you flashed before, so I think its best if you fix it all with a One Click.
As far as using a Mac goes, I am not sure. I'll look into it, you should too. Odin used to be only for PCs, Heimdall for Macs. Maybe its changed now?

You must have some schmo friend that will let you borrow his or her PC laptop for 10 minutes. Install Odin , install the proper drivers. Go into Odin mode, connect phone, once recognized... click.
Look up QBKing77 on YouTube, search on YouTube "QBking77 Epic 4g Touch" and you will see instructional videos with appropriate download links.
Why have you lot continued to answer this thread ? It's in the wrong place. More to the point, why hasn't anyone asked mods to move it to Epic 4G Q&A ? (Which I've just done)

Possible Brick? Recovery and Download mode intact

Hi,
A friend of mine just gave me his Epic 4G touch to diagnose and fix.
He had gingerbread, I think. He first rooted it and then ended up upgrading to some ICS custom ROM through odin, did it wrong (used an AT&T GSII rom... haha). Anyway, now the phone is stuck in a boot loop. I can access recovery and download mode. Unfortunately, recovery mode refuses to mount the external SD card when I go to install a package, so I can't fix this easily. ADB through recovery doesn't seem to work either. In download mode, the phone is not detected by any of my 2 PCs using any version of kies, mini or not. In fact, there isn't even an "unknown device" that shows up. It's like I have zero communication with it.
I've reformatted the SD several times and tried different SDs. No luck.
I know my cable is good and I know the micro USB port is good, as it worked for him to install this and still charges the phone just fine.
Any ideas? Where should I go from here?
Thanks!
To the sprint store to get a new phone...
It seems that when people flash stuff from a different phone, it screws everything and makes it almost impossible to fix. You may try a Jtag repair... Find mobiletechvideos in Google.
And questions go in Q/A, not general.

Jtag will work in this case. The bootloader is just borked so jtag can force the proper one to write.

I like to break stuff!
Try this since you can still access recovery, [edit] oh this might not work since you need adb also working

[q] rogers samsung galalxy s3 i747 bricked/hardbricked after custom rom

Good afternoon all this is a bright Sunday in Halifax Nova Scotia. I would like to first apologize if this is a redundant thread so if anyone sees that my issue has been resolved elsewhere (and yes I have been at this for DAYS) please close this thread and point me to the right direction.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 from Rogers model i747M
Everything was working find until I happened to it lol :silly:
I installed ParanoidKANGdroid succesfully, after playing around with it I got a little cocky and tried to install other roms...
After reading up on the best roms for my device I stumbled upon Pardus HD (not realizing is was for the i9300 because I was all excited and didn't read.... just being honest)
So what I did was followed some guide (can't remember which one but if its imporant ill try and find it) to intall clockwork mod via odin. Successful
After this I booted up my phone and moved the Pardus rom to my internal sd as directed and loaded into clockwork recovery...
Now the directions mentioned to WIPE DATA AND CACHE so this probably wiped the working rom off my phone.
I then went to install off sd card, found the rom, and installed it, the install errored out and aborted. At this point I was still in recovery and rebooted :crying:.
Now my phone will not turn on, there is literally no life going to it. When I plug it into my pc I do hear a sound but its the sound of a device driver error the driver its looking for is QHSUSB_DLOAD.
What I've tried...
Download mode again (of course it won't work)
Finding that driver (no luck)
connecting some wires to the battery (poor man jtag; unsuccessful)
What I want to try but haven't yet as I don't want to mess it up further....
jtag (since I don't have it)
sd card trick to install bootloader (scared to mess it up) this seems the most promising but cant find the guide to me particular model
sd card trick using another working phone same model (don't want to mess up someone elses phone)
I would like to try every option other than sending it off before that ends up being my last resort.
Any help would be great appreciated. I thank you in advance.
Did you make the jig and try it yet? Cause that might be the last resort before sending it off...good luck bud!

So this may not seem as simple as it looks. my question is, is my phone hardbricked or softbricked? (just to be clear there is NO life, no led, no download mode, no charging, just QHSUSB_DLOAD when connecting to pc for which i dont have drivers) will this work in either situation?
Thank you so much for the help so far, i assure that i will most my journey and success with every step once i have this figured out. thanx again
I'm pretty sure it is that simple...jig worked great on my captivate and 1st Gen note both hardbricked....making and using the jig can't hurt you at all...try it and see.

my mistake was i chopped a blackberry data cable. found an original samsung one, chopped it, rigged it up, it works on a good s3 (friends) boots it right into download mode so the jig is working now. i will post on how i made it and what youtube video i followed later. however the jig isnt working on my s3. but i found a [email protected] pdf doc from samsung on how to use another s3 to flash bootloader. just need to find i747 boot recovery image and hopefully i can use his s3 to resurrect mine... any ideas on that method?
This issue has been solved!!! YAY
Okay ladies and gentlemen so my issue has been solved!
Here's how I fixed my issue!
I disassembled the phone I connected a Jig that I learned how to make through mobile tech videos, I then connected an external power supply by attaching two prongs to the positive and negative battery terminal at 3.7 mah, Then I shorted with a pair of tweezers the R 313 chip on the back of the motherboard of the phone. After a few tries download mode came up I disconnected the jig reconnected it and somehow the download counter reset.
Up and running on stock Rogers I 747M 4.1.1 Rom
If you buy your jig on Amazon for about $25 usually those ones actually come with a power supply port On the back of them so you don't have to actually hookup an external one. I'm not sure exactly what the purpose of the R313 chip is I found a leaked Samsung Tech service manual online to do this. That manual also asked for another S3 in working order to be part of the equation to force load a boot loader and then reflash to T flash However jumping the gun in this matter it actually worked if I'm lucky I'm happy if this is how it was supposed to work I hope I really helped someone. Thank you all for your help so far!
where on the board do you find th R313 chip. how did you know to rcognize it. Is the rogers mother board the same as the atnt i747

thanks for information you upload about your experience.
would you please let me know where is R313 is located on i747M main board,as I have the exactly same problem.
any help would be appreciated.
QHSUSB-DLOAD Stands for Qualcomm High Speed USB Download Mode.
This means your motherboard can't find working drivers to run, so it will try to boot from somewhere else.
(Which is the SDcard)
To put the sdcard with bootloader info is safe. Its like putting a CD into your computer, it won't make any changes unless its asked to change the harddrive.
Here is a T-Mobile thread that did it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439367
Here is the i747m image (only works if you didn't update to 4.3 from an OTA from phone company)

do you still know how to flash clockwork mod on the phone I have the I747 But the AT&T model from what I have heard the GS3's use the same process just different boot loaders
Also I did kind of the same thing with my phone but instead of flashing a rom I tryed to unlock a boot loader that was already unlocked and was for a different model lol :silly: .
I already know how to fix it I just need the Debrick img for the SDcard trick where you put the boot loader on the card it self
If you have seen the I747 At&t vision debrick img can you tell me?
I have the sdcard trick here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068 if you still need it it even has the debrick img for the I747M
Thanks

If you still alive can you refer to the r313.
thanks in advance.
They said it was from a leaked guide for the i9300, so there's a very good chance the Qualcomm devices fo not have it. They are very different devices and use entirely different SoC's, do it would make sense that the rest of the hardware would also be different.
Not saying its not worth looking into, just that its a good possibility since no one else seems able to find it.

Stuck in boot loop with no USB option

I just inherited a t-mobile phone that was rooted. I installed the latest version of TWRP and tried to re-root it but now it's in a boot loop and on top of that I can't connect the phone to a computer b/c I get the "USB Device Not Recognized" message. I've re-installed the drivers and I've tried the toothpick trick. Nothing is working. What are my options?

First, I believe this is the correct section - the phone I am working with is a T-Mobile Galaxy S II... Second, I can't Odin because I don't have a working usb connection. I've tried several different ROMS from this fine section and I get the same result... Boot Loop
If you flashed TWRP 2.6.3, that's your problem.
Flash 2.6.1
This is the wrong section because it has nothing to do with ROM development.
With that being said if you can still boot into twrp you still have hope. Try loading a different ROM into an SD card using a converter and slide back in the phone to properly wipe first then re flash.
I don't understand why you can't get a proper USB connection going but above suggestion may solve it.

Just to confirm a few things: where do you not have the working USB connection? in download mode? If so, I'd try reinstalling the drivers.
Also, I see in your sig that you state your phones are:
Asus Nexus 7
Sprint Galaxy Note 2
Neither of which is a SGH-T989. Are you sure you are flashing the correct ROM/Kernel for your device?
also you said it came rooted but you re-rooted it. What process did you use to re-root it?
One last thing: you say you got it second hand, are you sure it is a T-Mobile galaxy S 2? May want to check under the battery for a "T989" or "i9100". The i9100 is NOT a T-Mobile galaxy S 2. It should be SGH-T989 if they didn't give you incorect info about the phone.
You could also try a different USB cable or hub. I've had USB extension cables give me grief and the front ports on my PC don't like my phone.

I think there is something wrong with the micro USB input on the phone. I have reinstalled the drivers several times. I have tried different cables and different computers. I even tried the toothpick trick. No luck.
I do have a GN2. The SG2 is for my daughter...
It is a genuine SGH-T989 I checked under the battery.

Let it sit on the TeamWin screen for a minute or so... I find it sometimes takes a little bit.
If it doesn't ever get past there, try hooking it up to a PC and see if you can get ADB to load (presuming you have ADB installed and ADB drivers installed). If you can, try to do an "adb pull /proc/last_kmsg" and a "adb logcat > logcat.txt" and zip those up and toss them on here.
If you CAN'T get into adb, I would try hooking the phone up to Kies and see if it will do anything for you.
Or you could try following this guide as you have the T-Mobile SGH-T989 (not the Telus SGH-T989D):

BUT make sure to grab the correct stock image file for whatever version your android currently is (ie if you are on Android 2.3.6, then make sure to get the T-mobile KL1 2.3.6 stock image).
Also, what ROM did you flash? was it a 4.3 ROM? If so, did you update your radio before you flashed the ROM? I think 4.1+ needs the updated radio to function properly.
I know you said you can't connect through ODIN, but I'm hoping it is because of some odd driver or odd ODIN version. That thread has the stuff to make it all work I believe.
I'm really hoping you can get ADB to work. If you can pull a logcat of your bootup process, it will be much easier to figure out what went wrong.

You guys are great!!! I really appreciate all the help. No matter what I do, ADB, Kies, different cables, different computers, nothing gets past the "USB Device Not Recognized" pop up. I let it sit for 15 minutes, twice. Still no love... I loaded TWRP_2.6.1.0_Hercules and then reboot and that's when it got stuck. Prior to that I had loaded TMobileT989UVMC6RootedDeodexed Rom. I forget where I got it. I'm pretty sure it was a 4.1.2 based rom.

weird... I am not sure why it is being so fussy with your phone.
Hopefully somebody has a better suggestion than I do, but my next thought is to try ebay-ing the phone in hopes that somebody gives you a few bucks for it. It sounds to me like the internal memory module is dying and the USB port is shot.
Is your water damage sticker pink/red or missing? It should be under the battery.
I hate thinking that the phone is just dead, but without being able to connect it to the PC in either recovery or download mode and not being able to boot into a ROM or recovery, I think the next step is to scrap it and hope somebody can send you a few bucks... or if you have experience soldering, maybe try replacing the USB connector?
I could be wrong mind you... The only time I had issues like that it was due to a badly flashed recovery and I needed to use ODIN to get back up and running. As a thought, do you have a Windows XP 32-bit computer you could try plugging the phone into? And while the phone is plugged in, can you check device manager for all devices? maybe try installing the drivers manually? I suggest windows XP 32bit because that is what I use the majority of the time with my phone. I've also used Windows 7 64-bit and it worked.

Thanks again for your time and suggestions... I've always been very impressed with the xda community. I actually got this phone, used, from Swappa. And I am in the process of returning it for a refund. But the seller is being difficult and is trying to stick me with the phone. I was just trying to salvage it on my own, just in case... Thanks again.

that sucks. I've heard good things about Swappa, but living in Canada I can't use it. My opinion it sounds like you got a dud and based on how hard the guy is fighting to not give you a refund, I wouldn't be surprised if he knew it was doa and just fluked out and get it running before he sold it. Or maybe it got water damaged and he knew it would fail soon so he sold it before it completely quit.
I hope you get it all sorted out.
Good luck and sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
