[TUT][2.2+] BLN for stock MMS.apk on any ICS/GB and more! - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

So this is a simple tutorial on how to get BLN working even for apps, that does not support them (e.g. stock mms.apk etc.). There are plenty of 3rd party apps that this does support.
What do we need:
1. Smartphone with android os (works on 2.2+)
2. Root (obviously ).
3. Application BLN Control Free or Pro or other that works with BLN (tested on Pro).
4. Application Light Flow Lite or it's full version. (Full version does support many 3rd party apps). I did it with Lite version.
5. 5 minutes of your time.
Instruction:
1. Install BLN Control (Pro) app.
2. Turn on (check) BLN in app (Activate BLN option). If we have paid version we can also set schedule for only-day work and MissedCall already.
3. Install Ligh Flow (Lite).
4. Open it. There will be pop-up. Press "ok" or "yes" (don't remember which one now). At top you will see "Light Flow Lite Off", press it and turn it on. There is chance of leak in security but app does not have network connection (as it says) so it won't even do anything if got any informations. Go back to app.
5. Get in "General Settings section" and check as on screen:
Don't change anything else unless you know what are you doing.
6. Get in "Notifications" and after that check positions that interests you (for me its e-mail, sms, mms & gmail, since i already have "missed calls" from bln control pro. If you have free version you should turn it on too).
Settings for SMS (same for others).
Color and rate is of course not important to I9100 owners . I also recomendt not to set sound or vibrate for any notifications used in this app as stock apps for any activities has them already. Also be sure to turn off acitivities that you don't want ((missed call if you enabled them in bln pro), calendar, all with battery, bluetooth, both signal and g.talk).
After you finish only these icons should be on:
- koniec
7. If we have paid version we can go to "Additional Apps Supported" in main Menu and use it with 3rd party apps.
8. Close app, test it - should work flawlessy. Well if you get sms, turn on screen, won't read it and turn it off - it will light ON, becouse it's set to turn notification off only when you enter base app (e.g. stock mms.apk). It's becouse BLN sets of before screen turns on, and it would not light after screen turn off in other case.
I saw application on Market (blah, Play now - who da faq invented that name?!) and searched it on xda - there were some notes aboud that, but many people still didn't know there is any way for BLN on ICS or even some GB roms. It's still better alternative to modify services.jar/odex Hope now people will know about this way
As for battery - i think it will use less or same as BLN app. I just got it so I can't really say for sure now.
Tested on:
XWLP9 (ICS 4.0.3) with Apex Launcher Pro 1.1.0, stock mms.apk (4.0.3-XWLP9), BLN Control Pro v. 0.17.5 and Light Flow Lite 2.12.5.

[ADDON PACK][12/18/11] Bulletproof MIUI Pack v1.2 :: OC/Optimized/Extras!

Bulletproof MIUI Addon Pack
Due to a lack of time, I've discontinued weekly updates to Bulletproof MIUI. I didn't want to leave anyone behind, so I believe I've come up with the next-best-solution.
The Bulletproof addon pack is designed to be flashed directly over the weekly translated MIUI builds (e.g. MIUI.us/MIUIandroid.com, etc). The pack will enable all of the features listed below, and should make your phone run significantly better.
The addon pack allows you to update as soon as the translations are available, so you're not stuck waiting on me to update every week! This pack should (in theory) work on pretty much any G2/DZ ROM, but your milage may vary. Please always make a backup before flashing, just in case.
Features
- /system converted to ext4 file system.
- Virtuous OC Daemon (Installing SetCPU or CPU Tuner will automatically disable the daemon.)
- Tsubus' ILWT kernel
- EFS wiped on flash to prevent GPS issues.
- Wifi Calling conditionally installed for T-Mobile US users, uninstalled otherwise.
- Modified SD card read cache (set to 4096)
- Applications Zipaligned on boot (skipped if already ZA'd)
- App Widget Picker added for users who prefer to use alternative launchers.
- CyanogenMod/Galaxy Nexus ringtones/notification/alarm tones
- OC/UV Beater bundled to control/configure OC
- Themed keyboard that's much more MIUI-like
Installation Instructions:
- Install the MIUI ROM of your choice (MIUI.us/MIUIAndroid.com recommended)
- Flash the Addon pack
- Configure OC settings via the OC/UV Beater application
Whenever you update your MIUI each week (either via OTA or by manually downloading/flashing), simply flash the pack afterwards and you're all set!

MIUI Resources and Addons
1. Long press on the icon in Toggles to launch the settings for that icon.
When you pull down the notification bar, you will see the Toggle settings for plenty of options (such as WIFI, volume, backlight etc). Long press on any icon in the Toggle mode will launch the setting for that icon.
2. Built-in Screen Capture function
One of the lacking feature in Android is the lack of a built-in screen capture feature (like in iPhone). Not anymore. With MIUI, you can press the “Menu” key and “Volume Down” key at the same time to capture a screenshot. The printed image is saved in the “MIUI: directory in the sd card.
3. Press Home key to preview screens
Pressing the Home button once will bring you back to the Home screen. Pressing the Home button button will show you all the screen thumbnails. You can also ad/remove screens from here.
4. Slide from left to right to quickly delete a message or a call log.
In the SMS or Dialer app, swipe left or right any entry will bring up the Delete mode.
5. Move home screen icon easily
Hold down an icon by one hand to enter Edit Mode, and then use the other hand to slide the screen to move the icon to the target screen.
6. Launch Music Player in lockscreen
In the lockscreen, double tap the time zone to launch the Music Player. (The Music Player is hidden by default, unless a song is playing)
7. Quickly access the Dialer or SMS from the lockscreen
In the lockscreen, hold down the icon of Call or SMS, and you can enter the responding program.
8. Activate the torch from the lockscreen
In the lockscreen, hold down the Home button to enable the torch.
9. Access shortcut menu from contact image
In the Calls, SMS or Contacts app, tap the contact image and a shortcut menus will appear.
10. Search via voice recognition
Long press on the Search button will launch search via voice recognition.
11. Switch the Battery UI to show percentage
The default battery UI can be switched to display percentage of left battery capacity. To do so, go to “Settings -> System -> Battery Settings -> Battery Indicator Style -> Percentage“.
12. Long press on the Home button to show History
Like any other Android ROM, long press on the Home button will show the recently used apps. However, in MIUI, there is also an App Killer and App Manager button. Swiping the popup left will show the search form.
13. Setting up IP dialing
If you need to add an IP prefix for a particular number in a strange land, you can set it in Settings -> Common -> Calls Settings. Turn the “Auto IP dialing” ON and set the IP prefix and current area code.
14. Send SMS for rejected calls
When you are not available to answer the phone, you may slide up the panel to reject the call and to send a message to the caller at the same time.
15. Enable 720P to record a video
If your phone comes with a camera that support HD recording, you can enable 720P in the Video mode. Run the Camera app and switch to Video. Select “High” -> “720P” in the pop-up menu of video quality.
16. Quickly uninstall an app
To uninstall an app, simply press and hold the icon until the trash bin show up at the top of the screen. Move the icon to the trash bin to uninstall the app.
17. Quickly read SMS and mark it read
In the lockscreen, press down the SMS button (without dragging it down) to reveal the new incoming message on the lockscreen. Once you have finished reading it, double tap on the SMS button to mark it read.
18. Making the MIUI launcher smoother
On first boot on a fresh install, go into Launcher Settings, and toggle hi-res graphics on, then back off again (If you intend on using the stock MIUI Launcher, this seems to smooth it out significantly)
19. Brightness slider on notification pulldown
Disable auto brightness and you'll get a brightness slider in the notification toggle pulldown.
20. Built in FTP server
MIUI has a built-in FTP file server. To use it, open the File Manager application, and tap on the "FTP" tab.
BONUS: MIUI is pronounced "ME YOU EYE", but say it however you want

virtuous OC! time to ditch osimod's. Ill miss extended settings though

I installed it and it performs well so far. I flashed the tiamat 1.1 kernel to because i like the smartass governor a lot, but now it seems as if the virtuous overclock controller just doesn't work with it (fc's all the time).. Does this mean that the daemon doesn't work either?
Whats better abouth the virtous controller compared to setcpu?
Cheers keep up the good work tho!!
thanks for your hard work, will try it later!

The overclock daemon wasn't intended to work with the smartass governor. The daemon uses screen off profiles which makes the smart ass governor useless. Switch back to the on demand governor or the per shoot kernel and things will probably work better

first thing i notice is that scrolling through the homescreens is smooth as butter! wow.
im going to try this one for some time, see if it becomes my new favourite!
Just wondering is the kernel important to work with the daemon or does the governor just need to be set to on demand and it works with any miui compatible kernel?
so could i use tiamat or streamline5 with this kernel then? (sorry i know jsut the concept behind daemon but not the specifics like this)
The force closes of the controller are due to the frequencies in the scripts that are default not being supported by the kernel. If you want to use a different kernel change the frequency in the script then everything will work as expected.

If have to criticize don't be so rude about it.

Nonsense

Ok so now after reading this:

things are starting to make sense, and it seems legit to go with the pershoot kernel and skip the smartass governor alltogether.
Let's try with the pershoot kernel then
cheers

[APP] S-Pen Help and Buddy Page for Samsung Based ROMs

Like many people here I do not like the stock TouchWiz Launcher which we get, but when we change to another launcher like Nova etc. we lose the Page-buddy feature and hence have to launch the S-Note app every time we remove our SPen. So I thought of making an app which would launch the S-Note app when we remove our SPen.
Features:
-Launches the S-Note app (default) or the one chosen by you. (can be disabled)
-Shows a Notification (the message it displays can be whatever you like) in the bar for as long as the SPen is detached. (can be disabled)
-Launched app is closed when SPen is inserted.
-During a call the auto launch is disabled so that it does not conflict with S-Memo auto-launch.
-Can be used by Tasker do detect the SPen detachment/insertion.
-Can be updated directly from the Phone.
-QuickBar with desired applications in Notification Bar.
-The entire app can also be disabled.
-Shows a Notification (the message it displays can be whatever you like) in the bar whenever the Headset is plugged in. (can be disabled)
-QuickBar can also be setup for the Headset.
-Can select custom insert/detach sounds.
Future Plans:
-Be able to choose which app we want to launch. (Done)
-Show a notification in the notification bar for as long as the Pen is Detached like the TW launcher. (Done)
-Make app launch on its own without the need to start it. (Done)
-Add auto-update feature. (Done)
-Integrate as a Tasker Plugin. (Done)
-Upload to Play Store (Done)
-Enable quickbar in Notifications like TW launcher. (Done)
-Implement Headset Controls. (Done)
-Launch different apps when SPen is detached based on currently running app.
-Implement blacklist for auto-launch.
-Add option to disable closing the opened app.

Thank you very much
I was looking for something like this for when I'm using AOKP roms.
I'm a big fan of the AOKP stuff yet i don't like to lose the features that come stock

What features would you like to see in Lineage that CM didn't have?

Use this thread to suggest features that weren't in CyanogenMOD that you'd like to see in Lineage.
Parenthesized text in italic are my comments regarding the suggestion.
Suggested Features
Built-in system cleaner
Device: request the PIN once a day
Extra support for smart cards
Disable root icon for specific apps
Display network speed in status bar (see EDIT below)
Incremental updates (OP note: this could be handy)
Better app lock (CM had Protected Apps but you can bypass them by clicking on a notification, and you can only lock them with a pattern)
A bunch of features to include in the default launcher
Built in Package Disabler (I think you can just disable the app in the Settings?)
Battery bar
Use substratum theme engine (or at least have better support for it)
Free RAM overview in Recents
Allow any app to run in background
Better support for microG
Stock launcher experience, with more customization options
More lock screen options, like time and weather widgets on lock screen
WebDAV (CardDAV, CalDAV) sync options
Become a fully featured ROM with full F-Droid support
Built-in support for OpenVPN
Autolock phone after call end
Adreno idler
Live Display for all phones (I don't think that's possible because of the sensors each phone has)
Reverse portrait mode
Ship ROM with no apps installed; let the user choose his apps (bit skeptical about this one, maybe we could customize what packages we'd want in our ROM before downloading it?)
WiFi band selection (was removed in Nougat)
Caffeine quick tile (http://lineageos.org/Last-Week-in-LineageOS-5/)
Change DPI settings per app (have different DPIs for different apps)
Better permission handling
Custom date format in status bar
Advanced call blocker and recorder (the latter would be neat to have)
Record voice calls with Voice Recorder app
Backup and restore LineageOS settings (maybe the user could choose where he wants to save the backup file?)
GNURoot Debian support
Gello: update to Chromium v50+ (see EDIT below)
Gello: allow users to choose their download location
Music: add Folder View option
Trebuchet: notification count badge that works like TeslaUnread
Ability to manage certificates
MAC address spoofing
Dialer: option to choose SIM while calling, and to set what SIM to use for each contact
Support for Cisco AnyConnect SSL VPN protocol
Add behaviors for double press, triple press on Home, Back and Overview buttons
Airplane Mode scheduler
Support for dnscrypt
Better built in File browser with local network browsing
One tap toggle for settings tiles
SystemUI tiles
Clear all recents
Add "wave to unlock phone" gesture
Allow users to change SELinux from permissive to enforcing and enforcing to permissive
Night mode tile for Quick Settings
Display Location icon on status bar
Choose which Quick Settings tiles and Power Menu buttons are available when screen is locked
Update unrar and p7zip
Scrolling screenshot and auto enable the navbar when rotating 180°
Display day and month in status bar if date position is set to center
Dialer: option to extend blocking to SMS, block hidden numbers and numbers with prefix names
Trebuchet: option to use Home button to open app drawer
CMUpdater: option to flash additional zips
Add "flip to turn off alarm" gesture
CustomTiles: add Night Mode tile
Option to set different ringtones for different SIMs in dual-SIM phones
CustomTiles: add LTE tile
Add SlimRecents
Solid color wallpapers
Toggle ticker or heads-up notifications
Spam filter for SMS app
Support for EAP SIM protocol to use Mobile Carriers networks
EDIT:

EDIT2: I'm not, in any way, affiliated with LineageOS (nor am I an official developer). I'm a community member just like you are
Android in general needs a system cleaner. Like CCleaner and others. Something like that would be good.
Change logs should be listed in the system update tool.
The system update tool should show at least a week of older updates as well as the current available updates. For example if I am running cm14.1 12-12-16 and I check for updates it will not show 12-6-16, only newer updates. Some updates contain bugs that may be missed for days. I usually delete old updates because it uses up space on my device with limited space. I updated to the latest cm14.1 two days ago and my data service was broken. The website no longer listed cm updates for me to find and I could not downgrade, I'm running aicp because I couldn't downgrade BC I usually delete updates that are older.

TWRP recovery
Scheduled full backup of LineageOS modified OS settings (Live Display, Battery meter, time settings, WiFi passwords, status bar quick access configs etc) and apps with their data to Google Drive, so the user can wipe the phone or pick up a new one and restore everything from Google Drive.
Okay, I guess I find I'm slowly turning into more and more of a scientist and so I come up with really whacky theories and really whacky ideas of things to try. I'm knowledgeable about security practices, so some things I'd like to see... (I've been on Android 5, so it is possible at least one of these was already added to 7)
Add the ability to make LineageOS demand the device password (or PIN) once per day. Fingerprint readers are handy for quick lock/unlock, but your fingerprints are readily available. If one was to end up in state custody you likely don't want them to access your private data. As such, I'd like the ability for devices to lock once per day and require the password (or PIN) to unlock.
Include some extra support for smart-cards. One neat thing about smart-cards is they're rather more difficult to tamper with than normal data on a phone. If one's phone ended up in the hands of authorities and they really wanted to unlock it, they'd be able to get at the hashes in flash-memory. If the key for encrypting the userdata area was instead stored on a smart-card, they have a great deal more difficulty getting at it.
It would also be interesting to support OpenPGP cards and using a olde phone as an extra layer of security protecting one's PGP keys.
Okay, hopefully not too whacky for you.
The ability to roll back updates, (I know you can always take backups, but those take forever.)
- The old jellybean tablet ui for tablets.
- Assuming it's going back to it's roots as an os for enthusiasts, rather than a mainstream os, I'd like to see trickstermod type settings built in again.
- If means income to support development, I wouldn't be opposed to them following through on the miui business model they flirted with of having a cutting edge theme engine and a proprietary paid theme store.
Some way to disable the root notification icon per app.
Network speed display on the status bar
Double tap to wake!!!! I don't want to use my hardware buttons more than I have to. Cut down on physical wear.
Incremental updates
App Lock

Yeah just like many did with Windows 10. ??
Desired LineageOS features that were not in CM?
1) Samsung's Smart Stay feature
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00047864/
2) Ambient Display/Moto Active Display feature
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TyhaOjME5g
3) The ability to increase the size of all icons and text e.g. like in Nova Launcher
4) Lock screen weather animation(e.g. Like in the LG G3)
5) Double tap to wake and sleep, and Knock code
6) "Doze - For Better Battery Life" functionality with a whitelist feature
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yirgalab.dzzz&hl=en
7) A Package Disabler app feature that can disable any application
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en
8) A reliable custom ROM installer that supports a large variety of Android devices
9) Stickers and themes for the native SMS application
10) When you downloaded a new CM ROM upgrade(e.g. a nightly), you had to reboot into TWRP and manually select the ROM file to install it.
LineageOS ROM upgrades should function like regular OTA upgrades do i.e. you download it, choose install, it reboots your phone and
it automatically applies the upgrade(i.e. no hunting down the appropriate zip file)
P.S. The appropriate version of GApps should automatically be installed too if GApps was present before the upgrade!
11) A parallax effect option for any wallpaper(e.g. in the Samsung Galaxy S6)
12) Counters/badges for unread emails, missed voicemails, calls & SMS/MMS messages
13) A native HTML email client(as opposed to plain text). I should be able to click on urls in emails. Phone numbers in emails should
launch the phone dialer
14) A calendar icon that shows the current date on the home screen calendar icon
15) A voicemail-to-text feature
16) A chatheads option for the SMS app
17) A shortcut to install gApps
A superuser more in line with SuperSu, so no apps bork because no "SuperSu" even though device is rooted.
Perhaps phh's SuperUser/ OpenSource SELinux-capable SuperUser?

How to stop apps from running in the background?

Guys,
How do I stop apps from running in the background?
Check my attached screenshot of battery stats, where snaptube and beam was running in the background, although I never opened them for the day.
Is there an option in settings to do it like Samsung does, or Do I have to depend on an App ?
Thanks in Advance!

That's some pretty bad battery drain for apps that you haven't even used. You could try greenify.

Guys,
How do I stop apps from running in the background?
Check my attached screenshot of battery stats, where snaptube and beam was running in the background, although I never opened them for the day.
Is there an option in settings to do it like Samsung does, or Do I have to depend on an App ?
Thanks in Advance!

Best options I'd say:
- Disable Background Activity (app info - battery) - though this may mess with any notifications you may want to receive
- Disable Background data (app info - Data Usage - Background Data) - again, perhaps no notifications
- Battery optimisation - ensure android is optimising battery usage
- Disable notifications from within the app, which should reduce battery usage though of course at the expense of not receiving notifications (could just manually check?)
Another option is to use App ops (comes with NitrogenOS custom rom) or install it from the Playstore. This will allow you to further tweak app permissions, specifically "auto-start", "keep awake" and "run in background".
Lastly for some apps it may be a better option to eithern find an alternative, where available, or not to bother with the app and just use the web interface instead. For example, I don't bother with Facebook and used Folio for a while. Now I just settle for the web interface (with messenger lite installed for messages) and have a shortcut to the site on my home screen (which you can even change the icon to a Facebook one).
Though also I see you using Snaptube (video downloader?) and so downloading will be a battery drainer too, so if this is the case use WiFi where possible.
Many options, decide which fits best for you
Great reply right here. Was just about to say the first few options as they're built-in. Good thing I scrolled down. LOL

THANK YOU! for taking time to compose this fantastic response.
Initially I was lost because I coudn't find the option to kill background activity in the app settings. However since you've mentioned it here, I checked again.
Apparently that option is not shown for some apps. But a few, Like Snaptube does have that option. For the one's that doesn't have it - I used Greenify.
Battery Optimization, Yes Enabled.
Notifications were also a good tip, Killed all except the messenger and Email apps.

Question Gripes with XIaomi's software limitations, anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I bought a Xiaomi 13 Pro recently for battery life and camera and I'm certainly happy with it! However, coming from an AOSP-ish experience I can't help but feeling very frustrated with the UI/UX of MIUI so far, setting up my new phone, especially:
1. Not being able to use full-frame gestures on third party launchers
2. The app manager cleaning my widget apps when I clean apps forcing them to close and not refresh widgets before I reload the app + reload the widget
3. Having to set up manually lockscreen notifications for every sub category of notifications within each and every app - by default, apps will not show lockscreen notifications and when the general toggle within the notification menu is switched on, I have to go into each notification subcategory to re-confirm my setting of actually having this notification show on the lockscreen in a secondary toggle - is there any way ALL can be selected to show on lockscreen = ON by default?
4. Lockscreen notifications disappearing when I unlock the screen once
5. Some apps just not working at all, like Tiktok (I'll write a different post on it)
6. Unnecessary bloatware I don't need
If you have any workarounds for any of these issues or know how to get something as close as AOSP as possible that would be very much appreciated, as much as I love the hardware of this phone, the software is difficult to manage and I don't want to end up selling the phone!
Thank you so much
1/This is a Xiaomi decision.
2/Try to put the apps concerned in automatic start and no restriction on the battery saver.

If you use AOD, check that notification is activated on the theme.
5/Long press on the app icon/information/notifications/grant the necessary permissions (all except, refuse or resend empty messages).

***For this, notifications are indeed activated IN GENERAL for lockscreen, but subcategories are deactivated by default, essentially I have to do twice the activation for lockscreen notifications
5/Long press on the app icon/information/notifications/grant the necessary permissions (all except, refuse or resend empty messages).
***For this it's actually the app that can't connect to the internet, not the notifications. Nothing seems to be unlocking like if an invisible firewall was blocking the app.

Possible,Try: settings/connection share/DNS
You won't have this problem with a Xiaomi Eu rom.
