[INFO] Native ICS Equalizer in Play Music! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So... I am sorry if this has been discussed, but I just found an equalizer in the native music player. Everyone keeps recommending volume+ to boost the sound or a third party equalizer to get better sound, but if you go into Play Music and turn a song on, you get the screen with the album art and whatnot. I noticed the three dots at the top of the screen, so I tapped it. A menu appeared with the following options: Sound Effects, Show Options, Make instant Mix, and Settings. So I tapped on Sound effects. And there it was! I tried doing a search on equalizers, but the only results that came up were posts that had "equal" in the posting. I am not rooted, and I am completely stock. Just a heads up if anyone is irritated with the sound. Also, bass boost and 3D effect only work if you have headphones or speakers plugged in.
I didn't know if it would be better to put this thread here or in apps and themes. So I chose here.
Now if I could only find a way that makes the sound effect for incoming notification NOT completely stop or pause the music for the duration of the notification, I would be so happy!!

Sick find, didn't know about this thanks.

Yeah I just discovered this too a few days ago. It works FANTASTIC. but too bad it only effects Google music and not the entire phone audio.

Dsp manager is better. And when installed takes the place of music fx.

Not there
Anyone have any idea why this would disappear or how to force it to be there? I have a One XL running the viper rom and beats audio isn't working (yes, I've plugged in headphones) which I don't really care about, I just want this equalizer. I'm assuming the presence of beats (which is useless since it's not working) is preventing the equalizer but I don't know enough about this to be sure.

The stock bass bost is pretty awesome, and the equalizer too. It's more than enough from a free tool

Question regarding equalizer...

Hello,
For those lucky ones with a galaxy nexus....i wanted to know, when in stock music player, I hear that changes in the equalizer can make huge differences in the volume of the speaker. It can make the speaker much louder as well....but i wanted to know, if I set it to user or custom, and turn up the equalizer to louder, will it apply to all audio?
Example, by default, equalizer is off, if i adjust it to on, and raise the bars, will my youtube app play videos on my "new equalizer settings" or was that just adjusted for stock music?
Can anyone do the test to see?
Many thanks in advance !
I think thee reviews stating speaker is low is by default settings, but can relaly improve through equalizer form what i hear.
Bump

Maybe I am missing something but my Music app doesn't have an equaliser option.
in stock music app.
the equalizer does make a difference. i have not test it with a headphones yet, but even with its onboard speaker, you are able to tell the difference.
i only see it on the stock music app at the moment. not available on youtube app.
this is a feature only exist on ICS, so for others running the new music app on any other roms, you will not get this feature. not even on honeycomb. (i have tested this).
Yes the music is louder in the rmusip app, but nothing else plays any louder I tested this because I think the ring volume is way to low

My volume fix that WORKS

Hi All,
After messing around with apps trying to boost system/ringer/notification sounds, thanks to fellow member CuppaCoffee8, i have found my solution and thought i'd share it out. I have tried Volume+ with not so satisfactory results. CuppaCoffee8 suggested to try one of the many free Equilizer apps on the market, which i did and it does really work. Just turn up all the volume as shown in my pic. It's not specific to the music player and really does increase all system volume to the point where it's even too loud and i had to turn back the system settings volume. So those who are still seeking a solution, please try it out. !
which app is that?
what is the app? and you said it made your notification volume loud, so much that you had to turn it down?
What's the question?
Any free equalizer app will do. In my screenshot, i am using 'Equalizer" by SA Labs. Yes, at max, volume is too loud, i had to decrease it.

Nice find! This worked exactly as you said unlike Volume+

Just as a heads up. This is exactly how Volume+ works. It exploits the Equalizer API to boost the volume

This definitely works for me, Vol+ didn't seem too. Sounds a little distorted, trying to figure out how to get the right settings, but the sounds is def livable with now. Thanks.

I just dont want to damage my phone.
This looks like it should get more exposure. In the Q&A section it will not get it.

i am not sure but +8 on volume+ do the trick for me. have you tried the advance setting on volume+? it exactly the same as your EQ app.
Good tip
Is a good tip, using equalizer (from market)
results are very similar to Volume+, even if using volume+ with increase of 10 or more produces even louder (but often distorted) audio.
volume+ works just perfect. After playing with the settings you need to go to settings>sound>music effects> and pick volume+. That will solve the "I can't hear a difference when i am playing music/movie on the speaker" problem.
Any Equalizer over Volume+ works. Volume+ kept crashing for me too. Thanks for the tip.

Equalizer by smart android apps in the market is what I use. It practically doubled my volume to the point I can't turn it to max. Thus app was the best because it fully integrated into system and music player in gingerbread, and still does in ice.
Question for those who use volume+....if you want to eventually go back to stock settings, do you just uninstall the app?
or just go into setting and put back to music fx or disable volume plus
Does volume+ increase notification sound as well, or just music/video?
have anyone tried the build in EQ advanced setting on volume+??

Whatsapp with Beats Audio

If you checked Conversation Sounds and plug in your headset while using Whatsapp, Beats Audio will be activated each time there is new msg in your conversation (while you in the conversation window)...
It doesn't hurt but it is not necessary
Yes. The beats audio symbol pops up in notifications bit only with headphones plugged in.notification sound is still the same.
Annoying but so was losing 4 out of 6 beats profiles.

I'm still hoping they will be reintroduced in a further update. I'm going with the newer code wad causing the skipping in music so they reverted back to the older one until they can fix it.
A guy can dream right? Tbf urbeats profile sounds nearly ad good as pros profile on my beats pros. Still would prefer to have pro back!!

LOL! Beats Pro and Beats Studio profiles was really great when i plugged my phone into my car's sound system. Poweramp just destroys everything and makes it sound like every bit of soundwave is distorted to the maximum (according to my opinion)
And one more thing: It's a bit hard to play Spotify through Poweramp Since i use Spotify or Grooveshark for all my music

I personally like using Volume +. Has worked great for me on every ROM but CM10. didn't seem to make a difference on it :silly:
I have noticed on alot of threads that alot of people like PowerAmp. I myself have never tried it. The is also Awesome beats. Its like Beats audio. Search for it. I would post a link but Im kinda short of time to find it myself. Good luck sir.
PowerAmp is just a music player with a nice built in equalizer, but because it is an EQ, and does not affect tye actual oower output of the hardware, it will eventually cause distortion. I use PA, but I keep the EQ in check and do not use it to make it louder.
Volume+ has always been a terrible thing for me, causing audio skipping and distortion.
Beats is an EQ, and I think it sounds like garbage.
What we need is something like Voodoo sound, like we had on the Epic4G. It is a kernel modification that works at the hardware level to increase power output.

Have you tried speaker boost into he play store? I use it and it makes the sound louder!

[Q] HOX music and enhancements

Hi guys! I'm kind of a music freak. Yeah I admit...I want to have a good listening experience. There are some problems though. I would like one or more of you experts to guide me. We have "Awesome Beats" and "Noozxoide". We have some mods made originally for Sony, and so on. Today I use HTC One X endeavoru.
I wonder: what would be the easiest way to test them, and combinations of them? I've noticed that some of them aren't compatible together and sometimes it sounds just terrible. Other times the phone gets nuts and nothing works. For example: yesterday I couldn't change volume in any of my music players; if I did, it shut right down. What custom rom I use doesn't matter me very much as long as I get an overall good experience. So, my questions, and hopefully, the beginning of a usefull thread starts like this, and, thank you in advance, you are great!:fingers-crossed::
1. Optimal music player for the audiophile, and optimal for the noob who don't want to config too much.
2. Mods, combos, APK or flashable? Roms that allready have and give ultimate sound experience.
3. How to temperally disable players, mods or whatever, so that one don't interfere with the ones you want to use.
My HOX is running the latest 4.2.2 ICJ build with XMkernel. Haven't flashed any sound mods.
1)Best player for me is definitely PowerAmp. Nice clean and organised interface. However if you like tweaking then have a look at Neutron Player.
2) Not really, I just downloaded Noozxoide and run my equalising through that
3) Not really necessary except I had to disable the built in app "MusicFX" for the Noozxoide app to work.
Hope this helps!

Yes, I have the same configuration myself right now, but original kernel. Is XMkernel to prefer? Well the sound is really good and I found out that I should go to settings - apps and clear and stop players that I don't use for the moment. Can you get to configure Nooxxoide thru Poweramp or do you have to do it the long way? I have some trouble too make Noozxoide do job, I mean some features work whole for example the manual settings of the EQ

For sound quality, not really necessary. Well to get Poweramp to work with Noozoxide you have to go into Poweramp Settings - Audio - Advanced Tweaks - and uncheck "Direct Volume Control". Then disable Poweramp's EQ, tone and limit.
Beats Audio on CM
Lately I've become a fan of the beats audio that came on my HOX but i've also taken a liking to CM10 is there anyway to put beats audio and the sense music player onto CM 10?

Well, I tried that and get the EQ I want, but I can't, like in ordinary player, customize it. I havet to leave poweramp and go to the EQ. And when, like my ”awesome beats” the EQ is flashed in the system you can't reach it from ”outside". Oh yeah. I have AC!D music mod to. Also built in ICJ.

I've tried both Awesome Beats and Noozxoide on AOSP ROMs and quite frankly I didn't like any of them. I'm a huge audiophile myself (and a music producer) so all that did the job for me was tuning DSP equalizer myself.
Another recent thing I've tried and I quite liked the results (although, the sound is not as amped as having Beats enabled, but it got both ups and downs.. downs obviously being somewhat lower loudness, the ups being way cleaner and natural sound, and no distortions by the overamplification of having Beats enabled) is that I've simply flashed Walkman app from "SONY Xperia Z Walkman Clear Audio+, Movies Album & BE 2" which comes with mods, but I didn't flash any of the mods, just Walkman alone, and remove apk's that caused me force closes and errors.
Once Walkman app is flashed, DSP starts misbehaving, but kind of in a good way - the changes applied in Equalizer aren't as aggressive anymore and allows for much finer tuning, achieving the great sound described above, while still being able to bleed your ears with loudness.

Well, that sounds interesting! Guess I'll find the links by googeling. What rom are you on, and what player do you use? What quality do you havet on the music. I use to have flac or in worst case, 320-mp3. Often when you talk to audiophiles they try to convince you that a clean sound s Wright. For me the right thing is when the listener really enjoys the music. Personally I prefer a deep, pretty strong bass without loosing too much of the middle and high frequences. A good sound is what you think is a good sound. Thank you! Be shure I will try this out and come back with respons.
